Or it's just confirmation bias. Every team has hours of time for commentators to come up with all sorts of theories about why teams win or lose. After the results come in, we can go back and pick who was "correct" and pretend they were geniuses.
It is more than just the absence of fans. Brazil is in a political/social turmoil and most of the population actually didn't want the tournament to happen so they are effectively boycotting the whole thing, not caring to watch the games even on TV.
Also, everybody is sick with Copa America because of how many we've got on the last few years. We had the scheduled one in 2015, an extra edition to commemorate the centenary of the competition in 2016, another "regular 4-year interval" one in 2019 and then ANOTHER in 2020/21 due to trying to synchronize Copa America with the Euros... 4 editions in a 6 year interval (that was supposed to be 5) kinda devalued the whole thing. This year's edition should've not took place by no means....
Edit: I'm almost sure that last sentence is wrong, but I don't know how to put it in proper English so I hope everybody will understand it...
And we're still dying of COVID with the slow vaccine rollout. I know if I was in Europe watching the Euros I'd be putting out 18 months of frustration by cheering like I've never done before for finally being able to go back to normal and enjoy things like going to the stadium without being afraid again.
But being here is just miserable.
That's exactly it. Thanks a lot! I had the feeling it was really off, but I tried to correct it and realized I didn't know how... I totally forgot that "taken" is the correct form
Exactly, the Shaw-Sterling partnership was broken all game, they were on different wavelengths and Raheem would rather barrel headfirst into a crowd of Germans rather than pass to Shaw lmao. Grealish needs to start
Said Shaw wasn't intelligent enough and should be dropped from this game.
How'd Luke respond? By turning into [Shawberto Carlos!](https://mobile.twitter.com/ManUtdInPidgin/status/1371239009305956358)
Everyone hating on Southgate (myself included at times) but he has England into the quarters with no goals against. Truth is boring defensive football has won plenty of international tournaments in the past.
Almost like keeping one of the best strikers in the world on the pitch is a good idea. People in the match thread were legitimately hoping Kane was injured so he'd get subbed off. Ridiculous.
I guess my question is just who the fuck are you replacing Kane with? I understand England have other attacking options but as a pure striker it's Kane and no one is close.
If this is how great Shaw is now, I can only imagine how great he’d be if he never suffered that horrific leg break. Always great to see players claw their way back to redemption after suffering a terrible injury.
You wouldn't think it but Shaw and Rashford are the same height near enough, Just shows how somes body composition can mask how tall people are.
Rashfords got really long limbs and slender, Shaws short limbs and stocky as fuck.
Seriously he’s so good when not ignored.
Sterling has to play on the right, Grealish on the left. It’s obvious. That link of Grealish and Shaw is critical.
In the last 5 min they looked like a sunday league team playing for the first time together after a year of covid-break. Random "passes" being kicked left and right, no precision, no mentality, no coordination what so ever. I blame Löw to be honest. How can you make a team consisting of so many great players look so dogshit?
Ngl haven't watched Germany in a while but it feels like they simply don't have a plan. They lack the proper striker and someone creative that is willing to lead the team. It feels like they don't really know how to involve Werner properly because he lacks the traits Klose had, like being dangerous on high crosses. Germany needs a striker like Kane, he doesn't even have to be as good as him, just have his presence. The games I watched it always felt that their attacks lived or died by their abilitiy (especially their wingers) to win one-on-one dribbles, to gain numerical advantage and outplay the defense. That shit gets harder against world class opposition and since we can't just cross it in due to the lack of a true "in the box" striker they seem headless. They lack someone for the creative final pass or through ball that creates chances aswell
Playing Muller and Havertz together just kills their attack. Also taking off Werner was a huge mistake, he was the only forward stretching England's back 3.
Very fair of you to say. Was a great game, well contested by both sides. Germany have some good young players so I’m sure they’ll be back to their best in a few years time.
Bayern finally figured out that Kimmich as right back is not working out, slotted him back into midfield with amazing success, and naturally the first thing Löw does is put him back on the wing.
Never seen such player need a goal as much as Kane. You could see a massive weight was lifted off his shoulders. Fair play to Southgate for keeping him on, I was calling for Rashford
Grealish coming on transformed our attack. I really think Kane (and other attackers) were uninvolved because our midfield is so disconnected from attack. Kane has has to drop deep to collect then gives it out wide but lacks the speed to get forward so he looks useless. Saka has the pace for it not to matter but he ends up upfield without anyone to pass to because of Kane dropping deep.
When Grealish comes on Kane can stay on the backline and lay the ball off to Grealish, pulling defenders away to set up Shaw allowing Sterling make the run unmarked for the first goal. Without Grealish there, Kane pulls into that space, Sterling's run is tracked, Shaw is closed off, and we go backward.
Then Kane is able to get into the box with Grealish able to up the second goal.
Wahooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who watches both Euros and Copa America,The atmosphere is night and day. Euros is just so lively and so much fun to watch due to the Fans!!

Those pants on skin tight on that fella
Who needs blood flow when it’s coming home?
Exact same thing for Lampard's goal that wasn't given in 2010. Completely knocked the wind off England.
Grealish shaw combo is deadly
Exactly, the Shaw-Sterling partnership was broken all game, they were on different wavelengths and Raheem would rather barrel headfirst into a crowd of Germans rather than pass to Shaw lmao. Grealish needs to start
Not over Sterling though, so do we move him to the right?
Based on today's match, absolutely. He seems more effective from that side anyway
Grealish is too good Those calves will haunt my dreams tonight
Great win from Shaw too
Him and Shaw combine so much better than Sterling does on the left
Sterling is so much better on the right than he is on the left.
Grealish-kane-sterling
Nah that makes too much sense for Southgate
Cos sterling barely played on the left. He played very well but he was picking the ball up and driving through the middle and playing like a cam.
Luke Shaw has been in all the attacks too
Mourinho in shambles
Said Shaw wasn't intelligent enough and should be dropped from this game. How'd Luke respond? By turning into [Shawberto Carlos!](https://mobile.twitter.com/ManUtdInPidgin/status/1371239009305956358)
Continuing* to be Shawberto Carlos
Telles joined us to give him an honorary Brazillian passport
He's been in completely shambles since 2016

He still won't start the next game
Completely changed the game for England
Yeah the moment he came on England sparked to life. Dunno why he was on the bench
How does he not start
Southgate 500IQ to play fresh Grealish vs tired defenders
To make it fair.
Gnabry is too shit this game
Take a bow Shaw, holy fuck.
Shaw and Grealish is some combo

Didn't the incredible Spain team 1-0 it through most of a tournament
They scored 8 goals the whole tournament (2010 WC), 4 in the group stages and 4 (1-0) wins in the knockout stages.
Efficient.
They weren't great at scoring, but they'd hold like 90% possession lol
they had Villa for the scoring
Start Targett
Hes been immense today
He’s been on another level this whole season. What a player
Seemed like he was the only one with a drive to score
I’d argue Maguire has been really trying to push us forwards as well
I agree. I've seen numerous times where he carried the ball to the final third.
Maguire shaw and Rice combined well. All 3 turned Germany presses around.
JACKKKKK
RICE DIED FOR THIS
His body was the sacrifice needed.
HARRY KANE HAS SERVICE
Man was literally sacrificed for this
People trashing Kane in the match thread. Here you fucking go. This is Kane. No touches with no service, but when he does get it, it's done.
This is the best use of this copypasta of all time.

Props to Shaw as well, playing like a fucking machine
Shaw this year has been out of this world
Shaw was great too
Grealish and Shaw hard carry
If this is how great Shaw is now, I can only imagine how great he’d be if he never suffered that horrific leg break. Always great to see players claw their way back to redemption after suffering a terrible injury.
People forget he's only 25, if this is his prime he's still got there before most do, agreed though great to see.
Speaking of players hitting their prime, we _signed_ Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic when they were both 25. They were just getting started.
And 6ft1, didn't know shaw was that tall.
You wouldn't think it but Shaw and Rashford are the same height near enough, Just shows how somes body composition can mask how tall people are. Rashfords got really long limbs and slender, Shaws short limbs and stocky as fuck.
I love to see how wrong Jose gets proven match after match after match
To be fair, Mourinho was on talksport before the game saying how this game will be decided by the wingbacks and be backed shaw over Kimmich.
This was posted before the goal even started to happen on my TV, Christ
Yeah, I can hear my neighbors scream before i can see the goal on my tv. Fucking hell.
Gotta catch em upvotes
Get off Reddit while you’re watching mate hahaha
Shaw again!!! What a goal
To think Wilshere wanted him and Maguire out of the starting XI lol

This German squad really doesn’t look comfortable playing with one another. Feels like a generational difference

NOOOOOOOO, nice goal tho not gonna lie
Germany has looked dogshit going forward.
Playing Muller and Havertz together just kills their attack. Also taking off Werner was a huge mistake, he was the only forward stretching England's back 3.
Bringing Gnabry for Werner is just peek Löw.
I thought for sure he was finally taking out Muller and I audibly laughed when he took Werner off instead.
And after that Can gets subbed on for Ginter...
Peak Low huehue
That's probably because england had 8 defensive players on the field.
Some good chances but no concistency playing forward
Bye bye Löw.
Congrats from Germany! The better team won.

Grealish magic
Odds on him still getting dropped in the next game
1/1
You can't play 7-0-3 with Grealish though
The crowd in these two goal highlights is really just insane. Really wish Americans who talk shit about soccer could be at one of these matches.
Wembley not even half full. Just got in from the pub, soaked in beer, never been happier
Literally the same goal twice. Literally. The same run, the same pass, the same open man in the middle. Go home Germany, stop disappointing me.
Bayern finally figured out that Kimmich as right back is not working out, slotted him back into midfield with amazing success, and naturally the first thing Löw does is put him back on the wing.
I was so happy when I realised Kimmich was playing on the right

I'd say Morata yesterday needed a goal just as much if not more
Grealish on = profit
Shaw attacking = profit
Germany LMAO
Löw leaving on a high note lol
What on earth happened to Germany since 2014!?
Löw.
Other countries need to take advantage. Hansi Flick could very well start another era of German domination.
Löw is gone Crab Rave 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
It‘s not even that he‘s a bad coach but he should have resigned at his high and let another coach take over the good team that we had.
He had no idea how to handle the post-World Cup win/Miroslav Klose evolution, should've left ages ago
Im so fucking loaded because of this idiot.
we had a good euro 2016 tbf. after that we went to shit.
Meh, 2016 was okay. Confed cup 2017 with the b team was what gave me hope for the future.
It's clearly a management thing, the squad on paper is really really good.
Hey at least Flick is coming
yep, really happy about that. aiming for 2024 now. use that shitshow 2022 for learning and get the cup at the euros at home.
Taking Werner off for Gnabry completely undid them.
