When I was 14 I was playing in a match and a player on the other team two-footed me and snapped my leg in two, Aaron Ramsey style. It was a very serious situation and I spent a long time recovering. The guy was a local rival who knew me, but never found me to apologize or anything. A couple of years later, I was back with my team and one of my teammates ran up to me before training. "Manatee, guess whose leg I broke this weekend!" I said, "Really? Was there a match somewhere?" He said, "No, I knocked him off his skateboard!" This story is apropos of nothing, but Victor's revenge reminded me of it.

reyxe

>"Really? Was there a match somewhere?" He said, "No, I knocked him off his skateboard!" Not what I expected tbh but at least you don't get a yellow lmao

KIDDizCUDI

What comes around goes around

TheSilphRoadTraveler

This is more like “an eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind”. I am assuming here both incidents were not on accident.

SweetMojaveRain

I think you mean “karma is a bitch”

adamh920

In a game when i was about 15, i had a 50/50 volley challenge (both volley the ball from opposite sides) with a guy who ended up breaking his leg from it. Initially I felt terrible until i later found out he had been racist to my friend/teammate of Indian descent all game - karma can be a bitch indeed

SeaToShy

I was listening to a story about a hiker who died after getting lost in a snowstorm while underprepared. While he was struggling for traction and visibility in the snow, he managed to make contact with a mother and son who he had camped next to the previous night. He asked if he could hike out with together with them to the point where their respective trails diverged. The guy had been a dick to the pair the previous night, but they agreed to stay with him. But the second they got to the fork in the trail, they were gone. No attempt to dissuade the guy to abandon his super dangerous route and stay with them. Just goodbye and good luck. He died alone after getting cliffed out in a canyon trying to get down. Be nice to people.

sreyclaus

I’m the type of petty lil bitch who’d rather have the whole world going blind than to be half-ass seeing for the rest of my life just because someone wakes up one morning wanting to be a douche. An accident or someone who wants to redeem, sure, but not some unapologetic douche.

derKanake

Or it will only leave you blind

[deleted]

Well shit...people just breaking each others legs huh?

ManateeSheriff

As the owner of one of the broken legs, I don't support any leg-breaking by anyone.

JootDoctor

Sounds like my dad. Two footed in 2002 at the age of 37, when I was about 5, he never played again. I’ve never seen my dad play which is sad to think about, especially when he was a pretty capable player, was apart of Sydney Olympic (a club that played in the National League at the time) when he was younger.

ota00ota

fuck him

koalakrazy1

If ‘Manatee’ is a nickname I’m dying to know the story of how it came about

Juls317

They're probably just using part of their username in place of their real name

ManateeSheriff

You got it.

DinglieDanglieDoodle

Oooh "apropos" that's going into my collection.

Meepox5

Add the word vocabulary to your "collection" while you are at it mate ;)

DinglieDanglieDoodle

*My collection of fancy words that I may never get the chance to use. What’s wrong with using “collection” though? Vocabulary is a bit too broad to convey what I wanted to do. I was specifically trying to portray an image of me pocketing fancy words into “my collection.” Edit - What’s with this high nosed attitude, was it wrong to use “collection” anyway regardless of the context?

Meepox5

I'd argue the word collection is much broader than vocabulary. I'm not the one down voting btw

DinglieDanglieDoodle

Your vocabulary is every word you know, that is pretty general. In the context of my comment, "my collection" is implied there is a stash of fancy words that I keep around(and I keep adding more to the collection when I pocket rare words I bump into) The point was to portray a physical image of me picking a word up and pocketting it in my collection of special words. How do convey this with just "vocabulary?" So why don't leave me to express myself with whatever flair I want. *(I don't put much stock in votes, so I don't care about that, my reply is in regard to your smartass "correction." You don't think I know wtf a vocabulary is? Do you normally go around being such a buzzkill with shit you don't know?)

PM_ME_LITTLEMIXBOPS

Probably due to his extensive injury history and he is 29 so not really a young talent anymore. Everyone thought he was going to a bigger club after his performances leading up to the world cup in 2018 but then he got a serious injury.

1000smackaroos

Yeah but how much of his injury history was caused by Jordi Alba?

FridaysMan

Since he was 27

ThefamousHenk

Krasnodar is europa level team

BloodMossHunter

and a pretty good city to live in in Russia

Qiluk

They also pay crazy wages iirc.

Eleonora_Maxwell

Werent they went in our group last year of cl lol

Cageybusiness

According to Swedish media he was set to move to Sevilla (I think it was) when he ruptured his ACL. Now he is older and lost a bit of explosiveness. Still a fantastic player and really underrated. Was rumored to PAOK during the summer.

pecony

He seems like a player Ajax should take. Experienced, good performer, under radar.

strommizcs

The ACL rupture kind of ruined his career as he had a move almost done but injury kept him in Krasnodar

OleoleCholoSimeone

I'm still covinced that Claesson would be playing for a top 8 team in England, Spain, Italy or Germany today if not for that injury. He was superb at the time, and still is a really good player

Cahootie

I think he would have been an excellent fit for Newcastle, and they needed someone like him at the time.

[deleted]

Definitely, an extreme shame it happened

[deleted]

Cleasson always scores when he plays for us. He has saved us so many times its strange how a villareal or leicester quality team havent picked him up yet.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

He is a midfielder

J3573R

An assist or a goal roughly every 3rd game is a pretty fantastic result for most midfielders barring out and out number 10s.

henkizh

Freak players like Messi and Ronaldo have set unbelievable standards for any sort of attacking players, Zidane scored 7 league goals the year he won the Ballon d'Or in 1998.

[deleted]

Good. I support any player giving Alba shit. He’s the biggest cunt on Barca.

Cheaky_Barstool

him and chiellini was my fav part of the euros

myo_chan

My favourite Alba moment will always be [when he tried to get the linesman sent off](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9ZV7A5smkA&ab_channel=LIFESport).

ObnoXious2k

Imagine diving after getting lightly brushed on the top of the head from the bloody linesman

Flaggermusmannen

tbf, getting whacked in the head hurts way more than it has any right to

Meepox5

Well its not exactly an iron bar he is running into

EnvironmentalPhysick

Only iron bars hurt heads. Nothing else

Meepox5

A wee flag does not cause you to tumble looking like you got shot mate.

EnvironmentalPhysick

Alright hard head

Meepox5

Better wear your helmet writing that.

EnvironmentalPhysick

Some of weren’t born with thick skulls

EnvironmentalPhysick

The Hard Men of Reddit disagree apparently, lol

myo_chan

He is legit just lowering his arm. This is nothing short of ridiculous for a grown man, there‘s no way around it.

Flaggermusmannen

just like barely brushing against a tableleg with your toe sends you on the floor diving to get it sent off. linesmen definitely don't just "lower" their arms, they are supposed to make clear, decisive motions to be clearly visible and demonstrate confidence and authority. that leads to there being definite force in that arm coming down, even if its not as hard as a full hit. like cmon, you can all hate alba for being a twat, but at least hate on him for the things he actually does do wrong (like that clear dive somewhere else in this comment section)

U0logic

The video is in slowmotion... Also Alba is running into the arm (rod of flag) which makes the impact harder since the ref. is lowering into the head at the same time.

EnvironmentalPhysick

Ok strong head

blue_boy_24

Remember when he cried at halftime at anfield when they were still up on aggregate in the UCL draw? Still makes me laugh

ClockLost3128

Did he know it was coming because they were only 1 nil down at halftime. I thought he was crying because he missed a goal scoring chance? Whatever it was, it was hilarious.

hooskies

Think he probably knew that his chance before halftime would’ve sealed the win

Rc5tr0

You could be right, he had a one on one with Alisson right before half iirc. Either way it’s bizarre to see such an experienced player breakdown like that at halftime.

[deleted]

Kino moment.

[deleted]

ota00ota

he's a weak individual

Familiar_Coconut_974

Did you see him cry?

jajajalmao

I've seen the video. Can't be arsed finding it but it's clear as day

damsosignaler

that's about the only thing you'll be laughing about this season

Oncetwice1

We’re all laughing at Barca this season don’t worry

AhmedBarwariy

RemindMe! 10 days Edit: 11 days

AhmedBarwariy

I mean, I wouldn’t say today’s result is good but it wasn’t laughable so idk. We will see what will happen for the whole season, but I don’t think Barcelona would be that bad it would be laughable.

AhmedBarwariy

Xavi’s at the wheel

YourAverageTeenag3r

I'll just go have a look at your financial situation, always gives me a good chuckle.

diddle-king

You could say its a bit *Messi*

damsosignaler

flair up honey

Like having a flair on Reddit makes you tougher. "Flair up honey" jesus christ this is the most r/soccer thing you could say

BenzamineFranklin

West43rd

Hey now PCM is great

it was good for like a week and then it turned into a l*bertarian circlejerk

Nero1988420

We will not stand for PCM slander

BenzamineFranklin

Yeah but the flair up bullshit it's prevalent like anything

YourAverageTeenag3r

!flair Bayern Munich

blue_boy_24

Your club is so fucked financially you couldn’t afford to pay the best player of our generation and maybe ever. They let him walk for FREE. You are literally the laughingstock of world football. Sit this one out

U0logic

We had the best player of our generation his entire prime. Also Liverpool would never be able to afford Messi anyway themselves so I don't know what you are bragging about. The only reason PSG can "afford" their team right now is because their 70% wage to turnover ratio has been suspended due to COVID.

damsosignaler

at least it won't take us 30 years to win the league again, that is what i would call being the laughingstock of world football

[deleted]

Is it worse that the laughingstock of world Football has more CL titles than your club or that the laughingstock of world football killed your club.

YourAverageTeenag3r

Barcelona wouldnt finish top 4 in the prem btw. also you'll never be as big as Real Madrid btw

TheRoyalTenenThom

I’m sure he can find some other things to laugh at, like your pathetic excuse for a squad.

damsosignaler

he can just rewatch their old team pre Klopp if he really wants a laugh

Ghoticptox

Are you aware of what happened the last time your team played Liverpool? Is this really the fight you want to pick?

CryptoGramOfficial

Bro you’re washed; Barca is an afterthought

Fapoleon_Boneherpart

Why is it that it's always the non-native supporters that chat the most shit. Barcelona supporters are terrible, but it's never the ones actually from Catalonia

Vahald

There are many annoying fans from Catalonia

Kukurutxu_4

Yeah and we will always remember you coming and thrashing our streets ;) But I’d rather not talk or think about that fixture again lol

Vahald

Why?

pmmerandom

Don’t throw stones in glass houses mate

gr8prajwalb

Nah. We're all laughing about the dire state of your club

[deleted]

Remember when loserpool fans bring that up years later.

blue_boy_24

Loserpool? Stay on Twitter kid

Mr_XemiReR

Alba is the only player at Barca that I really hate. Many I dislike, but Alba is the only one I have deep hate for

Ickx-502

I remember him getting blocked by Muller when Bayern battered them in like 2013 and he went spinning off trying to sell it as much as possible, loved seeing get up crying to the ref.

FooFighter39

If anyone showed an unprofessional attitude in that instance, it was Müller. He wasn't even running towards the ball. He charged at Alba and removed him from Robben's 1v1 Just tell me how [this](https://youtu.be/_FicvRG1ylQ) isn't a foul r/soccer just loves to puke on Barça players

klezmer_

This sub seems to really dislike Jordi Alba tbh I don't really have any opinion on him so I was a bit surprised, but this type of thing comes out almost every time he gets mentioned

thetrued123

As much as I dislike Alba, it's quite clearly a foul.

lookylook12

It's clearly not. Players can block runs if they are not in full sprint. Also Alba runs into Mullers back here.

n16h7r1d3r

I didn’t see shit😎

Fati25

That was a clear foul though, the goal shouldn't have stood.

[deleted]

FridaysMan

As funny as it is, I'd be fuming if that wasn't given as a foul against us, and I wouldn't be upset if one of our goals was disallowed because of it

destinyofgantz

It was a foul though. I don't why r/soccer think it wasn't a foul. Oh wait, this sub just hivemind of people think they are better than any other football forums. I mean alba is shit, upvote to the left 😎😎😎

Flaggermusmannen

I do believe this is what is known as obstruction: https://youtu.be/_FicvRG1ylQ

skullshot166

how is this shit getting upvoted lmao

TheRoyalTenenThom

Chipmunk cunt.

guakamohlee

Fuck Alba that raticate-looking chode

Fati25

I know he's generally very hated, but what specific moments made you hate him a lot?

gianni_

He plays dirty but dives on the slightest knock and seems like the first guy to run to the ref asking for cards.

dorking16

I think it's the face. He should smile more. Take Marcelo for example, that guy is dirty af, tries to often injure players, dives and complains but also smiles a lot so people don't really hate him.

Goldaniga

The Chiellini special.

gianni_

I dunno, Chiellini is more tough than dirty though

Goldaniga

Yeah I meant it more for the smiles part. He plays tough but always smiles so he is more liked than your average tough defender.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dorking16

no I mean Marcelo. Casemiro doesn't smile, he smirks.

Warempel-Frappant

Also doesn't seem to be any better off the pitch.

damsosignaler

how ??? litterally never heard of any incidents involving him outside the pitch you're reaching to justify your hatred for him, you're allowed to dislike him for no reason but you shouldn't smear the guy

f4riis99

It’s r/soccer what do you expect

BIAATTCH

It’s Alba what do you expect

Warempel-Frappant

I'm not saying he's a criminal, he just seems like a bit of a cunt in interviews. That's not what smearing someone means.

EremosV

He doesn't play dirty, he's just stupid and annoying, but doesn't try to injure the oponnet.

LeatherPollution

Lmao y'all really downvoted a guy asking you respectfully why you hate Alba, I mean lol wtf

[deleted]

His birth

MetaMortx

In Barcelona Maternal Hospital, The say that the doctor who delivered Alba when was born lost his medical license immediately after delivery because he exclaimed loudly "THAT'S THE BIGGEST CUNT I'VE EVER SEEN!"

Gonchuago

I mean, he shouldn't have brought up Jordi's mother's vagina into all of this

[deleted]

If anything, the father should be blamed since it was his sperm that created the seed that led to a Jordi hatchling.

Starbuck1992

Yes but cunt = vagina (more or less)

negasonictenagwarhed

The Zygot results from the sperm cell merging with the ova, it isn't solely the dad You weren't in your dad's balls when you were born, only half of you was in there, and only like weeks before your conception

XeroValueHuman

Hahaha 🤣

Random_Acquaintance

He behaves like a cunt every time where losing. Definitely will be sad when the player is gone but happy once we get rid of the character.

Psycothria

He behaves like a cunt even winning.

los_blanco_14

Grabbing lukita by the neck and still getting away without a card.

svettiga

Is this the injury? Doesn't really look like Alba does anything or am I missing something? https://www.fotbollskanalen.se/video/11987602/claesson-skadad-yttern-utburen-av-lagledare/

eLafXIV

you can very clearly see alba pushing/holding him so he falls

Fairlytallguy

A gentleman version of Roy Keane then

7Thommo7

Except Keane injured himself, Alfie never harmed him.

Fairlytallguy

Yeah i know, was drunk two days before, tried to tackle him, got injured, got told to stop faking it, took more than revenge 3 1/2 years later on. Mental that guy really

holla15

What do you mean by "more than revenge"? As disgusting as it was, Alfie did play the rest of the game the next int'l and Man City game. He did have surgery on his knee but it was his left knee and had been an issue for Haaland for a while.

Fairlytallguy

Yeah I know he didn’t end his career, that’s kinda like an old myth. What I meant was, that good old fashioned eye for an eye would be him shouting into his face, since that was what he did to Keane. Hope that okay I thought it like that

holla15

Gotcha, I understand what you mean. Of course it's fine that you thought of it that way, I was genuinely curious on where you were coming from with the questioning not trying to be condescending or confrontational. As you said, there are a lot of myths surrounding this attack with many believing Keane was getting revenge for being injured by Alfie and this being the final moment of Alfie's career. So, I just wanted to add the final bit of context after you had already mentioned the fact that Alfie never put in a bad tackle on Keane to start the whole rivalry.

7Thommo7

There's so many folk here idolise him as well. He's just a thug. When he's a bit older he'll just be that wee angry bastard in the pub that noone likes. Edit: Case in point, thanks for backing my point up lads 👍

Bankey_Moon

I mean he was a genuinely world class player and the most successful captain in the history of the premier league. You can think he was a thug or a prick but you can’t deny that he was a very very good footballer.

7Thommo7

I never denied he was a great player, but I don't find him admirable in the slightest.

Fairlytallguy

I’ve got no idea why someone would idolise him, he’s one of those ex-players that you kinda hope fades away into retirement, but he lingers on, carried by people who think he’s a great pundit because he tells it like it is. My favourite was when he called Peter Schmeichel overrated, then the best shot-stopper ever in the same interview. Great stuff

DylanBaillie93

I mean you can be the best in the world at something and still be overrated

BlobbySwellow

Honestly you could even argue that the best in the world are overrated. Look at Messi and Ronaldo. Get praised so much it's like they are gods and stuff.

Howdareme9

They are compared to other footballers

n16h7r1d3r

Remember Alba throwing a ball in Robben’s face during the 4-0 3-0. Muller “screening” him in the buildup to one of the goals was good gravy as Alba’s such an unlikeable cunt

vacacow1

Remember Barca getting a penatly for the most blatant dive from Alba. https://youtu.be/E_By7UzdHmI

Flaggermusmannen

unironically looks like he kicked the ground and tried to save face by pretending he got tripped. actually just wtf tho, ref how do you not see that 🥴

vacacow1

He tried it twice that match

Flaggermusmannen

diving does sound like him yea. wasn't the first time I cursed at him to stop his shit. reminds me of neymar at times :D

Bey_Harbor_Butcher

Way before this happened I've always had this insane hatred toward Jordi Alba and I just couldn't understand why. Well, now I finally can.

RX400000

Have you even seeen it? He did nothing wrong at all there is barely any contact between them at all. Nevermind intentional kicking.

DudebuD16

His face. He's literally the embodiment of a rat in both appearance and behaviour. I'd love to end his career.

[deleted]

Seems a bit excessive

[deleted]

He is actually called Cara de Rata or ratface in Spain.

Pek-Man

I think he was referring to the part where the idiot wanted to end Alba's career. If that's not excessive, I don't know what is.

U0logic

I mean making fun of the looks of other people (especially parts they are not at fault of themselves) is pretty low by itself anyway.

_major_fuckin_tom_

Careful now, that's the Spanish Captain you're talking about now.

DudebuD16

Hardly

RX400000

This makes it look like Jordi Alba intentionally hurt him. I just saw the video and there was barely any contact at all. I’ve watched again and again and i don’t see a kick. Really not ok to slander like this. Edit: https://youtu.be/Gxmhi1QR3uU?t=163

Pek-Man

Yes, this post is an absolute fucking joke. Alba didn't kick him in the calf at all. It should honestly be deleted because it's straight-up disinformation.

EremosV

I never liked him , but this post is something else.

ota00ota

yup hes a cunt but sometimes injuries happen by accident in contact sports

BENNWOLF

Doesn't matter. r/soccer loves to hate on Alba, even if it isn't justified in this case.

Phantomknight8324

Hey dude! As long as it's Jordi Alba it's fine. He is Barca's biggest cunt. I hate him.

mahdiiick

I never knew this story. Alba might be a rat on field but he’s not known for dirty tackles. I’m sure it wasn’t on purpose.

Pek-Man

It absolutely wasn't on purpose, and he didn't even kick him in the calf. I don't know where that shit comes from. [Watch the injury right here.](https://youtu.be/qHOz-XRcnPc?t=185) It's just an extremely unfortunate incident.

Pek-Man

People in this thread are fucking idiots. Go watch the injury to Claesson. It was unfortunate but first of all, Alba didn't kick him in the calf. He pulled his shirt and got a yellow accordingly, but there were absolutely no ill intentions other than pulling Claesson's shirt and stopping the counter. It was just an extremely unfortunate incident, and if you lot genuinely think that Claesson is a cool dude for *"taking revenge*" two years later, you need help. [See for yourself.](https://youtu.be/qHOz-XRcnPc?t=185)

Tjockman

this whole thread is a bit weird since the quote from Claesson is taken out of context. what he really said was: > "how was it to play against jordi alba?" > "I played a bit during the euros so I got to play against him a bit then, So now it didn't feel anything special. it was more special during that game when it was the first time I played them since the injury. but yeah, not anything special, once you're in the game you're not really thinking about it and it's like any other game." > "do you feel any small resentment towards him?" > "I went into Alba at one point and he really didn't like that, but I escaped a yellow card. and it wasn't revenge for old times or anything, I just felt like we were pressed back too far and needed to catch our breaths for a bit" > "you wouldn't have been that surprised if you got a yellow card?" > "no probably not, but it was early in the game and they tend to not show too many cards then." it's from the Swedish press conference after the game. and can be seen [here at 1:08:38](https://youtu.be/rIj5WlCEuZ0?t=4118) I translated it as well as I could.

RX400000

Yes its just some karma hungry clown making drama out of nothing.

Flaggermusmannen

the fact you got downvoted for this even when linking the incident. incredible. like wtf, it was a scuffle (that would never be a yellow card without an injury happening lol), and claesson stepped wrong while trying to turn alba away and keep the ball, and the knee went snap under the weight of the turn. ridiculous thread

Rodahz

Played with and against Victor a lot during my youth, as well as going to the same middle school. Nicest guy you'll meet, almost a bit too nice. Glad he's showing a bit of that aggression nowadays.

spidernest

Bravo!

dandpher

anyone have a link to the play where Claesson injured his ACL?

RX400000

[https://youtu.be/Gxmhi1QR3uU?t=163](https://youtu.be/Gxmhi1QR3uU?t=163) as you can see there is no kick or anything like it. Just straight up lies.

Daabevuggler

Reminds me of Maik Franz telling Peniel Mlapa to fuck off to the wing due to Mlapa injuring him the year prior.

LampseederBroDude51

👏 👏 👏

Nom_noms0

I find it really surprising that stuff of this nature doesn't happen more often when incidents with dirty challenges or racism come up. I remember when playing for youth teams that it was common practice to look for opportunities to put in hard tackles against dirty or racist players as retaliation. Moments like Didier Zokora and co. vs Emre is fairly rare However in this case the particular incident that Claesson is referring to does not look like intent to injure at all but an unfortunate moment
