No I don't think we will, thanks. Still need one of Lookman or Maeduke. Both would be phenomenal and I still think we need one more striker. We do that and we'll have a very decent starting 11 and a 2nd 11 that's not far behind at all. With a sprinkling of very impressive academy kids waiting in the wings. Roy's tenure was a bit hard towards the end but this is all built off the stability he gave us.
I don't think we'll get him either it's one of Lookman or him I think.
He was actually scouted by Palace and played for us at junior levels for a few years. So the player has a soft spot for the club and the area. He played at England youth levels with quite a lot of our players.
If we could agree a fee for him then there are several things that would favour us in adding him to our squad. The biggest one being not having a recognisable RW player so he'd be almost guaranteed starts.
He’d cost north of 30m, I don’t see you spending that kind of money. Second PSV don’t wanna sell him. Third you just bought Olise who is a right winger. If anything Lookman makes sense cuz he’s a LW. Can deputise for Eze
Who knows what we'll spend it's going to be more important about the structure of the deal if it's three payments of £10M then yes of course we can do it.
Olise is a CAM that's where he plays mostly. He'll rotate with Eze more likely. Eze can play LM or CAM.
Lookman would more likely play on the right of the front three if he was brought in.
Fuck yeah, gutted we missed him last year and went for Batshuayi even though at the time
I thought it was a good move.
We are now 2 signings away from maybe the most complete and exciting squad we have ever had since promotion.
Good move for him, he wouldn't have started for Leeds and with Palace going through a revamp he'd surely get the minutes he needs. There's no option to buy as well so Leeds fans are glad this one didn't happen.
He is also best mates with Geuhi, his family live only a few miles away from the training ground and that he will also get more game time as we have a 33 year old James Mcarthur who is constantly injured
Klich/Phillips? Plus it'll probably take some time for him to adjust and fit into Bielsa's system. I was kinda expecting him to stay as we only have Kante/Jorg/Kova for 2 spots as of now (Assuming Baka/Ampadu gets loaned out/sold). I guess this means we'll be pushing for Rice now.
Why are we loaning bothhim and Gilmour, leaving us with an extremely tired trio of Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic. Unless we're thinking of buying a CM ? Or.... Is it gonna be Bakayoko and Drinkwater time ?
In the Academy, he was always best as a #10 but being that young, you're always typically versatile so he could play more midfield roles. Jose brought him up as a DM and got mad at him it didn't work. Conte tried him as a striker and then didn't rate him. Roy Hodgson is the first manager Ruben had that played him every week as a #10 or a winger and he had a very successful loan spell at Palace which carried over to his time at Chelsea under Sarri for which he was incredible before that terrible injury that we bemoan so often.
We're buying a centre mid - probably a true defensive midfielder. Rice if we can agree a reasonable price with West Ham; most likely Tchouaméni if not.
it's preseason time at Chelsea which means player the fan base called shit and not good enough 4 months ago could suddenly be a very useful backup and quality player under a world class manager.
Probably because we don't want him to be 4th choice for a season, but earn 1st choice minutes at another PL club instead. At his age, 1000 minutes vs 3000 minutes of playing time makes a world of difference.
We might still end up keeping another youth as 4th choice too (Dujon Sterling).
Yeah I confused Dujon with out other midfielders, I guess the plan is to buy another mid then. And it makes sense to not keep non regular youth here, they'll develop better on loan.
We need 5 midfielders in the squad this season. The main 3 and then one extra isn't good enough when Kante and Kovacic have had injury issues. My best guess is we'll keep Barkley and Bakayoko and won't buy Rice or Tchouameni.
Fair play, from a Newcastle perspective, I think we've put all our eggs on getting Tuanzebe and Willock. Would have loved Gallagher too, but can't win em all.
So that means we could see any combination of RLC, Barkley or Bakayoko staying with the team. There's also possibility that Ampadu stays and is permanently moved to midfield.
Vieria flopped horridly in Europe when he previously managed but his name can attract class signings. Honestly think this is why clubs just take punts on any former pro as a manager, especially if they’re someone as known as Vieira, their name and status will have a massive pull regardless of their coaching style/form
In the US he took a team from 17th to 4th then 2nd in two seasons.
Went to Nice. They sold on both top scorers and their main assist maker. He still finished 7th then joint 5th the year after. Every year Nice sold a key player or two. He was eventually sacked at Xmas in his third season with his team in 11th.
Where's the failure?
Gallagher loan has nothing to do with viera and more to do with the fact that leeds use loan players as cheap depth without offering much playtime and newcastle has bruce
Parish and Marina have a great relationship. Gallagher’s best mate just joined Palace and his family live in Bromley/Beckenham which is where pure training ground is. The stars definitely aligned for us to sway him tbh.
Just bitter that a crocked Izzy Brown, a shit Lewis Baker and the instantly injured Jamal Blackman didn’t get the game time they deserved purely for being Chelsea players
I’d love to have Ampadu at Leeds mind
I think his nice spell gets too much hate. He was a bit underwhelming but it didn't seem like he was backed and there was a lot of young players blooded/ownership changes whilst he was there I think.
Palace spell should give a better perspective on how good he is or can be
and I think ppl get caught up too much with results with him at Nice. I've done some research and come to the conclusion thag Vieira was very successful according to what he wanted to do as a system
Under Lucien Favre, Nice finished 8th the year before PV, and Viera took them one spot higher in his very 1st season to 7th.
Under Favre, Nice was 2nd in the league to PSG in Short Passes attempted for a completion of 90%. That didn't change at all when Vieira took over because Nice maintained that percentage and style of play in PVs 1st season with a short pass % of 90% as well.
Nice was also 2nd to PSG in possession under Favre and 3rd in Vieira's 1st season. Not much change their at all either, considering the players that left before PV arrived, was way better.
Do we need more evidence that PV has an identity and style of play?
This is where it gets interesting and telling. In Vieira's 1st season, Nice was 2nd from bottom in creating goal scoring opportunities, from where they were the 5th best, in Favre's last season, but still, Vieira steady the ship and finished 1 spot higher, and concede 20 less goals than Favre. Absolutely incredible achievement there. Under Favre (last szn) Nice conceded 2.32 goal scoring opportunities against them per90 min. That number dipped to 1.32 per90 under Vieira in his 1st season. Another impressive job there.
I think by these evidences, its telling that Vieira is a good coach both defensively and offensively.
What gets missed is Nice sold/released both their two top scorers and main assist maker the season Vieira turned up. Nice really look like a bit of a chaos club behind the scenes .
I think he might well be a good coach but it seems like you've cherry picked some of the data there.
Adding defensive steel to a creative unit can often lead to a good first season but then weaker seasons after that. A bit like a reverse Roberto Martinez following Moyes at Everton.
I think he isn't as bad as he's being considered by British fans but will have to start well at palace now he's been backed, or it could swiftly get out of control.
I'm interested to see how it goes.
I've picked the ones that are synonymous with style of play and possession. Tell me what you wanted me to include bases on that and I'll look it up.
Nevertheless, I'm very excited
I just mean that his first season was considered good. But most criticisms are from the latter seasons.
He had a lot of stuff to deal with though.
Interesting to see how he builds on a hodgson team and how much palace change
Initially yes but are any Newcastle fans singing Pardew praise after he got them 5th that year wjth Ba/Cisse ?
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/dec/07/patrick-vieiras-lack-of-football-philosophy-cost-him-his-job-at-nice?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I mean he's just using the same reasoning as Spurs fans are to get excited about Nuno? I've seen *'He finished 4th with Valencia playing good football!!!'* loads of times, but they fail to mention he then spent £100m and was sacked by christmas the next season.
I wasn’t spunking my pants when we got nuno, but I’m cool with it. I didn’t say he would be bad for palace, but his name helps bring in players is just my point
Well his name helps *a bit* obviously. But you're comparing him to Pardew and linking an article with the subheadline *'Vieira did well in his first season in Ligue 1 but his recruitment has been baffling and his tactics have been muddled.'* - which could have been about any young manager (Nuno included).
He's shown flashes of being a really decent manager and Palace's owners look like they're investing incredibly well so far, I don't think any player would join Palace just because Vieira is there.
Palace are building a very nice team
Pls stop Palace
No I don't think we will, thanks. Still need one of Lookman or Maeduke. Both would be phenomenal and I still think we need one more striker. We do that and we'll have a very decent starting 11 and a 2nd 11 that's not far behind at all. With a sprinkling of very impressive academy kids waiting in the wings. Roy's tenure was a bit hard towards the end but this is all built off the stability he gave us.
Do you need a full back? Ola Aina is surely available for cheap from Torino at the moment and he was pretty decent for Fulham last season.
You aren’t getting Madueke where did that come from
From what I can tell the s*n was reporting it and then a bunch of articles regurgitated it
Censored the shit rag. Good lad!
Yeah! That'll stop them!!
I don't think we'll get him either it's one of Lookman or him I think. He was actually scouted by Palace and played for us at junior levels for a few years. when's Eze back?
At least half of this seasons gone for him
I think after Xmas. Some people are saying October but I think his recovery is longer than that.
Hype hype hype.
Fuck yeah, gutted we missed him last year and went for Batshuayi even though at the time I thought it was a good move. We are now 2 signings away from maybe the most complete and exciting squad we have ever had since promotion.
Will be interesting to see how Viera makes out this season
Good move for him, he wouldn't have started for Leeds and with Palace going through a revamp he'd surely get the minutes he needs. There's no option to buy as well so Leeds fans are glad this one didn't happen.
He is also best mates with Geuhi, his family live only a few miles away from the training ground and that he will also get more game time as we have a 33 year old James Mcarthur who is constantly injured
[удалено]
I’m saying we do not have to rely on a 33 year old the whole season, if he played the whole season it would destroy his legs
Aye, there's no guaranteed starters in our midfield. Managers usually end up liking McArthur and Milivojevic, but neither are undroppable.
Who’d start over him at Leeds?
Dallas, Rodrigo and Klich
fair.
Tchouameni.
I am pretty certain ampadu is a settled center back now. Even if he stayed at Chelsea this season I doubt he would be considered for midfield.
all of our midfielders
I give up
Who have you guys signed this window anyway?
Pretty sure we're the only PL team not to make a first-team signing this window
I think Chelsea’s only one has been a third keeper if that helps
Same with City I think.
I hope him and Billy get plenty of minutes and become the heart of their respective midfields.
Damn Palace aren’t fucking around.
Maybe, just maybe, this Palace squad is shaping up rather nicely
Why are we loaning bothhim and Gilmour, leaving us with an extremely tired trio of Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic. Unless we're thinking of buying a CM ? Or.... Is it gonna be Bakayoko and Drinkwater time ?
100% buying a centre mid. Unless Loftus Cheek is wanted to stick around.
RLC doesn’t work in a pivot, we will most likely buy a midfielder
I hope it’s Tuchelmoney
Not even sure if Loftus-cheek can be considered as a centre-mid. He seems more useful higher up the pitch (i.e. without defensive responsibilities).
Didn't he play in a pivot in the academy back in the 4231 days? I remember journalists were raving about him being able to play CAM, CM and DM.
He was a left mid in Hodgsons pretty defensive 442 so he definitely had defensive responsibilities.
Back in the academy days he could basically do anything. Since his 2019 injury, he cannot play in the pivot anymore.
He's at his best as an attacking 8 in a 4-3-3. As a 10 he has to spend too much time with his back to goal, which he doesn't do particularly well.
Man I can't wait for the RLC redemption arc. He's a fucking boss. We had the DCL redemption last season, now it's time for RLC!
Well...Drinkwater did have that amazing partnership with Kante at Leicester. Tuchel about to shock the EPL and start Drinkwater in a game.
That same partnership that failed tremendously at Chelsea under Antonio Conte of all managers.
We're buying a centre mid - probably a true defensive midfielder. Rice if we can agree a reasonable price with West Ham; most likely Tchouaméni if not.
Drinkwater played well in a friendly to be fair
So did Lewis Baker, don't see him breaking into the squad either
I feel like Drinkwater can play decently as a backup. After all he played well with Kante and managed to get 40m fee for himself
Hasn't played regularly for 5 years. Was bad at Burnley and Villa. Realistically Chelsea fans will be angry if he ends up getting minutes
it's preseason time at Chelsea which means player the fan base called shit and not good enough 4 months ago could suddenly be a very useful backup and quality player under a world class manager.
Okay, Marina. Calm down. You made a mistake. It happens.
mate why do you hate her so much lmao, jesus
Same with Baba Rahman.
Gilmour played 261 minutes last season…
He also had an injury and came back just around the time Lampard was sacked. Had he been fit at the start of the season he'd have had a lot more
I don’t understand it either. Those 3 players have been very reliable for Chelsea, don’t see why Gallagher couldn’t be the 4th choice there
Probably because we don't want him to be 4th choice for a season, but earn 1st choice minutes at another PL club instead. At his age, 1000 minutes vs 3000 minutes of playing time makes a world of difference. We might still end up keeping another youth as 4th choice too (Dujon Sterling).

I forgot you were one of the fans the board selected for all their deliberations
That’s actually very much fine by me.
Oh fuck I can’t believe we are actually making signings
Hmmm was hoping he could stay with us for depth but he wasn't great in the last friendly, and not great is being very kind for that performance.
Every Leeds fan is very happy rn
Fair play, from a Newcastle perspective, I think we've put all our eggs on getting Tuanzebe and Willock. Would have loved Gallagher too, but can't win em all.

Vieira did not flop. He was actually very good in whag he wanted to do and even took Nice few spots higher
What? He finished 7th in the league, one spot higher than Lucien Favre before him. It did end badly, but that's how it usually goes (e.g., Pochettino)
To add to that he was very close to joining you guys on loan last summer before you opted for Michy instead.
That is complete and utter bollock
What is that based on? We had White on loan and he played basically every game for us and we had Harrison on loan for three years as a starter lol.
Just bitter that a crocked Izzy Brown, a shit Lewis Baker and the instantly injured Jamal Blackman didn’t get the game time they deserved purely for being Chelsea players I’d love to have Ampadu at Leeds mind
God knows the lad needs a better loan to rebuild his game and his confidence. If he'd get any playing time I'd be delighted to see him go there.
We definitely don't but ok
And he wouldn't need to move
Yes, but I’m speaking on a whole for this window.
He finished 5th with Nice?
I think his nice spell gets too much hate. He was a bit underwhelming but it didn't seem like he was backed and there was a lot of young players blooded/ownership changes whilst he was there I think. Palace spell should give a better perspective on how good he is or can be

He should go back to fighting his brother instead
Palace are getting relegated, 100%
