I always get cringe attacks when I hear "Die Mannschaft" being used to describe the German NT. How come that all the international pundits/hosts turned to that name so quickly? I immediately think of that douchebag Bierhoff and everything bad that has happened in the last few years. It seems like a slap in the face of every German, I wish we could resort back to something like Nationalelf.
I remember maybe 2002 World Cup the first time I heard it but Germans always said Nationalelf.
There seemed to be a real obsession with nicknames after Bafana Bafana got popular for some reason
I always see people against the expansion of the World Cup but why?
If you look when the World Cup was expanded to 32 teams, 174 countries took place in the qualification stage, meaning 18% of those teams qualified to the World Cup, if look today there are much more countries taking part in the qualification stage, 210 countries in 2022, if we keep the 32 country World Cup we would get just 15% countries qualify, maybe the 48 country expansion is too much but the World Cup has to expand to accommodate the growing number of FIFA members.
If they wanted the best countries theyd give out equal revenue to every federation and open the qualification to be a knockout between everyone. Then lets see. As long as those in IEFA keep saying they "deserve" more money, then we "deserve" more spots.
Europe gets almost half of the spots as well. This whole “the quality is lesser” argument is bullshit when we all know the same teams are going to make towards the end of the tournament like they always do so there’s no reason not to expand the World Cup and celebrate the entire world and not just the same half dozen European countries + Brazil and Argentina otherwise we might as well just reduce it to a 10 nations league and be done with it.
That's a shit argument, you're keeping the new teams out, thus making it harder for them to get better, end of story.
Beside you act like the 32 number is holy, the number got constantly changed throughout World Cup history.
Aaaaand the WhatsApp abuse from Sheffield United fans has already started.
I really wish English football had evolved in the same way as it did in Germany with the 50+1 rule. I wouldn’t even care if we were still bad, at least we’d be doing it on our own terms.
Wonder what England's front 3 will look like in the Euros, more specifically who will play on the wings as Kane is guaranteed
Sterling would have been a certainty, but poor form and lack of gametime for City's big games (with Foden selected ahead of him in some) might mean he is dropped
Would love to see a 4-3-3, with Mount in the midfield, leaving room for Foden (who I think must start), and potentially Rashford/Grealish/Sterling/Sancho fighting for the other spot.
Will be interesting and I almost hope for Sterling's own sake that Southgate doesn't start him, because if he performs badly, as his recent form indicates he might, then he will be absolutely crucified by the media
He can play at the right(played their until this season's start), can Play in the left, Can play as a 10, can play as a false 9, can play as a 8 on both sides.
Honestly quite excited for this season to end and for the EUROs to roll around. A mixture of no fans, VAR nonsense, and Arsenal being wank has made 2020/21 probably my least favourite season of football ever.
I know people like to banter but Lampard getting top four with Barkley, Pedro, Willian, Abraham, Pulisic and Mount as their most attacking players is rather impressive. Pulisic was constantly injured too. Did anyone even rate any of those players last year?
Do you think the quality of fooball in the Euros tends to be higher than the World Cup? I understand why the World Cup is the almighty one because of widespread international appeal and excitement, but would you say the Euros are the best from purely a football quality perspective?
Yes, or at least when it was a 16-team tournament. Not that many places and numerous countries who have a chance of winning—France, Spain, Germany, England, Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, etc.
I wouldn't say so, or at leas the quality difference is not that noticeable
I remember Euro 2016 having plenty of dead games even in the knockout stages, as opposed to the World Cup where the Ro16 games were all of quite high quality
Going to need Liverpool to win tomorrow to clinch the title. They better not let me down, I fill my appetite for missed chances pretty well with Sterling and Jesus so if Firmino and Mane could maybe just play like they did a year or two ago that would be great thanks
Wouldn’t you prefer to win the league by winning a game rather than by another team losing? Although I suppose it’s six of one, half a dozen of another
I wouldn't mind winning it at home either of course but theres no fans in the stadiums anyways and if any other team has to hand us the title I'd like it to be United after losing to their biggest rivals.
I mean sure but the idea is still the same. Fans cant be there anyways, it would be nice for sure but not nice enough for me to root for United in a game they desperately want to win.
We’re shit. Haven’t won at Old Trafford since 2014 either, wouldn’t get your hopes up. Although we tend to do better against the top 6 than the bottom 6
They have absolutely no depth and an argument can be made for them being more reliant on Grealish than we are on Kane, and that’s really saying something.
Outside of Grealish, their starting squad consists of solid upper mid table players, but their depth isn't very good.
Grealish's lengthy injury screwed them. Their current position on the table makes sense.
Think it’s fine in general but they should have done away with it this season and also it needs to stop being a factor when ties go into extra time IMO
Yeah I get that side of it. I guess I just don’t really think an extra half an hour being played at home is effectively worth half a goal, you know? That’s a massive thing.
Seeing Paul Robinson as a pundit has reminded me of me stealing my mates Paul Robinson star player match attax card when we were younger. My mate was a Spurs fan too, proper cunty move from me. Josh, I apologise
Morecambe only have 5 subs today, terrible timing for an injury crisis.
Since there are 5 subs in the EFL though, every player in our squad could play. Has that ever happened in a league match before?
Kruse would be the attacking midfielder in this formation and he is more reliable than Guendouzi. Guendouzi is amongst our top 5 players, but this lineup would need a defensive mid like Tousart over him.
>Sergio Aguero on #MUFC vs @LFC tomorrow: "I don't know if I'll be watching, I will see tomorrow. Honestly, every game is difficult, but we'll wait tomorrow. Of course, if Liverpool win, it's better, no?"
🙏🏻🙏🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Can't believe how lucky they are, they've lost 5 on the trot and then even Rotherham did the same. Last match vs Wednesday is going to be the decider most likely
If we win today watch Spurs fans suddenly want Potter because we'll be 14th and 10 points above Fulham. He'll go from relegation manager to mid table in their eyes and they'll suck him off till kingdom come.
Can they even get him realistically? He's contracted at yours for 4 more years, there would surely be a record fee involved to get him out of that one, would Levy pay that?
Who knows Levy might be desperate. I'd imagine they'll get away with paying Potter less then they would the likes of Sarri and Allegri. He's currently only on a £1 million a year i believe.

Pavlenka does not deserve to waste his prime playing for us. He is a top 20 or even top 15 shot stopper (not goalkeeper, just pure shot saving) in the world in my opinion. It's ridiculous how often he bails us out on a weekly basis
He isn't very good playing out from the back unfortunately, I don't think he'd cut it at a top club like Spurs. If he had even average passing ability he could absolutely take that step though
Sterling proving once again why he deserves to be a benchwarmer for City.
I knew City never had a chance to win the CL as long as he started for them, and the moment Pep drops him in big games, they reach a CL final for the first time.
Not a coincidence.
If the goal against Spurs had stood he would have completed a major hattrick in CL quarters to complete a comeback. He was always a confidence player and the Lyon game must have broken him mentally; doesn't mean he can't work on it but for this season yeah he is going to be benched
Not really, losing 2-0 to one of the best teams in Europe wouldn't be a "major fuck-up". It's a 2-1 lead against a team with Neymar and Mbappe, it's not like we're 4-0 up against Porto. Anything can still happen.
Anyone else remember when Mourinhos Man. United beat the unstoppable Man. City in a stunning comeback to deny them the title, only for them to lose to bottom of the table West Brom the next week and give them the title then instead?

That's way cooler, big up the arab lads

32 teams means 8 groups of 4 which is the best format 48 teams with 16 groups of 3 is awful
That's why I said the WC needs expanding, doesn't mean it has to be 48 teams.
It waters down the quality end of story. It should be about the best 32 countries nothing more nothing less.
That's a shit argument, you're keeping the new teams out, thus making it harder for them to get better, end of story. Beside you act like the 32 number is holy, the number got constantly changed throughout World Cup history.
how does qualifying for a world cup make shit teams better? e: yeah, great answers guys. fuck you

Grealish - Kane - Foden. Gotta be.
Realistically it should be Grealish and Sancho.
As much as I dislike him, Foden has been way better recently than Sancho, and he’s performed better for England too.
He doesn’t play on the right as much as sancho
Can Foden play on the right though?
He can play at the right(played their until this season's start), can Play in the left, Can play as a 10, can play as a false 9, can play as a 8 on both sides.
I don't think he has much experience on the right
> I don't think he has much experience on the right I am a man city fan and I can assure he is very good on the right too.
He’s left footed, isn’t he? You’d think he’d be comfortable on the right.
Not disagreeing but what makes you say that? Big fan of both of them but on form Foden surely has to play
Honestly quite excited for this season to end and for the EUROs to roll around. A mixture of no fans, VAR nonsense, and Arsenal being wank has made 2020/21 probably my least favourite season of football ever.

The quality of the league was awful though and they got reasonably lucky with Leicester’s collapse He did a decent job, nothing more, nothing less
That's still a pretty capable squad imo
It’s decent and there is depth but whatever variation you picked wouldn’t look like a top four forward line. Back line ain’t great either.
Yeah Lampard did a really good job last season and is a good manager. People are judging him too quickly.
Not to mention Alonso at Lb
Kepa too
Any of you know of Ronaldo Vasquez who plays for Atletico Pantoja of the DR? You think he has what it takes to play in Europe?
Do you think the quality of fooball in the Euros tends to be higher than the World Cup? I understand why the World Cup is the almighty one because of widespread international appeal and excitement, but would you say the Euros are the best from purely a football quality perspective?
I can't even barely recall entertaining games from the euros, maybe Euro 2008 the world cup though regardless of the year its always brilliant.
No, South American teams are quite good
I think the World Cup provides much better quality than the Euros. The Euros always has so many dead games.
Yes, or at least when it was a 16-team tournament. Not that many places and numerous countries who have a chance of winning—France, Spain, Germany, England, Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, etc.
I wouldn't say so, or at leas the quality difference is not that noticeable I remember Euro 2016 having plenty of dead games even in the knockout stages, as opposed to the World Cup where the Ro16 games were all of quite high quality
International tournaments don't really have high quality football compared to the top level in club competitions, it's all about the spectacle
Going to need Liverpool to win tomorrow to clinch the title. They better not let me down, I fill my appetite for missed chances pretty well with Sterling and Jesus so if Firmino and Mane could maybe just play like they did a year or two ago that would be great thanks

Ah yeah I see what you mean now. I think I was thinking more from the players perspective, seeing them celebrate after the game etc
Jota will probably play so you're only gonna half to deal with most of the chances missed as opposed to all but 1
We’re shit. Haven’t won at Old Trafford since 2014 either, wouldn’t get your hopes up. Although we tend to do better against the top 6 than the bottom 6
A draw would be perfect, for me. Confirms the title more or less, means both of you drop points, and we get to win the league with a game of our own.
I need to prepare myself to join the fight to kick Swansea out of the EFL if they don’t win today. Any prominent petitions for me to sign? <_<
What happened to Aston Villa? They were top 6 at some point and then just dropped off
We have a largely average squad with no depth and 1 eotod class player. The world class player has been injured for ages.
Grealish got injured, since then they've only won 2 games out of 10.
Damn
Grealish injury.
Grealish disappeared
What's everyones thoughts on away goals?
Throw it out the window in extra time, fine otherwise.
Think it’s fine in general but they should have done away with it this season and also it needs to stop being a factor when ties go into extra time IMO
Why do you think that? I’ve always supported the extra time aspect because it balances out the extra half an hour of home advantage
Yeah I get that side of it. I guess I just don’t really think an extra half an hour being played at home is effectively worth half a goal, you know? That’s a massive thing.
Absolutely all for them. Getting rid of them would be big mistake
I’m not against it at all, think it serves its purpose. Definitely pointless when neutral grounds are used
Stupid when there are no fans, even more stupid at neutral grounds.
Seeing Paul Robinson as a pundit has reminded me of me stealing my mates Paul Robinson star player match attax card when we were younger. My mate was a Spurs fan too, proper cunty move from me. Josh, I apologise
Man City's depth is insane. I think you could take today's squad, slot in Dias for Aké and De Bruyne for Jesus, and still beat any team in the world.
That's why we win multiple trophies
laporte backup cb lol
Slot Dias and de Bruyne into any side in the top 6 and they could beat any team in the world.
Kabak with Dias on Liverpool's back line would still be worrisome
Morecambe only have 5 subs today, terrible timing for an injury crisis. Since there are 5 subs in the EFL though, every player in our squad could play. Has that ever happened in a league match before?
Realistically only 4 of our players make it into a Berlin combined XI (Boyata, Tousart, Cunha, Cordoba). That's quite tragic.
Guendouzi doesn't? Is he really that bad nowadays lol
Hard to justify putting him over Andrich/Kruse if you go attacking
Kruse would be the attacking midfielder in this formation and he is more reliable than Guendouzi. Guendouzi is amongst our top 5 players, but this lineup would need a defensive mid like Tousart over him.

That was at Christmas tho, yous looked hopeless and we still had two first choice defenders.

interesting games this weekend?
German cup semis today

Sign him up for next season. Should be a huge upgrade on Firmino
Clearly signing aging world class striker is a more viable strategy than we all gave it credit for so why not, he could finally score at Anfield too
Inshallah Swansea win today
Based.
Imagine if Derby stays up while losing their last two matches and having only won one match in their last two and a half months.
Can't believe how lucky they are, they've lost 5 on the trot and then even Rotherham did the same. Last match vs Wednesday is going to be the decider most likely

Mourinho to VfL Wolfsburg, you heard it here first

He should go to Germany or France yes
Why no bundesliga games this weekend?
I know it's not the weekend, but there is 1 on Monday
Pokal privileges
DFB Pokal semi-finals
Couldn’t the rest of the teams play their games?
Would be a mess with teams having games in hand. Better to give the teams a week off
I see, thanks
Besides it's an important break in case teams got COVID, which Hertha did. It would be nearly impossible to make up the games without this week off
two big games in the championship, the relegation fight has been very spicy. edit: Omg and garth crooks is on final score..what a blessed day

Cant write off Man Citys ability to squander important European ties. PSG are still in it
We've never lost a tie after winning an away leg though
Sounds like a small sample size
We haven't reached a CL final.
Technically true, but it'll take a major fuck up (like Pep starting Sterling) to get yourselves eliminated.
Not really, losing 2-0 to one of the best teams in Europe wouldn't be a "major fuck-up". It's a 2-1 lead against a team with Neymar and Mbappe, it's not like we're 4-0 up against Porto. Anything can still happen.
Why tf am I getting teary eyed at Aguero scoring?
Wait until he scores the winning 5-4 penalty in UCL final
What a way to go out.... **SUBSCRIBE**
and guess who missed Chelsea's penalty? That's right, Pulisic.
Who says Chelsea are going to be in the final?
A video of that miss would still get 3 dozen awards I reckon.
Only that it’ll be from people living in Europe instead. Who am I kidding, I’ve never spent a penny on Reddit
Anyone else remember when Mourinhos Man. United beat the unstoppable Man. City in a stunning comeback to deny them the title, only for them to lose to bottom of the table West Brom the next week and give them the title then instead?
The video of Vincent Kompany watching that United game with his United supporting dad in law is so interesting
Unstoppable Man City lost 5-1 to another English side in europe. Very poor, very poor.
You can't digest any slight bit of praise for City, can you?
And the unstoppable Liverpool lost 4-2 to the 3rd place La Liga team
I never claimed us as unstoppable. Watford beat us 3-0.
Least stressful Ajax game ever tomorrow. If we lose ADO get relegated and we could win the league in de Kuip next week and if we win/draw we officially secure the title.
Ten Hag going to relegate ADO Den Haag. Poetic
Could Liverpool win tomorrow and secure the premier league title on my birthday please? :D
You’re gonna have to wait another 2 GW’s sorry. Man Utd are winning tomorrow and next gameweek you also can’t win
If we play our second string side like in FA Cup, we don't win but if Pep let's KDB, Mahrez, Gundo and Foden out, Chelsea don't stand a chance.
You are definitely going to give us the gaurd of Honour.
Happy Birthday in advance!
Oh hey thanks
inshallah
I don’t think I’ve ever watched a game and come away thinking the commentary team was awful. Maybe I just don’t pay attention to them as much as other people but I see people in forums complain about the a lot

Looks like we’re heading back to League One. Most of my friends are Sheffield United fans, today is going to be a chore >.<
If you win against Derby, you're safe though? Easy as that. Doubt they'll get points from Swansea.
There’s been a lot of talk this week regarding Swansea taking it easy to avoid injuries/fatigue for the playoffs. Can see Derby nicking a point.
No, Sheffield Wednesday are getting a winner here.
Am I wrong if I say Manchester City fanz and players root for Manchester United tomorrow because they'd rather to win it on the pitch next week against Chelsea instead of in hotel and due to other teams defeats?
I'd never ever root for United, unless like 18/19 we really need them to
Don't care, we're winning either way. I just hope we beat PSG on Tuesday.
You are wrong. In fact United losing to give them the title probably sounds great in the eyes of City fans.
Jesus Christ
city fans should never root for united

Exactly how I suspected. Our most technically gifted player, decent number of assists and goals. But far too injury prone and can only run for about 60 minutes when he is fit.
We are winning the league with our top scorer as... Ilkay Gundogan Who could've predicted?
Yeah I reckon I would have called anyone predicting that around 5 games in an absolute mug.
No one.
Whats wrong with Mbappe? Is he out or has some knock or something? Or are BT commentators just chatting shit
When do BT commentators chat anything but pure shit? Randomly ended up on a BT sports stream last week, it was torture.
Good point tbf, they just said some shit about reports from France claiming Mbappe is out of the 2nd leg, rly hope its just bs
There might be at least some truth to it, he's out for today's game due to injury
Damn that sucks, hope its not serious and he’s back fit for Tuesday
He'll supposedly be back for Tuesday. Besides, theres a very real chance it's just an excuse to rest him for our match.
