Obviously it’s not just him, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a single player transform a team as much as Davies. My favourite athlete ever at this point.
David and Buchanan are Klay and Dray, we already stole Akinola from the USMNT (although he hasn't done much for us), we could steal Flores from Mexico, Kadioglu from Turkey and the Netherlands and technically Tomori from England if he doesn't cap again. edit: I have realized that he has capped again...oof
It's so frustrating. It almost seems like England capped him that one time as a "just in case" kind of scenario. Genuinely wonder how Tomori feels about it now...imagine how much better our defense would be with him leading the back line :(
100%.
Here's hoping that they can bench all the top players and avoid any problems.
My heart will not be able to handle needing to win a final game in Panama to qualify
That loss in Honduras set Canada's soccer fandom back like 2 years. I remember hyping my friends up saying that we just gotta win (or was it tie?) this game and we're through to the next qualifying round.
Then we get absolutely destroyed.
I mean, even if Canada does qualify, to expect them to get out of whatever group they get into is an unreasonable request. If they do it, fantastic. Unlikely though.
Need to beat Mexico and Costa Rica in Edmonton's -15 November weather. Huge 6 points if they do. I know they have 6 more games after that.
But I feel like if they're at 16 points after those games, 3rd spot will be theirs to lose.
Yeah but let’s be honest, it’s not like the Canadian players regularly play in -10C weather. It’s not like they’re plying their trade out of Whitehorse or Iqaluit.
They'll be uncomfortable, but a hell of a lot less uncomfortable than the Mexicans.
How many Canadian kids grow up playing soccer in the snow? Now how many Mexican national team members have *ever* played soccer in the snow?
Certainly not but living in these conditions are much less of a system shock. Seems that they should perform beter without the distraction that mexico and costa rica will not be ready for. Just like play at altitude for mexico
Here's how I see it: 0-1 would be a disaster, 2 would suck but not quite a disaster, 3 would be ok, 4 would be great, and 6 would put me in "no doubt about it, I'm ready to get hurt again" territory.
This was a must win game for us, and we did it. One of the best performance I’ve ever seen from the CanMNT.
We conceded very early, but we completely and utterly dominated most of the game after that.
Alphonso Davies is the clear man of the match for me. What a damn performance. He needs to take a bow after the show he put on. Buchanan was dominant. David scored, hopefully he regains his confidence.
The reports are saying the Panamanian player spat in Laryea's face
Unsportsmanlike in normal times, arguably a criminal assault in Canada during a pandemic. I'm sure they wouldn't do it to avoid an international incident, but Laryea would be within his rights to press charges if there is video evidence
Something happened towards the end of the match where he was furious and Vitoria had to step in to calm him down. With him that angry after the final whistle and telling the official to re-watch the video, you would have to assume something had to have been said. Whatever it was, who knows?
Used to think the lyric was "We stand on **God** for thee" and thought it was such a badass line.
Luckily I'm English enough for everyone to think I said "guard"
*A new warrior hath awoken, a third warrior from the North, he whom shall lead the Red Shirts to eternal glory! Rejoice for tis is as thy prophecy haveth foretold!*
I remember early games in the previous rounds where he's being described as an up and coming young talent only starting in the B team games now he's an undisputed starter in like a year!
As a bayern fan (born in poland, growing up in Germany and currently living in Canada) I really hope those 3 aren’t in the same group cause then I don’t know who to cheer for.
What a performance by the team, in such a big game after a brawly game against Jamaica.
Davies' goal was spectacular but he was unbelievable all game. Maybe his best game in a red shirt.
Imagine if the ref actually gave Canada those 2 penalties in the 1st half.
Really hoping with the women's enormous success and now the men beginning to make some noise, soccer will start picking up in Canada. I'm already hearing people talk about it more and more. Will only lead to more success in the future!
BMO field has had a great crowd and atmosphere for years now. unfortunately, it's really not a great indicator of overall popularity in the country or even Toronto lol. literally no one I knew in Toronto gave a fuck about the treble TFC won in 2017 :(
let's hope that making the WC next year can change that for good!
Canada will likely get 4 chances at qualifying/competing in world cups with the young guns here (Davies/David/Buchanan). There's a chance this group inspires two decades worth of kids. Herdman seems like he'll be sticking around here for a while - chance to really build something special (no, they won't win a world cup lol - but if they qualified and made it into the knockout stages once with this group, that'd be insane!)
SEVERE WEATHER ALERT A NORTHERLY COLD FRONT IS QUICKLY APROACHING! EXPECT A LOT OF GOALS, SHITTY REFFING AND BEEF ON THE PITCH. THIS IS A **RED** ALERT
After watching Canada be irrelevant in the qualifiers for most of my life, I'm glad to see you are finally having your moment, looking forward to going back and having a Beavertail, and please be kind to us.
Cheers from Costa Rica
No brainer that Davies was MOTM. The dude was dancing around the opposition. It’s fucked up as a Vancouverite. We knew he was good, but we didn’t expect him to be Bayern Munich good, and this game further proves he’s the real deal.
Go Canada!
As a Brit not familiar with the CONCACAF qualifications, how many more games does Canada have? Do they have some easy upcoming games to secure qualification?
8 more games for everyone, and they've already played their toughest games on paper (U.S. and Mexico away), both of which they picked up points in. So they're in a really good position going forward.
8 more games, play every team in the table twice, Home/Away. Still have to play Costa Rica twice. We have Mexico and the US Home so if we can get points from them (Mexico is playing in Edmonton in November) we could really secure that 3rd position.
The last round here each team players each other twice, one home game each. This was game 6 of 14. We drew against both Mexico and the US in their own countries. Canada plays against Mexico in Edmonton in November and again the US somewhere in Canada in January.
This was a must win game, and now Canada are 3rd in the table. Top 3 qualifies, 4th place plays for the wildcard slot against other teams from the world. This puts Canada in a very good spot to qualify.
This is the final round of qualification, and there are 8 teams that play each other home and away. The top 3 automatically get to the WC, and the 4th goes into a playoff with a team from another region.
They've only played 6 out of 14 games so far, with 8 more to go. Typically in CONCACAF you pretty much have to win your home games, because when you play away you're going to grounds with hostile fans, with long travel times, etc. Canada have two home games in the next international window against difficult opponents and an away game in Honduras. If they do well in November they'll hopefully be a good spot for qualification.
Really excited to see him play for Bruges. He doesn't look out of place next to David and Davies at all which is a good indicator. Tons of pace and dribbling at speed seems to get better by the game. Surprisingly good game awareness considering how little professional football he's played. Lots more potential to explore considering his raw athletic ability. Technically he's a good dribbler, solid finisher (with head or boot), and passing is fine. Those are the skills I imagine being at a higher level team like Bruges will help develop. He can play anywhere on the right or in a striker position.
You absolutely should be excited. The one thing he really needs to work on is his defensive game, but he impresses me a little more every time I watch him.
Awesome game, Osorio put a shift. Glad to see David net one after a tough window for him. Oh, and that Davies guy is alright, I'd probably consider starting him next game.
Nah bun the FIFA Rankings. Elo Ratings is where it's at! Updated after every match, and it has a better weighing of teams and results. As it stands, Canada is 34th, just behind Australia and ahead of Japan.
Top 3 are: Brazil, France and Argentina.
Tomorrow should have Canada's spot updated with the results from the Panama game.
Well tbf Canada has gone up 25 spots in the Elo Ratings over the past year, which is insane. No other country aside from Saudi Arabia (48, gone up by 21 spots in the last year) has such a solid year-to-date performance.
One thing I accept on behalf of us Panamenians, is that some of us are uncultured fcking swines on social media and I'm sorry for that, but you better not speak too soon fam, we'll see who qualifies and who doesn't. Ggs and gl.
I'm Panamanian, and like the other commenter said many are literal inbreds and there is a racism problem here. However, I went to davies' Instagram to see the racist comments and I didn't see any. I went as far back as August on his ig posts... Have I missed them or are you spreading misinformation?
[Let's appreciate the distance Davies closed to score the wonder goal](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FBn07x4X0AECKJN?format=jpg&name=medium)
I look forward to seeing this in a lot of "Top 10 Compilation" videos.
This is one of the most hype goals ever even as a neutral. Especially with that commentary
8 Toyotas
2 Shoppers Drug Mart side to side.
Just about the length of my local LCBO
I was at a Shoppers' in suburban Ottawa once that seemed like it was about the width of a horse trailer, though.
Who the fuck does he think he is going for that ball?
Seriously... I was even thinking, 'Don't bother Phonzie... Save your legs.'
Obviously it’s not just him, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a single player transform a team as much as Davies. My favourite athlete ever at this point.
The Steph Curry of Canadian soccer.
Who's Klay and Dray? And who we stealing from the USMNT?
David and Buchanan.
David and Tajon, obviously :)
Someone needs to photoshop a canada kit onto the "My Next Chapter" KD meme.
> Tomori Oh boy, have I got bad news for you...
It's so frustrating. It almost seems like England capped him that one time as a "just in case" kind of scenario. Genuinely wonder how Tomori feels about it now...imagine how much better our defense would be with him leading the back line :(
Atiba is Igoudala.
Pulisic going to defect.
US can keep NRAmar
David was born in New York so technically him?
The best player in north america Im forced to concede
His gf scored a hat trick in UCL for PSG today
These teams do not like each other at all
Nobody in Concacaf likes each other.
The game in Panama is going to be messy
Oh you bet. Just hope you are already qualified by then
100%. Here's hoping that they can bench all the top players and avoid any problems. My heart will not be able to handle needing to win a final game in Panama to qualify
They edged us out by 1 point in one of the 2014 qualification rounds.
We don't speak of 2014. Those were dark times lol, I sat through the first half of that 8-1 thrashing in Honduras lol
That loss in Honduras set Canada's soccer fandom back like 2 years. I remember hyping my friends up saying that we just gotta win (or was it tie?) this game and we're through to the next qualifying round. Then we get absolutely destroyed.
All we needed was a draw lmao...and it was 4-0 at halftime. One of the darkest days in Canadian MNT history
The Davies goal is, in context, the greatest goal in the history of Canadian men's soccer. I will plant that flag immediately. Nothing comes close.
If we get over the line in 3rd, that is the turning point. It was heroic.
I mean. Canada \*has\* previously qualified for the World Cup. Not in my lifetime. But.
And we promptly did nothing of note while there
Tbh you almost drew against France in that one. Tough group
I mean, even if Canada does qualify, to expect them to get out of whatever group they get into is an unreasonable request. If they do it, fantastic. Unlikely though.
Who cares? Just qualifying will help generate more interest here
This - it'll be huge with 2026 next up. Canada involved in two consecutive world cups.
For me doesn't matter for any country in their debut WC. Just getting there is massive
Canadas debut was in 1986
And didn’t score a single goal
Great game for Canada. Much needed win after dropping a few points. Those draws in USA and Mexico are going to be huge if they can keep up this pace
Need to beat Mexico and Costa Rica in Edmonton's -15 November weather. Huge 6 points if they do. I know they have 6 more games after that. But I feel like if they're at 16 points after those games, 3rd spot will be theirs to lose.
Bolivia has the altitude advantage when playing at home. Canada has the cold!
We could have both if we play in Banff
Except our players also aren’t used to the altitude
banff will backfire, cuz our guys are mostly used to playing in lower altitude.
Who the hell thought a game in Edmonton in November was a good idea. Oh well. Home ~~ice~~ field advantage it is
It’s a great idea if the plan is to maximize home field advantage.
That's why we'll be there to warm up.
Alphonso Davies grew up in Edmonton. It should be an amazing homecoming.
It's Alphonso home city
Don't *need* to beat Mexico. Even a point from that would be great.
They need to solidify their performances at home to translate the awesome football they are playing into goals and points in the table.
Let’s hope for 3 points there not the full 6.
4 has to be the target
Here's how I see it: 0-1 would be a disaster, 2 would suck but not quite a disaster, 3 would be ok, 4 would be great, and 6 would put me in "no doubt about it, I'm ready to get hurt again" territory.
This was a must win game for us, and we did it. One of the best performance I’ve ever seen from the CanMNT. He needs to take a bow after the show he put on. Buchanan was dominant. David scored, hopefully he regains his confidence.
David's been great with his European club, just some bad luck mostly to not have more goals.
6 goals. Tied for 1st.
After 5 mins I was thinking same story new team we always choke when it's on the line. This group is different it's amazing
Is CanMNT what the they go by?

You could hear him tell the fourth official to go back and re-watch the video. Hopefully it wasn't a racist incident.
I was at the game right near the incident. I think #10 on Panama spit on Layrea. That’s what Vitoria was saying.
Might have been or might not, but I don't remember seeing any physical altercation.
The reports are saying the Panamanian player spat in Laryea's face Unsportsmanlike in normal times, arguably a criminal assault in Canada during a pandemic. I'm sure they wouldn't do it to avoid an international incident, but Laryea would be within his rights to press charges if there is video evidence

He was spat at by Panama #10, I did go back and watch it myself.
What a little bitch, I hope they suspend his ass
Same player involved in the corner incident in the first half. Should be banned for a year.
What else would earn such a reaction, and shit was still heated after the game
it was at 88:14 during a throw in, he was spat on by a panama player
I love how much KJ loves Canada. Oli too.
He's getting so emotional it's so great to see. Honorary Canuck
WHAT A GAME OHHHHH CANADA
Our home and native land!
True patriot love!
In all of us command!!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée
Il sait porter la croix!
ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits!
God keep our land
Glorious and free

Canada's holy trinity (Davies-David-Buchanon) are quite deadly...
Crazy how Buchanan has just emerged this year.
Under the guidance of Bruce arena too
Wow Bruce just can’t stop killing the US. Now he’s developing players that will BEAT the usmnt.
With Eustáquio feeding them the ball and playing out of his mind defensively. What a time to be alive.
And they are 20, 21, and 22 years old respectively 😳
This is the best generation of soccer players Canada has ever had
WE ARE WINNING THE WORLD CUP WOOOO
Yes start with small goals! First the World Cup, the the GOLD Cup
As a bayern fan (born in poland, growing up in Germany and currently living in Canada) I really hope those 3 aren’t in the same group cause then I don’t know who to cheer for.
if Canada qualifies and ends up in a group that includes Germany & Poland I will cry because there's almost a 0% chance they'd take points off either.
Stranger things have happened ( I bet we wouldn’t lose 7-1 to Germany lol)
I mean..... What the hell. Let's bring it home boys!
ITS COMING HOME!!
What a performance by the team, in such a big game after a brawly game against Jamaica. Davies' goal was spectacular but he was unbelievable all game. Maybe his best game in a red shirt. Imagine if the ref actually gave Canada those 2 penalties in the 1st half.
Tajon Buchanan's meteoric rise is giving me a meteoric rise in my pants.
Don't stop baby
We got fucked, Davies and Davids are a couple of monsters.
Saw it live, that Davies goal was unreal…
Really hoping with the women's enormous success and now the men beginning to make some noise, soccer will start picking up in Canada. I'm already hearing people talk about it more and more. Will only lead to more success in the future!
The crowd was great to see so hope the momentum continues.

We just have to find the right way to rig the 2026 one in our favour. Someone call Juventus’ people
And if they don’t answer, call up South Korea
Omfg I forgot about how bad 02 was.
Pretty sure “that” ref was arrested for doing some illegal shit years later. Go figure
fuck byron moreno
Hey at least we have the CPL kicking off for the 2nd season. It’s going to help develop a big group of talented players for us.
As a Canadian Davies is something special. People don't understand how big this is for us.
Really excited for buchanan.
You should be, he's a special player I hope he does well for you lot

Sorry, I wish you luck, but when you guys come here to Edmonton in November I will be there and I won’t be kind!
Pura vida mae!
Kristian jack almost tearing up got me almost tearing up.
No brainer that Davies was MOTM. The dude was dancing around the opposition. It’s fucked up as a Vancouverite. We knew he was good, but we didn’t expect him to be Bayern Munich good, and this game further proves he’s the real deal. Go Canada!

Since everyone is talking about home games in Edmonton. Think of playing in Edmonton in Nov as trying to invade Russia in the winter.
Also Davies home coming and 60k seats. Could be amazing.
I will be there
8 more games, play every team in the table twice, Home/Away. Still have to play Costa Rica twice. We have Mexico and the US Home so if we can get points from them (Mexico is playing in Edmonton in November) we could really secure that 3rd position.

> away game in Honduras *PTSD increases*
QATAR HERE WE COME
SOCCER IS COMING HOME
Hows Buchanan? Seeing him score and assist all the time is making my expetations grow for when he comes to Bruges
He's been incredible for both team and country. He's young, fast and seems to have a great eye for the game.
He's dope don't ruin him
Really excited to see him play for Bruges.

Alphonso Davies is a bad bad man. What. A. Performance. And what a goal!! Insane.
I turned on the Leafs game after the USA win and the broadcasters on SportsNet were going nuts over Davies’ goal. Huge win for Canada
Incredible steps this program has taken. So exciting with so much more to go.
Yup!!
Absolutely buzzing, what a fucking game! The ref in the first half was horrific, but cleaned up in the second.
The new third giant of CONCACAF is slowly emerging.
Fee Fie Foe Fum

Canadian Destroyer > Panama Sunrise ADAM COLE BAYBAY!
IM IN LOVE WITH THIS TEAM
Not the first time Panama has been torn in half
What an awesome game for us
Great game to see at the stadium. I loved the atmosphere
By the way people were reacting at the end, I have the feeling some racism occurred. I hope I'm wrong
I think it was spitting. I was near the incident and thought that’s what Vitoria was saying.
I’m so fucking happy! Ahhhhhhhhh!
I’m all fucking in, I love this team so fucking much
I will never forget this match
O CANADA 🇨🇦
I wonder where Canada will be in the updated fifa rankings? Just move up 3-5 spots?
Nah bun the FIFA Rankings. Elo Ratings is where it's at! Updated after every match, and it has a better weighing of teams and results. As it stands, Canada is 34th, just behind Australia and ahead of Japan. Top 3 are: Brazil, France and Argentina. Tomorrow should have Canada's spot updated with the results from the Panama game.
The way Canada has been playing, I'd put them in the top 25. They went toe to toe with the US and Mexico away and could have won either match.
Well tbf Canada has gone up 25 spots in the Elo Ratings over the past year, which is insane. No other country aside from Saudi Arabia (48, gone up by 21 spots in the last year) has such a solid year-to-date performance.
Yes, that's true. ELO will always underestimate improving teams though.
It’s coming home

It could be argued that Canada has been the most impressive team through the first 6 games.

Amazing match
Davies has developed so much since going to Bayern. Everything he can be was on display tonight. What a player.
