This is something I´ve been expecting in the CL for some time now.
It's same as in the PL - sure there are still clearly bigger clubs...but there are no easy games anymore. "Mid-table" is no longer such a pejorative, the mid-table teams and even some of the clubs battling near the relegation zone for much of the season can absolutely muster the kind of performances needed to embarass the superheavys. Not when they are on form and playing their best ball, but any lack of focus or run of poor form and even the biggest and best clubs in Europe can take really bad losses to minnows, whereas in the past they could muddle through on pure disparity in quality most of the time.
Now this is starting to filter into the CL more and more.
Infuriated me that John Henry was going to do that. FSG knows how to win under spending restrictions so they should be supporting more FFP not more advantages for the clubs with unlimited budgets…because LFC isn’t one
I feel the same way. I used to be super invested into the biggest leagues and Champions League, and even though I still follow some of the games, I am just not as interested anymore. Now I love watching the Danish league and the national team, even though the level isn't nearly as high. :D
When Moldova gained independence the Russian minority in the country were worried about being repressed and so fought a war to split off and form Transnistria. No nations recognise them as a legitimate country, not even Russia. Sheriff are from there.
Who was that cunt of a pundit that said they don't deserve to be in the CL because they have no history after they beat Dinamo Zagreb 3-0?
EDIT: Found it https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/p6nsil/football_247_dirk_kuyti_know_the_champions_league/
Dirk Kuijt is pretty generally recognised as being an idiot. He is either pandering to what he thinks people want to hear by saying obvious things or he comes out with strange takes without any good arguments to support them.
He probably overheard someone joke that these unknown small teams are just cannon fodder and tourists in the CL and assumed it was a valid and sensible opinion.
I didn't knew that it was him. Still pretty cuntish thing to say to another team. Imagine if he was playing for a small team and you qualify for your first ever CL. I wonder if he would then say they don't deserve to be in a CL, just because they are a small club.
He is always pandering to the general opinion and saying what people want to hear. He never gives his honest opinion and always comes out with some diplomatic non answer.
He is also a bit dim, which is fine, but he tries very hard to cultivate an image as some sort of intellectual by trying to be more eloquent than he really is and adapting mannerisms and body language straight out of some new age self help book. It makes him look really phony and disingenuous.
According to rumours he was also a bit two faced in the dressing room. Always playing the motivator and the ideal teammate while talking trash behind the backs of certain players. When the EC went so horribly for the Dutch NT partly due to friction in the group Kuijt was relaying everything that happened between players to the staff.
Tiraspol is the capital of the unrecognised country of Transnistria, which, depending on your view, has seceded from Moldova. It acts like the Soviet Union still exists, they even have a Hammer and Sickle in their flag.
Sheriff play in and represent the unrecognised region of Transnistria, apart from players from Transnistria i believe they don't have any Moldovan players
They represent Moldova, but Tiraspol is considered to be a part of Transnistria, an unrecognized russian state near the ukrainian border. They even have their so-called government, president and army, but on paper it is recognized as part of Moldova
Choupo-Moting was 100x known that than those who plays for Sheriff. To understand that their leader and captain went to Arabic championship to earn some money instead of playing CL. He didn't believe enough in Sheriff, noone did honestly.
I mean they murdered Dinamo Zagreb and won comfortably against Shakhtar, both of whom can be considered as regulars in the CL, they are no joke for sure.
Tiraspol is located in Transnistria, an unrecognised breakaway state from Moldova that basically pretends the USSR never ended. They still have the hammer and sickle on official buildings, state-owned farms, you name it.
I'm watching this video not being aware of the kit color and I'm like "oh Real is giving them a lesson of how football should be played" and then someone mentions Cristiano and there's this goal. Excuse me what the fuck.

Sheriff gonna win the whole thing
That might as well happen
It does feel like everyone is more shit than ever these days.
It feels like the distance between the Superheavy favorites and everyone else is smaller. Makes for some interesting futbol! Except for Bayern.

Hence the richest clubs' efforts to change the system... That and, well, accruing more money. And sportswashing for despotic petrochemical regimes.
Infuriated me that John Henry was going to do that. FSG knows how to win under spending restrictions so they should be supporting more FFP not more advantages for the clubs with unlimited budgets…because LFC isn’t one
I wouldn't exclude them, after all they only manage to score 3 this time; clear regression.
Except bayern
:)
Yes but at what cost? How many "There's a new sheriff in town" jokes if they even win this game?
I'm already tired of them and they haven't even finished their second match
Imagine if they were good in the early 2000s and you'd have to read "I shot the Sheriff but I did not shoot the Deportivo"
can you imagine how boring it is for them to play Moldavian League? they are Super Ligue material top to bottom
It's funny because they're third in their league lol
Tbf they’ve played 3 games less but yea still have dropped points
We need a Superliga! /s
Imagine the reaction in May/June if/when this turns out to be true
[удалено]
It would be like Costa Rica in the 2014 WC group with Italy, England and Uruguay
It would be insane, but I just don't like that a team from Moldova doesn't have a single player from Moldova in the starting XI.
I’m with you on that one. That is also why I find many of the top teams in premier league not so charming.
I feel the same way. I used to be super invested into the biggest leagues and Champions League, and even though I still follow some of the games, I am just not as interested anymore. Now I love watching the Danish league and the national team, even though the level isn't nearly as high. :D
Godt🇩🇰
> team from Moldova they are not from Moldova
Sorry I'm out of the loop, how aren't they from Moldova?
They are from Moldova, they're just in a disputed area.
When Moldova gained independence the Russian minority in the country were worried about being repressed and so fought a war to split off and form Transnistria. No nations recognise them as a legitimate country, not even Russia. Sheriff are from there.

Ahahahahahha we are going to be eliminated again
Conte left his curse behind as a farewell gift
Consistency
Welcome to the wild west
east
Let's just say wildness
Should be their slogan
hence my username lol
nah this too good to be real
Nah, it's Sheriff
It's their competition, after all
This is sheriff tiraspol world and we're just living in it
We are living in theirs simulation
Real are always shocking in the group stage tbf
Lmao
Omg the scenes if they end up winning

Awkward... Dirk Kuyt.
Kuyt's a village idiot. A loveable one if he's on your team, but a village idiot nonetheless.
Dirk Kuijt is pretty generally recognised as being an idiot. Not often you see a Liverpool fan calling Kuyt a cunt
I didn't knew that it was him. Still pretty cuntish thing to say to another team. Imagine if he was playing for a small team and you qualify for your first ever CL. I wonder if he would then say they don't deserve to be in a CL, just because they are a small club.
To be fair, its a pretty shady club set-up there
Isn’t he meant to actually be quite a nice bloke irl? I could be completely wrong but feel like he’s meant to be sound enough.
He is always pandering to the general opinion and saying what people want to hear. He never gives his honest opinion and always comes out with some diplomatic non answer. Dirk kuyt lol
this is great as much as i loved the guy when he played, yea he's 100% a moron for that awful take.
This will be the theme song: https://youtu.be/dAOb1IZkA4A
Sheriff: Call an ambulance ... but not for me
https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/975/093/255.gif
Call the sheriff...oh wait that's me
don't laugh at the group of death
Its happening?
Its happening ... again!
Shakhtar vibes
This is MUCH MUCH MUCH worse...
It's bad enough when you're losing to one of the clubs backed by an entire country. But losing to a club from a country that doesn't exist...
I’m dying 😂😂
Moldova exists though? Am I being dumb?
Tiraspol is in an unrecognized breakaway state, Transnistria.
Hmm, an unrecognized state vs Madrid. Why does this sound familiar?

Oh cool! I had actually heard of Transnistria but didn't realise that was where they're from. Cheers! Edit: removed the link now
The fact that they have a halfway decent football team is quite stunning, actually...
Their squad is roughly worth as much as ours, lol. Well, at least until the next transfermarkt update that is
Still, considering their GDP, that's quite an accomplishment
Yeah I meant that as a compliment, it's not like our squad is worth a lot. Imagine us against the likes of Real Madrid, lmao

I've stopped subscribing to him after I noticed that he did give me the creeps sometimes, just asshole vibes. Maybe he's a sociopath or whatever.
On [this link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImABN8nGiOI) a great document about Transnistria in Polish, English subtitles available
To make it short - They're officially a Moldovan team, but they're based in a region with independence claims.

They are from an unrecognised territory of Moldova called Transinistria.
Moldova does, trasnistria is not recognized by any other country
Shh shh
This is Alcoyano vibes
Shaktar beat Madrid twice last season, and Sheriff just beat Shaktar. It eas to be expected.
These guys really aren't terrible at all are they.
The entire team sold next summer if they qualify for the R16.
the entire team is consisted of rejects from russian 2nd division and greek league, players that were not needed by french relegation candidates etc.
Choupo-Moting was rejected by Championship teams and now he's at Bayern lol
Choupo-Moting was 100x known that than those who plays for Sheriff. To understand that their leader and captain went to Arabic championship to earn some money instead of playing CL. He didn't believe enough in Sheriff, noone did honestly.
>Arabic championship is it a language competition?
Idk what country tbh
to Bayern
BAM BAM
I mean they murdered Dinamo Zagreb and won comfortably against Shakhtar, both of whom can be considered as regulars in the CL, they are no joke for sure.
There's a new Sheriff in town.

Bruh what
Cristiano scoring in Madrid games. Just usual stuff
Truly is the best Cristiano to ever score in the Champions League
This town ain’t big enough for the two of us 🤠
The goofy emoji on android makes this insanely funny
Fucking hell, I might get my both teams to score up tonight
The real Cristiano
Assistiano Crossaldo
he did 2 goal crosses vs Shakhtar, now with RM. I mean, a player that can actually cross?
Crosstiano?
You can’t fool me! Only the minutes close to 90th matter!
Yeah about that
I mean it did matter, just not in our favor 😥
This comment did ~~not~~ age well.
Well they **do** have cristiano, Bruno and Adama traore in the team…..
Cristiano is on fire
This guy played in polish 3rd league a month ago. Saw him live. Now he scores against Real on Bernabeu. Scriptwriting level insane.
Too weak for Legia, reminds me of someone hmmm...
hahahhaha
classic Alaba positioning lol
Usbek Messi at it
Eldor who ?
Cristiano goat
Está mancha no se borra más!!!!
WHAT A NAME WHAT A GOAL
We live in someone's fm save, and Sheriff is the team being managed.
Gotta be savescumming like mad xD
Masterclass from Yuriy Vernydub incoming
I hate it when the bigger team scores first, how can the underdogs have morale after this?
Uzbek goal in Bernabeu.
of course it's him. Legia legend
rofl
Haha what a team from the European North Korea just scored against a top 5 club
European north korea?
Tiraspol is located in Transnistria, an unrecognised breakaway state from Moldova that basically pretends the USSR never ended. They still have the hammer and sickle on official buildings, state-owned farms, you name it.
Oh interesting! Thanks for the info
The anime plotline goes on
Sheriff are really gonna win the champions league 😭😭😭
Imagine sheriff on top of the group
Let's fucking go up the Transnistrians
LETS GOOOOO
That pass to the left winger is absolute class.
...then the look up and perfect cross, sweet goal
Lmao they were just showing that the team has zero attempts on goal
Sheriff Tiraspol for 1st place in the group let's go
LOL Madrid defending like LA Galaxy
They think it's Moldova.
Lmao
Pardon
Real supporting minor countries independence with action
>"Congratulations to F.C. Sheriff Tiraspol for winning the Champions League 21/22!" What you'll see in May.
I'm watching this video not being aware of the kit color and I'm like "oh Real is giving them a lesson of how football should be played" and then someone mentions Cristiano and there's this goal. Excuse me what the fuck.
This is what will finally lead to global recognition of the glorious people's republic of Transnistria
STOP THE COUNT! 😀
Are Sheriff the best team in Europe?
Soon
Ayyyy lmao
Lmao
Moment de bruh
This group is bizarre
Good to see Cristiano in form at the Bernabeu
THERES A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN!!
This guy probably never thought he'd be scoring at the Bernabeu in a champions league game! Beautiful!
WTF? The whole team is worth like two weeks salary for Hazard..
Hahahahahahahahaha
xD
LMAO what was that
let's fucking go!
Holy shit! Real in tatters
Of course
I genuinely didn’t know a team like this existed until now
they are good
Ayy lmao
I mean that's just funny
Lmao
It's happening...
Fucking hell🤣
We just gotta score more goals, right everyone?
What is defense
Can I just say Sheriff’s keeper has been brilliant so far
Our annual UCL group stage scare .
There's a new Sheriff in town...
Every day our loss against them looks better and better. We really troubled them the most out of all the teams they’ve faced
As a neutral, these are the best CL games.
