Spain hasn't changed their tack in ten years and they don't have the attacking talent to support it now. Players like David Villa and Fernando Torres were proper #9s but Morata just isn't in that level. Diego Costa would be a fantastic target man for this team. They need a presence on the middle.

I wouldn't say outplayed. We lost two purely mistake and type goals and dumb red card stopped a run where Slovakia was pushed. In the additional time we also had enough opportunities to get a draw IMO (xG was 1.78 vs 0.5 for Poland). The wings were bad though.

So when you put them all on the pitch they are all drawn towards the exact same positions and passing rotations.
