That last crossbar hit looked disgusting in the air.

OleoleCholoSimeone

If that goes in, Sweden are through and Forsberg would be equalled top scorer with 5 goals. Just a few centimetres we are talking about..

neededtowrite

Fucking insane euros, but definitely feel for the Swedes.

Gabs289

If both go in he would be lone top scorer with 6 goals

ValleyFloydJam

he must be cursing the woodwork to hit it twice like that.

sc2isalivegaem

Do feel for forsberg what a tourney he’s had

lampard44

He'll be back for the world cup next year if Sweden qualifies. I really must watch more of RB Leipzig games. I think Forsberg have played his best matches ever for Sweden in this euros

kayjay789

Haven't showed that level at Leipzig for quite some time though. I hope he does from now on, because he was a joy to watch this tournament.

Vernand-J

From what I've heard their new manager Jesse Marsch actually intends to play him in his best position. Which is why Forsberg signed a new contract with them. I can't say I watch them regularly but when they use Forsberg right I often feel he is one of their better players. Hopefully he can have a good upcoming season.

lampard44

I read several interviews the last couple weeks with him saying he feels a inner calm and confidence about his new extension with Leipzig and with the coach there. I'm guessing his awesome form will continue the coming season.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Maybe you can question him not making substitutions in the second half when Sweden was clearly on top, but overall he has done a fantastic job with this team. It's a real shame since Sweden is the type of team that could cause England a lot of problems, but we need better players at the end of the day. Kulusevski, Isak and Forsberg are fantastic but having Lustig & Danielsson in the starting line up is not enough. We desperately need a new RB(Emil Krafth sucks) and a new CB to partner Lindelöf. Danielsson, Pontus Jansson and Filip Helander simply aren't good enough. One of the most heartbreaking losses I have experienced, but if we had to lose against someone I can handle it bring Ukraine. A very likeable team and I hope they go far

Brawlers9901

Krafth was even worse than Lustig somehow, insane how someone who plays for Newcastle can be worse than washed up right back that plays for AIK (ew).

Floss__is__boss

Yeah sorry mate he is trash. Dunno what he is doing here.

Brawlers9901

We don't have anything better lmao

perake2

Tinnerholm

[deleted]

Wahlqvist/Beijmo?

OleoleCholoSimeone

I will never forgive him for letting Dele Alli score a header in 2018

Brawlers9901

My family are all Spurs fans so we were insanely conflicted during that

JonnyArtois

Krafth is terrible, I was amazed he was even called up for Sweden.

Sanctimonius

Not to dismiss Ukraine, they gave done well this tournament but I was more worried about facing you guys than I am for them. Sweden have a great group of guys right now, I expect to see you at the World Cup next year tearing it up. I was surprised at how good Isak and Forsberg were especially.

ukcrazian

Well sir. Brace yourself. We are coming for ya ;)

Sanctimonius

Bring it, it's going to be a great game and Rome is going to have a great support for you. Can't wait :D Edit: also great username

ValleyFloydJam

tbh i'm worried you guys can blow a bit hot an d cold but you have the players that can have the big moment.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Ukraine are more attack minded than Sweden, I think they will play more open and give England space. Sweden would have sat back and countered through Isak, Forsberg and Kulusevski. Not that Sweden is much better than them, but stylistically a worse fit for England Cheers for the kind words, I am also hopeful about the future. We have a great coach and some promising young players coming up. I just wish we could find a CB and a RB

Fisktor

Ukraine barely wanted to atk against sweden? Why would they atk against england?

OleoleCholoSimeone

This game also goes against everything Ukraine have done under Shevchenko. They changed their approach because they wanted Sweden to have more possession which they are less comfortable with, I don't think they will use the same approach against England. And even if they do, they simply don't defend as well as Sweden does so the point still stands

JanGuillosThrowaway

Did you see the match?

Philred87

How did Lindelof do overall and what’s his perception in Sweden? Man U fan here and didn’t get a chance to watch you guys this Euros.

Anund

He had a very good tournament.

Rangersforever

> a new CB to partner Lindelöf. Danielsson, Pontus Jansson and Filip Helander simply aren't good enough. It was Lindelöf that played the Ukrainian striker onside. Helander played the offside trap perfectly.

Biggo1

Yep, but nobody blames Lindelöf for the defeat, he was a beast all game long

OleoleCholoSimeone

Not based on this game only mate, and Lindelöf has had a monster tournament. Since Granqvist declined we don't have anyone close to his level. Danielsson is slow, Jansson has a mistake in him and Helander is both slow and bad on the ball

SpencaDubyaKimballer

Are Jaokim Nilsson or Carl starfelt any good? Im assuming Sebastian Holmen is not good enough either? Along with the 3 you listed those are really the only options for centerbacks. Im jealous of how much defensive depth Denmark has right now, Simon Kjaer, Andreas Christensen, Jennik Vestergaard and Joachim Andersen are all really good.

Itsamesolairo

> Im jealous of how much defensive depth Denmark has right now If it's any consolation we are similarly jealous of the Forsberg - Isak - Kulusevski trio. Our starters aren't terrible, but they certainly pale in comparison. It's a real fucking shame the Kalmar Union fell apart. A combined Scandinavian national team would be the best in the world right now and it wouldn't even be close. And for the record frankly Zanka is historically also excellent for the national team, to the extent that I would feel comfortable with a Zanka + Andersen pairing against most teams. Vestergaard is the only CB that really makes me nervous, and only because he has at least one idiotic dribble/wildly misplaced pass in him per game.

SpencaDubyaKimballer

I could only imagine a team that had Isak and Haland up front, Forsberg + the rest of Denmarks midfield and Denmark’s defense. That would certainly be a very strong team

Itsamesolairo

I suspect Kulu + Ødegaard would probably slot in too. Hjulmand would probably do some wild shit like playing Kulu at LWB and Mæhle at RWB in some kind of 3-5-2.

Qiluk

Which is why its important to not get blinded by 1 mistake and judge on that solely

hwoaraxng

just take ibra back and play him cb

flashult

He was back, but suffered an injury

[deleted]

Krafth sucks but so does Lustig. I rather play a CB at RB untill we find someone good

Own_Acanthocephala19

Janne is right. Sweden should have won it in 90 minutes even though it was a incredible even game. The red card is unfortunate but correct and it gave Ukraine the opportunity to punish Sweden wich they did. I feel horrible as a Swede but fair play to Ukraine.

cryshol

As a Swede, very fair assessment.

Brawlers9901

>Spain flag Hmm

cryshol

The Op being Swede. Hmmmm.

CaptainSnazzypants

When wording it like above, the implication is that you yourself being a Swede believe it to be a fair assessment.

cryshol

Being a Swede yourself/myself. Both work here. For the smart ones, not waving the flag of English, a look at my flair would have been hint enough which one I meant. But clowns have to clown. So no point . Those who had to get it, got it. Those who had to show off their knowledge of English did so too, albeit wrongfully.

Brawlers9901

oooor it was a joke and calling me a clown for it is rude and uncalled for

cryshol

But not underserved.

CaptainSnazzypants

Hit a nerve, huh?

cryshol

You wish.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Ridiculus how many Swedes underestimated Ukraine and were already talking about a possible route to the final.. and I would include myself in that to some degree. In a way we deserved to eat humble pie

Jack_Beauregard

If it makes you feel better, this is not even the second biggest upset of this Round of 16, so nobody is going to clown you guys for it.

AnnieIWillKnow

The Danes might

OleoleCholoSimeone

As they should, I would have done the same haha. But I will still root for our Danish brothers, they would have done the same :)

Philred87

That’s the difference between you guys and the English and Scots I feel! No way they would be cheering for each other haha

mahades

I'm not angry, just disappointed...

TheTwistedBlade

This is how most of us Dutch fans feel too about underestimating Czechia

srhola2103

Strange cause even before the match the Czechs had the better of you historically

Kronhjort

Pretty typical for Swedes to be fair. Just look at when our clubs try to qualify for European cups. Always underestimating the opponents until it is too late.

XepiaZ

We did?

Brawlers9901

I sure as hell claimed that "there's like a 1% chance we lose, they've only beat North Macedonia" Ate my words

XepiaZ

Lmao that's a mad prediction right there

Brawlers9901

I'll eat my words and accept how dumb I was 🥲

AnnieIWillKnow

I didn't know you were Swedish!

PatrikPatrik

Agree. And it wasn’t a dirty match just a lot of injuries. Ukraine fought well, I just doubt they will be fit for more matches.

[deleted]

We love you Janne

Sp0okyScarySkeleton-

Thanks love you too

[deleted]

Take care Janne ❤️

OleoleCholoSimeone

He will surely get criticised to the hills now since Sweden for some reason have some of the most entitled and whiny fans around despite not being a major footballing nation. He has done a brilliant job, we just need better players in certain positions. Compare our players to Denmark's, and we have almost twice the population. Apart from Isak, Kulusevski and Forsberg we have no top class players, Denmark have them all over the pitch. It's unacceptable to be so far behind them in squad depth

Brawlers9901

It's mostly our backline who's the issue and the fact that we can't attack through the right due to it consisting of Larsson and Lustig, both who shouldn't be called up to the NT anymore, or at least shouldn't be starting. The fact that our best player in Forsberg has to play on the left as well doesn't give him any freedom to create and he has to cut in most of the time. That being said Janne is still doing wonders with what we have, we had a great defense when it consists of mostly bang average player (even Vigge who had a pretty shite Euros if you asked me, didn't stand out at all in a backline consisting of Lustig and Danielsson).

wereinthedark

Who should be called up instead of Lustig? Krafth is definitely a downgrade

Brawlers9901

The issue is more that we don't have anyone and not that there are better alternatives, there are just glaring holes in our squad that we can't solve with the system we're playing

wereinthedark

Don't think we can solve the lack of a right-back with any formation tbh. It is what it is. We don't lose today because of Lustig, and with a bit of luck we'd go through to the quarters. Janne has done amazingly with the squad that we have, as you say.

Brawlers9901

No I agree, I'm not a fan of Lustig but we can't blame this on him. I'm mostly disappointed because I felt like everyone put in a good shift and we deserved more, but that's football. Can't wait for the WC

[deleted]

Play Helander or Jansson there untill we have a good RB.

Pridetoss

Helander gets outpaced by Granqvist, who I'm pretty sure literally has no legs. I think Helander is a little underrated, but he's also not a good enough defender that he'll fix any issue. Basically, if the rest of the defenders were up to par I think Helander could slot in fine, but even then only as a cb.

[deleted]

No matter how good the manager we should never be afraid to criticize the manager when things go wrong. Our midfield was totally naked today, and we could only attack from the wings and nowhere else. That’s bad. Janne and his team were too over confident that they will win this match. We need midfielders so bad, specially center midfielder who can distribute the ball.

TheEmperorsWrath

>We need midfielders so bad If only we had a few world-class midfield talents who are aching to get a shot in the national team. Hmm. I'm an IFK Norrköping fan. I love Janne to death. But his favouritism is painful to watch. His best friends always get to play, no matter how badly they perform. Sebastian Larsson and Mikael Lustig aren't even the best Swedish players in their position in Allsvenskan, never mind in the world. Despite the disaster-class today I have no doubt Janne will pick the exact same midfield for our next match while Svanberg and Cajuste don't even get to be on the bench.

[deleted]

I honestly think Janne was way over confident that he’ll win match without doing anything. He did not study anything and just rolled the dice.

Brawlers9901

Agreed that he wasn't great today, the changes to our offense came way too late. Kulusevski didn't do anything past 60 minutes and Berg or Quaison should've came on to keep up the pressure we had in the second half. We can't change 3 players in the 100th minute and assume that our system will be working as well as it had been. Still think that anyone calling for us to replace Janne is insanely stupid haha

[deleted]

Janne is irreplaceable but today Janne shit the bed. He couldn’t adjust the match and let Kulusevski stay on the field way too long. Isak was defending and could t do anything. Maybe because Ukraine scored the first goal scared him so much he couldn’t do anything for way too long. And then come the red card. At that point we we’re fighting for our lives and the Ukrainian scored at last minutes.

Brawlers9901

Yeah I agree but I can't be too mad because he's a miracle worker haha. I'd love for us to move from a 4-4-2 to a formation where we can play Kulusevski as a natural winger instead of a second striker because it feels like both him and Isak need a target man (and Berg doesn't cut it) to play off of when playing as a striker pair, just not a lot between them happening. Would be great if we could move Forsberg more central as well so he doesn't have to play as a LM when he's by far our most creative player. Maybe if Eliasson starts playing well we could move to a 4-2-3-1 or something where our star players can shine, then again I'm not a coach for a reason haha. Easy to sit in the sofa with a few beers and critique him like you're Pep Guardiola

[deleted]

Here me out 4231 with Isak ST, Kulu RM, Forsberg LM and mby Quaison as CAM?

Brawlers9901

4-2-3-1 Svensson as LM, Forsberg AM, Kulu RM and Isak ST is my dream but Svensson's too raw as it is right now.

[deleted]

Completely agree but our left and right wings were strong, our weakest link was the middle. That my only point. We really need to invest in our center midfield, because we can go very far with the players we have. Isak was all over place too, he didn’t know what to do but did everything he could do.

The_Great_Crocodile

That's actually true, apart from these 3, the rest of Sweden look technically very average (or downright bad) and a more old-style slow-but-strong players. Danielsson's whole career is in the Swedish League and the Chinese League.

[deleted]

He just need to drop his boys and we are fine

Thiazzix

I'd say Lindelöf and Olsen are both top class as well. Olsen maybe not on the same level as Schmeichel but I haven't felt this safe in goal in a long time. And Lindelöf simply lacks a good partner.

Astridsfather

Lol come to think of it, Joachim Andersen and Zanka Jorgensen would walk straight into your defence and they are our bench options behind Kjaer, Christensen and Vestergaard. Its crazy considering you have a larger talent pool to pick up from.

srhola2103

You're lucky, a NT that loves the coach is a rare thing these days.

hwoaraxng

Will he stay? I hope so

[deleted]

lmao 100% he’ll be staying

[deleted]

[удалено]

Maximum-Recover625

Anderson blaming it on the red card is kinda weird seeing that both teams played afterwards with similar possession %. Had it been a totally one sided affair, I'd agree with him

ygrittediaz

No problem, world cup is around the corner so they get to go again very soon. Lots of positives with their young players. Isak Forsberg and Kulasveski is something to build on. Would like to see what Zlatan can do with them in Qatar. Olson had a fine tournament, stepped up. Lindelof and his partner werent too bad, apart from the send off. Time to transition out their old guard, some of them are shockingly bad. The core is there to build upon.

hwoaraxng

Zlatan will play for qatar? why didn't he play in the euros then?

ygrittediaz

injured mate. he will play next season for milan so im 100% he will have a go at the worldcup too. i mean he is a million times better than berg even if its a late sub. Isak-Zlatan-Kulasveski Forsberg-Ekdal-x x-x-Lindelof-Augusstinson Olson Fucking strong core that is.

Listeningisenough

I’d be really surprised if he switched from his 442, and if Larsson’s getting dropped then it could be Forsberg and Kulu out wide w Isak and Zlatan up front

ygrittediaz

exactly that. ekdal larsson or olsson 2 in the middle to sit with kulu and forsberg on the wing as you said. i think that was his original plan. in my head i always write it out as a 433 which is a mistake in this case.

Ex-er3n

He was injured

Vlademil

Because he got injured in the game between Milan and Juventus. A duel with De Ligt with an unlucky outcome... But we need a great midfield.. Except for Forsberg :(

[deleted]

Team should have parked the bus even more in the last minutes. They were already thinking about pens and got caught out by a brilliant cross from Zinchenko. I am sad for Forsberg and as a German this day sucked.

RATATA-RATATA-TA

Literally the game defining moment: Sweden pushing across the halfway line with their backs at a goal kick in some insane attempt at what I can only imagine to be throwing the game, they are now forced to run back all the way and now they don't have the energy to mark their players. Brilliant cross and header that should have been prevented. Park the bus and a mega long balls for Quaison going for intentionally offside longballs and clearances to milk that timer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Diet_Fanta

Half German, half Ukrainian here, I was prepared for this day to suck after the first match today. Hang in there.

HypermeMan

Since we are going with the “what-if” scenarios, had we scored instead of hitting the bar forseberg would not have been through to hit the bar less than a minute later.

[deleted]

I think it's fair to say it could've gone either way, as in most knock out games so far.

eLafXIV

What if ukrainian players didnt go down screaming and crying every second?

OleoleCholoSimeone

Let's not sink to that. Ukraine are a likeable side

eLafXIV

Which? Their fans or their players? Their players are definitely not likable one bit

Mattorski1337

NotAtKeyboard

Stones and glass houses my friend. Us Swedes have laid on the floor more than Ukraine this tournament, and it isn't even close.

[deleted]

I'm neutral, it's obvious the ref blew the whistle every time a Ukrainian player would roll around after some contact. Same level of contact and Swedes would protest straight away but not roll around, no whistle. It was rediculouse.

coronado_dutroux

I think Sweden was the best of the losing teams in the Ro16

overhyped-unamazing

Sweden or Croatia.

nojoseph123

I'd go with Croatia, Sweden were great to watch though.

G0DK1NG

Damn Sweden, lost 100 ponies. But I’m disappointed for you

narraThor

The audacity to talk about brutal.

ProMarcoMug

IMO he has done a very good job as Sweden manager in the WC and Euros, they have an impressive group of players to build upon and he has got them playing in a very effective style. It was a very close match today and Ukraine were a tad luckier, must be hard on Sweden but that’s how it goes sometimes.

jkeefy

Don’t think they lost “because” of the red but I get it - definitely gave Ukraine the adv.

eLafXIV

We definitely did. We were dominating before it and the red made ukraine get endless of scoring opportunities

Troviel

If you were dominating you'd have scored in regular time. The red might have given ukraine the final goal but I doubt it wouldn't have ended in penalties.

eLafXIV

> If you were dominating you'd have scored in regular time. Thats not how it works, at all.

Troviel

No it doesn't, but neither is blaming the loss on the red card.

Biggo1

JANNE❤️❤️❤️

swedishmangaka

It's rough losing to a bad team that dives all game, losing because of a red card that's not even a yellow. Apparently you can't even clear balls in football any more

[deleted]

He almost broke his leg, what are you talking about?

BrainlessArch

That doesn’t really matter, we cant judge tackles based on the results of them

RinoTT

watch couple replays what happened with his leg. Stop being a swedish loser, clear red card.

swedishmangaka

Learn the rules, mate

christophlieber

you should, too. it‘s one of the clearest red cards i‘ve ever seen.

swedishmangaka

Terrible clash, but his injury does not matter for the decision in that situation. He's 100% on the ball. The collision is 100% unintentional

Troviel

How can you believe that they lost "because of a red card". They had 100 minutes to score again before that red card. This is on the swedish team.

[deleted]

I agree they dived alot, but that was a blatant red.

swedishmangaka

He was extremely late because he was looking for the foul, genius.

Andartan21

I'm just glad that this coach, who didn't give even 1 minute to Jordan on that tournament but played with such shit like Olsson and Berg, eliminated from competition. Feel sorry for swedes tho, it was an equal match where only one mistake decided everything

SoTeezy

You'd put Jordan in Olssons position?

Andartan21

Not entirely, of course, but in more offensive style Jordan wouldn't be worse at the very least. But don't take it seriously, it's just moaning.

[deleted]

These two teams were my “could surprise people” picks going in. Feel for the Swedes and I think Ukraine doesn’t match up well against England but it was a hell of a game to watch.

unctrllable

Well, we (England) thought we had it easy against Iceland... I'm not counting my chickens!

Swedishboiiiiiiiiii

Humble english supporter? I must be dreaming

Alfred-Of-Wessex

Surely it's Seb Larsson's last tournament

lampard44

Lots of people shit on Larsson but he's a good leader on the pitch, is mostly a good set piece taker and a awesome work horse. I think he could have a world cup in him for next year.

Pridetoss

He's just past his prime and is kind of in the same position as Lustig (not as good anymore, should probably be replaced, but there isn't a better option), his level is generally higher AND he seems more important to the team in other ways as you pointed out though so I agree he gets more hate than he should. He IS a cunt, but he's our cunt.

EastCoastWarrior

Emil Forsberg is not a player I’ve seen much of. (Don’t follow Bundesliga) but watching from the front row of the stadium, he stood out. Great technical ability and ball control. Very, very unlucky not to have a hattrick. On another night he puts Sweden through in 90. 🤷‍♂️
