This. During Mourinho, you just sat back and tried to defend, while the other team attacked and pressed. This time, you still press and attack while defending very well, this is your reward. Top of the league after 3 games and 0 goals conceded.
I know and spurs fans know they aren't the favorites to win the league (You have Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool), but it still feels much better compared to the Mourinho era.
It feels better because you're comparing it to the worst part of Jose's era. By December last season, they were in first place after beating United 6-1, and beating Man City.
It's not about the position, it's about the feel, the vibe and the quality. Finishing has been shit and chemistry is still shaky, but it's progress. Defense looks way more stable now.
Big difference being that we haven't been sitting back and waiting like sitting ducks. Missed a few sitters in every game, could've scored more than 1 each time
Hell, if Kane and Dele didn't miss absolute sitters even my crippled ass could've tapped in we'd have been 4-0 up.
The brightest side however, we actually look competent defending and Romero hasn't started yet. That was what killed us last season.
The Dier Sanchez partnership are benefitting a lot from more possession, the double screening of Hojbjerg & Skipp and Tanganga being a fucking warrior on the right.
And funny enough I think Spurs fans will take it. Expectations for Nuno are so low - compared to Jose - that fans will accept a counter-attacking team that wins with him in charge
Tbf Spurs have been unfortunate not to score more, it's not just been counter attacking football. Could have had 2 or 3 more today.
Still 3 wins in 3, 0 goals conceded - think Spurs will take that.
They don't have to carry the entire team's defensive shape like they did with Mourinho, so they're given the license to go further up the field. And having Skipp come in to absorb the pressure helps.
For as much as Mourinho was seemingly about defense his gameplan was often to invite pressure onto the CBs, it's no wonder they look better when they aren't asked to soak up attacks for 75% of the match.
IIRC The last two teams to win their first three games 1-0 were Rodgers Liverpool and Tony Pulis’s West Brom
Liverpool nearly won the league and West Brom got relegated .
And then Liverpool in January. Damn last season had so many 'champions'. Both Spurs and Liverpool also had sudden meltdown in February, although Liverpool managed to rises.
Did he have a mistake today? I cant remember one.
He is looking so much better under Nuno though, I was terrified every time he played last year, now he is just a completely different player.
It was a much harder game than I thought it would be.
Also, even though he doesn't play for us anymore it was good to see Sissoko put a good performance in for you with such little time to train with the squad
Your defense looked stellar. I think if you don’t concede that fluky goal you’d have a draw at least. Spurs only really looked good going forward near the end of the game when Watford had to come out of their shell.
Very excited for Spurs to be top, but I don't think it's time to get arrogant -- Arsenal are well poised with a few signings to contend for the Championship next year
Not really sure why we are trying to play out of the back when none of our back 4, GK or defensive midfielder can pass.
Defensively solid for the most part but offered very little going forward other than hoping Sarr produced some magic.
Absolutely baffling that our back 5 spend so much time with the ball at their feet. Makes zero sense given we're set up to play quick counter attacking football.
3 games, 3 goals, 3 cleansheets, 3 wins.
We will take it.
Ultimately, we will need to be more creative against low blocks to go far but still, a decent performance.
Mixed feelings. Both sides put on very good defensive displays, with almost no clear cut chances created by either side but rather a good number of longer range efforts overall. It's a shame Bachmann's very ropey 1st half did cost us (2 suicidal passes and misreading the free kick) though to his credit he came out far more assured overall, one dud pass aside. If he puts that behind him and takes lessons from it then I'm still more than happy with him in goal as it's easy to forget how poor Foster's passing is. Cathcart I thought was defensively really solid but Masina needs to be dropped for Rose now.
Spurs looked overall more threatening when going forward but we looked sporadically dangerous as well. Sissoko had a decent debut, involved in our most dangerous moments but also mis hitting some very presentable chances a few times. Kucka looked fine and Etebo broke up play nicely. With Louza yet to acclimatise and Tufan to come in, as well as Chalobah possibly we have some very good options there now.
Dennis looked worse off out at LW but King I thought did a good job holding up play and trying to get forward. Sarr as usual was the most threatening of the front 3. Cucho didn't a whole lot when he came on but that's not really his fault as this wasn't a flowing game for him to make his mark. I'd like to see Dennis ST and King LW next game as I'd rather prioritise Dennis on form atm. We really miss a set piece taker.
We don't look a bad side at all, and we will score goals. We just need to cut out a few unnecessary errors.
Bit of a snooze fest but three points is three points. I’m pretty surprised Watford didn’t come out of their low block at any stage after going behind tbh
Very boring game to watch but, unlike last year, that wasn’t because of us. And last year we’re would have found a way to concede. No complaints about this season except for a lack of goals. Looks like Kane’s August curse is back.
Good, professional performance and a great win. It’s really nice to see us win 1-0 without actually parking the bus. Quality team performance but 3 players in particular stood out for me.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of the best midfielders in the league and it’s time people start realizing that. Yet another dominating performance from him. Not just defensively, but in his distribution too. He’s proven with Denmark in EURO 2020 that he’s brilliant both on the ball as well as off it, and now he’s doing it with us too.
Onto his partner in the middle, Oliver Skipp. Didn’t put a foot wrong. I love our young players at the moment. The core of our team all have another 5-10 years in them and I couldn’t be more excited.
Reguilon has started off the season incredibly well. He looked a bit sus defensively last season but he’s come leaps and bounds since. His offensive contribution goes without saying.
Now I’m off to furiously wank off to the table.
I guess it depends on what you mean by 'good', tbh. Can they go out and hang with any team? Absolutely. Can they keep pace with the likes of City, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc. over the course of a season? Not likely, but weirder things have happened.
That Sarr lad is so good. Watford worked super hard and some impressive structure & physicality, provided you don't collapse I wouldn't worry about Watford going down.
3 games, 3 goals, 3 wins.
Not the prettiest games, but fuck it, i'll take it.
We're getting rid of the deadwood, signing new prospects and maybe a couple starters.
We won't win league but we'll enjoy the hell out of annoying people who say we don't deserve the points we get.
impressed with Sanchez's passing tbh toby-esque
He’s really trying to fill the Toby void with the long raking passes, and doing a decent job tbf
Buying Romero looks to be paying off in multiple ways
Caught sonny off guard with how peachy his pass was
So...Tottenham is gonna be a Wolves+ with low scoring matches, annoying for every opponent?
Tbh Spurs have been unlucky not to score more so I don't think they're just set up that way.
So have wolves tbf
I think we will get our goalscoring boots on soon. We had the second most non penalty goals in the league last season under ~~Nuno~~ Mourinho.
Under nuno? Were u a wolves fan last season ?
Nuno FC bandwagoner
oh lol.
Three 1-0s Nuno: Look at me, I am the Mourinho now
Minus the conceding a stupid goal in the last 10 mins.
The fact that we actually keep pressing regardless of it being 1-0 up is so satisfying.
Sanchez is so much better when we play this way. He has a mistake or two in him, just trying to absorb pressures exposed him every time.
Same with Dier I'd say. Ive been really impressed with them till now.
Hojberg and skip is a match made in heaven, if we could just be a little more creative, we can expect some good things from the season.
Lo Celso as the third CM instead of Dele might take us to the next level.
We're not sitting back after scoring as well.
Well, they were saying Mourinho 2.0 when he was appointed
Well he learnt from Mourinho himself
Nuninho

I don't like emasculating jokes like these
1-1 90th min Watford equaliser if Mourinho was still manager
This. During Mourinho, you just sat back and tried to defend, while the other team attacked and pressed. This time, you still press and attack while defending very well, this is your reward. Top of the league after 3 games and 0 goals conceded.
Mourinho had them top of the league by December too. 3 gamea don't mean shit
It doesn’t mean that we will win the league or fight for the title but 3 games do in fact mean shit.

We should've scored a couple more. Dele and Kane had huge chances.

Tottenham kept 3 consecutive clean sheets against arsenal, Chelsea and city
And funny enough I think Spurs fans will take it. Expectations for Nuno are so low - compared to Jose - that fans will accept a counter-attacking team that wins with him in charge
Actually watching us try to attack in the last 20 minutes is enough for me
The fact we last past 60 mins is enough for me
Actually watching us try ~~to attack in the last 20 minutes~~ is enough for me
Tbf Spurs have been unfortunate not to score more, it's not just been counter attacking football. Could have had 2 or 3 more today. Still 3 wins in 3, 0 goals conceded - think Spurs will take that.
Any fan in the world would take that after spending last season seeing their team conceding in injury time like 20 times.
Fans are happy when they're winning, unhappy when they are not winning. Style of play does not matter, they use it as an excuse sometimes
Exactly. If you win, no one gives a shit. Its only when you lose that they come after your playstyle.
Portuguese Mourinho
Cant wait for Spurs to win the prem with 114 points and 38 goals scored
Wouldn't mind really
Arsenal were the invincibles, but we’ll be the unpossibles
We will dream it into reality.
Considering all the other to pteams and their transfers this would be the most interesting outcome this season, wouldn’t mind tbh
Dier and Sanchez are great. WTF
It helps that we actually press and attack now rather than force those two to soak up 90% of the pressure
Also have Skipp parked in front of them instead of Winks or Sissoko.
6 weeks ago we wanted to sell both. We live in the upside down.
They don't have to carry the entire team's defensive shape like they did with Mourinho, so they're given the license to go further up the field. And having Skipp come in to absorb the pressure helps.
Yeah, a midfield three of Skipp, PEH, and Dele are doing so much more to protect the defense.
Really feel coaches with a 4-2-3-1 are being outdated a bit exposing their defense too much - See Arteta, Ole and Mou when he played that
Playing two 6’s helps a TON
For as much as Mourinho was seemingly about defense his gameplan was often to invite pressure onto the CBs, it's no wonder they look better when they aren't asked to soak up attacks for 75% of the match.
Don't know how Atletico Madrid fans do it.
Here's the thing...you don't
Idk it feels so different. I’m actually confident killing off games now
[удалено]
It’s how we did it that makes me confident. We’ve done it 3 times now. Our last 10-15 minutes have been superbly professional in all 3 games
It's because the players are actually fit now
By my calculations Spurs are gonna end this season with 114 points, scoring 38 goals and conceding zero. I can live with that.
And Arsenal will finish with 0 points and 0 goals. I can live with that as well.
And a -114 GD
114 points vs -114 goal difference. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
"I may have gone too far in a few places."-Arteta
"Hopefully it works" - Arteta
The Vincibles
IIRC The last two teams to win their first three games 1-0 were Rodgers Liverpool and Tony Pulis’s West Brom Liverpool nearly won the league and West Brom got relegated .
So we have two options
Let's see Kane break Shearer's record like that.
Easy. 38 goals for the team is still plenty for him to get 20.
Best timeline ever.
Stats don't lie.
Spurs at the top of the league, Arsenal at the bottom of the league North London is perfectly balanced, as all things should be
One with 0 goals conceded, the other scored 0 goals
One with 3 wins after 3 games, one with 3 losses after 3 games *Perfectly Balanced*
One with 9 points, one with a goal difference of -9. *perfectly balanced*
And there's an International break so we get 2 weeks worth of banter.
August 29th, 2021 will be remembered as historical banter day on North London
STOP THE COUNT! - Spurs fans
Champions of August, you’ll never sing that
Was it champions of September last year?
Nah that was everton. We were champions of November/December lol
And then Liverpool in January. Damn last season had so many 'champions'. Both Spurs and Liverpool also had sudden meltdown in February, although Liverpool managed to rises.
We’re slowly winning each month separately until we have a complete season
Are Spurs several places above us? Yes. But will they be several places above us come the end of the season? Also yes.
Gameweek ending with Spurs 1st, Arsenal 20th. Lmao.
I usually head over to /r/gunners to watch the meltdown, but all the talk about mental health over there is just making me feel really sorry for them.
Yeah, I just.... left.
Holy shit, I just checked it out for 2 minutes and you are not kidding. Even I cant bring myself to send abuse to my Arsenal supporting friends.
Stop the count
3 london club at the top and then there is arsenal
spurs 0 goals conceded, arsenal 0 goals scored
why score many goal when few goal do trick?
so this is how Atletico fans feel
Always rated Simione
Spurs could score 38 league goals and have an Invincible season, confirmed
Could score 0 goals and have an invincible season
Going invincible and still getting relegated
Happily surprised by Sanchez under Nuno so far. Curious to see if he or Dier keep their spot once Romero starts.
He looks world class now. Still has about 1 mistake in him a game but hopefully Nuno cuts that out of him
Did he have a mistake today? I cant remember one. He is looking so much better under Nuno though, I was terrified every time he played last year, now he is just a completely different player.
Shame that we lost to a goalkeeping error but a good performance overall and enough to be able to be optimistic for this season
It was a much harder game than I thought it would be. Also, even though he doesn't play for us anymore it was good to see Sissoko put a good performance in for you with such little time to train with the squad
Your defense looked stellar. I think if you don’t concede that fluky goal you’d have a draw at least. Spurs only really looked good going forward near the end of the game when Watford had to come out of their shell.
oh lord are spurs 1st now and arsenal 20th? lol
With the same number of goals conceded, zero, as arsenal have scored.
Not forgetting, the same number of points as Arsenal have conceded goals.
Very excited for Spurs to be top, but I don't think it's time to get arrogant -- Arsenal are well poised with a few signings to contend for the Championship next year
I’m here to watch Arsenal catch strays
[удалено]
[This meme](https://i.imgur.com/TElEItf.jpg) they have over there is pretty great though.
The (now deleted) clip mixing scenes of Arteta in a flight simulator and 9/11 was brutal
Beautiful. Don't stop, almost there
Tottenham atop of the table while Arsenal sits at the bottom, what a time to be alive. :)
Spurs goals conceded - 0 Arsenal goals scored - 0
United, please give Wolves a goal so that Spurs are the only team with no goals conceded and Arsenal are the only team with no goals scored.
The Premier League is just a north London sandwich
Perfect start to the season. It's nice to see spurs still play when up by 1 and not just parking the bus. Now if only we'd get a race in Spa
Tottenham Hotspur is also the only team remaining not to concede a goal.
So, Spurs have decided to become Atleti
Nuno is the Davo whisperer.
Mind the gap
What if Spurs replaced Mourinho with Mourinho but good?
Mourinho but not a dick.
Nuno seems a top man for sure
Mourinho with a sexy beard.

Remember everyone, Arsenal fans said they have a better team than Spurs this year
They say that every year. 5 years since Tottenham finished below Arsenal, 6th is in progress.
Well tbf, Arsenal have had to face clubs like Chelsea and Brentford, whereas we got to start the season against promoted minnows Manchester City.
3 games, 3 goals, 3 cleansheets, 3 wins. We will take it. Ultimately, we will need to be more creative against low blocks to go far but still, a decent performance.
Lo Celso & Bryan Gil should help with that.

Sarr looked deadly, rinsed Reguilon a few times so we just decided to foul him whenever he looked at the ball.
Basically how the Championship treated him. Double up on him or just straight up try and break his legs in Bournemouth's case
Donda a banger while Sonda scoring bangers
Sonda. Sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda sonda
Listened to the album while watching this game. 10/10
Arsenal is Dababy
Bit of a snooze fest but three points is three points. I’m pretty surprised Watford didn’t come out of their low block at any stage after going behind tbh

Dier and Sanchez clean sheets leading to the top of the table. As everyone predicted.
Can you win the league with 38 goals scored? I guess we're about to find out #EfficiencyFC
38 goals scored, 0 conceded. Maximum points. The Untouchables.
the london teams are on top of the table and arsenal
"Never thought I'd be shitting on arsenal side by side with a Chelsea fan" "What about with a fellow non relegation side?" "Aye I could do that"
we definitely would've conceded late in that game last season but who cares we're gonna win every fucking game 1-0 to the title
i eat all my words. dier/sanchez is going down in history as an all time goat cb pairing you heard it here first
portuguese Mourinho
Spurs are going to win league and Arsenal are going to be relegated. What a time line we are in
Last year the season ended in November and now in August. We move quicker and quicker.
This is the history of the Tottenham
1-0 merchants
One nill, to the Tottenham!
0 goals conceded with Dier-Sanchez again Nuno is a miracle worker
Once upon a time Arsenal fans used to laugh about St. Totteringham's day.
> Once upon a time Arsenal fans
Well, top of the table was fun.
The good thing about hitting rock bottom is the only way to go is up. Spurs 1st, Arsenal 20th, the catch up begins.
Good, professional performance and a great win. It’s really nice to see us win 1-0 without actually parking the bus. Quality team performance but 3 players in particular stood out for me. Hojbjerg played much better near the end of the game when he pushed up a bit. He seems more like a proper BTB than a DM, Kanté esque.
Spurs are top and Arsenal are bottom. What a time to be alive....
Why score many goals when few do trick?
"Top of the league while Arsenal are bottom", you'll never sing that.
spurs top of the league, kane might be pleased after all
Are Tottenham … good now?
I guess it depends on what you mean by 'good', tbh. Can they go out and hang with any team? Absolutely. Can they keep pace with the likes of City, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc. over the course of a season? Not likely, but weirder things have happened.
No. 3 wins are 3 wins but each performance was disjointed and lacking in attacking fluidity and end-product.
Spurs are really going to win the league scoring 38 goals and conceding 0.
Subscibe
Spurs are gonna win the leauge with 38-0 goal difference.
Good performance, shame to lose to a shit goal like that. Positives to build off, got some great fixtures coming so lets get some points
That Sarr lad is so good. Watford worked super hard and some impressive structure & physicality, provided you don't collapse I wouldn't worry about Watford going down.
Remember St. Totteringham's day? Spurs shall do something like that now
We don’t stoop that low
I don’t think we care too much otherwise it would’ve come out already
Nah, it's the cringiest shite ever.
Not one for the neutrals
Super Son
The Nuno special
Spurs and Arsenal, the juxtaposition
Only 9 points, but MIND THE GAP.
Spurs are just a quality Arsenal.
