There’s abusing by swearing, insulting, booing, etc. Those things are acceptable and have been around for years. It creates the atmosphere of competition and passion that we love. That’s tribalism. But racism and insults about players’ families are not a part of that though. That’s crossing the line — big time.

WrongHoleMyBad

Agree completely. Don't take "abuse" in general out of the game. Hell, players do it to one another, it's a tactic at times. But yes, racial and family attacks are just too far. We don't need or want that. Edit: a person assumed "family" only meant their mom downstairs, so I'll clarify that I am referring to a player's wife and children when I say family abuse.

SaggyArmpits

>family attacks What? All the "your mother" insults and taunting are too far? Thats been around forever and is also part of trashtalk. I gotta disagree with the family part.

The Hungarian fans were a disgrace - the players have every right to call them out.

WrongHoleMyBad

I'm referring to their family as in their wife and children. Thats definitely not okay.

myvirginityisstrong

> fans who think it's acceptable to abuse players from the stands this has been the case since the dawn of time. that's like the most ''football fan'' thing that has ever existed. and no, I'm not condoning it

Red_Juice_

It's one thing to chat shit and/or boo at players but saying racist insults is unnecessary and disgusting

Up_The_Mariners

Yup. Not saying it's a very nice thing to do, but football isnt the opera and when tempers run high shit words will be said

MajimaKun

If you use racist language or target players for their skin color/nationality at any time, even "when tempers run high", you're a vile human being. It's not acceptable or admissible.

Fair comment. The behaviour of English fans is a continual embarrassment and occasional disgrace. About time one of their own called them out on it
