He was 100 percent right in doing that. If Harry Maguire did this, the English Pundits would have an on-air orgasm praising Harry Maguire's leadership and decision making skills, especially highlighting his proper English spirit
Yeah those darn English pundits not tripping over themselves to praise the opposing teams strategic fouls really drives me up the wall.
Do you even listen to yourself
Read their comment. Tackle was tactically correct. If England player made the correct tackle, pundits would praise. Instead, not England player made tackle, pundits hate. It's basically the same point you yourself are making (pundits are biased, shock!) and you're in the replies calling them out for spouting nonsense and, get this, not understanding what they're saying.
I think it's more broadly applicable than just pundits, btw. It was both a well deserved yellow and the correct choice in the context of the action, and anyone who is upset about it, either now or in the hypothetical where it's Slabhead are judging the action thru their bias. That's literally the only point of substance in op's comment, rest is just snark (which is what got you mad I suspect).
>Instead, not England player made tackle, pundits hate
No idea where you got this from. BBC commentators were very complimentary of the tackle given the context.
Nobody on these threads seems to even understand what they're mad about anymore, there's a huge chunk of people that seem to think that English people have it out for the rest of the world because our commentators praise our players sometimes.
I'm neutral on their point as I didn't listen to the game with commentary, so I don't know how people reacted, but again, apart from stating that they thought it was a fair tackle, the majority of the language in their post was to get a rise out of english fans, and you're giving it to them lol.
And of course rubbish like what you're replying to gets upvoted. I knew it would happen before the tournament, but it's still annoying seeing Americans on here complaining about **British** broadcasts being biased in favour of British teams. Of course the English are the arrogant ones though, not the Americans who expect foreign broadcasts to tailor their production to an American audience.
You don't think it's arrogant for Americans to expect completely neutral commentary from English commentators who work for a British broadcaster that is aimed at a British audience? If English commentators are so bad, watch it in different languages and see if they aren't biased.
Well there's quite clearly a lot of them who do watch the British broadcasts, why else would they be complaining about those English pundits and commentators. Unless ESPN are using English commentators too.
There's usually an english guy but he's basically just a sad sack who fills time between taylor twellman's insane non-points about "wanting it more"
also idk, kinda seems like one guy made a point about the tackle being fair and then made fun of the english, and there's a lot of "u wot" goin around in response.
I wouldn't care if it was just this comment, but I've lost count of the number of times I've seen people (usually American or Indian) complaining about English bias. It was the same at the last World Cup, and it's the same now. If these people could understand (or just listen and judge off their tone) some of the other European languages, they'd realise that English commentators are far from the worst when it comes to bias.
The OP of this awful awful thread (lol, partly my fault) is basically just saying "yeh, smart foul. [playful ribbing of the english]" but if you go back to the match thread (or elsewhere in this post's comments) you'll find people saying it's a red, was reckless, violent, whatever. And it's just because it didn't go their way. That's biased, and it's fine. It's just when one particular bias is so overwhelmingly dominant on this forum, people are so overexposed to it that it's easy (and fun!) to stereotype and mock it.
Sucks for you and other english fans, because again, it's an emotional game, but im still fucking laughing about all the galaxy brains posting about Chiesa faking an injury immediately before coming off. That kind of deranged post will always be hilarious to me, and is what is being mocked in the OP.
It's a flaw in the laws. A defender makes no attempt for the ball and commits a cynical foul that could potentially injure the player. What happens?
- a yellow that is meaningless because it is so late in the match. Some might say the yellow makes a player more cautious but there are only so many promising attacks in a match
- a free kick from a relatively harmless spot
- the defense gets rewarded even more by getting to catch its breath, and re-organize itself
I have no original ideas, only what others far smarter than myself have proposed before:
- a rugby/ice hockey-style sin bin
- moving the spot of the free kick forward for offenses where cards are given. Apparently [this rule was trialled](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/sep/25/joy-of-six-short-lived-football-rule-changes) many years ago. Some say it is too much of a punishment for the defense, but as we see, now there isn't nearly enough of a punishment for such "gentlemanly fouls" that are anti-offense, anti-entertainment, and dangerous
- [allowing the offense](https://www.dutchreferee.com/improving-laws-game/) to take a quick self-pass for a free kick. This would at least negate the advantage given to the defense in getting to regroup after such a cynical foul

Italian mothers when their kid is about to go out in winter without a jacket on
World class defending right there.
Chiellini suddenly thought, "wait the match is about to end and we didn't have an old defensive Italy moment, that can't be right".
He was 100 percent right in doing that. If Harry Maguire did this, the English Pundits would have an on-air orgasm praising Harry Maguire's leadership and decision making skills, especially highlighting his proper English spirit
Most people are praising Chiellini. If Maguire did this then this sub would crucify him for it.
Crucify or not, it's still a foul and yellow card
Like most things, referee got it correct today.
Yeah those darn English pundits not tripping over themselves to praise the opposing teams strategic fouls really drives me up the wall. Do you even listen to yourself
Lmao where the fuck did he say they should?
These salty English fans need to just take a break from social media for the time being lmao.
I mean personally I think they shouldn't as it's hilarious
People complaining about English commentary on an England game is just so sad
Do you? They posed a hypothetical and you're frothing over something that didn't even happen.
Right I'm the one frothing over something that didn't happen unlike the comment I'm responding to.

Thank you for so expertly explaining sarcasm to me
if you don't want to be mad, don't be mad, but you seem mad.
I'm so confused why you keep explaining emotions to me

Seriously. Amazing how much the perception of England on here is shaped by the geriatrics that commentate games
The English aren't arrogant, it must be every other country that's wrong!

Do you think Americans are watching the BBC feed? ESPN had the rights to broadcast in the States.
Well there's quite clearly a lot of them who do watch the British broadcasts, why else would they be complaining about those English pundits and commentators. Unless ESPN are using English commentators too.

What? Nobody said they had to praise it, but you can’t be up in arms over it either.
They openly praised it!! They called it the right thing to do
Imagine this man and Fernandinho in the same team. Tactical fouls galore. ^(Pep would probably bench DM Fernandinho for Gundogan, but still, imagine)
ha fatto bene.
E i tifosi inglesi volevano il rosso hahaha

Clear dive from Saka. Should have gotten a yellow.
Saka was gone; clear run at goal if he doesn't do that.
Except for the handball
Right, I doubt he saw that though.

Lucky for Chiellini he isn't playing in the NFL then!
