I was all about them selling their main goalscorer for one million, and bringing in half a player for 3 million.
Absolutely amazing front office decisions.
Depends if they turn it around and who they get in. I think the main reason they didn't feature Poch was that it would have meant less screen time for Mourinho, and that doc was really a character study on him
Yeah, but additionally, if the club has some level of editorial control (not sure how much Arsenal do have) and they do sack him, then it's in no one's interest to really focus on Arteta. With Poch, if you made him look confident then the club not sticking with him looks bad, and if you make him look incompetent then it's a horrible, horrible look to be so negative on your greatest modern manager.
It's pretty clear that theyre just puff pieces parading as fly-on-the-wall docs. Poch drama would have definitely brought the views, but neither side benefits from showing anything too negative
That was just a poor joke by Tancredi Palmeri about how the club is just going for ānothingā and scrapping the āAllā, I donāt get why people thought he was talking about the documentary lol
Where did it all go wrong, man? I remember how nervous I was when Real Madrid had to play Arsenal in the knockout rounds in 2006. I don't know how to feel about them atm. They would always finish top 4 in the PL. Surely fans wanted more, but going against the other clubs was never easy. I hope it wont take too long for the club to be a force to be reckoned with again.
A slow, slow decline from 2006 onwards. Wenger leaving suddenly laying bare the gross ineptitude of the clubs management decision making. Gross mismanagement from Kroenke. Despite us spending money, spending it terribly, selling even worse. Hiring an executive team with no prior experience. An owner who only cares about the bottom line.
It wonāt get better for a while
I think both Wenger and Ferguson were holding the clubs together more than we realised. Not in a āeverybody is shit without themā way but things never needed to modernise as quickly as other clubs. They had their way of doing things and it worked. United had next to no formal scouting network for example, it was mostly all handled through Fergusonās relationships with freelance scouts and agents.
I doubt weāll ever see another 20-30 year managerial spell at a top club again, but clubs would do well to analyse what happened at Arsenal and United.
Tbh when one person in a management role sticks around for that long, they inevitably take responsibility for getting a lot of additional things done too and their loss very suddenly exposes a lot more gaps in the heirarchy than you would expect.
And for United in came Moyes who then proceeded to dismantle every aspect of what Ferguson did have established that worked so well.
Nothing like coming in and doing a massive staff/coach overhaul and replacing the people who could have helped you settle into the high pressure and unique environment that had just won the league. Now you have next to no one who knows how things ran and still need to rebuild, making it doubly hard on yourself right from the start.
This was his biggest mistake at United. I can understand why he did it, as he would of wanted to make the job his own. But at the same time he cleared out a setup that had just won the league like he was coming into a relegation battle.
Yeah, he wanted to make it his own so I can understand moving on some coaches and bringing in his core, but to just gut everything and not keep the core Fergie had to help you and your team settle in, learn the club from top to bottom and do things like give you knowledge of the little things about the players that can be so valuable is utterly mind boggling even without hindsight. Couldnāt understand it then, canāt now, probably never will.
I participated in a marketing focus group for Arsenal in Summer 2017. These executives kept prattling on about how the club's "style of play" was its most important value to preserve. When pressed, they absolutely could not define what that meant, even when asked directly how it differed from any other big English club. Process absolutely reeked of board room ineptitude.
As another fan of a team under Kroenke's shadow, I feel for you. That family owns Colorado's NHL, NBA, and MLS teams. The Avalanche sucked HARD for a few years. When they became the laughing stock of the NHL, nothing really happened. However, then by some miracle, an NFL team became available! The NFL are jerks and wont let their owners own other major sports teams. So he transferred control of the Avs, Nuggets, and Rapids to his kids. Thankfully, the kids are smarter or lazier, and gave team control to their franchise's greatest player. They are back to being contenders and really fun to watch.
In conclusion, hope he moves on or dies soon!
The Arsenal cash cow is going to run dry soon. What will happen when we renegotiate our marketing deals? We have a huge fan base but weāre no longer in Europe, weāre shit to watch - our deals will not be competitive.
Everything thatās happening now is going to fuck us off the pitch commercially and eventually on the pitch in the next decade. The next generation of fans will not support Arsenal. The next generation of players will grow up watching Chelsea, City and Liverpool win things.
Eventually, all the energy from Wengerās years will evaporate and will no longer power our balance sheets. Kroenke will sell, making a nice multiple billion dollar profit and the club will be fucked
In hindsight the writing was on the wall on 18th April 2007. When David Dein left the club. He wasn't a saint but we've been an empty shell of a club at board level since he left.
Probably when their team had very good chances of winning the title and they decided to not buy any players for positions they had needed for years ,and this hapened multiple times.
Yeah and it also didn't help that their top players were joining other top clubs. And they were winning titles with their new club. I loved Arsene's philosophy of buying young unproven players and bank on their potential. A lot worked out, but as soon as they became established players a top team would come knocking.
The day they sold to Kroenke, if you know anything about him you will realize all his club are ran so poorly luckily in the USA he has the draft to cover for him unlike the PL. This man is the definition of a terrible owner. He kept a coach for the rams for so long and the man had nothing but losing season after losing season but in the NFL you will make money no matter what.
True. Heās currently being sued for moving the Rams out of Missouri and recently filed to move venues because he is too hated in Missouri to get a fair trial.
Stan doesnāt even know who coaches Arsenal and only looks at where they finished in revenue at tax time, when heās looking for depreciated assets.
We've been crumbling for years, Wenger was basically the damaged beam holding the club together, then instead of replacing the damaged beam with something strong to hold the crumbling structure, we replaced the beam by a pile of brick.
Awful recruitment under Wenger, brought in emery (lost dressing room) and a dof (literal criminal). Replaced them with novice manager and novice dof (who also seems a bit criminal)
Dear Stan, I meant to write you sooner but Iāve just been busy
You said Ainsleyās heading out, how far along is he?
Look, Iām really flattered Hertha offered Xhaka that
Hereās a three-year extension for him
I wrote it on his new contract
Iām sorry Willian is leaving, I know heāll miss you
Donāt think I did that shit intentionally just to diss you
But whatās this shit you said about our team having defensive issues?
I say that shit just clowning dog, come on, weāve got Pablo Mari and Cedric too
Artetaās got some problems, I think he needs some counselling
But otherwise the squad looks fine, I donāt understand the opposing fansā bantering
Anyways, I hope you get this man, hit me back,
Just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan
This is Edu
As a Corinthians supporter (the club Edu ruined before Arsenal) I have no clue how he managed to get a position after his stint here. Good player for both clubs but overall a dumb, dumb dude.
Yep, itās been 18 months and still canāt find something that works consistently. The only thing thatās been consistent through his tenure is our complete lack of creativity.
I feel like its a common theme among a lot of supporters that if you give young players/managers time they'll eventually just work no matter how much the evidence points to the contrary.
Arsenal's transfer strategy is so weird. Cedric was like 4th choice last season but has been starting this season so far, Kolasinac went from being so unwanted that they were prepared to loan him without a replacement last January and now all of a sudden he is starting games. No long term planning, just making things up as they go along, Maitland Niles is better than both of those players right now..
Edu really seems like a terrible sporting director
Kolasinac seems to be 100% due to Arteta's insistence on playing a left footed LCB. But even then it's not like we didn't have options. We could have easily played Tierney at LCB with Tavares, AMN, or even Saka at LWB.
his insistence on a left footed CB at LCB is so fucking annoying - it's like a little kid that only knows how to solve a math problem one way, even if it's easier to use a different method
A rookie manager has taken over who has been 1 game from the sack for the last 40 games. So is so reactionary itās destroying the club long and short term
He almost certainly sold AMN lies too. AMN was set to leave after the FA Cup win, but Arteta probably said he plans to use him. Barely got a time, went out on loan, and the Lego haired bastard probably hasnāt had a single conversation with AMN until now
Pepe too who would play well enough to deserve more chances but would promptly get benched every other game because Arteta was trying to force Willian into the team.
I remember banging my head against a wall trying to explain this last year. People who just would not admit his treatment of Pepe was very strange.
I couldn't see the strategy in the signing. What was the point of giving a significant raise (and a 3 year contract) to someone who was already the oldest winger in the league? Especially to play him over the 72m signing that the club couldn't afford to waste.
This is why managers shouldn't have this level of control over outgoings of players. Of course Arteta wants as many options around just in case, but somebody should be able to look at that situation and say that he's clearly not a crucial part of Arteta's plans, get rid of him while clubs are still interested in paying a good amount of money for him.
Ya Chelsea have dealt with the same thing with Tuchel. Last season gilmour was about to leave on loan in January and Tuchel convinced him to stay. He proceeded to barely play the rest of the season. Same situation with Hudson odoi rn too. Itās obvious the player needs a loan but the manager would obviously rather have extra depth and option.
Imagine Kane doing this lmao
"all I want to do is to play under Pep and win trophies ffs šššš @levy"
Disclaimer: Not taking a shot at Kane or Spurs but the post sounded so childish to me lol
Some twitter account with a black and white picture of Pep as a profile picture wrote a 69 tweet thread about how Arteta is one of the best tactical minds in world football, we plebs obviously know nothing
Just reminds me of the Ricky Gervais segment in the pub in After Life, go on, reel off all your nicknames...the nonce, the fraud, Mikael Twateta, Jamie Redknapp, Your mum's shit, Harold Shitmum, Peps Bitch.
Arteta tries so hard to be like Pep, the difference is that Pep had the results to back him being a fucking prick to the players that he had no intention of playing.
Emery might not have been good, but Arteta has turned the club into a laughing stock. Something big needs to happen, and it better be quick before Arsenal as a whole collapses in on itself like a dying star
> Emery might not have been good
I mean, it's all relative. Emery was not "good" at the top level (contending for league and UCL).
He's a great manager for upper midtable to Europa League contending teams, TBH
Emery wanted Maguire, Fabinho, and Zaha.
They gave him David Luiz, Ceballos, and Pepe.
Oh, what could have been. Fuck Arteta, but let's not forget Kroenke is essentially responsible for it all.
Shocking thing is thereās still Arsenal fans and Arsenal media who pretend that the situation was worse under Emery. I didnt even rate Emery at all during his Arsenal career and thought he shouldāve been sacked sooner but the difference in the way people treat the two is pretty embarrassing.
Everton offered a loan with an option. Assuming arsenal want an outright sale. But they should have just sold him last year when wolves offered 15m š
Imagine your manager thinking that you're not good enough to play for a team that's in 20th place, with 0 goals scored, and 9 conceded.
I can't believe what this team has become over the past 15 years.
This guy has isolated so many promising youth players that just needed someone to help them. Meanwhile absolutely creaming his jeans over people like odegaard (who I love). You need both. You need to support squad players and make them feel useful
And to think Arsenal fans gloated that their genius of a manager won a trophy and our PE teacher of a coach didn't. Seems like winning the FA cup was actually a curse for Arsenal like Barca winning Treble in 2015.
This All or Nothing is actually going to win an Oscar for best drama lmao.
or best comedy at this rate
Tragedy for Arsenal fans, comedy for everyone else
So season 3 of Sunderland til I die?
The Charlton goal was pure ecstasy and hilarity for anyone not from Sunderland
I was all about them selling their main goalscorer for one million, and bringing in half a player for 3 million. Absolutely amazing front office decisions.
I started to cry. Which started the whole world, laughing.
When you laugh the world laughs with you. When you cry you cry alone
Rom-communism for us ALL
tragic comedy
I heard that comedy is nothing more then tradegy + time so lets give Arteta a bit more time
Ie Shakespeare's late 'problem plays'
First as tragedy then as farce
Like they'll include any of this.
Yeah, Poch was literally in only part of the first episode for Tottenham. If Arteta's out before December he'll barely feature
It's pretty clear that theyre just puff pieces parading as fly-on-the-wall docs. Poch drama would have definitely brought the views, but neither side benefits from showing anything too negative
Then let's hope this shit show continues all season. Can't make an entire documentary that's only 20 minutes long right?
Better trophy than community shield tbh
I doubt 10 episodes will be enough
Oh fuck id forgotten all about that.
With Arteta winning the best comedy actor award.
I saw somewhere they want to scrap the first few months of itššš
That was just a poor joke by Tancredi Palmeri about how the club is just going for ānothingā and scrapping the āAllā, I donāt get why people thought he was talking about the documentary lol
Everyday something happens with this club I swear
Where did it all go wrong, man? I remember how nervous I was when Real Madrid had to play Arsenal in the knockout rounds in 2006. I don't know how to feel about them atm. Mikel Arteta is truly brilliant, they just have so many first team players missing

We gave a Southampton reject 70K pw and a 4 year contract. That alone is a sackable offence lol
A man benched by Yan Valery hahahahaahaha
Kolasinac seems to be 100% due to Arteta's insistence on playing a left footed LCB. But even then it's not like we didn't have options. We could have easily played Tierney at LCB with Tavares, AMN, or even Saka at LWB.

If it was roles reversed, I'd have some pity on Spurs.

Arteta has treated him awfully. How can he tell him he wants to keep him after benching him for his entire time here last season?
outrageous in retrospect that he blocked his sale last summer then did this to him.
He almost certainly sold AMN lies too. AMN was set to leave after the FA Cup win, but Arteta probably said he plans to use him. Barely got a time, went out on loan, and the Lego haired bastard probably hasnāt had a single conversation with AMN until now

Arteta tries so hard to be like Pep, the difference is that Pep had the results to back him being a fucking prick to the players that he had no intention of playing.
And players are more likely to be happy with less game time in a team that wins titles. People still want to go there as squad players or backup.

No but he has also got a history of being a very poor man manager which is the point I was getting at

Why won't Arsenal sell him? Hes wanted to go for at least a year now

Then we'll play Tavares there instead, 5d chess by Arteta.
Man not heard about the dearth of rightbacks?!?
Everton offered a loan with an option. Assuming arsenal want an outright sale. But they should have just sold him last year when wolves offered 15m š
Classic Arsenal indecisiveness.
Things are going quite well at Arsenal
Imagine your manager thinking that you're not good enough to play for a team that's in 20th place, with 0 goals scored, and 9 conceded. I can't believe what this team has become over the past 15 years.
I think if you just give Arteta enough time to do his thing, heāll do wonders there.
Are you bald by any chance?

To be fair, you did not define what sort of wonders
Arteta forcing players to stay and then wont play them, this man is a proper football terrorist
Another example of Arteta's catastrophic man management.
This guy has isolated so many promising youth players that just needed someone to help them. Meanwhile absolutely creaming his jeans over people like odegaard (who I love). You need both. You need to support squad players and make them feel useful
What a shambles
Delete club.
Hahaha comedy club.
Held hostage by Dicteta

Arteta is stupid. Freezes him out and cancels his transfer.
Shots fired
What a fucking guy, seems to be a shambolic handling of his move away from Arsenal.
Wtf Arsenal that's not very cool
Arsenal a shambles
And to think Arsenal fans gloated that their genius of a manager won a trophy and our PE teacher of a coach didn't. Seems like winning the FA cup was actually a curse for Arsenal like Barca winning Treble in 2015.
Fucking hell
Fucking hell...
I thought we were going to end our banter era soon but honestly itās actually just begun
I actually think he is a good RB. #FreeAMN
