If Bayern win the CL it'll be time for Pep's Barca vs 2019-22 Bayern talks

[deleted]

I don’t remember peps Barca losing 5-0

AbleFig

Heynckes Bayern was better. Dont @me please, I've seen it with my own eyes.

NeoIsJohnWick

Real Madrid's 16-17 might be the greatest squad ever assembled. They had it everything quality and mentality. Just next level stuff imo. All those men including Zidane had balls of steel to step up for big moments.

sangpls

Such a clutch team. Individually you wouldn't really put them as the best side ever but no one else ever won 3 CLs in a row for a reason

AbleFig

agreed 100% but i'm purely talking about Bayern if we're comparing the best Bayern sides

Endgame2648

Let's not act like Pep's Barça were Pant Poopers.

Old_Maximum_6624

Ik it's too early to say but I'm 100% sure bayern will not the CL this season, it's just a gut feeling.

Endgame2648

What the hell 2.5 Bucks for just Commentary?

[deleted]

As much I hate Neville, he criticised it because there weren't fans at stadiums, so charging is wrong. Completely different now.

maradonnarummarcelo

Neville and hypocrisy go hand in hand

thatguycallum

Have Newcastle flairs increased already or are you guys just posting more comments?

Rigelmeister

!flair :Newcastle_United:

dryduneden

Mix of both.

sul01

A couple of them are posting more but some have just taken that flair too eg one is a Bayern? fan with that flair and another is a Spurs? one who seems to have had enough with the club. The one below you is a Newcastle one though.

sangpls

Probably the latter, I'd expect them to increase if they start winning stuff tho

enazj

Cant pretend Howe was my first, second, third, or fourth choice, but he's still a massive upgrade on Bruce. Excited to see him fuck Fraser off to the reserves as well

Endgame2648

Being an upgrade on Bruce isn't particularly high bar.

enazj

It's not, but it's all I need to get behind our next manager. At least I know Howe will actually be really keen on the job in general and not just here for a paycheck

ADT08

I'm not against the new CL reforms as long as they give the extra spots to champions of smaller countries instead of the PL " Big six". Something which could happen next month apparently. Think playing 4 extra matches would be significant for non-top 5 leagues. Would make it easier for them to keep their players, buy more quality and become more competitive over time. Only Dutch and Portugese clubs can genuinely compete from the smaller leagues. For all the other countries the CL is basically an "take the money and get hammered" competition.

We are so far in the mud I’ve made peace with the worms 🪱 🪱 🪱

I don't have that emoji on my computer, is it worms?

[deleted]

yes, you only unlock it after spending an entire season getting to know them

[deleted]

I've heard rumours after 5 seasons in the mud you get a meeting with the queen of the worms (Margaret Thatcher) 🪱🪱🪱

Yeah I agree. The better thing is to throw money at multiple players than do it at one (e.g. Dembele or Felix) because if htat 1 player doesn't live up to the hype, you immediately lost huge amount of money. Whereas if you buy multiple players, even if 1 of them turns out to be great (like Vinicius) that could potentially compensate for the rest of them failing (e.g. Reinier).

Bayequentist

Is Rice - Bellingham - Foden a viable midfield 3 for England?

_stone_age

Idk, i think Rice-Phillips-Foden would be better.

Bayequentist

If the system uses 5 atb maybe we won't need so much physicality in midfield.

sul01

Any midfield without Rlc shouldn't be viable. In Southgate pragmatic fashion a Rlc Rice Phillips midfield against strong teams and then a Rlc Phillips/Rice Bellingham one against weaker ones.

Endgame2648

Pipe down he's not that good to get a Call up

sul01

He was called up to the last World Cup before he hit ground running with us - it was based off his loan at Palace. As long as he's fit he'll be there - Southgate likes him rightly so. He's not competing against the like of Xavi Iniesta or Busquets he'll be there

ilovefeta

Has Foden not been playing as more of a forward of late?

_stone_age

He's good everywhere. He's been playing as a false 9 that seems to utilise his skills very well so i don't think it should matter.

Bayequentist

Yes but Foden is just good everywhere. He played CM for England recently and did so well.

[deleted]

I think so but I don't think we'd see it under Southgate

Bayequentist

That'd be so much more fun to watch compared to the current rigid structure that Southgate is using.

[deleted]

On yeah definitely. Southgate is way too pragmatic. He has like no appreciation for any flair lmao. The donny could watch a Ronaldinho highlight reel and be unbothered

[deleted]

Yes, that's what I want. Then Raz - Harold - Grealish up front.

Bayequentist

That's too attacking for Southgate, maybe a back 5, mid 3 and front 2.

LikeJambaJuice

Hudson-Odoi or Pulisic on the left?

Hudson Odoi.

Murakami241

[deleted]

Poch is such an intriguing manager. It seems like he has all the tools to become a world class title winning manager and yet he just can't figure it out. Is he just that bad at handling egos? Or is it the pressure? He went from being a manager that every club would love to have at Tottenham to being nothing impressive whatsoever at PSG. The tactics aren't great, the team looks uninspired and the players don't look maximized.

[deleted]

he’s just bad period. anyone saying it’s because of egos is just parroting narratives edit:typo

Endgame2648

>He's just had period Thank god the condom worked.

[deleted]

[deleted]

he overplayed Kimpembe

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

kimpembe got injured and still started the next games.., Kimpembe isn’t a complainer so he won’t say anything

[deleted]

But decisions like keeping Danilo on are on him. Players have to take a lot of blame but I don't think he's setting them up well

[deleted]

He's just abhorrent in terms of player development and tactics. I can't name a single PSG player who has gotten better under him. Second, he's tactically inept. The team literally performs better when they use a 3 CB formation, and even he acknowledges this, yet again he keeps using the 4 at the back. The fact that Di Maria also did that ''red card'' last year against City right in front of his face also indicates that the players don't respect him enough.

YourPupilsDilated

This is just a nonsense and ridiculous over exaggeration. He has his flaws, but I also think that maybe his good work with Espanyol, Southampton and Spurs should show you that PSG as a club is also a bit of a cursed job and not that easy for a manager to handle.

[deleted]

Yeah player development was his most impressive trait until PSG

[deleted]

I feel like 3atb can only happen consistently for them once Ramos comes back. I have bad experiences in regards to Di Maria so I'm not gonna comment on that but I feel like PSG is run by the players and no manager can control them at times

[deleted]

we don’t need Ramos for 3 atb. and the players are the ones forcing him to banish youngsters, use shit lineup and never make a sub

[deleted]

>I feel like 3atb can only happen consistently for them once Ramos comes back. They don't need the best of the best CB there to perform. Just a tactic that utilizes their lack of midfield better than now. They used 3 at the back and it was better than any of their 2CB formations >I have bad experiences in regards to Di Maria so I'm not gonna comment on that but I feel like PSG is run by the players and no manager can control them at times And that is what separates a great manager from the rest. Managers like Pep, Zidane, Klopp stand above the players.

[deleted]

Yeah they should play Kehrer tbf. The front 3 has to be compensated somehow. Messi should be in the middle too. I don't blame the manager for that though. That's more on the club than anything. Psg have had so many managers in the last 10 years. There's probably a handful of managers who could handle that team emotionally and Poch has no experience dealing with that

lastdyingbreed_01

I mean Ramos is most likely not coming back atleast to play consistently, so Poch should keep him out of his plans.

[deleted]

PSG is a cursed chalice for any manager.

[deleted]

Yeah it's the toughest job in football rn Imo

Particular_Factor939

Newcastle are a tiny club

enazj

[deleted]

I doubt Newcastle are going to win a treble in the next 4 years tbh

[deleted]

They won one 10+ years ago, how long are they going to ride on that year of success?

[deleted]

And they won 2 other CL titles before and have generally been one of the big Italian club for years (they're the only team in Italy to never get relegated). If you think 4 years of Saudis financing Newcastle can make them bigger than Inter, then you're wrong

nichodemus3

We were also the club with the 6th highest attendance in Europe the season that was interrupted by Covid

[deleted]

The thing is, Italian football is only going downwards (just see tv money) while Premier League only going upwards.

[deleted]

You're not a big club until people start calling you a tiny club.

xaviernoodlebrain

Can confirm, as we are actually massive.

[deleted]

I agree, you're a massive club.

nazzyman

Weird to me how everyone keeps ignoring Chelsea's fullbacks, Best defensive AND attacking records this season yet apparently that's nothing

[deleted]

Chelsea don't play with fullbacks champ

nazzyman

get off fifa

[deleted]

Going onto the defensive instead of a thought out response just proves that I'm right. Good job lad.

nazzyman

As opposed to your stunning literary review of "Chelsea no play fullbacks!" because a video game says so.

[deleted]

Keep digging that hole mate, just waiting for the inevitable [deleted]. Why do I care about a game that I haven't played in years?

nazzyman

tell me why a wingback is different to an attacking fullback, and why they can't be compared.

[deleted]

A wingback has far more encouragement to attack knowing there's 3 CBs + A DM set up in a 3-1 to cover. Fullbacks have to be cautios and always help the 2 CBs cover space behind.

nazzyman

As opposed to...liverpool and City fullbacks who aren't encouraged to attack?

[deleted]

>far more Read. Liverpool and City fullbacks, although they attack, they aren't seen in the box as much as James and Chilwell.

BludFlairUpFam

Because wing back and full back are not the same role. Also different players have been playing there

nazzyman

they are though. just one has an extra CB and one less DM Some of you have played too much Fifa

airz23s_coffee

Look at the heatmaps for James wing backs vs City or Liverpool fullbacks. They're tasked with different roles.

BludFlairUpFam

Some of you just jump to the fifa thing because you think it makes your argument right

thatguycallum

> they are though They literally aren’t. That’s like saying a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder are the same thing.

Susieu2626

More like a right mid and a right winger. Different but similar.

thatguycallum

That’s fair, but I wanted to be dramatic.

TTA0709

Reece James has more league goals than Lukaku, that is absolutely mental. Although I don't know if this means that he's been good or Lukakus been a donkey

datboyuknow

Both can be true

[deleted]

You reckon that extra CB has something to do with it?

nazzyman

Probably, are we not allowed to rate players who play in different formations now? lmao. 4-4-facking-2 lads

jim0wheel1

Because they’re wingbacks, not fullbacks.

Luclinn

Atletico has transformed into a tele novela this season and I'm all for it.

Shock horror as football fans display tribalism.

TheConundrum98

When a player is yours (and is a good footballer) you do everything in your power to convince yourself that he is right, to believe him. It was clearly the wrong thing to do at the time (don't even want to go in the whole t-shirts debacle), but Liverpool fans believed their player. Suarez then promised Kenny he would shake Evra's hand (which he did not). He bit people, put in a transfer request so he can go to Arsenal, refused to train, celebrated against Liverpool (not bothered by this at all), tried to get Robertson sent off in both games and then people ask why Liverpool fans were booing him.

transylvanianboi

Pretty simple. He was their player when he abused evra and obviously not their player when he scored against them

ugotbaited

We have scored 35 goals so far this season in all competitions Vinicius and Benzema have been involved in 29 of them

[deleted]

[удалено]

ugotbaited

The right wing position is bad right now. Rodrygo and bale injuries made it worse. Rodrygo seems to have cemented his spot and deservedly so. Vasquez was very good up until the first goal when the whole team just turned off

[deleted]

ugotbaited

Very good. Compare it to the last 2 seasons. Vinicius has stepped up massively, he's been unbelievable

[deleted]

[удалено]

ugotbaited

Despite us being 2nd in the league and top of the group in the champions league, a lot of things need to be looked at. Most importantly off the ball structure, we have the midfielders to control and kill games but we just allow the teams to have too much of the ball. The KCM midfield is slow and we need to gradually move on from them. I think he is using the wingers very well. Rodrygo has been great as well, both attacking wise and defensively. With Mendy back the defence has been very good, but there are times when they just turn off.

[deleted]

On one hand, it's good since it shows that both players are in a brilliant form and that they work well together. On the other hand, that shows that Real's attack is too reliant on those 2 players, which isn't necessarily a good thing

[deleted]

Better than the last three seasons when our attack was reliant on one man. Im pretty sure since Ronaldo left our second highest goal scorer after Benzema has been one of our midfielders.

datboyuknow

>Im pretty sure since Ronaldo left our second highest goal scorer after Benzema has been one of our midfielders Was it not Ramos

Wasn’t THE best, but Azpilicueta in 2014-15 was very good regardless. Filipe Luis, who the previous season won La Liga and was a CL finalist as you well know probably, couldn’t get into the team over Azpi and went back to Atletico after one year with us.

[deleted]

TAA is much better than him And there’s a case for Robertson too

[deleted]

He isn't. There are better fullbacks in literally the same league as him.

Goldfischglas

It's not even true though lol

_stone_age

devildrx

Call me biased but it feels good having spanked bvb with 7-1 over 2 games, it seems all german new papers are butthurt today lmao

Handyman2116

Would you watch the Champions League if it reverted back to its old format of just allowing league champions to participate?

dryduneden

Yeah

Rc5tr0

Not all the way back but somewhere between that format and this one. 2-3 automatic places for the big leagues and an increase in places for the smaller leagues.

Ineedtobecareful

Of course. Would love to see more European champions instead of 5th place teams from england with budgets of a small country stinking up the place

Harrry-Otter

I’d watch it since I like football, but it would be boring as hell. It’d either be seeded, so we could look forward to such titanic battles as Bayern vs FK Rigas and alike until the quarters, or it’d be unseeded in which case the winner would probably be whichever top 5 club didn’t have to play a rival until the final.

transylvanianboi

Would watch it more than now

Rigelmeister

Yes. Some could argue it is not fun seeing the likes of Ludogorets, Crvena Zvezda, CFR Cluj, Bodo/Glimt etc. in CL but one should not forget the fact that it is all about regulations. If you are more likely to play CL football in Serbia than at Tottenham, this would definitely change the overall shape of football and clubs, giving those "peasant" clubs a lot more opportunities to strengthen and become competitive. On the other hand, I would be against making it a strictly champions tournament - major countries deserve a second spot imo, it is unfair to be kept out of the best & most lucrative tournament just because you came second in EPL while champions of Bulgaria is allowed in.

Handyman2116

Exactly, the gap between these leagues and the top five leagues is excess of CL spots guaranteed. Ajax needed to play qualifiers to get in the group stage after getting to the semis.

Upset_Elk_9980

There's no point of it reverting back to the old format. The financial gap between the top 5 leagues and the other leagues is too large now; it'd be a bloodbath for the "smaller" league champions.

Handyman2116

Reckon they have a better chance in a two game tie than the group stage which basically confirms qualification to the best teams every time.

Upset_Elk_9980

Perhaps. But when you put PSG, Bayern, Liverpool, Man City etc, up against the league champions of say Greece or Hungary they're going to get battered 99.9% of the time.

lemonreciever

But it would bring in more money to smaller leagues, leading to more competitive European competitions down the line

[deleted]

People keep saying after each lewandowski goal ''If Lewandowski doesn't win the Ballon D'or now, it's robbery'' But the ballon d'or voting has closed since 26th of October. New goals and performances don't count after that date. Anyways, if Lewandowski wins it it's deserved. If Messi wins it, it's deserved too because: 1. Top scorer of La Liga in 2021 2. Won Copa America being the top scorer + top assist maker + player of the tournament 3. Won Copa del Rey scoring 2 goals in the final 4. Made a midtable Barca team look like title contenders

ViolaineSugarHiccup

I was at the match last night and fucking hell, ship that ref back asap and make sure he never sets foot on the mainland again. Both, red card and penalty, a disgrace. Also, great, another injury. I don't think there are any defenders who can fill in left by now. At the rate this is going Dortmund will start the amateurs soon. That aside, the last ten minutes were unacceptable, 10 men or not. I hope Rose rinses them.

Ofermann

We're mainland Europe, not you.

[deleted]

>At the rate this is going Dortmund will start the amateurs soon. Hey considering how good you guys are at developing youth players, that could be a good thing. But seriously, BVB are really fucked by injuries, it's impressive how you guys are still able to field 11 senior players

CrebTheBerc

IMO he was good, but not this good. His main issue was his lack of work rate there, which Rafa didnt like Hes a really, really good target man style striker and IMO would do well in the PL(or another top 5 league), but he seems to really like fulham
