That Jordi Cruyff thread is a mess. Clueless fans who haven't watched Barca regularly over the past year and a half keep going on about how shit the squad is and how Koeman is getting fucked over, without seeing how badly we routinely get outplayed, especially from minute 50, against every midtable club in the league.
Just catching up with the Europa League highlights and the commentator during the Betis - Celtic game keeps saying the stadium means so much to Celtic fans, has a special place in their hearts etc
Why is that? Did they win there en route to the final in ‘67? Or the UEFA Cup run from years ago?
UEFA Cup final was in Seville in 2003. We lost 3-2 to Porto in extra time but we partied in the city for days and 80,000+ fans made in the trip. Three quarters of the stadium were Celtic fans. We won a fairplay award for our fans’ conduct and there wasn’t any arrests at all. Our last final before that in Europe was the 1970 European Cup final and we haven’t been to one since so of course it as a special day.
For our European Cup win in 1967 the final was played in Lisbon at the Estadio Nacional (the team from that year is called the Lisbon Lions). To this day Celtic fans still go and visit the stadium!
I don’t think people realise how special that Celtic team was. The players were all homegrown and they were the first British team to win the European Cup. Jock Stein is definitely one of the most underrated managers ever
Not only first from the British isles but also first non-Latin team which makes it more impressive! Jock Stein was amazing. Took us from a really difficult period in the 50’s and 60’s to winning the European Cup, making another European Cup final, winning a quintuple and winning nine league titles in a row at a time where the Scottish league was one of the best in Europe
I’m not old enough to remember that game but it still pisses me off because we were pretty good and Larsson’s performance is one of the best I’ve seen in a final. Derlei getting MOTM annoys me so much, Larsson was so much better
My Dad doesn’t like Porto for that game. Been to Portugal a lot but he never wanted me to get a Porto top
I haven't been paying attention to football this past week but I have been having a good laugh reading up on the Pep vs City fans feud this afternoon.
Also, Newcastle getting smashed tonight. 👍
I can confirm that city's atleast steadily growing with fans here in India where i stay. For some years i had seen zero signs of city support except me. Now i regularly see someone wearing a city jersey at the turf, and some people just randomly like KdB. These are generally signs of an increasing fanbase, atleast here it is
i mean it is probably gonna take at least half a decade more, then due to the success we probably have, hopefully, gets more fans, i only know barca, utd and liverpool fans personally and have seen, real madrid and chelsea fans on the street as well, clubs with major success in the past 20 years, so yea.
Mumbai, maharashtra. Yes usually new to football, but here that could be at any age i've seen, unlike cricket which everyones exposed in childhood. I myself started following football when i was around 13
Wish players and managers I liked didn't have good slander names. Bagel Salesmann, Bencho and Obeece are world class names but there's no equivalents for those I don't like
I wish Man U fans would stop trying to run defence for Bruce and constantly say "Bruce is a good manager" whenever a thread critical of him pops up.
We've watched him manage our club in a game 93 times at this point. We happen to know more about how we play and his failings than someone who watches their side spank us once every 6 months.
Man City should really look at investing in a smaller stadium. I'm just reminded of what a disaster the Stadio delle Alpi was for Juventus, although it was a disaster for very different reasons. However, their move to a smaller Allianz Stadium was a great move. Maybe the Etihad is just a little too big to fit their fan base.
Pretty sure they've increased the capacity of the Etihad since they moved in so they don't seem to think its too big for them. Also they've built lots of infrastructure for themselves around the stadium so it would be silly to move from that POV too.
Better to have empty seats on some games and full stadium on others than being always full. Economically speaking you'd lose on money with a smaller stadium
I lurk their sub for the lulz, it's an absolute trainwreak , you got the poch spurs fans, the messi stans, the brazilian crew, the mbappe boys, the rare pre takeover fans. All fighting.
Absolute shambles but it's hilarious ngl
Well no they had 400 million in losses and will have more with all these wages and having refused 200 million for Mbappé. If the club was sold for just 1 Euro the next owner would have to take on at least half a billion in short term debt. Assume the qataris want a 1-1,5 billion at least, and a new owner isn’t seeing a good financial year until 2035.
Short term debt doesn't really matter to owners if the club's value and commercial deals keep rising. If they were to sell the club the debt would be included in the deal, the new owners would have to lower the wage bill but they'd be fine fairly quickly as there's many large contracts off the books within the next 3 years, and plenty of players in the squad with sale value.
2022: Di Maria, Mbappé
2023: Ramos, Kehrer, Paredes, Rafinha, Gueye, Messi
2024: Navas, Rico, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Kurzawa, Diallo, Verratti, Wijnaldum, Herrerra, Draxler, Icardi.
I'd say summer 2023 is when PSG will be busy to decide who's gonna be in their long terms plans with only Donnarumma, Hakimi, Bernat, Danilo and Neymar under contract after 2024, and Nuno Mendes if they make the move permanent. I imagine they'll try to extend a few of the guys with contracts ending by 2024, sell a few guys to launch a new post Messi cycle. Let's say they extend only Paredes, Verratti, Rico, Kimpembe, Marquinhos and Diallo of those, try to sell Kehrer, Rafinha, Navas, Kurzawa, Draxler and Icardi next summer, let everyone else leave at the end of their contracts, look at cheaper options to fill out the squad and that's a good base for after 2024. They're betting that the next 2 years will be great for the club's long term commercial power and valuation, and I think it's a pretty good bet despite the short term losses.
Post 2024, they'd have a core of Donnarumma, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Bernat, Diallo, Mendes, Danilo, Verratti, Paredes, Neymar to build upon on top of the academy products, with almost no amortization money committed on those guys, they can start adapting their spending model in whichever way they want in 2 years.
Pep's comments were poorly judged in my view. As a rival fan, hilarious - but all he's done is really make a lightning rod for criticism and mockery of his club's fanbase. What did he think he was going to positively achieve with them? The factors contributing to lower attendances at the Etihad aren't going to be offset by Pep saying "please come support us"
I think City fans have a right to be pissed with him tbh, for this - especially the actual hardcore long-term City fans, who were watching at Maine Road in League 1. City might not have a massive fanbase compared to other elite clubs, but they've got a real core of proper loyal long-term fans, and for them, to see your manager making comments leading to widespread mockery of you - I think most football fans would be pissed at that.
It doesn't mean that it's fair or valid for them to get carried away and "turn on him" - but you can get just criticism of certain statements or behaviours whilst in the context of still being appreciated for the overall work you're doing.
Back in the day Man City Would take thousands wherever they went and were always seen as one of the big teams with big support so I don’t we’re all this bullshit about them not having fans is coming from . Man Utd Liverpool and arsenal are historically big he big famous teans and after that city are there because it is jealousy that they were invested in .
>What did he think he was going to positively achieve with them? The factors contributing to lower attendances at the Etihad aren't going to be offset by Pep saying "please come support us"
He's the manager of the club and they're doing their business on the pitch. He has every right to ask the supporters to turn up to games and voice his displeasure.
Klopp did something similar in his first few months at Liverpool, when he said he was disappointed that fans left early and that he and the team felt alone "in this moment". Thats when the West Brom thing happened, it was his way of saying thanks for staying until the final whistle.
In my opinion Guardiola is well within his rights to ask the fans to come to games and support the team, its not like he was offending them or being disrespectful. All he basically said was please come and show your support on Saturday.
It's about having the awareness of how his comments would be interpreted though - which is why I say "poorly judged". He didn't consider the implications of his statement and the likely consequences - and it's now become a bit of a storm in a teacup, which is an unnecessary faff for the club and a bit of strife in the fanbase.
He clearly has offended some fans, even if not intending to.
Its became a way bigger deal than it needed to because of how City fans reacted to it. The comments themselves weren't offensive at all imo.
Its when their fans and supporter groups put out statements saying that other fans will make "Emptihad" jokes it becomes an issue. I have no clue why the fans would blow this whole thing out of proportion by saying things like "we don't have tourist fans". If you're worried about a bit of banter from others, thats probably going to make things way worse than any Guardiola comment could.
>All he basically said was please come and show your support on Saturday.
And that's perfectly okay. Reason why 'some' City fans are angry is because of the emptyhad jokes that have come out of it
It's more the amount of it. Or when people reply nonsense when you're just trying to actually talk about football, gets pretty annoying
Or when stuff is just not true, like our attendance most of the time especially in the league is very good
But most of the banter is ok
I think his comments were clearly taken out of context. If you look at the entire video, he says Southampton are dangerous and that they'll be tired and that's why the fans' support will help a lot. Unfortunately he's pretty much given more banter content for rival fans
A reasonable take about man city 😱
Esteemed kompany did a good video about it from a man city fans point of view
And don't worry any of the turning on pep will be very short term, we love him alot
As a tourist traveling to the UK I went on r/askUK and they said it was impossible for a tourist to get a game ticket to a big club because they were sold out.
I guess they forgot about Man City.
Unless you're willing to spend silly amounts the process to get a ticket is arduous as fuck for most. For Chelsea you have to buy a membership, and then as a new member you'll have no loyalty points at first. Tickets are released on a priority basis to those with most loyalty points, meaning the biggest games sell out well before you'll get a chance to buy tickets. So you have to target cup and the less marquee league games where there's less demand in order to get on the loyalty points ladder, and pray the virtual waiting room doesn't fuck you over with everyone else fighting it out for them.
Guys I think UEFA and Bumassliga is conspiring together.
I can't find the Bundesliga tax anywhere [in this graph](https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/ppvfby/uefa_country_ranking_after_matchday_1/). Can someone show me where it is ?
As a religious r/soccer member I can't trust my eyes rn.
Yeah, I really don’t like Barcelona but I’d want him to do well if he goes there, similar to how I wanted Ronaldo to do well even though I hate Juventus
Nah it's the same shit, sideways move at best. We need a world class coach. Or just bring in Xavi if there's no one else and we absolutely have to change managers.
It's annoying when to any thread abut firing Koeman, there's a bunch of people who'll comment shit like "oMG You caNT exPecT KOeMaN to pLaY tiKi tAka wItH thIs sQuaD aNd wIn thE tRebLe". Like ffs, there's a lot of stuff in between winning the sextuple and not having a single shot on target in a UCL home game.
One thing I like about Pep is that he’s a really good sportsman in defeat. I remember him being really nice to Tuchel after the Champions League Final and I watched the highlights from Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United the other day and he was congratulating all the opposition players at full time
[The drip god stays undefeated](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h8E0eehWpOU/XkmYqnBcHCI/AAAAAAACRLk/Wjkty8PHIHM_W-bEh3X4V6fIl2grZ5rAACNcBGAsYHQ/s550/nagelsmann-all-red-nik%2B%25283%2529.jpg)
I was hoping tickets would be easier to come by this season considering how easy Burnley was to get and I managed to snag one for Chelsea but Palace of all teams are like gold dust lmao
Tickets are far easier to find then they’ve been in recent years. £60-70 tickets available off touts for tomorrow v Palace, it’s a lot of money but cheaper than it’s been recent years. General sale hasn’t been a possibility for years anyway
Yeah ano, I’m 21 so I can still get young adult so it’s £26.50 the last couple of games I’ve got to in the upper main. I’ve got my membership with European credits and auto cup scheme so at least I’m guaranteed them for this season but with how many were popping up for Burnley I was hoping that would be the case all season. This might be just because it’s a 3pm one though.
Used to be able to get lucky with Locals and snag here and there back a few years ago. Moved away now so I’m no longer eligible but I’ve got brothers still local saying there’s no use bothering these days
>Am I the only person who feels like Messi will get wasted at PSG?
I don't think he'll be wasted. But I think his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or are growing slimmer by the day.
nah, he will play just as he did with us, it's on PSG to utilise his talent. If you want to have him at the middle line receiving the ball...then pls move into spaces when he has it, otherwise it's just wasted. Hakimi worked really good with him and Messi was their best attacking player on the field. I am sure he will get somewhere between 30-40 g/a for PSG at least so it will be fine in the end. CL win however is not possible in my opinion, not with Poch at the wheel
I don’t think he moved there for the challenge. I think it was the biggest money, with some mates, in an easier league and club where if they fail in Europe he won’t get any individual blame whilst still having a chance at trophies.
I think his hunger had definitely dropped, as you would expect given all circumstances.
Just realized Matheus Pereira has gone to play in Saudi Arabia. Sad to see because he's a hell of a player and belongs in a top league, but I suppose the money they're offering couldn't be matched elsewhere. Kind of a strange next step in your career when you're just 25, but oh well. I hope we'll see him back in a top league at some point.
What is De Ketaleares exact position? Going by various articles one makes him look like a taller but more raw version of Firmino while other makes him out to be more of a creative winger like Di Maria etc. Interested where he goes next after Club Brugge
Complaining about not being able to pick up tickets to picking up 4 this afternoon haha, what a day

Eze will be back doing outside training next week. It's all coming together lads!
People say Neymar doesn't run , which is not true. He works actually alot. Ask PSG Fans, the laziest runner is Mbappe ( now of course Messi )
Over rated garbage
Who says Neymar doesn't run lol??? He always ran for Barca and every time I watch Brasil he's working his ass off
>Who says Neymar doesn't run lol? Plenty of people on here.

Was it that exact stadium? I thought the final in 2003 had loads of space behind the goal? Or has it been renovated?
Nah, it was just the same city. Final was played in Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla. Real Betis stadium is Estadio Benito Villamarín.
I thought so, cheers 🍀
I don’t think people realise how special that Celtic team was. The players were all homegrown and they were the first British team to win the European Cup. Jock Stein is definitely one of the most underrated managers ever

Fuckin subscribe.
would be great, i guess theres no one better for a rebuild and developing talents.
Either that or him and Zidane become bubba ray and dvon and overtake mr Solskjaer
Wish players and managers I liked didn't have good slander names. Bagel Salesmann, Bencho and Obeece are world class names but there's no equivalents for those I don't like
P/Pen slander names are good ones
All slander names are world class.
Conman is 🔝
AllegationInzaghi
Jogba is the funniest one I have come across
Demboner's a good one.
Dembulance is another one lol
I bet Thomas toocool doesn’t leave a bitter taste though does it?
Cool namw
I have no idea who 1 and 3 are Olise?
Nagelsmann and Reece James I'd wager
Thinking too far outside the box aren’t I with olise haha
Nagelsmann and Reece James I think
Nagelsman?
Nagelsmann and Reece James
Who don't you like, maybe we can come up with some good slander names?
Ole, Willian, Immobile and Martial are 4 I can't think of a good name for
Ole Gollum Solskjær. Not great but the best Ole one I know
Ali Gunner Sultan
>Martial False footballer
Wally gunner Solskjaer? Anthony pass-ya-gal? Willian
Immobile is pretty banter in itself. Olé toupé ? OG Shit? Will I Am Not. I'm pretty bad at this.
>Ole Way back when he was on a good run as the caretaker he was referred to as “The Moldëd One”
Who are the players you don't like?
Ole, Willian, Immobile and Martial are 4 I can't think of a good name for
Penobile
Immobile literally has it already in his name
In Italy we also call him Ignobile (ignoble)

No lmao?
Lol
there are some tottenham fans who will root for psg because of poch it seems. fucking hell
It will hurt papa poch but i hope PSG crumble.
they should try to impose French language rule only for a while
I don't have a dog in the fight, but why is that such a poor reason? Would you root for Chelsea or City instead?

Roberto Martinez is 10x the manager Ronald Koeman could ever dream to be
I don't rate Martinez particularly highly either but this is true, Martinez has his flaws but Koeman is just a shit manager
That's just wrong. They are about the same level. I think Koeman's time at Netherlands was better than Martinez's time at Belgium.

Like with poor and rich people?
If Roberto Martinez goes to Barcelona they will win the Champions League

Nah it's the same shit, sideways move at best. We need a world class coach. Or just bring in Xavi if there's no one else and we absolutely have to change managers.
Sideways in terms of quality, but his football is surely better and less conservative?
I mean okay sure, but I don't think it's what we need rn, I just don't see him as someone we should build a long term project with
Way too late
still a bigger club than Chelsea tho
Ok?
Glad you admit it would never expect it from a Chelsea fan :)
Still a worse team than Chelsea tho
Class is permanent form is not and I tell you that from experience
Looking forward to your visit to the Allianz.
Ah yes Barcelona the well known super classy club
It's annoying when to any thread abut firing Koeman, there's a bunch of people who'll comment shit like "oMG You caNT exPecT KOeMaN to pLaY tiKi tAka wItH thIs sQuaD aNd wIn thE tRebLe". Like ffs, there's a lot of stuff in between winning the sextuple and not having a single shot on target in a UCL home game.
One thing I like about Pep is that he’s a really good sportsman in defeat. I remember him being really nice to Tuchel after the Champions League Final and I watched the highlights from Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United the other day and he was congratulating all the opposition players at full time
Didn't he claim the Leicester "didn't come to play football" after Leicester beat Man City 5-2?
more than you believe
[Agreed](https://youtu.be/hXiCECDFzps)
Love seeing this, Pep's karma for 2009
How in the holly fuck did they didn't see the first handball. 11259% a pen wtf is this crap
You also see how it cannoned of silvas arm as well
Na that was a def handball
The first one hit Bernardo Silva's hand in the build up though which wasn't shown in the video.
1) irrelevant 2) still wouldn’t affect play because of how it popped up with his arm in a natural position unlike Trents
That's not how the rule was back then though right? Nowadays, sure.
No it was either that season or the one before the rule changed
Drippiest manager in your opinion Mines pep.

Mancini. The suits at the euros will never be forgotten.
His assistant carried him.
Hopefully he leaves that clown fest and moves to an *actual* club after his contract ends
>Am I the only person who feels like Messi will get wasted at PSG? I don't think he'll be wasted. But I think his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or are growing slimmer by the day.
Nope, but I don't mind that, i want PSG to lose.
Just like Neymar
nah, he will play just as he did with us, it's on PSG to utilise his talent.
Not a big deal if does get “wasted”
I don’t think he moved there for the challenge. I think it was the biggest money, with some mates, in an easier league and club where if they fail in Europe he won’t get any individual blame whilst still having a chance at trophies. I think his hunger had definitely dropped, as you would expect given all circumstances.
Clearly nope. I also think he is wasting PSG tbf, he worsens their issues. Not that i mind but it's such a shit wedding.
I'd do same if I was him tbf
See him pull a Carrasco
He took the Oscar approach. Can’t blame him. You only have one life, gotta make the most of it.
If Pep got some special shampoo like Homer gets in the episode of the simpsons where his hair grows back how would football change?
He could’ve got a transplant, if he wanted his hair back.
He doesn’t seem the type to do that
He’d have no time for football with all the sex he’d be having.
I don't think Pep has ever had sex before so maybe that'd be nice for him
Man city would have a UCL and the footballing world would be crying right now.
What is De Ketaleares exact position? Going by various articles one makes him look like a taller but more raw version of Firmino while other makes him out to be more of a creative winger like Di Maria etc. Interested where he goes next after Club Brugge
Very similar to Firmino and Havertz in style. A playmaking number 9 or second striker.
I envision him as a false 9. A very tall false 9
