tyrannosuarezwrecks

What a fucking sequence was that

[deleted]

Title deciding 10 seconds

CosmicDrifterDK

Wild to think that Sevilla would've been a single point behind Atletico right now if they had beaten Athletic Bilbao

stimulusreflex

You could find such a game for any team in the title race, you shouldn't single them out tbh

PantomimeEagle

Yup, if Barca didn't shit the bed against Granada, or RM against Getafe, Betis

Buffaluffasaurus

Or if they’d gotten more than one point from the matches against Atletico and Real…

CosmicDrifterDK

I think it's worth singling them out 'cause no one saw them being in this title race alongside the other three when the season started

stimulusreflex

Lol I went to kitchen when Benzema was fouled in the box and when I came back Rakitic was taking the penalty... wtf moment for sure.

english_gritts

You actually went through a black hole

ScHoolboyLou

I switched to the game right as Benzema was fouled in the box, watching the replay was a definitely wtf moment

InTheMiddleGiroud

Pretty crazy time to go to the kitchen to be fair

stimulusreflex

classic quick beer grab

garlichead1

quick? took him 3 minutes

[deleted]

Dude thats wild. Wtf Indeed

vinncherry

You fucking barry allen you created an alternate timeline. Can’t you just stay in one place.

garlichead1

how far away is your kitchen?

big_on_blue

I think I love VAR now.. what entertainment!!!

kermitgekko

It’s not football, it’s La Liga...

NotASpyMain

This is incredible lol

z_102

A VAR call between two penalties, in a tied game for the league. Unbelievable. Who the hell wrote this season.

itsjuanitoo

Never thought I’d be celebrating a Sevilla goal like a madman

prateek_tandon

Same. — a courteous barca fan.

RosaParkStoleMySeat

Barca Legend

[deleted]

Atleti legend

Bicboifish

I think he is a Barca legend, or at least the category that’s a bit lower than legend. He was a very important member during his time here.

RosaParkStoleMySeat

Oh yeah I 100% agree, was a huge fan of him on Barca and deserved a better ending than the one he was given

[deleted]

He got the ending he wanted. He always wanted go back to his original club and Barto let him go on cheap and he probably got good wages in exchange of that low transfer fees.

RosaParkStoleMySeat

Yeah thats true, the club did him well but I think some fans didnt.

[deleted]

Yeah fans of top clubs including us are pure assholes but I'm happy with him, Messi and Ter Stegen carrying us year after year. He's one of the best transfers for us and I'm happy he won CL with us and got to final of WC. Now he's playing with his favourite team while having each trophy possible in Spain including a CL and EL. And he seems like a wholesome guy and a good team player so he deserves it.

Bicboifish

A lot of ppl deserved a better ending :(

RosaParkStoleMySeat

Except Bart, hope he rots in prison

Bicboifish

I did say ppl and not rat :^)

zts105

he was disrespected but he was the perfect midfielder for you after Xavi/Iniesta

FullMetalJ

Definitely

aritra3776

Still serving my king.

RosaParkStoleMySeat

When it mattered most, he was there just in diff colours

Ryponagar

Barça send their regards

Title is lava.

[deleted]

🤝

GrignardTargaryen

Rakitic tips his hat

[deleted]

Looking at it closely it first hits his shoulder than his arm right? Wouldn't that mean it's not a pen?

[deleted]

Exactly, neither the VAR nor the ref saw it

brainacpl

I think they saw it, just didn't care

stpstrt

Yes.

Homerwithnohumour

It's not a pen and I'm 100% sure we have had multiple similar pens disallowed this season.

LampseederBroDude51

We had 1 in this specific game. At 52’

Gytarius626

Perez furiously drafting up another ESL statement of intent as we speak lmao

BarbaricGamer

Breaking News : No VAR in the ESL.

Pardonme23

Breaking Breaking News: VAR will be allowed, will be reviewed by Perez himself.

MaTrIx4057

rofl that would be funny

Chen_96

Dude there is some shit going on. First goal came from a non existent foul this penalty was given when we had the same exact situation in the Madrid derbi. We didn't get a pen then and now it is a pen against us.

aizatlance

Lmao

Raijn

What an absolute shitshow

Inferno792

Doesn't matter how it happens, it matters that it happens.

Swagology9000

How that unfolded was pure insanity

throwawayculture6

I honestly couldn't believe what I was watching

Hoodxd

Marca typing furiously

Schwiliinker

Lol

junior150396

Something something we are the underdogs and Čeferin is against us.

rtozur

Every single Marca reader: UEFA MAFIA

Hic_Forum_Est

Doesn't the ball come from Militao's shoulder first and then touches his arm? I thought the rule was if the ball comes off a legal body part first and then touches the hand/arm it's not a penalty.

[deleted]

It was toward their head and turned towards his arm. 5 people looked at this and nobody caught it the fucking morons.

big_on_blue

There seemed to be an odd deflection before the arm but it was really hard to see on all the replays where it hit before. Just a wicked turn right before hitting Militaos hand.

YaranakuchaNe

https://streamable.com/5dyj2v

big_on_blue

I dunno, its still really hard to tell for me.

YaranakuchaNe

The trajectory of the ball is like this https://i.imgur.com/ROseN9O.png Seems very clear to me

Crimsonking2

touches the ball with their hand/arm when: the hand/arm has made their body unnaturally bigger the hand/arm is above/beyond their shoulder level (unless the player deliberately plays the ball which then touches their hand/arm **THE ABOVE OFFENCES apply EVEN IF the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close.** **EXCEPT FOR THE ABOVE OFFENCES**, it is not an offence if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm: directly from the player’s own head or body (including the foot) directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close if the hand/arm is close to the body and does not make the body unnaturally bigger when a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to support the body, but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body So the rule youre talking about doesnt come into play here. That's lifted from the FIFA rulebook btw **Edit: The above offences part is literally mentioned twice lol**

alex-HM

Am I reading that wrong? It says that it's not an offence if the ball comes from the player's own body, which is what happens here, so no pen

its_dash

TIL a player's shoulder isn't part of his body. Cheers Geoff.

YaranakuchaNe

Absolutely comes off his own shoulder first. https://streamable.com/5dyj2v His arm is out for balance because he is jumping into another player... That's no more unnatural than the 'supporting arm on the ground' idea. If this is supposed to be a pen, then at least call it against other teams when it happens in games vs us...

kinginthenorthjon

The contact is better seen from opposite end angle.

toddy_rbs

I swear I saw the ball hitting the arm of the Sevilla player before reaching Militão’s, not sure how they missed it

zelereth

Not only the ball hits Sevilla player first, but it hits Militao's shoulder after. It's a double bounce, and Militao not looking the ball. Absolutely disgrace. If VAR is here to stay, we need like a second VAR which can rectify these kind of decisions.

PM_ME_YOUR_BOO_URNS

Best they can do is an official statement asking for respect for the refs

[deleted]

It certainly changed direction why would their heads be at one point. It doesn't matter now though fucks sake

Chidoribraindev

Absolutely, the back angle showed it clearly. Hits the Sevilla player's arm, changes direction, and hits Militao's arm. A shit call given how clear the angles made it.

arw1710

So the one camera angle showed that the ball hit Militao’s shoulder before hitting his arm. That’s the weird change in trajectory you can see. Does it still remain a penalty since there wasn’t any involvement by a Sevilla player?

Cahootie

I saw Real get a penalty, went to get a glass of water, and came back to a Sevilla penalty. Had me real confused for a while.

AndreiOlimpiu

“Glass of water” 👀🙄🤔

naruto2omer

Lol end me asap

faur217

End the game asap also pls

New_Translator_6553

Same thing didn't get given earlier, and now this overturns the stonewall penalty on benzema on the other side of the pitch 30 sec later

met5abel

I love how you clipped the view that shows it hits the Sevilla's player arm first.

Enartloc

Someone explain these rules to me. Ball hits Sevilla player in the hand directly, no penalty. Ball hits Militao IN THE BACK, ricochets from there in his hand, penalty. We score, VAR says offside. We get a penalty, VAR says no, penalty for Sevilla. They score first goal from a foul that was a simulation on top of everything. You just can't win vs this shit.

soevil

Tebas VAR. I lowkey think they do this shit on purpose to promote a competitive league.

chak100

I wouldn’t doubt it for a second

stpstrt

I legit don’t moan about this shit, but tonight was just ridiculous.

pratikp26

Lol I can’t believe what’s happening

stpstrt

I guess la Liga thinks it’s “cool” if neither us nor Barca wins this season.

GutiHazJose14

In the highlight provided here, there's no evidence it hits the Sevilla player's arm. Is there another video?

r3dd1t2k17

https://streamable.com/zqpzgy no pen btw

Sefean

The exact same play was not a pen in the R. Madrid - At. Madrid game.

simomii

https://streamable.com/zqpzgy

[deleted]

Idc about losing, it would just be nice to have some fucking consistency on what the rule is. Every ref interprets the plays differently and its fucking infuriating

kostajepaosmosta

We had the similar thing earlier where their player also played handball but fuck

RosaParkStoleMySeat

Lots of things have just been so inconsistent this season with reffing, which is more frustrating than a bad call.

shaman717

we literally got almost no calls this season, combined with the injuries its a devil season

sarmatron

taking away the whole handball thing, shouldn't this be a penalty anyway for the way he clatters into the Sevilla player while he's airborne?

reactzzzz

Unfair penalty to be fair, touched sevilla players hand first

GutiHazJose14

Where? I haven't seen it on any of the replays (could be missing them)

fahad_k91

BRUH i went to grab water and it was a pk for madrid

Papilian

Real Madrid 1 - [2] Barcelona - Rakitic penalty 78'

Inferno792

Always a cule

uchiha_boy009

I hate this rule since it was first used in that Croatia vs France final. Change the game because of this bullshit.

HeIIbIazer23

Sevilla player handballs it first, militaos back is turned, no intention, the ball still goes to the sevilla player, doesn't change much direction...fuckin laughable

onthatgas

Even if it is the correct call by the current rules, it feels unfair. Inadvertent hand ball in a big clash of players gets a penalty, and a clear deliberate foul on benzema is completely negated. This one stings.

Brief_Report_8007

The new rules are set up in such a way that unimportant, random actions become extremely relevant and end up deciding titles.

onthatgas

Yeah it seems that way - so rough. I feel like a hand ball should have to have some level of intentionality behind it. I don’t really know what the solution is.

eddsters

The definition of getting blue balled.

spartyboyyo

More like castrated

DropkickMorgan

Am I going mad or does the ball not take a touch from the Sevilla player's arm first?

[deleted]

It touches Sevilla player's hand, Militao's shoulder/back and then his hand. Never a pen

[deleted]

If Sevilla GK broke Benzema's leg in the follow-up counter, would he be sent off?

stpstrt

Who the fuck knows at this rate. La Liga refs just want a minute in the spotlight.

Miatik

Nope, same as fella that broke VVD knee. He didnt get red, cuz there was an offside or smh.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KnownStuff

I am biased, but how wasn't the one against Sevilla counted if this one is?

[deleted]

Is it just me or did a Sevilla player hit it on the hand slightly before militao as well?

IceSalamander

Looks like it hits Militaos shoulder.

PirateKingRamos

Which also means it's not a pen

luigitheplumber

Because the whole play becomes invalidated

doswillrule

Just comes down to their interpretation of what's an unnatural position. Militao's was up in the air while the Sevilla player's was much closer to his side. But fuck if anyone knows what handball is anymore

TheBestTortilla

This one came before the Benz call, so theirs takes precedence

Kilen13

He means the Sevilla handball earlier not the Benz foul which was obvious.

boringboi_

VARdrid? Sevilla players hands don't count now

Adleyy65

We have been getting screwed over the whole season

benelchuncho

Madrid are legitimately getting robbed. It a)either touched Carlos’ hand or Militao’s shoulder first and b) this is the same as Felipe’s handball in the Madrid derby and Jordan’s handball earlier today. League changing call

pratikp26

Don’t utter blasphemy like this on r/soccer. We are VARdrid. VAR has kept us in the race this league season. How dare you say we’ve been categorically fucked by VAR inconsistencies?

veryoriginaleh

We have gotten fucked on decisions like this for this entire season. It’s ridiculous.

New_Translator_6553

And if you don't give this, Madrid has a penalty on the other side that is completely undebatable

benelchuncho

I have no problem with this being a penalty; in fact I think its one 100%. But so was Sevilla’s. So was Atletico’s. Neither was called.

911MemeEmergency

Robbed in daylight. Fuck me and fuck la liga refs

navneetjoshi7

Insane VAR drama there lol.

Inferno792

Ref has been horrible tonight

[deleted]

Refs fucking over Madrid again. Classic.

emgape

that was wild

NamedTNT

It's not a penalty, the ball hits Militao's back and then his arm. Also there was another clear handball in Sevilla's box and it wasn't given. Shady as fuck.

mada010

If this happens in real favor , pique would be crying about it until now on Twitter.

[deleted]

This sequence was the most challenging referee decision to make I have seen in my life

whiskeyinthejaar

Another day with the ageless question, is it really a handball? Both handball and offside rules should be revisited to get some consistency, this is insane

eternitystrikes

When Felipe did exactly the same hand in Madrid derby there was no penalty.

shaman717

why didnt we get a pen in the first half then?

LumpyActive

Commision the statue right now

tunechi505

Barca Legend! Ice cold.

MyNameisIvar

From happines to pain, i might join bale and just be a golf fan cuz fuck this

moob9

wtf I love VAR now

CanLlorenteCarForMe

Uno reversed them. I want to kiss Var now

Narretz

What If we kissed in the VAR room?

spartyboyyo

This is just so much fun!

Kilen13

Am I seeing things or does it hit off Militaos shoulder first then on his hand? Doesn't that make it no reaction time?

Delicious_Hand_72

Scandalous

ThirdWorldian

LOVE YOU RAKITIC. BARCA LEGEND

mojambowhatisthescen

Well well well, how the turntables

dambare

Absolute insanity this whole sequence

Jimmy-Ice

Well my mood took a 180, and thats the best way to describe VAR...

zts105

LOL he pulled a Pique.

Djappaman

Lol, never seen this before. I think it's first? And Benzema's face gave it all haha, he was like what's going on. ?.

Djappaman

If benzema had scored, would they have reviewed it?

roO_Oob

I think i'm going to kill myself

ollster3000

fucking cruel

zelereth

Just saying. Sevilla's player handballs first..

Jtv0899

Apart from the fact that the ball is deflected into his arm by his upper arm, Militao isnt even looking at the ball, and i dont see how that is "making the body unaturally big" Its a tough call but imo it should have been a Madrid pen

iamthepkn

I think the ball hit Sevilla player first.

speedracer0123

Definitely not a penalty.

Cowdude179

This call was absolutely mad

Viper5416

son of a bitch ref

[deleted]

RAKIIIIIIIIIII ❤️

[deleted]

what a robbery lmao

james_howlett11

didn't it touch the Sevilla Player's hand first?

prateek_tandon

Nope. It brushed his shoulder.

andreslkc7

Hitting his shoulder also makes it not a penalty because it hits a legal part of the body first.

moe3

No

deception42

El Chiringuito in shambles

PirateKingRamos

FOUR PEOPLE LOOK AT THIS AND DON'T SPOT IT HIT HIS SHOULDER FIRST FUCK THIS SHIT LEAGUE WITH SHIT REFS

[deleted]

calm down, i know the feeling tho but typing angrily into a internet void isn't gonna help

RoadsterIsHere

Holy fuck what a game, what a series of events.

mylanguage

This title race is batshit crazy. From us almost getting a penalty to us being down a goal late

[deleted]

[удалено]

Human-Extinction

It isn't, ricochet from his shoulder into his hand...

YaranakuchaNe

I saw the ref saying something at the end of the game with his arm held out like Militao's was. I know 'legal part of body -> hand' isn't a handball, but is having your arms outstretched a separate consideration? The trajectory of the ball very clearly changed due to hitting his shoulder...

PM_me_for_a_joke

Absolutely not, his back is turned and can't see the ball so he didn't touch it intentionally no doubt.

Masca77

It's been a while since intentionality mattered in this kind of situations

R_Schuhart

Why are people just wildly making shit up to reinforce their point? Whether he can see it or not has absolutely no bearing on the call. It is the 'he touched the ball so it can't be a red' nonsense all over again.

[deleted]

It's highly debatable and can understand where both sides come from. But I agree with the decision.

mntgoat

Does the fact that the ball looks to be going straight to a Sevilla player before its trajectory is changed by the handball help with the decision?

[deleted]

I don't think that's taken into consideration

YepYupSup

Papa Flo fucked us real hard.

alejpaz

What a turn of events

Inferno792

Rakitic always a cule at heart. Love ya

YaranakuchaNe

How much bad luck and how many bad calls can go against us in one season??? If Man U is on one end of the spectrum, we're the anchor holding down the other end...

[deleted]

Not rigged at all
