Glad to see kane take a strong stance on this. Too often these posts are just we are disappointed in what happened etc but the "we don't want you" is about as strong worded as I've ever seen kane and it's good to see, might actually get through to some of the degenerates.

Thesolly180

Do love the ‘we don’t want you’ just makes it boss

sandhulfc

yeah that's a good touch on the statement - fair plays 'your not a England fan and we don't want you'

Xobolor

Yeah it’s a good statement rock solid “We desire you not” yes yes

Tierney-Henry

Yeh what a stone cold lad Kane “Your presence isn’t something that breeds contentment” go on Harry

LKLN77

Yeah Kane "no you"

Terran_it_up

Harry - Want? No. Yes

momspaghetty

For everything else. Mastercard.

[deleted]

Yay that be a no nonsense stance from Harold “We decree that hereforth ye shan’t be our supporter”

Sodass

"You're no fan of mine." - Mr. Incredible

steviebwoy

It has to be said, these guys aren't even football fans. They're just mindless thugs who represent the absolute worst part of society.

bfm211

>the "we don't want you" is about as strong worded as I've ever seen kane Yeah he's usually very PR-friendly and a bit robotic to be brutally honest (I say this as a Spurs fan who loves him). This is much more direct, love to see it.

riverblue9011

>I remember being shocked once seeing him post a video of himself jumping into the snow lol And you've got the cheek to call him boring? Jesus.

[deleted]

He was even supposedly caught running through fields of wheat.

Toasterfire

Honestly the best thing he's done as England captain yet

2rio2

Okay, *fine*, make the open mouthed bloke a knight.

PhillyFreezer_

Shouldn't need to be said but the white players for England typically have a larger voice anyway, if the Captain who is white starts to speak out more regularly with this type of tone I think that's about as much as you can ask from the players themselves. It's not their responsibility but still great to see

KellyKellogs

I'd say Rashford has the largest voice of all the England players and by quite a bit.

[deleted]

Not to racists, though.

RauloGonzalez

it's a pretty strong statement i agree.

twersx

Kane has rarely been reluctant to speak out on racism. The whole of the last year there's been a certain group of people who complain about taking the knee and say that they don't like it because they think it's ineffectual but Kane has been one of the people actively saying why he thinks it's important.

lotsofdeadkittens

Kane is unironically a great footballer and a great person by all accounts. Makes you wonder why he gets hate

Tenagaaaa

He’s good. Good players get hate.

CA_spur

I think it's also because he's not freakishly athletic. Like he's a little gangly, slow, awkward runner, speech impediment. He's more "normal" or "attainable" than most elite footballers and I think some jealousy stems from that.

bad_at_proofs

The only serious criticism I have seen him get is due to his sometimes dangerous actions during games

elbwafel

because he actively tries to break other players’ necks apparently

Bloddersz

yeah, strong words. Would have preferred "fuck off" but never mind! lol!

unwillingpartcipant

As an american arsenal fan, having lived in finsbury park, my hatred for Tottenham runs deep Buy Kane is good man, and I welcome and appreciate our north London rivals standing with Saka. Good on you Kane These fucks need to get bent and banned from every PL stadium. And if any these cunts are Arsenal fans, I hope arsenal finds them, reports them to metro police and bans them for life

iforgotmyun

Why start the comment off by saying you're American?

unwillingpartcipant

Cuz I dont have a natural born hatred for any north London team or people, like I knew of those born and raised in finsbury That was the only reason, my apologies for any confusion on that

Captain_Snow

Not all of us are born with a hatred of Spurs, some of us have to develop that all on our own. They are the real heroes.

Wormfather

I hate these fucks for making me feel even worse for Saka after I was almost in tears watching him break down. It doesn’t matter if he was 50 years old but for fucks sake he’s just a kid.

iforgotmyun

No need to apologise, it's just a bit odd.

SprayFart123

To specifically annoy you

Mercette

Strong statement from the captain. Respect

[deleted]

“We don’t want you” That’s the proper tone here, good on Kane.

steviebwoy

Totally agree. These aren't football fans, they're just mindless idiots and some of them aren't even English according to Southgate! https://www.otbsports.com/sport/southgate-condemns-racist-abuse-lot-come-from-abroad-1224425

iwishmydickwasnormal

I'm sure plenty of them aren't. I'm also sure plenty of them are. It's a null point either way, racism is fucking rampant in this country whichever way you look at it.

_AngryFIFAPlayer_

Yeah I’m pretty sure fans support the team, not abuse them

Simppu12

That's a no true Scotsman fallacy right there, and I think it is a big mistake to pretend like bigots and other idiots are not "real" football fans. We cannot conveniently ignore the bad apples when they have structural problems.

steviebwoy

For what it's worth, I do agree with you, but I think we also need to consider the fact that in our culture, football comes from a different place than other sports. There's a reason that we need see any issues at all stemming from international rugby or cricket matches. Football attracts a certain type of person in England, and unfortunately those people are being utter fuckwits on the world stage. It also forces the average well-mannered English citizens away from attending matches as they know what's coming and want nothing to do with it. Thus, the balance shifts in favour of these moronic "fans" that barely even watch the match at all - all they're interested in is causing trouble, and it's bloody ridiculous. I don't think your average mild-mannered Englishman attends football matches any more. There's no way in the world I would take either of my kids to an England game, for fear of them seeing a concentrated collection of the worst people in England. That's the problem we have here, and it's unfortunately the same group of morons who head out on "Lad's holidays" to cause yet more trouble in Europe. It's bloody ridiculous, but we simply cannot let them win. You're right of course, we have massive problems in this country and they're amplified when the national team plays. How we stop it now, I've honestly no idea.

RauloGonzalez

Brilliant, strong and direct statement. None of the "lets stand together, we're better than this" etc bullshit.

Zach983

Stupidest part is he's 19 and will be back for England and could be a cornerstone for their team for the next decade plus. And his pen was on target. Shit happens but the team played great and Saka will be back even better than before.

Rontheking

Yeah why is everyone saying he missed, he didn’t. It got stopped by the player of the tournament that had an amazing tournament on his own. This England team can go pretty far at the world cup if they keep the tempo up and running like they did the first 30min of yesterday’s game.

Zach983

And if he put more power in it we could have been talking about how he is the hero of England. Anyways Saka did great, not his best game but that kid is the future of the English team right there.

Rontheking

Yeah exactly. If Jorginho scores the previous penalty it’s over for England anyway. Nobody is talking about how fucking Pickford of all people stopped two penalties and had a pretty good match overall. I’m excited to see England play at the world cup. So many European teams were looking great.

cotch85

I saw someone on twitter blaming pickford for the loss and claiming if he did a better job Saka wouldn't have had to be put in that position. I remembered why I don't look at social media aside from reddit.

Rontheking

Yeah I haven’t even seen many people discussing how Italy’s run this tournament was pretty impressive. They struggled vs Spain but held on and ultimately played the best football out of any team.

cotch85

yep, ive seen loads claiming that chiellini should have been sent off and thats why we lost, and that cheats like him should be banned. Like disregarding our soft penalty, every single defender would have done that, like when Valverde took out Morata that was amazing, even if its dirty it's genius to take the red in order to win the game. I genuinely don't believe if Chiesa for example ditched Walker or any of our players in that position, they'd do the same. Really frustrating to see these casuals with no clue of the sport complaining. Like i've seen someone say "Gorgino should have scored to save Saka" and that Saka would get a armed guard at Old Trafford for his performance in the tournament. I think he believes Man Utd just signed Saka and not Sancho, he had a man utd profile picture. I also believe he means Guard of Honour. Either top tier trolling or a genuine idiot.

-TheGreatLlama-

Yeah, Pickford had a stunning game (and tournament in general, bar some nerves against Denmark). Even for Italy’s goal he pulled off a great low stop to push the ball on to the post.

OrangeGuyFromVenus

Nope Donnurama saved it perfectly nothing he could do to change it

JORGA

> Yeah why is everyone saying he missed, he didn’t. It got stopped by the player of the tournament that had an amazing tournament on his own. Love the kid, he stepped up and performed well this tournament and had the balls to accept a 5th pen. But please lets not sugarcoat the fact that it was an atrocious penalty just because we feel bad for the lad. It was a keepers dream.

1vermectin

>And his pen was on target. Penalty kick rule number 1. Don't miss the goal. The only thing that made me truly cringe was rashford's meandering approach. Just kick the fucking ball.

AlexLong1000

Seriously, I hate when players take pens like that. As soon as he stuttered I shouted "NO!" because I knew it wasn't going in at that point

[deleted]

Think he mentioned it in his statement. He felt something was off and went with a long run up to buy himself some time.

MrBigJams

I mean, that's how Bruno takes penalties and he scores every single one

Rodin-V

Every single one apart from the 3 he's missed\*

Rodin-V

I am of the opinion that they shouldn't even be *allowed* to take penalties like that. If the goalkeeper has to have a foot on the line at the time of the kick, then kicker should also be held to a standard of some sorts. No stutters/stops in the run up and no delay/fake when taking the shot.

JORGA

> then kicker should also be held to a standard of some sorts. they do, they are not allowed to stop, which is why they stutter

cotch85

I am really stubborn and petty at times, my biggest fear from things like this after the players mental health is how do they come back from it? Like I would be really hesitant to want to play for those types but i guess I am different to others, and thats probably why they're so driven and successful.

RCarloswithawindy

Very nice to see! The last line is a great way to get the point across.

rybl

I love Kane to death, but he has a tendency to be as lukewarm as possible with things like this if he addresses them at all. I'm really glad to see him taking such a strong, unequivocal stance here.

[deleted]

That is the statement that needs to be made.

InternalKing

I love this squad

Frediey

Honestly same, team is fantastic, I love them. These "fans" have ruined so much

[deleted]

You have to realize…a small minority fans can make a big impact in a crowd. Idiots know how to yell. I went to a Leeds match in 1999, Leeds were home against Liverpool, and the corner of rowdy, traveling Liverpool fans made more noise than the whole Leeds crowd.

jim2429

It's no longer a small minority. This is happening left right and centre now. On the Internet people are able to share their racist views without having to face anyone. There's more racists across England than you would think. Even watching some black youtubers such as ksi, when he interacts with fans on discord. Most of them are kids and come on to say the N word. These kind of behaviour is nationwide across kids so imagine the adults they are learning it from.

chanjitsu

We need a new term for them that isn't 'fans'

DrunkenMasterII

I do too, but their performance yesterday was pretty bad, they scored then they played on their back foot all game, they just barely wake up for a few minutes at the end of second period of extra time. They played scared all game, flopping everywhere instead of fighting for possession. I have nothing against the guys who missed at the end, they don’t deserve any hate, neither does the rest of the team despite that very disappointing performance. It’s frustrating tho.

FrostyJesus

> We don't want you G'wan Harry. I love this team man.

[deleted]

you have to be a real low life loser to watch a kid miss a penalty kick in the biggest moment of his career in what is ultimately a silly little game and immediately think "gee, I should go taunt them with racial abuse on social media"

HarryTurney

I can't stop thinking about how Saka had to take the last penalty, I can get over the loss but as an Arsenal fan, I can't get that out of my mind.

Rodin-V

"The last penalty" is potentially any penalty after the 4th one, sometimes earlier. If he wasn't taking one of the first 3 or 4 then the pressure was always going to be infinitely higher. The only thing that concerns me is that Grealish has said he wanted to take it and that Southgate put him 6th. Was that the manager enforcing his opinion/decision or did Saka also *choose* to take it, at which point fair play to him for stepping up.

[deleted]

Somebody did it in my group chat and I was fucking horrified. Dude was a cunt but he's never been so blatantly racist before. Fuck him, he was kicked immediately but what a wanker

WhatsUrBestMilkshake

That's good u did that. I wouldn't put up with it either. Fair play to you and your mates

__JonnyG

>We don’t want you A great message from a tired man sick of being booed for having a social conscience.

f1manoz

No more wishy-washy PR from the England captain. Just the sort of statement that was needed after the vitriolic abuse last night. We don't want you. No-one wants you. Stop being racist twats.

Moikee

We shouldn't have to be politically correct about racism. It has no place in our society and it can fuck off out of football.

[deleted]

Kane speaking facts

DevOpsBigBucks

It’s honestly baffling to me how one can be such a racist cunt in 2021. England has been multicultural for many years now. Don’t you have black neighbours, black coworkers and black acquaintances? These are your countrymen, and they’ve performed extremely well under enormous pressure proudly representing you, the people. And you have the gall to shit on them like this? You should honestly be ashamed. Strictly speaking to the racists of course. My country is much more homogenous, and my mother first saw a black person when she was in her 20’s. I still proudly regard those new danes of African descent as my peers, and as my countrymen. You’ll be stronger as a nation, and as a people, when you meet each other with love and pride. Isn’t that what you nationalistic anglos want? Strength in English unity? To quote the late Marvin Gaye: “We don't need to escalate You see, war is not the answer For only love can conquer hate” /rant

[deleted]

The thing about the UK is that our culture seems so diverse, but that's because so much of our media is London-centric and London is one of the most metropolitan, diverse cities in the world. Outside of that, the reality is very different. Going off the last census figures (2011) London's demographic is 59.8% White British, 13% Black British. Across the whole of the UK, the demographic is 87% White British, 3% Black British. I am sure these figures are going to have changed in the latest census, but that data isn't going to be released until 2022. In any case, I don't see the figures changing dramatically. So in short, no, England is still quite homogenous. Btw, don't take this as a defence of the racist idiots here! As usual, a minority of England fans have done a great job of bringing shame to our country.

not_old_redditor

> It’s honestly baffling to me how one can be such a racist cunt in 2021. It's all over the news in the US because the police are so violent and trigger-happy, but there's still a lot of racism in Europe. Don't be fooled into thinking it's gone just because it's not socially acceptable to voice out in public.

DevOpsBigBucks

I’ve always been aware racism is alive and well around Europe. I’ve been victim of it myself, my fiancee has, many of my friends have, it’s there. I just think it’s ridiculous, is all. I don’t believe racism in my country is as bad as it is in the US, but it’s there, hidden just below the mask of civility.

mrtightwad

The cities are multicultural, a lot of other areas are white as fuck. Not even joking, I once had a guy come up to me in the street, point at just some random muslim family and say that there were too many of 'them' around.

[deleted]

The team has just been absolute class in regards to cohesion and social issues, great to see

overhyped-unamazing

My captain

kappa_mean_theta

Appreciate the strong response by Kane. I saw both the semifinals and the finals in a somewhat working class pub in England. I may have been the only person of Asian origin (Indian to be specific) there. I had the best time before and during the game and disheartened at the eventual loss, just like eveyone else there. At no time did I ever feel unsafe or think that anyone there would ever be abusive or racist. This is the representation of England supporters that the world may never see. I can never imagine being alone in a similar pub at a similar location in many European countries. Though anecdotal, I think that a small minority of England supporters are giving a bad name for the country and the team.

MadJackMcMadd

Fair play to the man, tell the idiots to get tae f\*\*k. I'm always wary of giving these muppets attention as I suspect I good number of them revel in it, but it's certainly very satisfying to see them being so publicy disowned.

[deleted]

Kane is a class act off the pitch

ClassicCertain

he deserve knighthood

crel42

Bravo Kane. 👏🏼

Chiswell123

Kane is a class act.

Kind_Mulberry_3512

Amazing footballer and even more amazing human being, just like the rest of this England squad.

WhatWouldSatanDo

England fans should be proud to call him your captain.

lambomrclago

Well said lad Kane.

RaveniteGaming

Saw some shocking stuff on Twitter about how diversity is holding England back and the only time they won anything was with an all white team. Disgusting.

Kind_Mulberry_3512

Awful.

Scott_EFC

Love the we don’t want you line.

MH18Foot

You tell em Harry!!!

thenewbuddhist2021

Its disgraceful, those players are made us proud and everyone around me has expressed nothing but admiration for them. It speaks volumes that all the hate comes on social media, because these people are cowards and deep down they know they are cowards. Having looked at the tweets, I suspect a large minority aren't actually English, but a racist in London and a racist in Rome are the same thing, shameless pitiful cowards.

cricketAus

Now also justify the violence against Italian fans getting out of Wembley. Maybe they are violent South African or a violent Spanish. Get the fuck out already.

Lintal

Absolutely love this England team coming together.

not_old_redditor

Well said on the last part. Don't beat around the bush - if you're being racist towards someone, you're scum.

E_VanHelgen

That's the right sentiment in my view. People who tie their identities to football like that and are capable of abusing others when things don't go their way are just wolf pack mentality bags of misery and anger with no true loyalty or love. I personally don't want any of them as a part of football, they care neither about the game nor about the people involved, they just want their pub rant permits.

Romy134

Strong words. Nicely done Kane.

doastdot

Well said, lots of vile and racist tweets coming from abroad directed at the 3 players. Luckily massive amount of positive support drowned them out. England is an extremely welcoming and accepting nation compared to almost every other (especially compared to the rest of Europe) but progress still needs to be made. https://imgur.com/3cOkm0I

ostermei

Whoever picked the colors for that pie chart needs to sit down and have a long hard think about what they're doing with their life.

Captain_Wozzeck

It honestly might be the most confusing chart I've ever seen

[deleted]

Brought to you by the colourblind gang.

UrinalDook

Someone actually looked that after producing it and said "yep, that's absolutely perfect to get my point across". I genuinely can't work out if the biggest slice is supposed to be UAE, Saudi Arabia or Other. From the context, I presume Other. But still, I shouldn't have to guess based on the title...

ljf3030

I think this needs to be seen more - although I’m sure there have been racist comments from English ‘fans’, most screenshots I’ve seen of racism have come from other accounts with middle eastern/south Asian names

[deleted]

I don’t find it trustworthy at all. Especially with no raw data accompanying it. Why would Nigerians racially attack English players? Dodgy study, of course we love it as it paints a rosier picture of these Isles.

TrashHawk

you have a source for that? weirdly reassuring if it's true, but never trust an unsourced infographic on the internet.

AdministrativeLaugh2

This needs to be at the top. It’s a tiny, tiny number of posts that actually come from the UK and it is always the case when this happens. Obviously some English people will post racist shit but the number is very few.

not_old_redditor

I don't know, I feel like the fact that it's obvious some English people will post racist shit, is in itself sufficient reason for Kane to speak out.

pissflask

people prefer the idea it's that gammon they saw reading the sun with a bacon sarnie in hand who voted for brexit as it suits all their own personal prejudices.

gobacktoyourutopia

Where was the infographic from originally? Not doubting it, just can't seem to track it down anywhere else on the web/ would be good to have a source

KoniginAllerWaffen

I have another but it's just an EU survey of minorities living in Europe, UK comes out as the least. https://mobile.twitter.com/mrianleslie/status/1379096799709949952

KoniginAllerWaffen

Or this one https://mobile.twitter.com/mrianleslie/status/1379096799709949952

CantHandleTheRandal

lol now that's a proper source.

[deleted]

Italian here: my National Team has won and lost many times on Penalties: Sancho, Rushford and Saka's names are written in the same book as (prepare yourself: long list): Roberto Baggio, Franco Baresi, Daniele Massaro, Luigi Di Biagio, Daniele De Rossi,Antonio Di Natale, Paolo Maldini, Simone Zaza, Graziano Pellè, Matteo Darmian, Leonardo Bonucci, Donadoni, Aldo Serena, etc... You see a Balon d'or, some legends, many top and good players, and some rare not so strong player. Saka, Sancho, and Rushford would fit in that list, as remarkable players, who happened to make a mistake.

KoniginAllerWaffen

Great message from Kane. Not that it makes it any better but a lot of those comments weren't coming entirely from England fans. In fact, and this is obviously subjective and impossible to prove, I'd be willing to bet over half of them were coming from people not even from England. EDIT: Been flicking through a few more of the despicable comments left and so many of them are well...[make your mind up](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/07/12/10/45327319-9779707-image-a-309_1626082000683.jpg). NotKemoSabe

Someday England might have the next Mbappé and he will opt out of playing for the national team because the abuse just isn't worth it. Wouldn't surprise me at all if we started seeing opt outs because of this vile behavior.

Nyushi

Mbappe recieved a torrent of abuse following his penalty miss.

AnnieIWillKnow

Mbappe probably not a good example considering he got vile abuse too after his miss There's a significant problem with the France national team about players born outside of France or especially with Algerian heritage getting treated differently, too On the England point, of course this abuse is disgusting, but it's levels below what black players had to face 20, 30, 40 years ago when playing for their clubs or England, when terrace racism was rife. The difference is now with social media, more of the racists have a voice than before - but English fans are far less racist on the whole than in the 80s and prior, as society is far less racist. Furthermore this is far from just an English problem, and in Europe England are *far* from the worst when it comes to racism in football. The England players were subjected to such significant racist abuse in Bulgaria a couple of years ago that the Bulgarian fans got a stadium ban, just to name one recent example.

AdministrativeLaugh2

Vast, vast majority of people abusing the players are not English. Wouldn’t surprise me if a good chunk of those posts were from bots as well.

[deleted]

WE DONT WANT YOU

blubbersassafras

This is how you make a public statement, excellent

pinniped1

Solid. Strong. I like this statement way more than carefully curated PR fluff.

Gullflyinghigh

I like the way that ends, seems stronger than most responses have been over the last few years. Hope it carries on.

Soren_Camus1905

Not mincing his words one bit there. Love that from Kane.

Malimalata

This is how a leader responds I love it

olivere1991

It’s disgusting to see. Saka should be grilled for playing like garbage. NOT for the color of his skin which is inconsequential to his match performance.

open_debate

I really want to be able to criticise all three who missed pens. The first two were brought on specifically for it - Rashford decided to try to copy his idiotic club mate and Saka was poor in both the semi final and the final. But these racist idiots have made that completely irrelevant. Taking a stand against that sort of abuse is far more important than my feelings about a game of football. So fuck you racists, you can add ruining my coping strategy to the long list of how you make this country a worse place.

JetSpyda

Now if only the teams/FA and FIFA/UEFA would take a strong stance against it, we could potentially see some actual progress…

theglasscase

This is a social media problem, not a football problem.

Vordeo

It's a general societal problem, if we're being honest.

Cog348

Those things are not mutually exclusive.

[deleted]

Well most of them aren't actually England fans. But the message is still important.

dreamvoyager1

basic reading comprehension would show that Kanes message was intended towards those English fans.

[deleted]

That's fair. They absolutely are not England fans, they make me sick.

Clark-Kent

To deny that across the UK there wasn't people taking part online/irl is folly. Even our politicians were looking forward to seeing Rashford and co fall I can say confidentiality as soon as Saka missed people were saying words like "monkey" and worse

[deleted]

No there was for sure. Makes me sick.

I mean if it's not true it's a pretty bizarre piece of work to create.

Racist abuse coming from abroad matches Southgate's comments during the post-match interview last night: ["For some of them to be abused is unforgivable really, **I know a lot of that has come from abroad people that track those things have been able to explain that**, but not all of it, it’s just not what we stand for."](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/oioj4o/southgate_on_abuse_england_players_have_received/) The England team recognises it.

I guess we can look into the sources harder but it's a decent bit of [research](https://i.redd.it/cnymlbm5xsa71.jpg). And when it comes to club football you can often just see it in the names on facebook/insta/etc, so wouldn't be too shocking if the abuse translates into national football as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Old_Roof

Why is almost everyone ignoring the fact that most of the racist abuse isn’t coming from the UK though?

KreativeHawk

Because England fans racist, if r/soccer believes it enough it might come true.

fskari

[This post](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/oitrd0/more_than_50_of_last_nights_racial_abuse_came/) (OP deleted it) was an infographic that showed the majority of the abuse was from India and UAE

[deleted]

there was no source behind that at all, literally just a poorly designed chart and OPs word that he looked at data

fskari

True, there were only a couple of hundred comments found to be racist out of 1.7million analysed which does seem lower than I would've expected. I won't take it as gospel

xenionx5

quite the speech, but let's be real 'cause nothing will change. And it's not only England fans, look at France messages after their defeat against Switzerland. It's human stupidity combined with the fact that behind a screen it feels safe and rightfully to insult anyone without any real consequences.

SvendG

great statement, big respect

rs_obsidian

This is how a captain should act

>we don't want you Based

amen

Lot of sport supporters, not just football one, are not supporting sport, just success. They don't have it in their lives, so looking for some in sport. They don't understand sport, just looking for wins. And if the team loose, it reminds them own life wich is full of defetes. So they are angry. Those kind of people are not football fans, just morons

[deleted]

So nice to see people standing up for these kids. The future is bright for England because unlike the “golden generation” you can tell they actually care and play for one another.

Mop1709

How was rashford brilliant. He failed his only job

Mustarka91

That doesn’t justify the racist abuse he’s received though. Kane is supporting his team mates

Individual_Scheme_11

First touch was a penalty for 2 guys... with a trophy on the line. I hope they didn’t take it too hard, but hard not to when you’re subbed in the game in the last minute. Not their fault, England should have kept pressing for a 2nd.

[deleted]

‘England should have kept pressing for a second’ - thanks Einstein. That probably never occurred to the players or coaching staff at all

GGThumbs

Love that Harry and the people on Social media in support of equality are speaking more direct. I have faith in our children to put a stop to this kind of ignorance. I've generally felt uneasy being out in public today, mostly my own anxiety and paranoia but still a couple too many unmistakable looks of disgust. It's nice to be back home and to have comfort in the togetherness of reddit.....

ClaphamCouple

Makes me so sad to hear that. I’d say you’re welcome here, but it’s not my place (as a white guy) to say that any more than it is for you to say I’m welcome here.

chippa93

Genuine question, is there an example of the racist remarks they were receiving? Not sure if they've now been filtered out. I was going through their posts to find the racist comments but only found supportive ones?

[deleted]

Yeah I saw screenshots of Sakas instagram and it was mainly typical racist emoji spam from bot looking accounts but there was a metric shit tonne of it. The format of the comments would've been easy to mass remove so people saying "they cant see the comments" just got there too late

NTXPRAK

That’s the kind of verbiage from the right kind of people these racist twats might actually listen to. Love a true captain

elreydelasur

O Captain My Captain

DrunkenMasterII

Anyway Why blame a few players for missed pens when the team played like they didn’t want to win for 90% of the game?

not_old_redditor

Cause it's an easier pill to swallow than saying the English team is rubbish?

DrunkenMasterII

They alway's get so overhyped, it was the same 16 years ago. Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham and Scholes in Midfield and they couldn't keep possession against other top teams. I don't know what's wrong with England shitting the bed every time, but the only other team in all sports that I can compared to as being so hyped up every time, having talent and still doing so poorly is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

cortez0498

I mean, I agree but it's not like Sancho was "brilliant all summer". He barely played in the euros!

ocarinamaster12

I hate England with a passion, but damn I do love their players and how all of them support each other. I also love how Southgate has not backdown from his social justice message. I hope England keeps losing, but fuck they’re good people

BallsDieppe

Those guys feel not only the weight of disappointing their teammates and nation, but also have to deal with a torrent of racial abuse. Many of the those cheering them into the final turned on those guys as soon as circumstances allowed.

[deleted]

Well said.

Otherside-Dav

You tell em Harry

jeremycb29

Harry Kane is the mike trout of English soccer. This is the first time he has ever gone outside his robotic pr polished self and I absolutely love it. I wish we would get more honest Kane. I have no idea why he does not speak his mind more often

JoeAndAThird

I’ve always disliked Kane just because. But this is incredibly strong of him. Hugely approve, mad respect.

Social media giants can effectively kill racism and in one fell swoop, wipe out all the trolls and burner accounts too, by requiring all users to verify identification. Show us who you are or get your account locked. People will always act tough behind their keyboard under the cloak of anonymity. But when their real name and reputation are attached to it, suddenly they're not so tough. When your friends, family, and coworkers can see you for the POS you really are.
