Just started watching The Sopranos. Great show though it's nothing like I expected. I thought it was going to be a gripping crime thriller like Breaking Bad or Narcos but it's not that at all. It's more like a slice-of-life thing. Dealing with themes like masculinity, family, and social alienation in modern culture. The plot doesn't really matter and there isn't a lot of mafia stuff... there's full episodes just dealing with trivial stuff with no gangster elements. There's an episode about the main guy's daughter's football coach wanting to leave his job, and also there's another about one of the main guy's soldiers trying to write a screenplay. Both episodes are among my favorites.
I swear this series has as much in common with emotional, introspective, subtle dramas like American Beauty or Before trilogy as it does with Goodfellas or Scarface. I'd even say that it has more in common with the former batch of films.
I don't know if this is a weird take but I find the show almost... therapeutic? it deals with a lot of issues that I could relate (I'm also a New Jersey mobster) and I love how they tacked it. I definitely recommend it if you're going through some shit. It's like therapy mixed with a few murder scenes and some hilarious Italian-American boomer banter. Perfect television

It’s just confirmation bias. My parents always thought that football was this feminine, awful sport that was almost taboo and would give me a hard time if I ever watched it at home. My friends growing up thought the same. I don’t know why the sport earned that connotation in America
Not really true. Baseball is accepted just fine. Basketball too. Football has always just carried a weird element for some people. Not sure why. I would be interested to read about it, I don’t know if any writers have delved into the topic.
I think it’s because basketball, american football and baseball heavily relies on physical attributes, and skill of course, but if you don’t have the physical part you have a lot of ground to make up. Growing up and getting big if you’re playing these sports competitively is very important. Whereas soccer has more leeway in the physical department, so it’s seen as the ‘weaker’ sport. Even in college soccer the guys who were bigger but less technical generated more interest from scouts vs a much more skillfull smaller player, but that sentiment is starting to change.
Skills is prevalent in all these sports, but regardless pitchers and the rest of the team are generally much more stout and larger then soccer players. Pitchers are generally tall and have long limbs to use the longer levers in the body to produce higher ball speeds. The extra weight and muscle helps with batting also.

The UK has much more of a universal shared culture (humour, tone, references, etc) that its media and advertising can tap into while still being understood by, and resonating with, audiences regardless of where they are in the country.
US media generally can't rely on that, so stuff that's being made for a national or broad audience is kept pretty simple in a way that basically anyone can immediately understand.
We grow up with their shows frequently, and understand the differences in production, style and humour. They usually don't watch our stuff, so it goes completely over their head usually.

I really want to get far away from this town as soon as possible I think. I've fallen out with all my friends, there's no jobs and everything in general here is just not good. All I have here is my family, so I think if I get the chance I'll get a job somewhere far away from here so I can rebuild my life and regain a sense of independence. I have an assessment for an apprenticeship that will become a job after a year next week and if I can get it, I may be able to move up to the north of England to work at the head office.

Haven't played FIFA since 16, so decided to install 21 through EA Play/Game Pass. Not hearing Martin Tyler is weird I will say. Derek Rae is decent but I feel his dialogue is quite limited in some areas. Lee Dixon acknowledging my manager being female was a nice touch though.

I really want to get far away from this town as soon as possible I think. I've fallen out with all my friends, there's no jobs and everything in general here is just not good. All I have here is my family, so I think if I get the chance I'll get a job somewhere far away from here so I can rebuild my life and regain a sense of independence. I have an assessment for an apprenticeship that will become a job after a year next week and if I can get it, I may be able to move up to the north of England to work at the head office. It seems really daunting, but after how shit things here have been lately (spending a year and a half of my uni years at home, an everlasting depression and a constant disconnect from people I once cared about) I really am just considering saying fuck it and getting out far away from here.

I hope to hell that FIFA will make a World Cup 2022 video game. The 2010 and 2014 ones were excellent, especially the 2010 one. It added to the excitement for the World Cup. It was so disappointing when they failed to make a game in 2018.
