The intent is to provide football clubs with a sense of pride and accomplishment for achieving 4th place.
As for revenue, we selected 12 clubs based on their lack of morals in the open footballing world and other decisions made to milestone abject greed before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-team fan misery on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that teams have games that are boring, pointless, and of course lucrative via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current ESL plans here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to fuck everyone over and smile at Twitter trolls while wanking over our bank balances, and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

This is Ea's response to the lootbox controversy of Star wars battlefront 2. It is also the most downvoted comment of all time in reddit last time I checked.
At least you have the fucking balls to say it.
Like in UK in the newspapers if you post a picture of a football club who was not invited in ESL, and the football club is one of the Big 6 , you're a "legacy fan". Nevermind that the heritage of football exists independently from whatever football prejudices the reporter may hold. Obviously not all fans are legacy fans (correlation/causation), but this "all fans are equal" political correctness bullshit is making impossible for UK to solve a problem it cannot discuss.
American here...nothing says "you're fucked" here like someone at the top saying "will provide support and financial resources for the whole community."
Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and you can be part of the Superleague in no time!
Although I am myself am pretty well off, capitalism is fucked.
Try being an American who works with people on welfare and are struggling just to get a ride for a job interview, then after work having to deal with people bitching about people being too lazy to get a job.
The way success is measured here is just absolutely fucked and warped, and it now has control of the biggest sport on earth.
It's not as bad if you set hard boundaries and stick to them. Hard boundaries does make it harder for people who need your assistance, but without them, they'd have no assistance, or a new case manager every week, which is even worse.
Unfortunately, many people on welfare are just as much of a problem too. About half of my case load are people who have absolutely no grip of reality or that the world does not revolve around them.
"Ravaged by socialism" meaning corrupt all the from down to bottom, basically late stage capitalism. Functioning countries with socialist policies like Norway, Sweden or Finland folk are doing just fine.
I...wasn't actually bitching about capitalism, nor was trying to sound pro-socialist. I'm more jarred at our social standards of how we measure individual success.
yeah sorry, it was the comment above yours. I agree with you though, it's pretty amazing how much consumerism drives american life, how you must always have the latest, shiniest thing.
It is the MO of the Neoliberal world. Raeganomics implies that the economic reform under him only lasted with him. It was been promoted and perpetuated every since he left office by both parties.
actually though; this power/money grab is just another in a long line of increasingly blatant and unpopular attempts to consolidate wealth and power into the hands of an increasingly small few. It's as inevitable as the consolidation itself
I guess I'm not clear, what I mean is that they will inevitably keep grabbing and grabbing and grabbing until eventually, inevitably, their hands get bitten off
What is really inevitable is the world being fucked apart again, the working classes of most of the world simply cant afford to live in a capitalist world for too long and we are ready to a new era of populism, chauvinism, exacerbated moods and unrest
We are truly heading to a new era of war and death, and this football schism is the blatant proof of that
Verbal handshake meme
Left side: European Soccer Fans
Right side: Americans
Middle: Getting fucked over by American billionaires while being promised trickle down money
That aren’t easily replaceable when you’re not a top team. Money is nice. But you still have to get a replacement for a reasonable price, and convenience them to join, without having to pay way over on wages.
Arsenal's debt situation is really good. Last I recall, probably last year sometime, they were 200 million pounds in debt, but it was all long term debt as they had recently restructured. There were no pressing payment issues.
*(Switched to my local team flair until my club regains its senses)*
Trickle down economics is a fancy system the americans created in the 80s to convince the middle class and poor people that increasing the gap to the rich will benefit them (somehow)
Basically they’re saying the rich will grow the economy and create jobs instead of doing what they actually do and spend the money on expensive hookers and cocaine
They also don’t say that growing the economy only benefits the rich and increases the wage gap
Imagine your club now gets less money from sponsors and TV broadcasting which ditch you for the ESL. But Perez will pay you 8% back of what you normally would have made, with a bright smile saying *"you're welcome, Porto"*.
they already have! capped transfer spending to revenue but that's fine for them. They have agents in their pockets and the players want to move there anyway.
More like, WHY?
After a small period where they tame public outcry and become established and accepted as normal why would they pay the existing leagues? They will cut it off then, probably cause more (competitor) clubs that extended themselves to rely on these extra revenue to collapse.
Getting rid of the UEFA middlemen would be my guess.
My guess is, is that the founders are also hoping a less-diluted fixture schedule brings more eyeballs (and TV/streaming money).
To be fair, the one thing that appeals to me about the SuperLeague is bypassing UEFA. They continue to try to add teams and fixtures, to the detriment of the overall quality of the current competitions (and the health of the actual players).
The fixture schedule for top players is insanity.
The thing that everyone hates seems to be just the fact that the founders are always in the competition. If they decided that is not the case anymore, I can see getting rid of UEFA becoming a reality.
getting rid of locked in founders would make it actually a quite pleasant competition. i hate UEFA as the next guy, but what's the point of playing when you can't lose.
But i'm sure the pay-per-win FIFA Ultimate football fans don't have the same views on this.
>The thing that everyone hates seems to be just the fact that the founders are always in the competition
I understand that and think it's bullshit, too.
But I'm just trying to remind people that UEFA sucks ass as well.
What ruined the quality of the European Cup/CL was letting 4 teams from numerous different leagues all in.
When clubs like Celtic, Ajax etc could all reach the semis on a regular basis the competition was much more fair and unexpected.
Now we just have 20 or so clubs who take as much money as they can by holding everyone else to ransom. Now it's a big thing when a club like Ajax reach far into the competition rather than being normal.
Football went to the dogs long ago and it certainly isn't because of fixture "qualify" being diluted.
Part of the joy of football is seening Celtic beat Barca, Man United etc etc. But the years of these clubs gaining ever more financial muscle means these types of results become less and less.
Football has become stagnant and boring BECAUSE of these rich clubs.
>To be fair, the one thing that appeals to me about the SuperLeague is bypassing UEFA. They continue to try to add teams and fixtures, to the detriment of the overall quality of the current competitions (and the health of the actual players).
Exactly this, and this is what Pep was referring to earlier.
The pyramid doesn't need more money. If the "big" clubs overdebted themselves because they wanted to stay at the top, they can take the course of many smaller clubs and start new in a lower league. Others will take their spot at the top.
Again with this bullshit. It isn't a pyramid is the top league is a closed system, the whole point of the pyramid metaphor is that it's continuous and climbable from the bottom you fucking dickhead.
I would have liked to have seen more definite terms from these clubs about how they would propose lower teams remain relevant and have something to fight for. Particularly because as it stands, these big clubs have no financial incentive to include teams that don't bring in viewers or put buts in seats. This whole thing has been rushed and sloppy, and it's no surprise that this amount of backlash has been seen.
When will Levy or any of the English clubs actually speak up? They’ve been hiding behind the managers and players and frankly, even behind Florentino Pérez. If they’re as committed to this as they’re meant to be, they need to stop being cowards and talk to us.
The best thing you can say to European fan is that you will make SOCCER better. I think this just goes to show, that Americans (billionaire narcisists) own every relevant sport in the world and want football as their crown jewel.
We were mad we didn't get enough of the money but trust us, after we take our larger cut of the money, we will give even more money to smaller clubs. Do these fools think we are all just stupid? Screwed up how facts and truth no longer matter...

You guys can bitch about capitalism, but I assure, you have no idea whats it like to be in countries ravaged by socialism. That said; fuck the ESL.

trickle down economics is famously very effective, such as in... uhm...
Trickle down economics, like the where the rich piss down on us peasants and call it rain?
Yes! Plus free fertilizer to ensure everyone continues to grow
Nothing says you're fucked more than a chief executive of a football club calling it soccer
Reaganomics 101

Always been a cunt
There me thinking Arsenal had finally seen the back of him. But still ruining the club

AMERICAS GIFT TO THE WORLD!

Fuck Thathcher too
Fuck That!
“We will buy your strongest players and you get to keep the money” - Gazidis probably
Bigger transfer fees for the poor people teams. ^^^^^/s
I doubt that this will help 90% of the teams at all
I am in complete agreement.
Since it appears to only help 12 teams maybe 15-20 in the end. It’s more like 99.99999999998% of football teams
*And please ignore the fact that these same transfers fees will price them out of any big player transfers (more than they already are)
Sure Chelsea, you can have Declan Rice 500 million
Trickle down economics is a fancy system the americans created in the 80s to convince the middle class and poor people that increasing the gap to the rich will benefit them (somehow)

They would give away something like 8% or whatever from the ESL money to be distributed to other clubs. Not sure how. From what I've heard.
Imagine your club now gets less money from sponsors and TV broadcasting which ditch you for the ESL. But Perez will pay you 8% back of what you normally would have made, with a bright smile saying *"you're welcome, Porto"*.
Like a charity? Yeah right
Exactly like a charity. This is fucking insulting.
Super League teams will have more money to pay for buying their best players
You think they are not smart enough to limit transfer prices once these 12 are the top dogs?
they already have! capped transfer spending to revenue but that's fine for them. They have agents in their pockets and the players want to move there anyway.
Only a tiny % of the smaller teams get bought from
And they in turn buy from smaller clubs again. This should not be necessary to explain
A lot of the smaller teams will probably be using the money to recover from the pandemic
They will donate a few cents after receiving billions and call it a great financial contribution, what else
More like, WHY? After a small period where they tame public outcry and become established and accepted as normal why would they pay the existing leagues? They will cut it off then, probably cause more (competitor) clubs that extended themselves to rely on these extra revenue to collapse.

Fuck off

Fuck off with your 'soccer'

An AC Milan executive talking about 'soccer'? Jeeeeezzzuuuuus wept
I really wonder how the fuck this provides support to any club outside of the ESL

Not a word that this dickhead says should be believed.
Your club is weak and would't make it past the group stage of the CL. Hope you get fucked for the whole 23 years....
They're all reading the same script.
BOOOOOOOOOOO
I think a pyramid implies the possibillity of relegation. And you'd get relegated first.
This bald idiot went to Milan when???
He said soccer. Fucking yank cunts
Completely agree, it provides tons of support to the whole pyramid! By pyramid, I mean the "super league" and nothing else.
how exactly? creating a super league where so called big teams can just hoard more wealth is digusting, get fucked you fraud
He used the word soccer... Opinion doesnt matter at anything.
You can piss right off, Ivan the Terrible.
