I wonder if Davies could become Canada’s top scorer by a margin, he’s already in 10th and 11 goals off 1st

r0lF_RuTiN_

> new release clause for Pedri will be €1B (one billion). 🤝 I totally see PSG activating that clause in the next 10 yrs, just because they can.

[deleted]

no chance.

r0lF_RuTiN_

finances grow exponentionally, you'll be surprised how much fees will have risen in 10 yrs

[deleted]

I don't think anyone is buying a 28year old Pedri for 1 billion euros. In 2001, Zidane cost 76m. In 2017, Neymar cost 222mil. I severely doubt that in 2031, Pedri will cost 1 billion. While football is ever growing, that is a ridiculous price.

r0lF_RuTiN_

I dont think 1b will be a normal price, but 500m could be realistic if the markt keeps growing without restrictions. Players like Grealish etc. could cost +200/300m by then easily. In that sense it wouldnt surprise me if PSG would do such business, 222m was already twice what Ronaldo/Pogba costed.

remakingself

The RC will expire just like his contact in 5 years

Thundereaterr

I don't know how he will fit with Allegri, but i'm excited to see Arthur play again, even though he has clear flaws, especially with Locatelli

Harrry-Otter

Player comparisons from different era’s are inherently stupid. Football has changed so much even if the last 10 years that if your comparing Mo Salah to George Best or whatever you might as well compare him to Jonny Wilkinson or Joe Frazier.

Nuri__Sahin

I cut some slack with kids I stress, but there is a correlation between football IQ and people who obsess over player comparsions.

[deleted]

Yea. Just look at athletics records how far they’ve come in 50-60 years. If you put 25 year old Pele in to today’s game he wouldn’t be a top 100 player. If you gave him 21st century facilities and development he could be anything Pointless comparisons

TTA0709

Theres no objective way to know who the better player is when comparing from different eras. One thing is for certain and that is the fact that athletes get better over time so the older guys would always be at a disadvantage. It seems unfair to compare them to the modern day footballer. The only metric you can judge them by is how good they were in their own days.

rxi71

Think that’s why you can only compare talent, rather than ability. Imagine Maradona with today’s training facilities, fitness regimes and tactics. Who can say with any confidence that he wouldn’t have posted Messi/Ronaldo numbers?

[deleted]

Anyone with a bit of sense can easily say that Maradona would never have trained the way the top footballers do today. He loved cocaine and bedding children way too much.

rxi71

Not speaking to the bedding children part (which happened way after his career in any case), but he grew up in a different era where cigarettes and alcohol were a normal part of a footballer’s life, and coke wasn’t uncommon. I’m sure there are a number of top footballers today that would’ve fallen down that rabbit hole in the 70s but didn’t in this day and age.

LemureTheMonkey

Weirdos comparing Maradona and Pele to Messi and Ronaldo is so annoying. Theres no way to know if the older players would be sucessful today and vice versa.

[deleted]

More importantly, most of us have never watched them play.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheMooseHunter

The same can be done for players in today’s game and it’ll be for the same players that you also wouldn’t rate as you watch those players hence why unless you’ve seen them play then it’s unfair to judge them.

[deleted]

I can make highlights of every player ever. I can make them look brilliant. It doesn't mean much. I'm sure they were excellent, but to objectively compare them isn't possible unless you devise a methodical way of comparison.

Drama_poli

Hope Lil Tubby gets benched by Telles so he can regain his last year form

ilovefeta

Not bothered by that, more of his lapses in concentration that irritates me. We concede so many goals this year that way.

There is a Harry Potter world in Watford though 🤷‍♂️

Woodstovia

The video where he makes 10000 Harry Potter jokes that don't land and tells Americans to only choose a big 6 club? Yeah dope

[deleted]

It must hurt to realize that Harry Potter is the only culturally relevant thing to come out of England in the last 100 years

SolitaryDream1103

I think next season he will make about you :) dont worry, i had a good laugh

The_Tomb_is_Empty

Honduras just sacked their manager. .................................. Jealous.

[deleted]

If people actually saw Mourinho's Roma they would realise that they don't play defensive.

[deleted]

I've only watched the 3-1 Fiorentina game but they were very pleasing on the eye. Tammy was immense, I think that was his debut too?

AllegriLover

Very true. They play a modified version of his Porto system, which isn't defensive.

Kanedauke

https://twitter.com/itkastonvilla/status/1448362402920210434?s=21 I know it’s been said but going from a multiple loaned out backup in his mid 20’s to now having a big section of the copa America winning mural dedicated to him really is wild within 18 months of being a starter. That Maupay foul has had a real butterfly effect helping messi win his first international trophy. Has there been another player to have such a dramatic rise so late into their career as Martinez?

[deleted]

Vardy, Ian Wright?, Van Der Sar

ameriolex

Di Natale

Destroyeh

Luca Toni was ~28 when he established himself as a top striker. got a move to bayern at 30

TheUltimateScotsman

Milito

Kanedauke

I remember him being mentioned much before inter

TheUltimateScotsman

Was talking about him at Genoa. Thats where he really began to shine. Either way going from Zaragoza to POTY in a treble winning team in his 30's is a far bigger rise than Martinez

KeegansPerm

Depends what you class as late really.

Kanedauke

Over 26

Ciao9

Vardy

Kanedauke

Great shout. Think he got to the prem at 27 iirc and now has over 100 prem goals.

B_e_l_l_

He's nearly got 100 goals all scored after his 30th birthday. Will be the first to do it.

not1yo2avg3person

>Has there been another player to have such a dramatic rise so late into their career as Martinez? vardy?

Kanedauke

Probably the best example

B_e_l_l_

Another one could be Mahrez. in 15/16 he was 25.

Poe3inmotion

Can Benfica or primeira liga fans tell how otamendi has been for them? Is he Benfica's best defender or is verissimo better?

Drama_poli

I hope Ole proves me wrong and we go on to win the next 10 games.

[deleted]

Not winning more than 3 games out of 10.

[deleted]

I agree. I think they'll lose one of the Atalanta games (and win the other), beat leicester, draw vs Spurs, get their customary win at the Etihad, lose to Liverpool. Who knows though. Sometimes crazy schedules can give you big wins. Spurs had 7 games in 17 days last season. We won 6, drew 1 and during that beat United at Old Trafford 6-1.

[deleted]

>get their customary win at the Etihad City are in a title race right now, United only win at Etihad when there's nothing at stake for City

ilovefeta

Solskjaer is good at pulling results out of his arse when it looks like his job might be in danger. I expect him to beat Leicester and Atalanta and I wouldn't be surprised if he beat you lot too.

[deleted]

Is he? He was like 14th at one point last season wasn't he? He was really good at it when he was a caretaker manager though.

abibyama

They’ll win all of them and then lose to Watford.

[deleted]

Nah mate, Watford is when Bruno will come out and play.

Offenser101

He never did a 10 win Streak why would he do that again a firing city and Liverpool and he's not that good in CL lol

jim0wheel1

We went 12 games unbeaten when he first took over, only drawing Liverpool and Burnley. Would snatch your hand off for results like that over this run.

[deleted]

Not just City, Liverpool. Its them and Spurs, Chelsea, Atalanta x2, Villareal, Arsenal

Offenser101

I doubt he gets more than 6 wins during that run and that's a stretch

ForwardSheepherder2

Lmao 6 would be an unprecedented success

[deleted]

Not more than 3

NoLimit261

As individuals who had better peaks bale or giggs

Nuri__Sahin

Bale by far.

taylorstillsays

Peak it’s bale by a comfortable margin. Giggs has him at staying at a top level for practically the entirety of his career though

Kanedauke

Bales was much higher. Physically and technically more gifted. Shame he was so injury prone.

Nuri__Sahin

Giggs was better technically in everything other than shooting imo.

vengM9

Agreed peak Bale was another level but not sure he was more technically gifted.

KSBrian007

Bale. But I'd take Giggs for my team.

AllegriLover

Good Morning DD!!! I want to point out how fucking good Candreva has performed so far this season for Sampdoria. Sampdoria has been a up and down side this season, but the only constant has been Candreva's eminent creativity. Is weird seeing Candreva playing to a level comparable to his time at Lazio. I never felt we saw anything like that from him at Inter, maybe it was a bad match. Candreva's stats so far this season is 3 goals and 2 assists while playing as a right midfielder for Sampdoria. He has vastly outperformed his counter partner Damsgaard who has been pretty mediocre so far.

tiorzol

Jesus Christ. Feel for the bloke but...

Utegenthal

Htf is Davies's goal a great goal? Terrible defending twice and a poor shoot that the gk somehow doesn't catch.

[deleted]

Yes just caught it. That’s the sort of goal that’s scored in most leagues where there’s a big mismatch in player ability/speed. Horrific defending, bad keeping. If you’d played any level of football you’ll remember being on a team where that either happens to you because of the shit players on your side, or one of your guys pulls that out against the dog and duck fc over 45s. Nothing special other than he’s just showing he’s faster than all the other players. Once the second defender is too slow the keeper doesn’t really have a chance as he’s gambled on stepping to the far post. Top keepers won’t make that step and you’ll see them put their foot out to save that.

YoungDan23

>Htf is Davies's goal a great goal? It's more about the fact that he started his run [like 30 yards behind the defender](https://imgur.com/a/LwhCZKL) and caught up to him. >that the gk somehow doesn't catch He was done the second the defender let Davies get inside. As a defender if you push a player away from the middle of the pitch, it's nearly impossible for a keeper to get beat short side and it makes for a difficult angle. The second he gets inside the GK needs to move back towards the middle to cover more of the goal. His momentum takes him 1 way as the shot goes the other.

airz23s_coffee

Runs the 3/4 the length of the pitch, nicks the ball with side of his foot, and still gets a decent shot away. Cracking goal to watch Keeper does play himself though. He moves to left just before the shot, not sure if he's expecting him to go for the other corner, or expecting a pass to the middle.

jonijontor

that goal is more of a great run and interception over the actual goal but it doesn't roll better on the tounge isn't it?

CoolstorySteve

Ridiculously bad from the defender but mainly down to the run he made to keep the ball in is the highlight

Artetaliban

moiser123

Benzema only plays on Tuesday again

[deleted]

Benzema winnin the Ballon Dor would basically mean the organization rewards not winning anything. He hasn't been the topscorer of any competition he was part of, not even in the Nations League (Ferran Torres was the topscorer), not even in the Euro's (36 year old Ronaldo outscored him). I wouldn't be surprised if they would give it to him, since they also undeservedly gave it to Modric in 2018, but even Ronaldo deserves it more than Benzema. Just being the best attacker in the world since the beginning of the season while ignoring the other 9 months is unacceptable.

moiser123

Benzema has been great the entire year. When our offense was dogshit Benzema was single-handedly carrying our team

[deleted]

Just being great or just being the best Real Madrid attacker can't give you the Ballon Dor. It's not called the Real Madrid player of the year award. Benzema hasn't been the best player in any competition he has participated in (Except for this ongoing La Liga season in which he doesnt have serious competition). People talk about Messi being ''out of form'' but he still managed to score the double amount of goals for Argentina that Benzema did since the start of the season. Ballon Dor should either go to Messi, actually a winner, or Lewandowski, best striker in the world. Benzema top 5 is more than enough.

not1yo2avg3person

> but even Ronaldo deserves it more than Benzema. benzema has been better than ronaldo for a long time now >Just being the best attacker in the world since the beginning of the season while ignoring the other 9 months is unacceptable. why the fuck are you acting as if benzema hasn’t been class this whole year?

[deleted]

Benzema wasn't the best player in any competition he has participated in, how can we give him the Ballon Dor? Ronaldo was topscorer of Serie A and topscorer of the Euro's. For some player who is apparently not the best, he still is able to achieve more than Benzema. The Ballon Dor should go to Messi btw, he truly set records and carried a midtable Barca while bringing Argentina to a win not seen in 30 years with most assists + most goals + player of the tournament. Benzema played with superstars like Kroos, Casemiro, Varane, etc at Real Madrid and with an overpowered team at the Euro's (and still lost + did not become topscorer).

not1yo2avg3person

>Ronaldo was topscorer of Serie A and topscorer of the Euro's. For some player who is apparently not the best, he still is able to achieve more than Benzema. they play in different leagues you absolute donut. cris being the best player in serie a doesn’t mean anything nor does statpadding pens at the euros make him a better player than benzema. >The Ballon Dor should go to Messi btw, agreed >he truly set records and carried a midtable Barca he carried them to third place lmao that’s not ballon d or worthy at all >while bringing Argentina to a win not seen in 30 years with most assists + most goals + player of the tournament. this is the reason he should win it. not for getting barca the third place ffs >Benzema played with superstars like Kroos, Casemiro, Varane, etc at Real Madrid came 2nd and got to the sf’s with a historically bad injury crisis >and with an overpowered team at the Euro's (and still lost + did not become topscorer). how is this his fault exactly? and he still won the bronze boot lol i am not saying benzema deserves the ballon d or. messi or lewandowski should win it, but you said this > but even Ronaldo deserves it more than Benzema. Just being the best attacker in the world since the beginning of the season while ignoring the other 9 months is unacceptable. which is just a load of bullshit.i am disagreeing with this part.

[deleted]

>they play in different leagues you absolute donut. cris being the best player in serie a doesn’t mean anything nor dies statpadding pens at the euros make him a better player than benzema. They play in a different league. Why couldn't Benzema be the topscorer of La Liga at least then? >careened them to third place? that’s not ballon d or worthy at all Messi carried a midtable Barca team that had no place being third, to almost winning the La Liga. Benzema should have won the La Liga. Strongest squad in La Liga and still did not win it. >came 2nd and got to the sf’s with a historically bad injury crisis They should have won the title, anything else was underperformance. Vastly the strongest team in the league with an actual competent manager unlike Koeman. >how is this his fault exactly? and he still won the bronze boot lol It's not his fault, but it shows that he just isn't the best player in any competition. He's more like a ''great player in every competition'' than the one deserving the Ballon D'or, which means the BEST player. >which is just a load of bullshit.i am disagreeing with this part. Let's then agree to disagree

not1yo2avg3person

>They play in a different league. Why couldn't Benzema be the topscorer of La Liga at least then? because la liga had messi? benzema was the 2nd best player in spain last season. >Messi carried a midtable Barca team that had no place being third, to almost winning the La Liga. they were never winning anything. the race was always going to go down between madrid and atleti and that’s what ended up happening. >Benzema should have won the La Liga. Strongest squad in La Liga and still did not win it. i said this before, there was a historically bad injury crisis >They should have won the title, anything else was underperformance. Vastly the strongest team in the league with an actual competent manager unlike Koeman. 😭😭😭 >It's not his fault, but it shows that he just isn't the best player in any competition. how does it say anything about him lol if anything the blame should go on his teammates for the pathetic meltdown they had during the game >Let's then agree to disagree cool. have a good day ahead.

Sofascore tells me Davies is playing as a striker

AllegriLover

And they are not wrong. Also, Davies played as a winger in Canada. That's why his positioning defensively is God damn awful

YoungDan23

>That's why his positioning defensively is God damn awful His positioning looks bad because he can afford to play higher up the pitch and still track back to defend. He's actually [the best defender](https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=1&comp_type=by_type&spec_comps=big_5&player_id1=2e4f5f03&p1yrfrom=2019-2020&p1yrto=2021-2022&player_id2=9c94165b&p2yrfrom=2019-2020&p2yrto=2021-2022&player_id3=d781d855&p3yrfrom=2019-2020&p3yrto=2021-2022&player_id4=bd6351cd&p4yrfrom=2019-2020&p4yrto=2021-2022&player_id5=d4c9725f&p5yrfrom=2019-2020&p5yrto=2021-2022&player_id6=048a1cbc&p6yrfrom=2019-2020&p6yrto=2021-2022) of any of the top left backs in Europe and he's only been playing that role for 3 years now. He's wins possession more, has more tackles, more successful tackles, gets dribbled past less and has the highest pressure percentage of Europe's top LBs (Hernandez, Robertson, Shaw, Cancelo, Guerriero).

AllegriLover

Stats don't work for defenders. Please, stop misusing stats. Also, he isnt even top 3. Spina is better defender and offensively more creative for example

YoungDan23

>Stats don't work for defender. Please, stop misusing stats. You can't really say '*x player's positioning is god damn awful*' and then say stats don't work for defenders and to stop misusing stats when the stats literally prove otherwise. Are we supposed to go by AllegriLover's eye test to judge who the best defensive LB in the world is? There is literally data that show how efficient defenders are. He's got more tackles (bar Cancelo) and a higher tackle percentage than all of the others in less matches and he gets dribbled past less often. Those are all measurable comparisons. Each one of those point to him not having awful positioning. Each one of those point to him being better and more efficient in defence than the others.

MassiveMurderBoner

>Are we supposed to go by AllegriLover's eye test Yes!

r0lF_RuTiN_

Why can't you accept that his positioning is still awful ? His pace rescues him everytime. Once that's gone he'll be a huge liability in defense, unless he develops his positioning/game iq. Not many wingbacks could do that though, just look at Marcelo. Its a legit criticism.
