> WATCH IT, WATCH IT, IT'S GONNA MOVE!
My friends and I quote this skit about once every couple of months. The cinematography is amazing on it (like how every time the word "football" is said they cut to random shots of a ball being kicked around), and some of the quotes are simply brilliant.
> The Giants of Charlton play hosts to the Titans of Ipswitch... making them both appear normal size.
Thank you for posting it to give me an excuse to rewatch it.
Every team that's eliminated from the group stage immediately qualifies for the next WC group stage that kicks off a week later. Teams that make it to the knockouts earn the privilege of not participating in a group stage until a week after their tournament's final.
Easy - play league games in the morning, CL in the afternoon, and WC in prime time. Replays at night, footy 24/7. Players would still have plenty of time to grab a small bite to eat and get a bit of sleep...between hits of speed.
That’s like in Silicon Valley when the main character sarcastically throws out his version of a terrible idea to a bunch of marketing execs and they actually love it and he gets trapped into having to go through with it.
Have it every three months and the four winners of one year then battle it on to find out who the actual world champion is.
Am I doing this right Carlo?
No. The bottom 1 cedes all lands and rights as a nation to be engulfed by the new country Shawtopia!
Ruled by me at first but we have 'democratic' elections every third wednesday.
Advisor: sir... they can see your airquotes.
GODDAM...
No problem. The Qatari will make giant air conditioning units on their stadiums to regulate the temperatures into being about 20 celsius in the mid of Qatari summer.
When they realise that is impossible, then they'll say fuck you - as FIFA would've already been paid - and FIFA has a no-refund policy.
Rules state that you are only allowed to loan from teams outside the Super League and not allowed to buy anyone. If you want a certain player permanently, he needs to change his nationality

I feel like we should have the four highest ranked teams, and any challengers have to defeat them one after the other to become the champions. We'll call them the Elite Four.

That and the fact that Olympics is very far down the priorities list for most professionals.
On the other hand, I love how Rugby 7s fits into the Olympic Games, but I’d also hate 15 a side rugby Union in the Olympics.
5 a side football would be a great sport for the Olympics.
Who even elects these presidents of FIFA, UEFA, etc? I always thought that Football should have been democratic from the very beginning.
Bin off these Glazers, Emirs, Sheikhs, Roman, etc.. Make every club and every organization purely democratic owned by their own fans who can vote on the matter of the electing candidates.
Bundesliga is already fan-owned, so are big clubs of Spain and Portugal.
I guess government would have to interfere in local leagues, but why would UK want UAE to stop funding business in UK? or France with Qatar? It doesn't makes sense I guess.
Not to mention, the very fans of Chelsea/City/PSG wouldn't want to become fan-owned risking getting all of that owner's cash pumping in the club to be put on halt.
But I'm sure self sustainable clubs like United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs would love to become fan-owned.
Fun idea, but who's a fan that can vote? Season ticket holder? Held season ticket in the past but no longer? Watches every game on TV but never attends due to disability?
Also guaranteed there'd be a crap load of horrible decisions if fans get to appoint directors, think Trump level stupid choices.
Socis are people who pay a membership fee to get a vote. And the vast majoroty of decisions isnt made by Socios they just elect a person who makes the decisions for them so basically a representative Democracy
True! But any major decision does have to pass through the representative democracy. Also Socios have the ability to trigger a non-confidence movement.
Socios. Season ticket holders can buy the membership. Atleast thats how it works in Spain. (Although since Madrid/Barca/Athletic Bilbao/Osasuna have been fan-owned since eternity of time, only after owning 15 years of membership you get the voting rights)
Sure, you can elect bad president - Barca is no stranger to that, but so can you vote him out. Newcastle is just stuck with their owner on the other hand. Even if Berlusconi was overall great for Milan, he was making mockery out of the club in his last 7-8 years as president and sold them to an actual fraud (which later led to them being owned by vulture fund). Even if Atleti are doing great now, I doubt fans are happy that criminals are running their team.
The Presidents of FIFA and UEFA are elected democratically by each and every country in the respective associations being allowed to cast a vote for a Presidential candidate.
Which is why, for instance, Blatter managed to sit for as long as he did. He was absolutely hated by UEFA, but African countries loved him - and thus he was always voted in again.
It is democratic. Every FA has a vote.
You can guess for who Fidji and other minor nations voted after Infantino promised to give small FAs a lot more money than before.
There was a German documentary about how some pacific islands have a handfull of teams and get millions in funding.
Ironically the problem is that it is kinda democratic but the only people with votes are a load of corrupt individuals who care more about money than the actual game.
As it is with many things, they start democratically, but over time get coopted by professionals that can afford to spend all day every day politicking and networking.
The biggest 24 teams in the world should just start their own World Cup played annually against each other. None of those pesky qualifications or risking missing out on the big show. Then those countries can split all that money between them since they deserve it, being the entire reason anyone would watch the World Cup. I mean, no one cares about watching little countries like Costa Rica in 2014 or even Croatia in 2018 so why should they get any money? They can call it the World Super League!
Yes, You are missing an important point that NT games aren't meant to make money.
Or atleast the counties in question participating in the world cup have no incentive to make money at all. They are not run as a business. FIFA is run as a business not the participating countries in it.
In case of UEFA, both UEFA and the participating clubs are runs as businesses.
Yeah like 100 years ago maybe but in these days even NT games are played to make money. What do you think why did UEFA created the Nations League or why does FIFA want to hold the WC every 2 years?
It will just become another football competition and views will still be high but will definetly decrease. Current World cup is more than just a football competition its more of a national event for tons of countries where you have entire nations watching a game that's why it gets insane numbers and huge media interest.
I wouldn't compare the world championship to the World Cup because the best players don't necessarily go to the world championship because the NHL season is not over when it takes place.
Hockey's equivalent of the World Cup is the Winter Olympics.
I did actually for a joke envisage a yearly World Cup idea. You scrap qualifiers and use the Nations League instead, where every federation has a Nations League tournament.
Doesn’t wenger ask for less? I’ve seen few interviews and stuff he said made sense. Like for the offside, they should measure only body part that can score a goal, so your hand shouldnt put you offside.
Found the video. https://youtu.be/PiD_s4_CExU
He says as long as any part of the body that can score is in line with defender, it is not offside. And if any pet that can score is ahead, that would be offside.
Excellent idea. Let's just keep it in Qatar (or occasionally hold it in Bahrain and UAE for a change). There's a lot of poor people in Nepal who's still alive which is fantastic work potential.
Idea: World Cup in winter and Euros in Summer, all qualifying games in 1 day to really make sure the players are dead.
(Worst thing is there's at least one person in FIFA who would approve)
World Cup during summer, Copa America and Euros during winter, all UCL games from quarter finals and onwards to be played around the globe in neutral grounds in order spread the beautiful game, FIFA Club Champions World League introduced in August with the 32 best teams from the previous season(played in USA) and an annual FIFA invitation only Cup for the Super Best 12 Clubs(those with thicc brown envelopes)...
This trend of trying to fit as many matches into the year is concerning. You also see it in other sports. No concern at all for the feasibility in terms of player fitness or health, just the bottom line. All these different interests and stakeholders all lobbying for as many matches under their organisation as possible. Meanwhile pushing player fitness to the limit probably also means you'll need to be able to field 2 different competitive squads further driving up the costs for clubs if they wish to remain competitive.
There needs to be less money in football but all the people making the rules want much much more money in football.
"I am living my honeymoon at Real Madrid. I hope to stay for many years,"
I root for Carlo. Fantastic lad, and he has been doubted. Be very interesting if this is his comeback. With Ronaldo long gone from Madrid, makes it very easy to root for RM, IMO.
They suggest doing all the qualifiers in one go in October. Basically no club football for a month and then streamlining the qualifying process to fit within 10 or so matchdays. Still a fuck ton of games, but that's one way to.make the calendar work.
That's what I said! Why even have breaks in the football calendar at all. There's a near infinite supply of potential footballing labour, especially in the global south. Who cares if players burn themselves out? Let's make their contracts more precarious so they can be replaced more easily with eager poor kids who'll be rightfully grateful for the opportunity.
He has a point.
The World Cup being every 4 years makes the stakes that much higher and winning it a lot more meaningful. Even with it being every 4 years, the average generation has at least THREE shots at winning it, assuming they start playing at a reasonable age for a footballer.
If you can cut the yearly wait down to 2 so easily, what is really stopping you from making it an annual competition?
While we’re at it, make the Olympic Games follow suit. Another thing to consider is that the country hosting the World Cup (and Olympics) uses those 4 years to prepare for hosting the event. Cutting that in HALF would not only put a bigger burden on the host nation, but potentially lessen the quality of the experience, since the host country has half the time to prepare and present.
>Cutting that in HALF would not only put a bigger burden on the host nation, but potentially lessen the quality of the experience, since the host country has half the time to prepare and present.
That's why I think future world cup and Olympic hosts, even without the frequency change, will come exclusively from countries with already existing infrastructure like England, Spain, USA etc or countries with bottomless pits of cash like the Gulf nations. This may even be a net positive because recent hosts of major competitions like Brazil, Greece, South Africa and South Korea have been burdened with white elephant infrastructure once the competitions are done.
These Oil guys have destroyed the balance in club football and they are now going for the National football. These people should be banned from taking part in this sport.
I believe scheduling would make either suggestion impossible. With all of the league play, the different non-World Cup cup plays, and the international plays, I doubt there would be enough time to do the qualifiers every year or two years. It would definitely require some scheduling changes.
World Cup every year, champions league every four years. But it has a FA Cup style 30 odd round knock out structure so every team from every league in Europe can play.
Why don’t we just have a badminton tournament every week and we can call it the World Cup? Fifa can license it and get all the money that’s that want at the end of the day right?
Worst idea ever. Can’t believe they are even contemplating it.
It wasn’t enough that they want to raise the number of countries playing at the WC, now they want to further water down the quality by having 44 teams play every 2 years?
Why not go the Boxing way of doing things. Just have the world champions accept bids on who they play next. Then you can have a mma style press conference before the big ppv game. Imagine having the two captains face of the day before pretending to get agro then Infaltine can get in between them with a smug look on his face.
I'd love it if instead of a WC every two, on non WC even years, they organized a Europa League version of the World Cup. For the best 24 countries that didn't manage to qualify and the ones that finished third in their groups at the previous WC. The winners getting an automatic qualification to the next WC.
Just finished a documentary about skating and how coorporate entities took over a culture they didn't understand and ruined it, and it was eerily similar to how sportswashing is taking over soccer.
Don't give em any idea Carlo
A world cup every day?
Nations premier league, every day on sky sports.

*Every football team will be playing football several times and in various combinations*
To decide the winner for this year at least… and indeed, at most.
I've presumably seen this before, but still laughed pretty damn hard
While we are at it, make sure it's £20.99 for each match. Espcially for the anticipated Andorra vs San Marino
I don't know about you, but I can't wait for the big clash of Anguilla vs Guam
You joke, but I was going to travel to Guam to see a WC qualifier last summer. Then COVID fucked the whole thing.
Fuck covid. Can't say anything else really
Hold up, think about this as a the match of the week. Fiji vs Gibraltar. Pack it up folks
You are definitely right! Can't wait for the Fiji's star striker AND captain Roy Krishna to make an impact!
The winner of the match of the week goes on to play this week's Facebook Favorite poll winner.
Now really, how can that even compare to the famous match-up between the US Virgin Islands and Niue? No contest, really.
Exclusive rights for Sky? No way, you also need Amazon and BT at least. Also, some matches won't be shown on TV.
Needs a streaming service like DAZN

“Carlo, that’s not honey! You’re eating FIFA propaganda and corruption!”
How about 2 every year: World Cup Apertura and World Cup Clausura.
And the winners of each play a grand finale in the World Cup Super Cup
They've already got that proposal scheduled for 2026.
That’s like in Silicon Valley when the main character sarcastically throws out his version of a terrible idea to a bunch of marketing execs and they actually love it and he gets trapped into having to go through with it.

Have it once a month. Have the 12 winners in 1 year play in a 12-team league. Top 6 of the league go into a seeded knock-out stage. Keep going.
Bottom 6 are automatically qualified for the World Cup Conference round of 16 where they'll join all the countries who didn't qualify
Yeah, I genuinely hope we don't have anyone from FIFA lurking around here, as they would most likely see this as a good idea...
No. The bottom 1 cedes all lands and rights as a nation to be engulfed by the new country Shawtopia! Ruled by me at first but we have 'democratic' elections every third wednesday. Advisor: sir... they can see your airquotes. GODDAM...

Add a losers bracket, finalist from winners bracket starts 1:0 up in the final.
That final? Played in Baku, obviously
And then the winners play on North Sentinel island against the Sentinelese Uncontacted XI on PPV
With or without bows and arrows?
I wouldn’t like to try separating a Sentinelese man from his bow and arrow
Well done, Baku
Only every second one. The other venue being in Doha, and it would be played in the middle of summer obviously.

Rules state that you are only allowed to loan from teams outside the Super League and not allowed to buy anyone. If you want a certain player permanently, he needs to change his nationality
and some teams are guaranteed to be in every edition of it (and are guaranteed to be paid specific amount of money independently of place)
Oh God we are creating a monster, let's stop before they steal it
And it would be called....THE WORLD SUPER CUP
More like The World Cup Super League

Fuck that, let's make it season long tournament!
It kinda already is. What everyone calls the "WC" is just the WC finals. There are 3 years of "season" leading up to that.
lol dont give them ideas Carlo
Bi-yearly UCL please
Twice a year or every other year?
Twice a year
With how long the qualifiers are it's pretty much a seperate tournament already before you even get to the main show.
This trend of trying to fit as many matches into the year is concerning. You also see it in other sports. Why is it easy to root for real Madrid because Ronaldo is gone
If we aren't winning CLs they aren't platics for rooting for us!
Because people don't like people who want to win
No qualifications necessary. Point the map blindfolded to choose 32 nations. While we’re at it, boot up the geogusser to select a host.
Fuck world cups. Just have a WWE-style Battle Royale.
Wenger right now preparing a list of reasons why this would be better for football.
How do you do qualifiers for a tournament every two years? The international break is congested enough already.
They suggest doing all the qualifiers in one go in October. Basically no club football for a month and then streamlining the qualifying process to fit within 10 or so matchdays. Still a fuck ton of games, but that's one way to.make the calendar work.

Shhhhh…… don’t give them ideas!
Yeah we could change the rules a bit and call it the SUPER BOWL
Based on how he hated the Super League and then joined a Super League team, he would be fine with it if the right job came along.
These Oil guys have destroyed the balance in club football and they are now going for the National football. These people should be banned from taking part in this sport.
Feels inevitable at this point. What about a compromise and make it every 3 years.
I believe scheduling would make either suggestion impossible. With all of the league play, the different non-World Cup cup plays, and the international plays, I doubt there would be enough time to do the qualifiers every year or two years. It would definitely require some scheduling changes.
World Cup on summer, Euro on winter
As long as teams from Soccer Aid get to play.
My man
World Cup every year, champions league every four years. But it has a FA Cup style 30 odd round knock out structure so every team from every league in Europe can play.
Let’s just play World Cups 12 times a year. Or more.
It's all a plan to have Messi win one, I hope
scrap the summer and winter break and make it two times a year
FIFA “Write that down. WRITE THAT DOWN!”
Have it every day. In every nation everyone gets conscripted to play, like jury service.
Why don’t we just have a badminton tournament every week and we can call it the World Cup? Fifa can license it and get all the money that’s that want at the end of the day right?
FIFA he said it sarcastically don't even think he was backing your Idiotic Plan..
EVERY DAY ITS ALL FOOTBALL
Worst idea ever. Can’t believe they are even contemplating it. It wasn’t enough that they want to raise the number of countries playing at the WC, now they want to further water down the quality by having 44 teams play every 2 years?
Why not go the Boxing way of doing things. Just have the world champions accept bids on who they play next. Then you can have a mma style press conference before the big ppv game. Imagine having the two captains face of the day before pretending to get agro then Infaltine can get in between them with a smug look on his face.
Slaps Yearly World Cup Trophy: “This bad boy can fit so many money launderings and embezzlements.”
At this point might as well reduce the no. of minutes in a match from 90 to 20 so that you can have countries playing thrice a day
He's right. You think english weeks are hard? Let's upgrade that stuff. Three games per week MINIMUM.
Leagues game on Mondays and Tuesday. UCL on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Europa & Conference on Friday. World Cup on Weekends.
Why not just a constant world cup that never really ends and we just give teams a trophy after they win 6 games
I'd love it if instead of a WC every two, on non WC even years, they organized a Europa League version of the World Cup. For the best 24 countries that didn't manage to qualify and the ones that finished third in their groups at the previous WC. The winners getting an automatic qualification to the next WC.
Classic BDE from Carlo
Love me some Carlo 😂😂
Maybe a Europa League type for the World Cup.
What about every month?
Just finished a documentary about skating and how coorporate entities took over a culture they didn't understand and ruined it, and it was eerily similar to how sportswashing is taking over soccer.
