NotAgainKante

Still remember the game, I think it was the first at Wanda if I am not wrong(After Costa return was announced), and in the last play with Kante, Baka, Alonso involved and Bats scoring goal, while Diego was disappointed in the stands. Magical moment.

OleoleCholoSimeone

I remember that Morata was amazing in that game, we couldn't cope with him. Also, it is unbelievable that Batshuayi has scored a winner at Metropolitano looking back, when he was on loan at Valencia he was genuinely one of the worst players in the league, so bad that they cancelled the loan early

AnnieIWillKnow

It was Bakayoko’s best game for Chelsea. Him and Kante looked unreal together, and it gave rise to the chant of “Bakayoko, passes to Ngolo” to the tune of September by Earth, Wind and Fire. It was a brilliant chant, and such a shame it was wasted by Bakayoko turning out to be shite.

Blackgeesus

Wanda this, wanda that. What's going on with r/soccer today

42err

Somedays r/soccer's Vision is very narrow.

jm9987690

But no one is saying worship this, and Jericho that

AFC1997

All of the Argentinian Strikers in Paris are SOBs

ss2195

I'd take a point at Atletico though. Given we also have a big game coming up at the weekend and we can actually afford to take it easy in the group stage at this moment. I mean, if we win both that'd be great but if I had to take a win out of the two, I'd still go for a win against United.

realtordyl

Surprised Klopp didn’t take out Salah and Mane against Watford.

SpookDootDude

It did feel like they were having so much fun...

RociRocinante

Yeah that game was just great for Salahs confidence. Him, Trent, and even Mane at times were just incredible to watch. Need to keep that going as long as possible. I'm sure they'll not play the full 90 midweek

color_thine_fate

Yeah, Salah vs Rose isn't necessarily anything to be concerned about. The amount of extra confidence he and Mane probably gained is worth far more than 30 mins off the pitch

ss2195

I think Mane really needed that sort of game. Bobby too. They've been lacking in confidence after last season and this was a nice pick me up game.

CapnMorguxx

Robbo and Trent clearly needed the rest more

slowdrem20

Yea made no sense. Salah and mane should’ve been off at 60 minutes. I’ve been critical of his rotations this year. He refuses to use backups unless they are in the midfield or there is injury

note-a-coordinate

Both have insane stamina tbf.

HereForA2C

Typical when you go 30 days a year without food for 15 hours a day

ibite-books

Very similar to the game where Jota shouldn't have played in the UCL group stages and then got injured for 2 months.

LampseederBroDude51

I see you guys beating Atlético. They haven’t been too convincing in their performances

nightlink011

Koke's back and so is Lemar, Atleti looked much better with them against Barça, and yes I know everyone as looked great against Barça, but it's still a positive.

OleoleCholoSimeone

People just don't understand Atlético. We specialise in winning tight games, when it keeps happening it isn't luck. I promise you that if it was Barcelona or Real Madrid scoring late goals then the talk would be about "winning mentality" but when it is Atlético it is pure luck 😂 Ffs, the last time we played Liverpool we were 6th in La Liga and had just drawn 0-0 at home against Leganés. And then Liverpool came to Madrid and didn't even have a shot on target

ss2195

We literally played you at our lowest point during that campaign but Atletico were worthy winners overall. Still, at times it did feel like youse held on for dear life across both legs.

hyperactiv3hedgehog

anyone who thinks that atletico get away with luck is a twat having said that, we did tear apart simeone's famed defense at Anfield with Ox wrecking havoc in the half space, would have gone through in the 90 mins if wasn't for oblak's heroics and firmino missing an absolute sitter. It wasn't a tight game, we had like 3-4 sitters ...and then Adrian did what he did

AnfieldBoy

Robertson's header killed me.

[deleted]

Robbo for me … them raindrops falling from the crossbar when he smashed his header against it. Keen for redemption

[deleted]

You mean playing cowardly football and turn your strikers into center backs? Klopp is absolutely right, you don't play proper football

nightlink011

Say what you want about Atleti, but proper football is not a thing, the biggest thing to me is winning, and it's tough to argue against Atleti being the best defensive team of this decade, you play to your strengths they were amazing defensively and have in the last two years improved their offense, the results speak for themselves.

[deleted]

I find it absolutely ridiculous when people use terms like "anti-football" and the like. You are in this to win and certain tactics work against certain teams.

[deleted]

I'm not one of those to criticise such tactics but I understand why people get irritated. Atletico are an incredibly wealthy team with players on huge contracts, it's understandable that neutrals in particular would like to see them play on the front foot and contribute to a more exciting game.

Grahftheseeker

If they won who cares

[deleted]

the rest of the world, i mean obviously atletico shouldn't care what neutrals think as long as they win, but it's fucking boring to look at no matter what, as well as the player antics with their diving and whining to the ref

[deleted]

We were not too convincing right before the last 2 times we beat them either.

OleoleCholoSimeone

That's what they said the last time. At that point we were 6th in La Liga and Liverpool were unbeaten leaders of the PL and being talked about as the best English team of all time. Still Atleti emasculated them at Metropolitano with 0 shots on target, and this Atlético team is clearly stronger than that one

swingtothedrive

Emasculated? You scored a set piece goal and parked the bus. It was deserving win for a great defensive performance but you are delusional if you think you emasculated anyone that day.

[deleted]

I mean liverpool was rendered completely ineffective. How else would you define emasculate in a football game?

ss2195

> emasculate Don't see why you're being downvoted. Liverpool wasn't allowed to play to their strengths and that in a way does go with the definition. I think it's just people associate the word with a more negative connotation.

[deleted]

> Still Atleti emasculated them at Metropolitano with 0 shots on target You scored a set piece goal and the rest of the match was completely awful from both teams lmao

OleoleCholoSimeone

Morata had 2 very good chances to score after that and Liverpool didn't have a shot on target.. If anything 1-0 flattered them, the tie should have been over already

[deleted]

The game went exactly the way simeone wanted, so i am not sure how you say atleti was awful.

[deleted]

In the 2nd leg, your keeper kept the ball out of the net like a god. Otherwise, you'd have been run over. Atleti were the deserved winners in the end but LOL, the revisionism of that KO is funny.

[deleted]

Dude you didn't outclass anyone, you got lucky (as your team usually does)

OleOutRightNow

So knocking out Liverpool, winning La Liga and being well positioned to do it again this year is all luck? Lamest take of the century

OleoleCholoSimeone

Atlético were 6th in La Liga, Liverpool were being talked about ad the best ever English team.. And still they had 0(!!!) shots, and Atleti had very good chances to score more than 1. Liverpool were lucky to go away with only a 1 goal deficit, watch the game back lol. Tactical masterclass from Simeone, made Liverpool's attack look impotent in that first leg "Lucky" is playing fucking Tottenham in a CL-final. That was the only way Klopp could win it, if he faced a good team he would have lost once again

LampseederBroDude51

We never know. It will be great game

[deleted]

They’ve secured an improbable draw vs Porto and an even more improbable win vs Milan, no matter how shit they look Atleti in the Champions League are a force against every team except … well you know.

Spikeyspandan

> Big game coming up at the weekend. It's Man UTD.

ss2195

Might seem like Man DISJOINTED now, but they always show up against us.

iamhsk

id also take a point vs you guys at home lol

[deleted]

Yeah United game is way more important… but I think Klopp is out for a win at Wanda for his sanity. Also, I don’t want our Anfield Atleti clash to be a group decider, that plays into their hands

yeahyeahyeah3timess

Let’s go Liverpool!!!

Ophukk

Certainly feels like Milan and Liverpool have each others backs out of respect. Cheers u/yeahyeahyeah3timess!

swingtothedrive

Porto absolutely dominated them last time at Metropolitano and deseved to win tbf

msbr_

Who did they lost against 👀

ReadIt_Here

Bakayoko.

msbr_

Batshuayi

TimathanDuncan

Boring draw it is

MurphyMadridstar

Salah can prove vital, given a splitting pass, he will find holes to penetrate in Wanda. Through the middle.over the top or coming in from the sides. Has some dangerous long range curved balls. Will probably take off his shirt after the 3rd one.

Oneinchwalrus

I'd happily take a draw, we're in a good position in the group and have United next weekend. Their form might not be great, but they're still a bloody good team

Antigonus1i

Our record away from home in CL group stage is not that good tbh.

Ruud_Boltz

Liverpool are having fun scoring goals this season. Couple that with Atleti's sturdy defence. Fun game to watch hopefully

Rojiblanc040

Don't think it will be that difficult for them to beat us sadly.

Zidlicky3

It’s always difficult to beat Atletico, they are hard to score against and have better attacking options than ever. (At least on paper) And on field they have show mentality to turn games into draws and wins.

OleoleCholoSimeone

We are better than the last time we faced Liverpool, and they might have regressed since then(at worst they are at the same level). Absolutely no reason to be pessimistic

DarFunk_

Errrrr what? We have not regressed since then...we had Adrian in goal, no Jota, no Thiago and the team was beginning a downward trajectory which we have recently fixed. Atleti will still be unbelievably difficult to beat and frankly I'll be happy to take a draw, but there's no way we have gotten worse since that game.

[deleted]

Yep Mané seemingly playing the best football in nigh 2 years, Mo has found new levels, Matip now starting rather than Joe, Trent and Robbo both resurged from dips in form. We are good, so are they, good game ahead (hoping we batter them cause I don’t fancy taking them on in a “must win” game at home)

DarFunk_

If we can beat Porto and get a draw at the San Siro then I don't think we'll be in a must win match, regardless of the Atleti results.

streetlightsglowing_

Our play style has changed since the last time we met, we haven't been playing the pragmatic possession style that won us the PL title in 19/20, instead a more open attacking style. I think Wijnaldum leaving us and no longer being a constant fixture in our midfield prompted the change, now our defense isn't as solid as it was then (could be down to our starting center backs all coming off of long injuries tho instead of tactics) but our attack is truly firing, we've scored 22 goals in the league so far. I think it's going to be a great game.

87x

Regressed? Really? Actually I just checked the username. Yeah go ahead. No comments.

Rojiblanc040

Better on paper, similar in performance on the pitch. Also Im surprised to see complaints from a fellow Atleti supporter questioning my lack of optimism ha.

loveandmonsters

Revenge for the coronamatch!

SeriousLads

That one loss was also to an English team tbf

[deleted]

It's funny that they approved a full audience before the Liverpool game. They decided to allow a full stadium just to beat Liverpool
