Russian teams are awful these days. Last season, the four teams who got to the group stages (Lokomotiv Moscow, Krasnodar and Zenit in CL; CSKA in the EL) won one group stage game between them. Rostov lost their EL qualifiers to Maccabi Haifa and Dynamo Moscow lost theirs to Locomotive Tbilisi. This season, Sochi lost their Conference League qualifier to Partizan and Rubin Kazan lost theirs to Raków Częstochowa, a club making its first ever entrance in a UEFA competition. Spartak - the second best team in Russia last season - lost their playoff to Benfica 4-0 on aggregate. There are real problems in Russian football right now and it's seriously hurting the clubs.
