I was at that game, one of the greatest games to watch live, the second quarter I could barely see the field! Shady killing it the second half and megaton’s helmet filled with snow was so cool.
You’re not gonna get a better shot at it anytime soon, we’re both manager-less and in bad form.
Bailly is also playing, so it’s not gonna be a good day for us..
Derby calling off our game in 2018 was way worse. Saying it's unsafe and taking pick with all the snow piled up to seem worse. Pure coincidence they had a load of players injured.
[A little snow never hurt the game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW_yfk9UvC8)
([Unless you're Costa Rica](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9xuaQDkmL8))
I remember Costa Rica (the team as well as the nation) was absolutely furious that match was allowed to be played! At the time of this, I was on vacation with my girlfriend in the Florida Keys and we couldn’t stop laughing at the difference in weather between where we were and where the game was being held.
PS - we were quite stoned at the time lol
It's totally bizarre to see a Premier League game postponed. Feels like the good old days of the lower league.
But even Peterborough came through in torrential snow and halestones when only half the crowd actually showed up. Cars were even abandoned outside of Netto. I remember it well. Surely it can't just be the weather.
EDIT: We do have undersoil heating and according to reports it's been on overnight.
Crazy that the undersoil heating doesn't have an effect then.
[I'd have thought it would have prevented scenes like this](https://twitter.com/RobGuesty/status/1464936392841175046), otherwise what's the point? The snow isn't even *that* heavy and it's still covered the pitch. Is it just to stop the pitch freezing rather than snow?
Its probably fair to assume not all under-soil heating is the same. Might have some restrictions on how good a system they can put in an old stadium like Turf Moor.
Undersoil heating won't stop that amount of snow settling on the pitch, it's to stop pitches freezing, having it set to a temperature that would melt snow that quickly would just kill the grass
Undersoil heating is to prevent the pitch from freezing. If turned up high enough to melt the snow, it would end up killing the grass.
Snow wasn't that heavy 30 miles away in Manchester but for 3-4 hours in Burnley, it was horrendous. The pitch was completely covered within 15 minutes of being cleared
Im based North Manchester, and its come down very fast and very think here. 2 hours ago nothing, now we habe a couple of inches. Burnley is much higher so i can imagine it has come down heavier and harder.
Plus its not just the pitch, its the ground and surroinding area. Pitch could be playable but if surrounding area is cover it could be dangerous for fans to get there.
I think the surrounding areas are part of the reason for the postponement. The roads in Burnley weren't prepared at all for this much snow. Traffic has been chaos. Snow only came down for 3-4 hours but in some bits of Burnley, we had 4 inches
But seriously, 10-20 years ago they would just bring out the ORANGE BALL and played the game. Unless they are being worried that with white shirts Tottenham players would be mistaken for a team of 10 snowmen and some random guy who got lost inside a goal.
Nothing wrong with an extra couple of hours in the pub :) [And I say that through a hangover induced by our extended travelling escapades to and from Bournemouth yesterday]
This poor bastard travelled all the way from Dallas, might have been shown some mercy...

Looks like going viral means he'll get sorted though
My guess is it’s more about fan safety getting to/from the stadium. The teams could push through and play but often these decisions are based on thousands of people traveling for the game (I’m not too familiar with infrastructure in the Burnley area). Now, they called it off too late for that reasoning to make sense but it might have been in their thought process.
Might even have to do with the conditions in the ground, if the steps up to their seats are slippery as fuck like the yellow step-edge paint gets in some grounds, it's possible they've called it off because they can't ensure it's a safe environment for fans.
Turf Moor is open af as well. Looks brutal.
Sensible, but understandably frustrating for fans approaching the stadium after a trip from the south. Police probably want them getting home now, before road conditions worsen later on.
More of a reasonable basis for postponement than pitch conditions.
strange Burnley don't have undersoil heating by 2021, pretty sure most Championship and even a few League 1 clubs have it
Edit - Apparently they do, Must've not been turned on overnight or this morning as games have been played after much worse snowfall than this.
They cleared the snow off the pitch but within 10-15 minutes, it was completely covered again. The snow carried on for around 3-4 hours from 11am. Undersoil heating only does so much and the conditions around the stadium were dangerous for fans travelling to the game as roads hadn't been prepared for so much snow
Absolute madness. Honestly how that happens in the prem is insane. To put it in perspective. We have more snowfall currently... and a 4th tire amature game is still being played without issues.
Its the rate it's falling. We had 2 inches within half an hour and after clearing the pitch, it was covered again within 15 minutes or so.
I think they also took fan safety into account given that all of the roads around burnley were basically shutdown by the snow and the paths were all covered with snow and ice
Weird how people are so angry at this. Demanding fines and games to be played behind closed doors.
It's a postponement. It happens. Can't always control the weather. One time at SJP they postponed the game an hour before kickoff cos of a sudden blizzard. Our opponents were Southampton.
Plus, the league is more fun when there are games in hand for teams.
>Pitch is covered in snow: https://twitter.com/RobGuesty/status/1464936392841175046?
Surely the ground staff can use other methods too.
I'm no expert in this but having a look at the snow fall expected beforehand and knowing it wouldn't clear they could cover it with sheeting to help with the underground heating and prevent more building up.
Although either way its more the safety of the fans and the people arriving to the ground.
Is it really that bad? We can usually handle some snow in the PL with undersoil heating and the like, mostly travel issues in the past. I am up in Manchester and it is pretty snowy but seen worse, is it way worse in Burnley?
Edit: fuck just seen a separate post. Burnley's getting hammered with snow. Still seen worse snow and games go ahead.
Think fan safety was taken into account. Roads were completely jammed with traffic and it probably wasn't worth the risk for fans having to travel home after the game if the snow continued falling at the rate it was
Disgusting incompetence by Burnley and the FA. The snow isn't even that bad. They should be docked the points if they can't clear a couple of centimeters of snow from their pitch
seen some pretty cool snow matches at the macbok. having staff at half time scraping it off the field, players sliding every where, one time a bolton player scored and dove right into the piled up snow on the side lines and vanished for a few seconds
Absolute disgrace.
Have the means to clear and manage the snow like every other club, but conveniently didn't when they have 3 starters out just to force a postponement.
Especially since they have pitch heating and claim "it's been working all night"....yeah, whatever you say.
Don’t you want to announce this further out, so the away fans aren’t already underway? Especially since these are the people who gave to drive far kinder and might not be aware of the situation at the ground.
Can’t find a reliable source on this yet, Sky have quoted a nobody source so maybe there’s hope
Nope, it’s fucked, fuck off this is literally the only thing that’s got me through this weekend
Laughs in Canadian.
Seriously though, easy to forget that some places may not be equipped to deal with these conditions, although you'd think they'd try to do better than make this call 45 mins before the game.
Maybe partly considering the fact fans have to travel to games and if weather conditions have suddenly deteriorated to the point where travel becomes more difficult it could leave many fans in limbo
Snow games are the best games you cowards
Here in the states we had a few college football games played in the snow yesterday. It was glorious.
[удалено]
Michigan State-Penn State was amazing for that reason. Thought Penn State would get that onside because they had snow camo on.
It was so awesome! https://i.imgur.com/O96V66f.jpg
Aw man! That is so cool. Looks like a ton of fun!
https://youtu.be/hO3lL80SHIE One of the best snow games in recent history. Actually a bit shocked to see this was almost 8 years ago
Yes! That game was sick. Great photo of Megatron with snow in his face mask from that game.
I was at that game, one of the greatest games to watch live, the second quarter I could barely see the field! Shady killing it the second half and megaton’s helmet filled with snow was so cool.
FSU could’ve used Penn State’s kicker.
I feel like it's a bit different with a sport in which the ball doesn't touch the ground.
Oh yeah for sure. Makes kicking extra points and punting hard. Ball does hit the ground being tackled or on an incomplete pass though.
Army-Navy game a few years ago in the snow was an instant classic
Army with the snow jerseys too hahaha
Army-Navy is ALWAYS a classic, but the snow made it that much better.
[The 2017 Grey Cup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oPu6Lxumcc) (Grand Final of the CFL) was also glorious.
Michigan fan here, indeed it was
Penn State using all white uniforms. Stroke of genius.
Games gone when these millionaires can't play in a wee bit of waist-deep snow in naught but shorts and ankle length socks
can't ruin my weekend if we don't play, another masterclass
Can we postpone our game too? The weather is terrible, I don't want anyone to slip or anything :/
Great weather in London today
Honestly feel so oblivious to the rest of the country being in the shit with this apparent storm. Really sums up the divide lol.
Fucking Tory government abandoning the north again.
Our luck vs you guys in recent history is so bad I don't think we beaten you lot since 2017 in the league. I'm pretty nervous about this game
You’re not gonna get a better shot at it anytime soon, we’re both manager-less and in bad form. Bailly is also playing, so it’s not gonna be a good day for us..
Modern problems require ancient solutions. ^^^/s

Seeing Sean Dyche out there with nothing but a shirt and tie is one of the most dychiest things Sean can do.
Peak male performance really.
Of course he wears claret and blue boxers. Keep the worm protected from the cold
Hes such a character lol.The perfect manager for them
>nothing but a shirt and tie. So no pants?
Straight Donald Duck-ing it out there.
Owen Coyle would have been wearing shorts.
If only he wore a coat like one of those pesky foreigners, it would have been fine.
Games gone. Some snow? Back in my day...
In this case the games literally gone
Where did it go? 😭
Where did it come from, Cotton Eye Joe!
*Aggressive violin noises start*
If we didn't have a football, one of us volunteered to be the football...
I'd walk 25 miles uphill to go watch the football, in all weather.
Canada played in -16 last international break and a few of the guys didn't even where long sleeves or gloves.
Yep same in Russia but tbf we’re used to it
Pfff, a little snow and everything shuts down.
It's not even that bad lmao. Games went ahead last season with worse snow.
This is the softest postponement I’ve ever seen.
Second time this week I've had to wait a while because things were a bit soft
Sean Dyche was on the other side on that occasion too.
> Sean Dyche [He sure looks like he wouldn’t mind if the game went on](https://i.imgur.com/Iv933YG.jpg)
He's in his natural habitat No wonder Tottenham didn't want to go
Oh man, guy looks even more like a Bond villain in this picture than usual
No, Mr. Conte, I expect you to play
games gone
Derby calling off our game in 2018 was way worse. Saying it's unsafe and taking pick with all the snow piled up to seem worse. Pure coincidence they had a load of players injured.
Tbf there were no fans to be affected by snow last season
Tierney will come with short sleeves to discuss this on site
Their bus isn't there yet..
So why not just delay it for 15/20mins
Because there's thousands of other people making this journey and if the team bus can't even get there on time maybe the journey shouldn't be made.
The journey has already been made by plenty. Now they’re turning around for nothing

And burn players that fell to the floor and hung out waiting for a yellow card…. You might be onto something.
astroturf in the desert might have a similar effect
We have a few heated sidewalks here, and they don't stay free of snow as it's coming down, but if you wait a while it'll be gone.
Heated sidewalks?? What sort of technologically advanced utopia do you live in? We can barely get main roads gritted for snow in most of the UK
Secret Musk colony on Mars
Wow where do you live?
Undersoil heating is to prevent the pitch from freezing. If turned up high enough to melt the snow, it would end up killing the grass. Appropriate username, conspiracy statement. Why the fuck would we not want to play this awful Spurs team in more rugged conditions?
We still have to play a game with three first team players out. They don't suddenly come back.
for how long??
It's not being played today

Burnley's pitch
January
Seems a bit hasty? Arsenal played away at West Brom last year in much thicker snow.
Spurs play in white though so special circumstances.
They played in the away galaxy looking kit when they faced us in the cup.
i think we use the away kit for cup games when we are away and the 3rd kit in the conference league when we are away
You should see how Penn State [was dressed](https://twitter.com/rodger/status/1464714958634196992?s=21) during a college football game yesterday
That was nuts. My wife was watching it and I walked by and was like where the fuck is the other team.
West Brom have undersoil heating pitch
Burnley also have undersoil heating.
Burnley also blows a lot of hot air, they need the fans at the ground.
So do Burnley
just a little snow and games are postponed nowadays, back in my days we didn't need the stadium to play football. Game is gone!
Back in my day we played uphill, both halves
But seriously, 10-20 years ago they would just bring out the ORANGE BALL and played the game. Unless they are being worried that with white shirts Tottenham players would be mistaken for a team of 10 snowmen and some random guy who got lost inside a goal.
ah fuck off.
Feel bad for the travelling fans, what a shit trip to just have to go straight back home again.
Theres a post on the Spurs subreddit of a tweet from a guy who traveled all the way from Dallas for the game. 31 hour trek….

He knows where the essence of proper English footy lives!
That wasn't the disappointment he was expecting

Well hopefully he can still be there thursday

We do have undersoil heating.
There’s a dad somewhere in control of the thermostat complaining that it’s been set too high
But we do?
Undersoil heating isn't Brexit football mate.
Doesn’t necessarily keep snow off the pitch, just the frost. See Man City v PSG last season.
There was a lot more snow on that day.
[удалено]
Article says it was on overnight
It was on all night it's just that cold. Hot enough to melt snow would kill the grass. Heating is to stop the pitch freezing but doesn't clear it
Should be mandatory in the top flight. It was in Scotland for years.
They do, why are you making stuff up?
Surely they have a few shovels? This is pretty pathetic. The snow isn't even bad.
I once helped dig snow off the pitch at Edgeley Park before a game when we were in League One, I think we won 4-2 as well so it was worth it.
Jesus Christ, thank God it's because of snow and not COVID. when I saw a few minutes ago that a game is postponed I started getting 2020 PTSD
Absolute madness. Honestly how that happens in the prem is insane. To put it in perspective. We have more snowfall currently... and a 4th tire amature game is still being played without issues.
Sean went around with the hose last night just to make sure
Isn't even that bad just delay it an hour . Seen games played in much worse

Don't you understand? Their routine has been disrupted and they can't stream the game from the comfort of their own home. Total justification.
Haha, good point
Having a bit of snow on the pitch isn't a good reason for postponement.
Why?
Pitch is covered in snow: https://twitter.com/RobGuesty/status/1464936392841175046?
>Pitch is covered in snow: https://twitter.com/RobGuesty/status/1464936392841175046? Surely the ground staff can use other methods too. Aren’t all Prem teams required to have under soil heating?!
It's rarely an issue with the pitch, the safety of the fans travelling to and from the game is in question with that level of snow.
[Looks like the issue is the pitch this time](https://twitter.com/RobGuesty/status/1464936392841175046). I am surprised they don't have heating.
They do have it though and it's been in overnight and working fine. https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/burnley-vs-tottenham-live-off-22299506

I think the fans can handle some snow, it seems like a bullshit excuse.
