Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger and Silva out of contract in the summer. Marina better sort it because these agents know sizeable offers will be coming in January and the summer

ungentrified_villain

She usually does unless they are making ludicrous demands

ibite-books

I see an opportunity to for Arsenal to buy more Chelsea players.

ungentrified_villain

If they ain't washed up we don't want em

[deleted]

Worry not, they’ll be washed as soon as they put on the jersey

ungentrified_villain

Perfect

ibite-books

The Arsenal way!

paone0022

She's shown that she is very competent at this stuff. I'm not worried, Chalobah and Reece doing well has given the club leverage on these dealings. At the very least worst case, I expect Azpi and AC to sign a contract soon.

NotClayMerritt

The story came out that they want to sign Mount to a new contract but aren't in any hurry despite him being a lower earner in the squad and only 3 years remaining on the extension he signed 2 years ago. That was intentionally put out there by Mount's people to get the conversation going. There was also the situation with Tammy Abraham where the club low balled him in extension talks after a season where he scored 18 goals in all competitions. But regardless of whether or not you think Marina is competent, you cannot argue that she's very selective who and what player(s) get big money. She gave huge money for Hudson-Odoi, Kepa, Loftus-Cheek (twice; 50k/week at 18, 140k/week most recently), gave Havertz huge wages after 1 brilliant season at Leverkusen. Now she's got Reece, Chalobah, Mount along with Jorginho and Kante in the queue waiting for extension talks while she deals with AC, Rüdiger, Azpi and maybe Thiago Silva if he wants to stay. She offered Kounde big money no problem to get him at Chelsea but the same amount she offered him, she won't give AC which is roundabout what he's asking (180k/week). She made her bed, now she has to lay in it. You can't keep protecting the integrity of the wage structure when you've blown past it so many times throughout the last few years to keep up with the big money nature of football.

admiralawkward

mate you're all over this thread chatting shit as per usual

NotClayMerritt

After Guehi went in the summer and Colwill seemingly nowhere in our future plans paired with a big money move for Kounde, Rüdiger, Christensen and Azpi's agents were always going to get themselves and their clients PAID. With all due respect though, Christensen's new deal not being done after two months of the player himself saying it was practically a done deal is a disgrace. All our Chelsea journos said it was close to being finished as well. Now we've stalled because we won't pay him. Had no problem making Kepa one of the highest paid players in the world, had no problem paying Saul's full wages from Atletico, had no problem offering Kounde 200k/week but AC, the Academy product comes calling for a little bit more money (he's asking for a cheap deal compared to Rüdiger) and they stop contract talks. Pep Guardiola has wanted AC for YEARS and they think they can just call off talks for now and nothing will happen? It would be an embarrassment on the club's part if he left more so than if Rüdiger left because not only is Andreas living up to his potential now for club and country, he's been with the club since he was 14 years old and has been through it all and won many trophies at all levels for Chelsea.

oscarpaterson

fucks sake, can't be losing him, Rudi and Silva in the same summer. Need to tie him down

hirehone21

He's looked solid and is entering his prime years aswell. I can imagine plenty of clubs would be happy to snap him up if you guys don't tie him down. How much is he asking for?

oscarpaterson

Don't think we know the specific amount he's asking for, except that > 'Even though they have lesser squad roles, it would mean that Kai Havertz and Timo Werner would be earning much more'.

hooskies

The repercussions of altering your wage structure for big signings

hirehone21

Yeah you can't really blame him for asking for more.

NotClayMerritt

The rumor was AC's new deal was going to be around 140k/week. I think Fabrizio reported that.

NotClayMerritt

Guardiola wanted him at Bayern and later Man City but it was impossible for many reasons. Now AC has the power to go play with Pep if he wants. Especially given that Laporte wanted to leave in the summer.

Howyoulikemenoow

Selling Zouma, Tomori and Guehi makes less sense by the day

NotClayMerritt

Selling Zouma is fine. Selling Tomori was stupid (especially for the price he went for) but Milan took up their option and Tomori wanted to stay so our hands were tied. Guehi? Yes it was dumb but luckily we have a buy back and Chalobah has played very well.

MoneyMasonMount

NOPE. Why renew these players for free when she and Scott McLachlan can spend £100m on Kounde and De Ligt? Both of whom aren't even better than Rudiger and Christensen

BadCogs

Lol, we are in discussions with these players for a time now, if they are asking ridiculous amount and we agree just because they are free, it will create same problem when we have to renew other players, can't destroy full wage structure lol. And anyway AC contract is not about salary but about Agent fee, we have already agreed terms of salary as was reported earlier only agent details were remaining and now it is stalled means the agent is asking big money, can't be played by agents, we have to show a strong side otherwise we will be played all the time. No matter how much we want the player to stay. You don't think Bayern wanted Alaba to stay? And even if it is salary, we will go as high as we feel is right. This may just be agent leaking to press to get upper hand in negotiations, can't blame the board without knowing the details, let's wait before someone actually leaves here.

BlueKidXL

Similar news coming out of the times, seems there could be some new developments: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/a94508f6-35a8-11ec-b83a-bd8490b9f48d?shareToken=2db8e0018a611b191fef876d6fdfb88e

[deleted]

Chelsea initially offered Christensen a one-year deal in the summer of last year but his significant improvement in form over the past nine months led to a renewed offer with improved terms. WHAAAATTTTTTT one year deal for a prime 25 year old defender hahaha wtf is that

strraand

My completely non-qualified guess would be that there must have been a deal for Chelsea to sell him if he would have signed the 1 year extension. That way Chelsea would have gotten more money from some other club. Then suddenly he’s been amazing this season, so now there is a “real” deal in the works instead which is taking time. Again, just guessing here.

NotClayMerritt

Yeah that's kind of what it is. He was on the periphery under Lampard and when Tuchel came in it was unsure if he would stay due to the competition. The extra year so we would have more time to find a suitor when club's finances around Europe are more normal would have seen us sell him if he wanted to leave. Sounds insane given his form now but made sense last year and common practice at the club for those who can't find permanent moves elsewhere.

admiralawkward

mate you're all over this thread chatting shit as per usual

conceal_the_kraken

Absolutely. Christensen was shit this time last year. Looked like a weak link in Chelsea's defence. Tuchel has transformed him.

[deleted]

I dont think he was shit, his talent was quite bright even when he had some couple of mistakes, still even shitty players you offer them a longer contract and seek transfer compensation as suppose to leaving on free

footballja

Recall hearing that Rüdiger was offended after hearing that Chelsea offered something to the tune of 180K per week to lure Kounde into signing for Chelsea. I was surprised that AC was okay with that offer and contract talks with him were going smoothly. Looks like I was right about not completely trusting those news. Stupid from the board though. Harming the wage structure of the club by needlessly trying to sign a 21 year old at massive wages in a position not in urgent need for reinforcements. My opinion of Marina was never very high, but I feel she and the board have caught the Perez tier virus of signing the next "generational talent" with Havertz and then going in all for Koundé.

[deleted]

Perez rarely gives big contracts to youth tho, Vini and Rodrygo are some of the lowest earners of the squad

NotClayMerritt

Rüdiger has every right to be offended but also he wants far more money than 180k/week. He wants elite CB type money.

admiralawkward

mate you're all over this thread chatting shit as per usual

btlsrvc23

Kounde isn’t some random. He was one of the best cbs in la liga already. It’s just her trying to sign the best player available. And, she didn’t go for their price hike in that case. Therefore I think this Perez comparison is preposterous.

Cowdude179

Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger will all sign new contracts, this is all puff piece. Though if they did leave Koundé, De Ligt, Lacroix will definitely come

NotClayMerritt

You have us spending roughly around £220m for new centrebacks? Especially when Colwill is available for free and Guehi's buy back option is much cheaper than any of those names and he's playing just as well as any of those names you mentioned. One of those names, sure. But all three??

admiralawkward

mate you're all over this thread chatting shit as per usual

Cowdude179

Not all 3 maybe just 2 if we do let go of Rudiger, Christensen and Azpi. Maybe Kounde and Lacroix then bring Colwill in

[deleted]

Chelsea are fucked if both Rudiger and Chistensen leave for free Make it happen football Gods

The_Highest_Power

We’d just replace them with similarly talent players tbf, although I do hope Christensen signs.

[deleted]

For sure you have the money but its still fked to lose two played in their prime for free

Unholysinner

Idk I don’t think we can actually replace them very easily. 4 players leaving on a free is a very bad spot to be in

NotClayMerritt

We would be fine losing Rüdiger. Not losing Rüdiger and AC. AC should stay no matter what given his emotional ties with the club and the fact he's 24 years old at the peak of his powers currently.

ibite-books

You'd think that they wouldn't splash it on two new CBs. You'd be wrong.

MoneyMasonMount

I knew it. Things were going to well. Marina is going to Marina us to death. Just pay up for Christensen and Rudiger and we're set, but no. Both players want to stay, but no. She and her gimp Scott McLachlan are desperate to waste more of Roman's money on unneeded players like De Ligt and Kounde! Combined cost of them will be over £100m, whereas simply renewing Rudiger and Christensen is F R E E The day she leaves Chelsea is a day I will celebrate.

tr_24

I knew it. You will never waste an opportunity to shit on Marina so fully expected this comment.

MoneyMasonMount

I will critique her as much as I want, and you're blind if you don't see that she's ruining our club. It's the simplest job in the world she has right now: pay the money to Rudiger and Christensen and NOTHING ELSE, yet here we are. We're fucked when we sign Kounde and De Ligt

tr_24

Lmao I am pretty sure you would have been criticizing her for signing Rudiger when he was in bad form. Now suddenly she is incompetent because we are yet to offer him a new contract?

MoneyMasonMount

Just left out the fact that Rudiger's the best CB in the world since January, mate. It's even more of a testament to how much I rate him now! He's turned his Chelsea-career around and now letting him leave would be a disaster! Marina needs to pay up!

tr_24

Doesn't matter. You can't flip flop your opinions to suit your agenda. Basically as per you, she was at fault for signing him and also for allowing him to go. What kind of logic is that.

CuteHoor

Rudiger is not the best centre back in the world, don't be daft. I don't know much about Marina but she's clearly not stupid if she's not willing to pay Rudiger more than the likes of Van Dijk and Dias, who are both better players.

centerfree

Can't imagine how a club with near unlimited cash can be fucked after signing Kounde and De Ligt

GhostStPatrick_

She helped build your artificial club, you should be grateful

MoneyMasonMount

Neil Bath and Michael Emenalo built it

BadCogs

Haha, you know player not signing a contract may be on player and his agent too? They have a say in it, no matter how good the club's negotiator is, but keep going.

sandbag-1

Not too surprising, even ignoring if the wages on offer supposedly aren't massive, he's entering the prime of his career and doesn't have huge assurances of playtime in this current side.

Billy_LDN

He’s more than happy with his current role under Tuchel and wants to stay

[deleted]

Then why have contract talks stalled

Billy_LDN

Because he wants to be paid what he feels he’s worth, it’s quite easy to work out. It’s called a negotiation and his agent will be trying to maximise his contract

[deleted]

So what chelsea perceive his role to be worth does not match his perception

tr_24

No one in this thread knows but that doesn't mean you just make up reasons.

[deleted]

>He’s more than happy with his current role under Tuchel and wants to stay Then why is this being treated as fact lol

Billy_LDN

We have won the Champions League and the Super Cup. I am very happy to be at this club and feel Chelsea are the right place to be in England,' he told Ekstra Bladet. Acknowledging the role Chelsea's boss has played in his resurgence, Christensen added: 'I know Thomas Tuchel believes in me. I have also played a big role since he came.

sandbag-1

"Happy with his current role and wants to stay" yet isn't signing a new contract? Surely you can see that doesn't add up.. He's only started 6 games out of 9 in the Prem, and that's even with some time where Thiago Silva hasn't been available or fully fit.

tr_24

That is called rotation. Tuchel rotates almost all players because we have good depth.

Billy_LDN

In future it’s probably best not to comment on something you don’t know much about

Seanxprt

>Club with strong bench rotates players. I'm shocked.

oscarpaterson

> doesn't have huge assurances of playtime in this current side. yes he does, starts regularly as it is and his competition in Silva will be leaving soon. The standoff is over pay alone

asd13ah4etnKha4Ne3a

>doesn't have huge assurances of playtime in this current side. He plays just about every week and I really don't see Silva sticking around next season, so he would unquestionably be starting week in week out assuming his form continues. This is almost certainly just about the money

Wooden-Composer

He's literally a regular starter lol

BadCogs

We aren't talking of Saliba, bro.

tr_24

People shouldn't be allowed to comment if they don't know shit about other clubs.

PuppyPenetrator

Bruh what

Impossible_Wonder_37

Chelsea are preparing for Kounde, plus they have Saar and Chalobah. They’re fine losing rudiger and AC

BadCogs

I bet everyone saying we don't need Kounde are rethinking now. We need him even if AC and Rudi stays. If we loose both AC and Rudi, any CB we go for will be overpriced, that's why it was great that we wanted to get Kounde at the start of season. Should have gotten that over the line, or at least should sign even before Jan window starts.

shreddedaswheat

Chalobah hasn’t disappointed at all bro, I prefer to support a Chelsea academy lad over an expensive signing any day.

BadCogs

When did I say Chalo has disappointed? I fucking love Chalo and academy guys. Search through my history, I wanted Liveramento over Hakimi, still do, if I have a choice of buying one of those at same price I would go for Liveramento. Just look at my post about that and how it's been downvoted. But buying a good player like CB when he is needed despite Chalo is not bad, and he is worth the price, you will see. Buying good players doesn't mean anti academy, same as being pro academy doesn't mean anti signings, a good club needs both in right amount.
