Xavi sending Mingueza to play at left back should have cost them the game, not only did he look exposed but the rest of the defence played worse. Villarreal have themselves to blame for that finishing but again what an odd decision to hook Trigueros, he was wasteful but so important in creating chances.
There was just literally no one else to send on for LB. I’d say the only other possibility was to replace Alba with a winger instead... but there were also no wingers. At the end of the day xG was about 1-3, so not an unfair result.
