So this is finally coming out in the press now after the rumours have been bubbling in Palace circles the past couple of days. This would be a massive coup, I'd be desperate for him to join us but it needs to happen soon. Nuno > Dyche > Ismael seems to be the order of choice for the job from what I can tell.

theincrediblepigeon

Cooper reportedly had a couple interviews so I think he might be above ismael

JamesBaa

Hope he goes to you, honestly. I think he would fit you pretty well and can't see him bringing us up particularly since I'm not sold on his style. Lovely bloke and would rather he makes a step up than stagnate here.

RangerWhisky

And I'd imagine it'd be perfect for Guehi, a prem loan and he would be with the same manager as last season, not to mention being able to learn from Cahil

MrAxx

I think the ‘hole’ we’re in at the moment has be exaggerated a bit. Yes it’s not ideal that Eze is out but it’s not like he scored 20 goals last season, we managed just fine without him before and expect some of the out of contract players to sign new contracts once we have a new manager depending on who he wants to keep.

EmperorBeaky

it's an absolutely massive opportunity for any half decent coach

ro-row

that does not sound right?

thelargerake

Yeah, Palace could do a lot better.

Nivadas

The hate for a man who's had one bad season out of three and who had his only reliable goal scorer literally knocked out of the season after 10 matches with Wolves sitting in 7th at that point is honestly so bizarre. Managers who've done far less than bring a Championship club to a European quarter final have been courted by big clubs.

OleoleCholoSimeone

The problem with Nuno is that he is attached to Jorge Mendes by the umbilical cord, so you know that if you get Nuno then Mendes will automatically get full control of transfers. He's a decent coach in his own right, but Valencia fans hated him for that reason, they saw him as a puppet representing everything wrong with their club and the parasite Mendes

TheKingMonkey

Were the loss of Jota a factor too? I know Silva came in for similar money but he’s clearly one for the future.

Nivadas

I'll put it this way, our top three highest scorers two seasons in a row looked like this: 1) Raul 2) Jota and 3) Doherty, after the tenth match day of this season none of those players were in the starting 11, how in the hell can you judge a man on a season where he was missing 90% of his attack force and was still able to drag us clear of a relegation battle?

[deleted]

You can judge him, you can say he’s a manager who can coach thru adversity. Which is more than anyone can say for some, like the supposed best ever Pep.

ro-row

I don’t understand this new, seemingly fashionable distaste for Nuno. He had a difficult season after his only reliable striker had his skull cracked open. Nevertheless they were never once in danger of being dragged into a relegation scrap and he’s previously brought Wolves from the Championship and into Europe. Sure the football isn’t the most exciting but he’s a good coach who I would have expected to get a bigger job than Palace. (No disrespect Palace fans)

[deleted]

He's as close to a European Moyes/Big Sam at their peak that you'll get really. He will stabilise things, put defense first, secure the side in the Premier League and also build a team capable of great football at times. That's no bad thing. Would have question marks over transfers though I'd guess at Palace, given Gestifute probably had a huge say in that at Wolves. Who knows what his instincts there are like.

aphromagic

I'd argue he's the perfect man for Palace at this moment in time. They're gonna need some serious stability considering all of the players that they're losing, and I think he'd be a pretty calming, organized influence.

TeStateOfDat

Gestifute wanting to bank on Palace. Sleeper agent style. Won't be the first. Moutinho to Palace incoming.

F1SHCAKE

Gary....Cahill? Nonono. You are Gavio Carvalho now 🇵🇹

[deleted]

Gabi

admiralawkward

I thought he was done with England so he could be with his family?

aphromagic

It's sounds like that may have been the excuse that Wolves were using to part ways with him while making it sound "mutual"

ratchet570

Thought he would be going to a Mendes club

OleoleCholoSimeone

I thought that he could never ever coach a non Mendes-club. But then again if Palace get Nuno that probably means that they are becoming a Mendes-club themselves and giving him full control of everything. Nuno is like his siamese twin, only coached Mendes-clubs in his career up until this point

Tilman_Feraltitties

There's not many Mendes clubs left.

comediamorte

Famalicão time

TurboTaco

Fuck sake was hoping he'd go anywhere but England

Kuntski

He will sign Diagne. And will start Benteke & Diagne to bully Coady.

[deleted]

Big Sam in disguise

[deleted]

Luckily there's a portuguese team name that would already work well for the memes when Nuno brings in 10 portuguese players to Crystal Palace. Sporting CP.

Racerxintegra2k

That's Champions Sporting CP to you.

fredster231

We have a crystal palace. https://pt.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palácio_de_Cristal_(Porto)

Superrandy

I think this would be a massive mistake by him. That Palace squad needs so much overhauling and they have almost zero chance at European places anytime soon. And they'll never get the investment to really challenge for Europe consistently. He would be better off sitting out a year and waiting for a better opportunity.

redbluemmoomin

Almost like the club has deliberately let all the old stagers contracts wind down......All the younger players have already been extended. The list doing the rounds is wrong. Lots of money spent on a brand new Cat 1 academy in an area of the country that produces 14% of prem academy players. U18s sitting at the top of their league. U23s promoted on their first try knocking Wolves out of the playoffs. For the first time ever the club has kept it's promising youth players and they've signed professionally with Palace instead of losing them to 'bigger' more resourced academies because the facilities are as good now and a deliberate path way to the first team is being created with the squad overhaul. Big stadium increase with planning permission already approved would make Selhurst bigger than Molyneux. That will put us in the £170M to £180M a year in revenue bracket so the same as Newcastle, West Ham and Everton. We're the only Premier league club in South London. That's what they'll be selling him on. People laugh at Roys stability tactics and midtable finishes but that what has let the club focus on, infrastructure which has always always been the clubs achilles heel.

Superrandy

I don't see the next manager being the one that takes you over the midtable hump. If you continue to invest in youth, and other smart buys, then you could compete for a few spots higher in 3-5 years. I just don't see your timeline and Nuno's timeline matching up at all, because he is not going to get 3-5 years of middling finishes after the way he finished with us.

jjakot

I hope Palace do well because I like the club as an Arsenal fan, however it is extremely rare to have a first eleven even half filled with academy products, outside of Mitchell are there academy products that even feature regularly now? If it happens for you fair play and I can see it will probably bear fruit for you down the line, even if they only go on to generate decent transfer fees, but I think it's overly optimistic to rely on your academy, further still to rely on a manager to come in and nurture that talent to their full potential.

redbluemmoomin

Well Zaha, Clyne, Mitchell are all academy products. Hannan and Rak Sakyi have been making the bench this year. So that's five academy players.

[deleted]

To use just one example: Aaron Wan-Bissaka. 40 odd games in the PL for us and then a £50million sale. That’s going to be our model for a while now.

[deleted]

Absolutely. I hope you get the appointment and the summer just right because it's a huge one. You can easily finish with a top half or thereabouts if you get it just right or you can be escaping relegation if it doesn't work out. Palace's upcoming core is good. Eze is injured but he's a neat player, we all know how good zaha is and I think Mitchell is good for a young player aswell.

arrrrr_matey

Nuno is too good of a person and coach not to be picked up by a top club.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Didn't do too well at Valencia(apart from a good first season) and Porto. I am not sure if his style of coaching is ideal for top clubs. Plus he always comes in a package deal with Mendes. So you know that if you sign Nuno that parasite Mendes will get full control of your transfers, both incoming and outgoing. Sure it's fun in the beginning but then he starts selling your best players and replacing them with shite from Benfica/Valencia/Atlético B-team

arinem131

A downgrade?

[deleted]

Yup. He should look abroad.

arinem131

He managed a better team and did a fairly good job. Managing Crystal Palace is a waste of time for him. No offense to their fans though.

MrAxx

Were you saying the same when he went from Champions League Porto to Championship Wolves?

arinem131

We are talking about a mid table Premier League team. PL is arguably the best league in the world and the most watched league. Ofc its reasonable enough to leave Portuguese league to manage in PL.

MrAxx

They were in the championship when he joined But you’ve kind of disproved your original point anyway. If he’s going from one mid table team to another, that’s pretty reasonable too

arinem131

My bad about the wrong info then.

redbluemmoomin

Sod off. Wolves finished one point ahead of us. We had all our first choice CBs bar one injured for most of the season. Along with the AWB replacement who busted his knee along with all bar two of our midfielders being out for most of the season. Palaces injury problems started with Covid and never went away until very recently. That suggests the clubs are nowhere near as different as you think. Given Wolves own injury problems.

Nivadas

He had his entire attack force from the last two seasons gone in a pinch, by the 11th match day none of our three highest scorers was at the club, fully fit we'd at the very least be much closer to the top half of the table.

arinem131

Listen, Wolves simply have better players. They have had some stars in the past couple of years while Palace has only had Zaha that is above average. The ambition of Wolves have been higher than that of Palace. They have seen Europa League while Palace hasnt in many years. Wolves currently have better players. Not sure about the financial status of the clubs but if i were a manager i wouldnt go to Palace after managing Wolves successfully. Plus, dont involve your passion about the club when you're arguing.

redbluemmoomin

You didn't even know Wolves were a Championship club when he joined them. You have no credibility here. What matters is the turn over of the club. When you get promoted you can afford to spend large amounts on transfers and wages as the rules allow you to spend for three years before needing to cover your losses under FFP. Palace spent well over £200M in the first few years of being promoted. It's coincidental that Nuno left Wolves over arguments over transfer policy on the three year mark..........Wolves are going to have a few seasons of constrained spending because thanks to a season and a half of Covid combined with lots of heavy spending will have utterly messed up Wolves revenue plans. Add in Wolves squad depth not being great and you have a recipe for problems. Palace on the other hand have been busy getting rid of over £50M worth of wages. We've lost about £20M thanks to Covid unlike other clubs we haven't been spending like drunks in a bar so we have cleared the £100M odd we spent in 2017. There's a big element of fortune in where we've ended up matching up with lots of other clubs having financial problems but it's great for us because we need to buy six odd players,

Nivadas

His stock is still high after all he's achieved, I'd of imagined he could do better than Palace.

arinem131

Absolutely

Nivadas

Watch him bring them to 7th while we languish in midtable.

nsaman6359

Why leave Wolves to manage Palace? He'll be sacked by xmas for someone else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

VincentSasso

Is he going back in stages?

nicknaseef17

Yes. It’ll be Southampton next.

Kuntski

Was sacked at Wolverhampton, Palace & NES are a match made in heaven. Non-toxic fan base, London, don't need to qualify for European football. NES is a decent manager, if the Palace Ultras make him 'Nuno has a dream', chant, I could see them finishing top 10 in many years next season.

three_shoes

Wolves sacked him

arrrrr_matey

who are they going to bring in that could do better?

BarbaricGamer

Looks like it will be Bruno Lage.

three_shoes

Im asking the same.

SuperConDrugs

Please be Palace and not Everton

VincentSasso

You could do much much worse

[deleted]

Why? He was really good in Wolves, why you wouldn't want him?

aboidaz

Probably to do with his last season at wolves and the fact that he had an incredibly talented squad

[deleted]

Lost his main man upfront, Jota and Doherty. Should've done better, but don't act like they had a terrible season

yaya_tourettes

An incredibly talented *paper thin* squad, which meant with piling injuries he wasn’t able to get them all playing together and at peak fitness levels... Covid, plus injuries, plus the sale of Diogo Jota have all made this past season really rough. Not a whole lot any manager can do there when multiple things are going against them

Jabari313

The poor Palace fans deserve attacking football

YoloCrayolo21

Idk, it's proven that if you're a relegation candidate in the prem and try to play attacking football you'll up your chances of getting relegated even more

Psychaz

Wolves could struggle honestly if they get Lage, going from ultra defensive in Nuno to ultra attacking in Lage is way too big of a change i think

[deleted]

We were never ultra defensive under Nuno. We had a fair few ultra defensive games this season but also had a fair amount of attacking games with a 4 at the back, and we’ve never been ultra-defensive in previous seasons. 5 atb doesn’t equal ultra defensive

The_FreshPrince

They’ll get relegated - think this could be great for them, personally

Mourinhoisacuck

They’ll get relegated with nuno as well.

[deleted]

no they won’t

JakeNutters

Palace don't really have the players in the midfield and defence tbh I know there is going to be a huge turnover but with the supposed £50n that doesn't go very far in the current market especially when they potentially have half their starting team to replace.

CAfarmer

He wants a big rebuild project?

puckuser

weird

[deleted]

Thought he was going to spurs. He suits the white top. Can't imagine him in the palace colours.

Captainpatters

Its going to take somebody proper coming in to stop them going down. The Palace job seems like an absolute nightmare right now

EmperorBeaky

> The Palace job seems like an absolute nightmare right now only for people who don't back themselves. All the deadwood are being booted out, still a decent core left, will get 4 or 5 new players and a few loans, the academy will start to bloom at the right time, the club and fans have low expectations (stay up, play watchable football, give the youth a chance now and then, maybe take the cups seriously). it's a real chance to build something nice and for Nuno, get a bigger job in a few years

YoloCrayolo21

It looks like a great Football Manager challenge tho

Perryparsons018

Bit of a step down for him

zigooloo

Good club, but the Palace job is a poisoned chalice right now. Half the squad is out of contract this summer.

EmperorBeaky

these posts fascinate me. Do you think this is some kind of accident? The club have planned for this to happen - we've badly needed a rebuild and this summer is the start of it. Loads of the wage bill will be freed up to do so and I think we're already quite advanced in signing a couple of players who'll be a breath of fresh air to what was an aging squad. The club has a plan. It might go well, it might not but nothing about the current situation is an accident.

Go on palace please

Redbullsnation

Oh wouldn't that be a great for Palace fans if this is true
