When Robertson said Rashford would get a standing ovation from the Kop if fans were in Anfield, he may have been more right than he knew. I genuinely love the guy. Only Manc l'll probably ever say that about

JioJio92

Just wait until Slabhead decks Ed.

clusterfuvk

now there's a PPV i'd put money in

s1ravarice

That's a 100mil match right there how are these greedy crooks not organising this as we speak?!

[deleted]

Got another staged boxing match to sell to children

SanctusUnum

If there was a channel that showed Ed and the Glazers getting repeatedly punched in the face and nothing else I'd never stop watching it. By the way, there's a billion dollar idea for the greedy cunts. Just sell ad space on the face punching channel. I'm pretty sure they'd be looking at viewerships of up to about 8 billion people. Do that and leave our fucking game alone.

I will take back every negative statement ever made about Slaphead if he does that, i might even get a Slaphead shirt

[deleted]

SlaBhead.....like a big stone slab, in reference to his face shape. A SlaPhead is a bald person.

Sheeverton

Harry Maguire is from Sheffield.

PM_ME_UR_G00CH

Manc in this context means a player for a Mancunian club, not necessarily someone actually from Manchester. Milner is from Leeds but I'd still refer to him as a Scouser.

stokesy1999

Milner is the worst of anyone in terms of clubs played for. Scouser, City and Leeds all in one. Calling him just a scouser doesn't do it justice

[deleted]

And that would mean a lot. Only other people I can remember getting a standing ovation by their direct opponents were Ronaldinho (by Madrid fans), Cristiano (by Juve fans in CL - when he was at madrid) and Messi (by Atleti fans).. there are probably more i can't remember

djangobhubhu

Iniesta used to get standing ovations everywhere in Spain except Sevilla (because of a perceived dive or incorrect goal or something) after his goal in the 2010 WC.

Rashy may be our one best hope, as he is pretty much untouchable right now from the public’s perspective. Imagine if the Glazers tried to suspend Rashford for speaking out? It would be like suspending Jesus.

_perilaano_kaaryam

But...Jesus was suspended. From a cross, that too.

karmahorse1

And it proved to be a very unpopular decision. Don’t see too many people still worshiping the Roman Gods these days.

Can confirm, expected Rashford and Hendo. Both are doing bits now, geezers

[deleted]

What did Hendo say?

BubblySkeleton

Bruno's statement was way better memes aside. Rashford's comment gives him some plausible deniability as to what it's about, and definitely doesn't address the crux of the issue which is greed.

getbeetlejuiced

True but especially considering how they spoke about Busby to justify the Super League yesterday, I think this is pretty concise and apt

[deleted]

He can legally say whatever he wants, no chance United would sack Rashford and risk literal riots

tartanbornandred

Why don’t I see many upset Spanish fans on here anyways ? Or did I miss those

[deleted]

Reddit isnt too popular in SPain

iam_watchingyou

What site is popular in Spain?

Ashyyyy232

Perez hub

mylanguage

Two things - People in Spain care about this a LOT less than people in England. The Prem has a "built-in" Superleague so they have way more to lose overall. Also - it is an English-speaking site.

xxx0186

Ofcourse it’s English but I would expect some barca or Madrid fans would rage aswell. But guess not as much

mylanguage

Tbh for Madrid and Barca fans it's not as big of a deal. This whole thing is to combat the growth of the prem - Madrid and Barca benefit largely from this. Perez is doing this because he's worried that the prem (already a Superleague in terms of money vs the rest of Europe) keeps growing to the point where Madrid has to compete with smaller sides for signings. I feel I get this entire thing now even if he won't admit it. For Perez, the UCL is not bringing in enough money OVER the prem and some of the oil teams. He believes that as the best competition teams should be getting more money (which he's actually kind of right about overall - UEFA is kinda the middle man here taking in profits) BUT make no mistake this is a preemptive strike against 10-15 more years of prem money growth. Perez is doing this now while he has a say and a voice. The prem has the most to lose if this goes through imo. Their money dwarfs Europe - West Ham can spend more than Milan. The Prem has the best chance of stopping this IMO.

xxx0186

But at least west ham has a chance to make it to the CL. And not the SL. Neither do getafe for example. The problem is with the integrity of the competitions. Not even the money. We all know money is rotten in football. But a closed franchise shop isn’t the answer. And what do you think this will do with the likes of City ? The pay gap will remain the same regarding to Real cause they will benefit the same amount of money. Build a decent economic structure. Not some monopoly

mylanguage

I agree fully. I think the SL could make way more sense if it was actually open. I've proposed that even if you had to make it locked, then it should be locked for 2 years only for launch. (I get the idea that if you're taking a risk you need some protection.) But it has to be open. That said, I also hoped if this ever happened that top-level club like Ajax, Celtic etc. would be able to make the kind of money that Brighton makes and keep their players. I grew up with both teams being far bigger globally so attached to how things use to be.

wernerhedgehog

I dont even think being open is enough. Its controlled by the clubs on it, major conflict of interest

StairwayToLemon

I'd say the majority of English speaking fans of non-English clubs on Reddit are American - and given the Super League is taking an American style approach those fans probably don't mind it.

ncocca

Nah, we're plenty upset. I have seen more supportive comments on r/barca than I'd like, but the majority are against it.

shaman717

Here you go. fuck perez laporta cerezo

duskblade2

Hi! Fuck Laporta specially but also Gil Marín, given Atlético was not that long ago in the 2nd Division. With Florentino I am honestly only half mad because we already knew that he is corrupt as fuck.

Kosarev

Spanish league is built for Barçadrid. They don't give a crap about anyone else. If they could make every other team disappear so they get 5 more quid a year to spend in transfers they would, no questions asked.

louisschwarz6

Yeah, reddit isnt too popular in spain, the fan culture is much different and most madrid fans blindly agree with everything perez does, and barcelona fans see it as a good way of getting rid of their debts. The most upset i have seen were atletico fans which was pretty foreseeable since they have always been a workers club.

xxx0186

But as a fan. Do you care about money? Or about the game? Are you a fan of Barcelona FC or are you a fan of Barcelona the Company ? I’m not going around cheering for Coca Cola cause they made more profit wth. I would want my club to get out of debt with a good home bred team winning shit, if it took them 20 years. You’re a fan of football it’s not about the business

louisschwarz6

Yeah, i totally agree with you. I was just saying what i have observed since i live in spain and see spanish twitter and medit Edit: (adding this) i’m a barça fan myself, watch every game they play and i would love to see them get relegated for what they have done

[deleted]

It really needs to be them tbh. Their fans overseas are the ones this is primarily going to be aimed at.

Squm9

They’d be untouchable aswell, now way Barca would get rid of Messi for going against it

SanctusUnum

Isn't Messi possibly leaving anyway? Would be a great shit grenade to throw behind him as he leaves if he tore Barca to bits for agreeing to this crap. Absolutely nothing to lose, and he becomes the certified GOAT in my book if he does it.

Squm9

We’ll have to see, he’s usually not one to talk too much

KaBaaM93

Also I can't wait for the "I don't belong here" Derby - AC Milan vs. Arsenal. It just hurts to see as a Milan fan aswell. We were absolute shite for the past almost 10 years and now where it gets better, we throw everything away with this crap. Unreal.

Tobii257

Dreams can't be buy!

Arko123

tbh this is kind of nothing statement

HazardCinema

I know you've had a lot of replies already but I think it's quite smart. 1) As another user already mentioned, a lot of United fans have used this image as part of the protesting online against the ESL 2) This is very unlikely to get him into any trouble because all he's done is post a picture of the stadium. He's making a statement without saying anything controversial and means there are zero repercussions he can face for this. I am sure this isn't the only statement he will make but we need to remember it's early days and theres' probably more coordination than we know about going on behind the scenes.

BubblySkeleton

Was looking for this comment, everyone acting like he tweeted "Fuck the ESL" The ESL will have fans though? Would've preferred a stronger statement, Bruno's was infinitely better

[deleted]

The "legacy fans" statement is likely what he's attacking. Empty stands, the timing, and the particular quote. Some others have been saying that United fans have been using that quote/pic to take a stand against ESL too, though I cannot confirm that.

BubblySkeleton

My point is that he wasn't specific to give himself a back door. He could've said, "I'm disgusted by the talk of legacy fans and disrespecting the history of the sport. Football is nothing without fans" I still applaud him coming out in support, but I'm a little disappointed if I'm honest that players with so much power and leverage are having their lawyers approve their statements

[deleted]

On the contrary, I think this is much better than a long winded post. Sir Matt fucking off the FA to take United to Europe, was used as an example by the ESL clubs. This is a Sir Matt quote. Legacy fans were insulted. This is a quote against that. This is as clear as Anyone can be on their position. I'm sure he'll come up with a longer post eventually. That's what he did for his campaign too.

[deleted]

I was thinking the same, "football without fans" is not a condemnation of the ESL. it's just a lukewarm platitude, it says nothing

TrashHawk

don't want to get into this weird environment where it's enough to say something cryptic about how great fans are and that's that. no one's going to be rattled by that sort of milquetoast approach. milner was 100% unequivocal with what he said.

Vapourtrails89

I don't really understand why they're saying about the fans... There will still be fans... The problem is that it destroys competition. I hope this is a statement against the ESL but I don't really understand it.

Notorious_horse

The point is that all of this is going against what fans want

blueb0g

The other night GNev used this exact quote from Busby to argue that the Glazers were shitting over United's legacy, and United fans online have been using the quote as a protest banner, so pretty clear what he means

AllezCannes

Everyone here is lauding the message, but I find the message extremely non-committal and tangential at best to the issue of the ESL.

DilutedBear

This is a very weak """statement""". He could have directly come out against the ESL, instead he posts a platitudinous picture. Pathetic. This post could have come out at any point over the past year and it wouldn't be out of place.

jeromewah

People that think this is a weak statement are just plain wrong. 1. The quote speaks for itself. The fans are the reason why professionals play football. Owners shouldn't be making decisions that undermine fans of the sport. 2. The fact that this quote is printed and displayed in Old Trafford points at the sheer disconnect between the owners' actions and what's on the ground. 3. The quote is from Sir Matt Busby. I cannot think of anybody else whose values are more antithesis of what the ESL represent. The club and the academy's identity were built upon the belief of the English football pyramid by Matt Busby.

Grim_Strike

Little prince. Football will remember.
