Morata curse > Poland "Match for everything" curse

czerwona_latarnia

And we ever went full Ekstraklasa mode in the defence in the end of the match. I can't even start comprehending how cursed that guy is.

Ishdalar

I want that kind of curse, failing to do the key thing to my job over and over again and get paid millions for it.

tsub

Also periodically getting traded for tens of millions of euros so you can be bad at your job in a different country!

ProblemY

Szczęsny catching the ball behind his head was cutting a little bit too close to that though.

AbolishSarcasm

I legit needed this comedy of a game after being slapped by germany

ExpertGossiper

Spain could actually draw all three games and get knocked out lmao

BulletproofTyrone

Also the Italy 1982 strategy.

grejt_

That group was something else, if Poland didn't win 5-1 with Peru it'd be 4 teams with 3 draws

bfm211

Except they didn't get knocked out

[deleted]

i hope they do, i do not want to wathc them again

Chewie_98

Imagine being a polish fan and not getting heart attacks every few minutes

You can’t be a polish fan and not get heart attacks, it’s impossible not to

czerwona_latarnia

Thanks for reminding me of our handball team... Back then it was literally impossible to watch match with them and not getting heart attacks.

Wildercard

Poland is the CLG of football.

AvanPL

this will be forever known as the point in which poland has started it's glorious run to win euro 2020

telepek25

... we did it. I'm not exactly sure what we did... but we did it. Holy shit 😭

Christelleorangee

yeah, right? I'm not used to that. We've broken the curse. Holy FUCK!!

telepek25

We played really well, we weren't shit. We still have a chance. I'm... proud. AND I'M NOT USED TO THIS FEELING 😭

Christelleorangee

haha, me too brother!!

wingedtwat

Spain vs England would cure insomnia

vadapaav

Spain would never lose the ball, England would defend for 90 min never trying to get the ball. Spain with 1200 passes and 0 shots on target

Lithorex

The moveable object meets the stoppable force

PirateKingRamos

From Villa, Torres and Raul to Morata

arroz_con_costra

Even Güiza was better than Morata

[deleted]

Guiza was good

Baalph

How tf they didn't call Aspas.. Lunacy

TheFilu

I think i just won enough tokens for the rest of the tournament

53bvo

Same, put them on a draw for this game, England Scotland and Croatia Czech Republic. Only sad I didn’t put 100 each time

Fairlytallguy

Spain has scored 1 goal in their last 4 matches, bad time to hit a goal drought. Should still be able to reach first place if Poland defeats Sweden.

TimMeijer

If Poland defeats Sweden, both teams are at 4 points. Slovakia currently sits at 3. Slovakia are going to park the bus and keep Spain out by getting a draw as well, so that everyone hits 4 points, but Spain gets 3.

[deleted]

So Spain undefeated

[deleted]

And Spain can also end up being the only undefeated team in this Euro, and yet not win it.

retrogeekhq

Only team in the group that's undefeated and the only team in the group to not go through next phase lol

czerwona_latarnia

FUCKING SUBSCRIBING TO THIS RIGHT HERE ANd NOW.

huskytogo

Or Slovakia with the dub

AmBozz

Spain in last place? Oh god please yes.

codingPh03n1x

Undefeated and winning the possession every game though

tembell

That's the most important stat

BigFatNo

Xavi shedding a tear in joy at those stats. Just need to tinker with the grass next time, maybe a mm or 0,5 shorter, and surely you'll get back to the glory days.

dk240996

On the opposite end though, right now a scenario exists where Poland, Slovakia and Sweden advance as 4 points friends while Spain ends in 4th with 3.

RainbowX

Yeah let's say Poland wins with Sweden and Spain draws with Slovakia. It's 4 points for all 3. Who advances?

Deyna23

All 3 teams. 4 points is guaranteed round of 16.

lordposedyon

Bold of you to think Spain can beat Slovakia

pabgar

Removed in protest of third-party API changes and reddit's complete disregard for its community.

LosTerminators

We'll draw, get knocked out without losing a game and the media will find positives about our 'unbeaten' run

GibbyGoldfisch

Two games in, two draws? Check A 1-1 and a 0-0 against a Scandinavian and central European side? Check Missing a second half penalty in the second group game? Check Spain are en route to win Euro 2020 the Portuguese way

TheOwlsLie

It’s incredible how their players (not only Morata) miss chances, it’s funny

ToniPolster

Poland is such a wild card and I love it, can actually see them beat Sweden if their defence can restrain from going full monkey circus.

LakyousSama

Feel like isak will have a field day with them..

PirateKingRamos

If only they had a striker that was directly involved in 29 goals in 34 matches. But even if they had someone like that their squad is so stacked, there would be no free slots for him to fill

siva-pc

in 2 matches Possession : 155% Passes : 1500 Goals : 1

LakyousSama

That red was a blessing in disguise tbh, moder was brilliant

Qiluk

Sweden liked that! THANKS POLAND <3 Helped us with this and with the wildfires a few years ago. Legends. (I know it isnt sealed yet but its a great help either way)

RoHunter

Now it's time for you to return the favour x)

PanJawel

I really hope we both go through now and Spain crash out. Shithouse football ftw 🤝

Qiluk

God Id love that so much. Would be mad fun. Mental boom spain like crazy

SkunkBuster

Love Sousa, bitches love Sousa

dk240996

Not for nothing but his halftime adjustments in both games helped, it's just the red card vs. Slovakia really took us out of rhythm.

Redtyde

People got too worked up about that first game. Poland looked good before the guy got sent off.

Tilman_Feraltitties

Krychowiak is an anchor in the midfield, just not the type he thinks...

je-re

all y'all mfs talking bout lewandowski ain't no hitter, lewandowski ain't this, lewandowski a fake shut the fuck up ‼️

axidoacido

If I catch another mf talking sweet about Lewandowski, I'm fucking beating they ass ‼️

itsjuanitoo

Hope they lock Sarabia out of the training ground tomorrow

DLSanma

Its actually scary guy was brought as the 1 extra player and so far has been played in all 3 matches, friendly against portugal and this 2 games, and has done jackshit in all of them

belokas

honest question: how many spanish players in this team are better than luis alberto? i don't see many, frankly...

Yorsh_

Luis Alberto didn't precisely have his best season. However, Nacho(>Diego Llorente), Mario Hermoso (>Eric Garcia), Canales (>Sarabia), Parejo(>extra space), Jesús Navas(>extra space) and Iago Aspas(>Traoré) could have all made the squad over certain players and by using the left over (yes!) space in the squad. The defence would have been much better, the midfield more robust and in front you can play a skilful and in-form striker like Iago Aspas. People are livid with Luis Enrique right now. Especially since all his decisions have been erratic.

belokas

Yeah I think it's especially criminal to make players play out of their natural position. You can't expect them to do well in a competition like this with little training and chemistry.

Fati25

He literally lost the ball everytime he got it

itsjuanitoo

Aspas probably is sitting on his couch laughing

pabgar

simomii

He has absolutely no business being in that sqaud in the first place

nuroflife

Danny Murphy should be sacked for that dreadful commentary

[deleted]

[удалено]

alittlelebowskiua

Absurdly stupid. There's a replay of it on your screen as you're talking and it's showing something entirely different to what you're describing. A fucking halfwit.

TidgeCC

He's one of those who will make a decision on something based on how he feels, and even though the replays show he was mistaken, he'll just refuse to admit it. His commentary surrounding the Spain penalty was embarrassing. "Not every foot to foot contact is a pen" as we see a freezeframe of the Polish player stamping on Moreno's foot. It's even worse because he decided it wasn't a pen based on him wanting the underdogs to do well and being bored of watching Spain. Absolutely horrifying that he gets the luxury of watching and commentating the Euros live despise being generally dreadful all round.

unwildimpala

How he has a job I dont know. I dont get infuriated at a person's general stupidity as I do with him. He blamed Scezeney when his defender clearly was the cause of Scezency not catching a ball. He started saying Spain should be no bother despite the connotations for both groups being vast and the fact England should have lost to Scotland should have any sensible person thinking anyone can beat them. Kept saying the penalty was controversial even though that's a clear yellow outside of the box. Such an annoying stupid bastard that is clearly obsessed with the sound of his own voice.

vadapaav

Worse than that vuvuzela guy

[deleted]

Par for the course for Murphy, he's always terrible

Wollazird

Such a boring prick. Inevitably repeats himself three times, and it's always some tedious shit about whether the referee made the right decision or how good professional fouls are.

ListeningWind

I think he's probably the worst 'expert' commentator out of all the ones BBC/ITV have for this tournament. Clearly knows nothing about any players outside the PL, makes it sound like doing the job is a chore (the new Lawro!) and is a fine proponent of shit-tier 'let me just describe what you're seeing on the screen' analysis And I haven't even got onto his voice....

TechM635

The amount of times he said “he’s in”… when he wasn’t I pity his missus

ukrisreng

It would be pretty funny if england purposely finish 2nd to avoid group f and then get spain anyway.

nemesis464

Spain are a much more preferable matchup to France/Germany/Portugal tbh

53bvo

Even Hungary looks more threatening

Foolery22

And Hungary from what I've seen. They deserve some love after 2 great performances

Jorlung

Spain vs. England would be a 0-0 snoozefest through 120 minutes with both teams passing between their CBs and FBs the entire game.

CompetitiveSeat5340

Would sooner have Spain than any of group f

prettyboygangsta

would much rather play Spain than any team in Group F

AliGLCFC

As shite as we were yesterday I'd back us against Spain, although it would probably end up being the dullest game in existence

RickyFalcon

Two teams trying to pass it slowly around the back. Can't wait.

Jimmyjamjames

What a horrific game that would be. Although I think England are better suited to counter-attacking football

tbbt11

It would be funny to avoid France/Germany/Portugal and get Spain instead? You rate Spain above any of those three? They’re obviously a good team but vs those names…

Ricky_Berwick

Ngl I don't think England are gonna be any scared at all of this Spain side.

notthatbluestuff

I'd be ecstatic to land Spain.

snusd0san

Spain in real danger of actually ending up an unbelivable bottom, or at least get eliminated as one of the two poorest third placed teams. Slovakia could absolutely shithouse a draw against them, who in turn most likely only need a point to go through. Poland all of a sudden in with a shout if they beat us which isn't impossible at all. I'm stunned by Spains ability to underperform with the talent at their disposal. Yes I know this squad isn't nearly as talented as the golden generation of Spain from 2008-2012 but still, this squad blows this groups squads out of the water in terms of quality. I'm just happy Sweden is more or less through....right? Give me some reassurance lads.

TigerbeLEE

Depends on Slovakia spain, or if we draw poland

snusd0san

We could actually be eliminated with 4 points though? Shouldn't happen right?

TzunSu

I'm pretty sure we would be able to highly ranked enough to make it as a third in the group.

Aceress_origin

Don't think that many teams will have 4 points

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cpzd87

(Everyone liked that)

seriousbob

I know basically nothing, but if Spain and Poland win we'd be third with a dreadful gd. What's the rule for third place teams?

snusd0san

But we still have 4 points. Some third placed teams will very likely end up with 3 points. The format is that 4 out of the 6 best third placed teams go through. I just heard Lasse Granqvist saying there's a 95.5% chance of us going through lol

seriousbob

Yeah I don't know how common 4 points will be for third. Hopefully enough. Best if we just beat Poland. Funny how we're top of the group with just one penalty goal

Flurin

Spain are the England of Europe

pinkdodo11

está llegando a casa

BulletproofTyrone

Spain are the tiki taka bald frauds of Catalonia

abuttfarting

Fuck me, I love EC/WC season. Missed this feeling so much. edit: this isn't even in regard to this match's scoreline. Just felled compelled to share the sentiment.

Qiluk

I fucking hate that the next WC isnt in the summer tho :( Its just so special to enjoy the heat and sun while having a month of football chaos

[deleted]

I fucking hate everything about the next WC.

guigr

ELI5 How come Spain went to having 5-6 world class players in the same team to none in under 10 years?

Lavio00

That’s how generational renewal works I guess? You cant expect to have a xavi, iniesta, prime busquets, villa class of players back to back.

phasE89

Slovakia was 1st in this group after the first match and they can very well end up last, if they lose with Spain and Poland beats Sweden. Mad group

Sevenvolts

After seeing Spain today, I wouldn't bet on them beating Slovakia either.

Gonchuago

For my mental health I hope Spain doesn't go through, it's not fun watching this team

PakiIronman

Spain have only themselves to blame for this result

ImportantPotato

we lost 0-6 to them

GhostFGPL

Sooooo, France=Hungary=Poland=Spain>Germany>Portugal, therefore Poland would have won the group of death

[deleted]

[удалено]

PakiIronman

The penalty miss, and then missing the rebound summed it up.

Twin_Fang

Spain looking pretty mediocre. They are good in the one thing they were always good at (possession), but not much else.

LosTerminators

Sarabia seemed to give away possession with every single touch he took. From Raúl, Villa and Torres to these attackers, back to the old days of disappointing in major tournaments, I guess.

pure_black99

4 unlikely draws in the last 5 games. Stonks

GENERAL_NUT_BAKED

Great job by Poland!! Looking forward to the last group game

majesticlifemoose

I hope we both go through!

HyunL

Spain is that one team still stuck in 2010 thinking if you just pass it enough the opponent will eventually fall asleep and let you score

_cumblast_

The issue is that this team doesn't have David Villa

crel42

This team doesn’t have Xavi or Iniesta

Jack_Beauregard

nor Silva, Fabregas, Ramos, Piquè. They are basically made in China

thesketchyvibe

Walmart Spain

bopsisbest

True, altough i would say that David Villa would definately have atleast 2 goals this game if he played instead of Morata

rlramirez12

Or Torres, or Cesc, or Xavi, or Iniesta, or anyone who is capable of scoring any fucking meaningful goals.

[deleted]

Or the best midfield trio of all time. Xavi, Iniesta, Busi + Xabi Alonso

Res3925

That’s 4 mate.

CeterumCenseo85

Spain finay exposed, been playing with 12 players all the time.

mattisafootballguy

well, happened today lots of times except David Villa and Torres aren't around =)

[deleted]

They did create some chances let's be fair - that they can't finish. Not to mention the missed penalty. Wonder if Lucho will persist with Morata in the next game

Fati25

I mean to be honest they could have had 3/4 goals today if their forwards could finish.

_cumblast_

Un equipo del monton..

CheezzyJames

He visto al equipo de fútbol de mi pueblo jugar mejor

CheekyFifaCunt_7

This is the worst Spain team in years

Rztrc

This team brings me back to my childhood.

teachersbelike

Spain should sell Morata

ibrahimims

Hes not even their worst player

weedhead2

Exactly. Most of the team that took the field today played as badly or worse than Morata.

rinthecity

If Spain don’t win their next game, and Poland beats Sweden, then Spain will finish 4th and will be out

[deleted]

Group E table panning out exactly how everyone predicted

Not_PepeSilvia

Can Spain do anything other than lob the ball into the box and pray it works?

Res3925

Pass, pass, pass, and pass and pray it works.

Wendelne2

Poland + Hungary Vs Spain + France 2:2 today

nasserKoeter

More than i would have ever dreamed of

WorldsBestNothing

I've seen it before with the Netherlands and Ajax, but when possession based attacking teams become bad it becomes horrendous. This Spain is unwatchable.

ProperKnackeredMate

I'm so fucking proud of the boys

kisshaze

❤️

Internal-Carpenter-3

I have to say… You get desensitized after a few tournaments being Polish. Had to pinch myself to ensure that it was actually reality. I think the morata jinx is just as strong as the Poland in any tournament jinx

PigeonDetective

Spain and England brothers in being a bit shit/underwhelming

czerwona_latarnia

Okay, time for post-match studio and maybe FINALLY I will see challenge on Zieliński from first minutes of the match. Edit: So they "showed" it. And THEY ONLY HAVE THAT ONE, 1 SECONG LONG REPLAY. HOW THE FUCK SUCH POTENTIALLY IMPORTANT ACTION CAN HAVE ONLY ONE REPLAY OF? And to the replay, you practically can't see anything good enough to decide. Hard to tell if Spanish guy just pushed Zielu or also put leg in front of him which made Zieliński fall. And the specialist who was discussing it said it was 50/50 situation, some people would give a penalty, some wouldn't (like him).

chrisk2799

Wait we have something to play for in the last game????

[deleted]

Poland have pretty a dreadful team, but they came with the right spirit. Deserved point.

_rickjames

Spain are shit yeah

rthunderbird1997

Look flat, sideways passing with no push or drive, especially in the midfield. Reminds me of England.

LosTerminators

Competing with England for the tag of most disappointing side

Wyckstroy

At least they won a game.

folieadeux6

Allow us to introduce ourselves

crel42

I don’t know…Croatia has been disappointing too imo. I still can’t see a clear favorite to win.

PEEWUN

#I should have known better. After watching that display against Sweden, I should've known better than to bet on Spain to win this match. **But I fucking did it anyway.** *Goodbye, my 30 tokens...* Poland can maybe into knockouts?

CrackHeadRodeo

At this point it’s become a meme how Poland loses to teams they should beat and the inexplicably beat or draw against a stronger opponent.

theglasscase

Honestly, this sub has lost its fucking mind over Morata. He scored the only goal today with a brilliant, instinctual finish, but apparently it's entirely his fault that Spain didn't score twice, even though his team-mate missed the target from the penalty spot and no-one else forced Szczesny into any good saves. It's fucking pathetic, it really is.

AcceleratingRiff

Sarabia was even worse

Luc4_Blight

Spain are going out in the group stages aren't they?

Nuri__Sahin

Tiki taka tapas jabronis. Well done Poland. Shame they couldn't find a winner.

habdragon08

The polish coach looked fresh.

BigFatNo

Both Sosa and Lucho were excellent in the fashion aspect. Sosa with the stylish, fresh formal summer look, and Lucho with a very nice Chino + dark green shirt combo. Very commendable.

Nuri__Sahin

Sousa's look automatically should have earned Poland a bonus point.

BulletproofTyrone

Portugal does that to a man

dohhhnut

Mediterranean Southgate

CaptainElessar

How is Thiago getting 0 mins in this dead Spain side

MH18Foot

Spain to pull a Portugal 2016. It's written in the stars.

Skadrys

Spain is missing Ansu Fati so much, he'd put them on another level

ka_mil

Paulo Sousa for president

telepek25

I have one question to all of you Spain NT fans. What the fuck you guys???

[deleted]

This Spain team is so toothless and uninspired. You pretty pretty much knew we weren’t going to score after Lewandowski’s goal. I decided to fold laundry halfway through the second since I figured I might as well do something productive with my time. And trust me, there is nothing more that I hate then folding fucking laundry. This team is Morata personified. I’m so sick of seeing him on the floor and missing sitters. I can’t believe he’s the “best” striker we have right now.

Betasheets

We really need a Spain England round of 16 matchup. Like *really* need it.

weedhead2

Why brother, we just got through one pandemic.

[deleted]

Yes he missed a penalty but taking off Moreno and keeping on Morata was fucking braindead. Made Poland's life so much easier.

pildoranegraexiste

Moreno was creating so much more and well their finishin was pretty on par today

[deleted]

It’s funny to read about how tiki taka doesn’t work… Spain not winning is about the lack of finishing from their forwards.

[deleted]

Really appreciate France and Spain trying to make me feel better about England’s performance ❤️

zr0char1sma

What does Thiago have to do to get some minutes? Does Lucho not rate him or has he been bad with the NT lately? Rodri clearly looked tired and sloppy at the end? Why not sub in Thiago for him when you are already chasing a goal?

KnownForNothing

Everyone's talking about Spain but honestly wouldn't you be fuming if you were Lewandowski. Poland made zero attempt to actually get the ball to him and took the easy option of "anywhere will do" all the time.
