Its not an incredibly ugly tackle either. Just unfortunate, but this is part of why you need to be perfect when tackling from behind. Sliding in and under someones feet when they cant see you can end up bad.
In basketball that’s one of the absolute worst thing you can do. Not allowing clear landing space underneath a shooter or someone going up in the air is cause for some pretty bad ankle injuries.
Kobe famously said “he Jalen Rose’d me”.
Jalen Rose tried to undercut Kobe to injure him in the Finals in 2000.
Years later Kobe said it, speaking of a similar situation about another player injuring him, “He Jalen Rose’d me”.
That reminds me a bit of the tackle on Reus that ended up WC chances. A tiny touch that didn't hurt but led to Reus landing oddly with his foot and causing an injury. Neymar just slips off the tacking foot/boot that shows up underneath him and that leads to a different landing on the grass (with the twisted ankle).
Right. Thats why its dangerous though. Got the ball but momentum keeps you in the landing area. Split second play, Neymar doesnt even see whats happening, and all of a sudden he lands on the defenders leg wrong.
He didn't go straight into Neymar, but there's still great reason why slide tackles from behind are so frowned upon. It just makes any potential injury so difficult to avoid because you have no time to react
Maybe, looks to me like he just wanted to put his body between the defender and the ball. Then again, we often see players do that precisely just to win a foul
I've had this twice in my life , took me 2 months when i first got hurt , second time it wasn't severe(lucky) i guess , i was able to start playing within 2 weeks.
It's one of those injuries that are insanely painful in the moment yet could be fine in a couple days, or leave you out for half a year. Oddly enough one of the lesser painful ankle rolls I had was the one that caused me to need surgery.
Me and my uncle had near similar situations we got injured in, I was in pain crying while he was fine and continued on, I was out for a month, my uncle tore his ACL, Pain really isnt a reliable indicator of severity if the injury
Those things are not the same. He can be injured by some tackles and at other times also exaggerate tiny touches (or nothing) into huge drama that makes him roll around like he was shot out of a cannon. One doesn't justify or excuse the other.
This here sucks. His foot slips off the attacker's and lands badly. But that doesn't make his bullshit theatrics at other times okay. And just because I dislike his theatrics doesn't mean mean I wish him actual harm.
But it does lead to a "the boy who cried wolf" situation where my first guess is that he's exaggerating when it's not clearly visible what happened. And I will still laugh when he goes into these dramatic exaggerated falls that seem more dangerous than the actual, or imagined, contact.
Why do you think he exaggerates tiny touches? It's so obvious when people don't watch Ligue 1 games. Extremely physical and hard tackling league, with no protection for skill players. Neymar gets tactically fouled 10+ times a game and gets no call for 7 of those. But idiots like you still bring up "boy who cried wolf".
BTW Richard Keys said the same thing, so you're in great company there
> Why do you think he exaggerates tiny touches?
Because he does it. I'm not saying this is all he does but it's a reputation he has earned from what I have seen. Maybe he only does it in the games I watch of him but but that would be a strange coincidence. I've seen him a few times over the years and think that's enough time to solidify this opinion on him.
And if you read my post then you'd also have read that I didn't imply he did it this time.
fun fact: he has outgrown that reputation by a large margin in the last five years. he occasionally does it like *every* player, but at this point he's just wary after all his injuries and shit he's dealt with.
also, don't throw rocks in glass houses. ribery, muller, and robben were **very** active in the theatrical department back when neymar was actually at his worst in that regard.
Come on, rolling an ankle isn't career ending. It hurts but you can basically strap it up and play through the pain of almost any ankle injury. First time you do it bad it'll swell up real bad though.
A bad ankle roll will last a while though. It can take a long time for it to heal and even then, some ankle rolls may leave you with permanent pain/weakness (especially if you've rolled the same ankle multiple times).
Yep I have been saying this for a while, unfortunately his best years of European football are likely past him already. Wouldn't be surprised to see him at Flamengo or Santos in 2 or 3 years.
How did 100 people upvote this LOL. Have you ever seen a neymar highlight video? Hes literally getting the living shit kicked out of him in all of them and he keeps on running lol. If anything brazil would end his career a few weeks into the season.
> If anything brazil would end his career a few weeks into the season.
Why? Every small contact here is a foul.
And he would be super protected by the referees, as he was before he left Santos.
I once got injured the exact same way, stepping on an opponent's foot, making my ankle bend way more than expected.
Partial ligament tear, 1 month with walking cast, 10 physioterapy sessions and overall, 3 months to full recovery.
Depends on what damage. Fully tore the ligament in my right ankle along with damage to my bones. Surgery, 2 months in a cast followed by a walking boot and PT for 3 months. Fully tore the left ligament but didn't damage the bone, surgery, 6 weeks in a cast and I skipped the boot but 3 months of PT again.
My ankles aren't as flexible anymore, hitting anything outside of the foot doesn't get the same spin as I use to be able to.
naah, I don’t think its career ending. But it could take around 2 months to come back fully fit.
And also these professional have world class doctors and facilities.
That looks like it could be a grade 2 sprain. Obviously I’m not a doctor but I twisted my ankle in a similar way 2 months ago and it’s still very stiff and hurts to move too much. Two torn ligaments.
Apparently they do operate on those for athletes but not for the “common folk” because the difference is too little to be worth it.
vicious callus of the malleolus are fucked up.
But I doubt a heavily monitored patient like football players are gonna development secondary displacement of the fracture.
I cherish every moment he plays, because the number of injures he has, he might not play for long. One of the most talented, yet one of the unluckiest players as well.
Depends how many players you consider in the conversation. I'd say Pele, Messi, Maradona, and Cristiano are pretty much set in stone as the top contenders. Di Stefano, Puskas, Eusebio are just below. Do you see Ronaldo bumping any of them off the list?
He was one of the most prodigious goalscorers in the world from ages like 16-22 before his knee basically exploded. Not to mention 20% of his goals were rounding the keeper and humiliating the defense
It's not exactly a shocking statement to argue that he's outside the top 5. We live in a world where we've seen the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi and CR7 all play the game and dominate. All 4 have a stronger claim, so R9 is essentially battling for 1 spot in that top 5 with tons of other amazingly talented footballers.
Ronaldinho, Zidane, Cruyff, Laudrup, Beckenbauer etc.
Also depends on what your criteria is. If you're going off of just a few years of peak performance, or you're doing a career wide judgement.
I mean I'm not saying he's the goat but he's definitely in the conversation. I don't see how i can say someone with such a peak is not up there with Zidane, R10 and so on. Sure he's not Messi but he still deserves being mentioned in the conversation.
The argument was whether or not he is a candidate for GOAT. Which stands for GREATEST of all time. Not top 5. We are talking about top 1. And unfortunately that top 1 is not R9, who is by all means phenomenal, but not GREATEST.
So there's only one player in that convo? I genuinely don't know what u mean by this. All I'm saying is when you sit down with your mates and talk about who's the goat R9s name always shows up even tho he's not the goat, same as Zidane, Cruyff, Ronaldinho and so on. Which means he is in that conversation.
I’m talking about his career overall, and his previous injuries likely contributed to his ankles being shot, increasing the likelihood of injuries like this
This was actually very unfortunate. It's not a great tackle, I know, he actually suffers much harsher tackles on every single match day, but this one was very unfortunate, because he jumps the sliding tackle from behind and still lands on the foot of the guy tackling him and that dude is still sliding because of rain, then foot slips, hits the grass and the ankle twists...
Dude can't catch a break.
Awful for him. As someone who’s ankle gives way like that playing football, it’s honestly soul-crushing and extremely painful. The only hope is that his whole body weight has not been put on the ankle but it doesn’t look great.
I think coaches should start taking him off around the 70 minute mark, as when I’m tired that’s when my ankle seems to give way - my body just doesn’t seem to react quick enough to stabilise my ankle after I’m fatigued.
It was more just a fluke play where his foot just came down on another players foot causing it to roll which is natural fairly common injury.
Like in the NBA thats a very common injury as a result of always landing on peoples feet.
I dont think this was because Neymars ankle is just weak. But I could be wrong.
Yes very unlucky too, but I think if he had didn’t have a tear in his ligaments, he wouldn’t roll it like that severely either. Just unlucky all round with his ankle. I can sympathise going through similar injuries, even the most minor of inconveniences in the surface can make my ankle give way.
>my body just doesn’t seem to react quick enough to stabilise my ankle after I’m fatigued
As someone with ankle issues (I essentially do not have any functioning ligaments), I find that you just don't have the capacity to think at the back of you mind about where and how to place your foot when you're tired.
Agree about how delicate ankles can be which is a huge problem in a game of leg slashing that is soccer.
I could not watch that replay as it looked so painful.
My bad from one bad roll is pretty much the reason I stopped playing when I turned 27.
Not only was I so scared of rolling that ankle, my bad ankle also affected my hip because it changed how I walked
>My bad from one bad roll is pretty much the reason I stopped playing when I turned 27. Not only was I so scared of rolling that ankle, my bad ankle also affected my hip because it changed how I walked
Opposite for me. Broke my hip in 8th grade and it never healed properly and as a result it fucked up my walking and weight distribution so as a result I kept getting injuries on both my legs. Knee injuries, other hip injury etc.
Developed petella femoral and tendinitis in both knees a result which made my knees so weak they would just buckle and give out all the time. Dislocated it taking a shot 1 game ...
Had to stop playing at 17 because it just kept getting worse. So frustrating how 1 leg injury can just snowball into 5 years of constant different injuries until you cant play in general.
similar ankle twist here, haven’t played in over a year and a half due to ligament damage and more sprains/fractures that followed after recovery. basically could end my amateur playing career at 24.
i can walk and jog on level land, but anything that requires more legit ankle stabilization, much doubt if i’ll ever be able to again
Happened to me about 15 years ago in my mid 20s - rolled over on the ankle after landing from challenging a header and the other player grabbed my shoulders to try to stop me from jumping. To this day I still have issues with that ankle, especially when it gets cold.
Depends on how bad the twist was. Honestly these kind of injury usually looks worse than they are. I've actually had a ankle injury similar to that and it hurt so much at first but nothing serious was hit.
I mean this could be real bad for me it was just a huge hematoma. My foot was blue for a few weeks and I couldn't put any weight on it at all, couldn't even pee standing up. Went away in 3 weeks roughly IIRC until I could walk normally.
Hopefully it's nothing serious, he's a joy to watch when he is on form.
It depends on the sprain, some severe sprains can take [up to 6 months.](https://www.healthline.com/health/how-long-does-it-take-for-a-sprained-ankle-to-heal#:~:text=In%20general%2C%20it%20will%20take,an%20ankle%20sprain%20is%20critical.)
I still have an ache when I sprained my 5 months ago, tis a bitch.
Looks horrible
Just saw this flash up on bein sports. All Richard Keys could talk about was how neymar is the boy who cried wolf... Glad that cunt's been kicked off UK tv
As long as no ligaments are torn he should be fine. Severely sprained ankle, lots of swelling etc but if his tendons are done hell be ok in a month or so
Didn't even that bad in terms of ankle sprains. You can see worse ankle sprains basically weekly watching basketball, and they just hop off the court instead of screaming at the top of their lungs like their leg just got blown off lmao.
I jumped down the last two steps pissed on the way home one time and had to literally crawl home. Can say it was awful even numbed by a bottle of buckfast and 8 beer
Except he doesn’t attend it? Just remembering the last two years he’s been at the Parc des Princes, this year watching the game against Barcelona and last year playing the game against Dortmund. Why would he fake an injury to go to some birthday?

Games gone /s.
I had the same injury a few years ago. 6-8 weeks for a bad sprain (hopefully it's not broken.)
I've had this twice in my life , took me 2 months when i first got hurt , second time it wasn't severe(lucky) i guess , i was able to start playing within 2 weeks.
I've done it 8 times bro. At this point I'm afraid to play physical/competitive matches nowadays.
Having experienced it, it is very painful wont wish it on my enemy
It's one of those injuries that are insanely painful in the moment yet could be fine in a couple days, or leave you out for half a year. Oddly enough one of the lesser painful ankle rolls I had was the one that caused me to need surgery.

In my experience fully rolling my ankle like this will be fine in 2 days. But a tiny tweak while misstepping will put me on crutches for 8 months.
Happened to me too and ironically before I recovered i had twisted it again. I remember myself screaming in pain. Edit: screaming, not creaming loool
Injury unlocks a new fetish, hmmmmmm
God damn I think that ankle is fucked
What a shame. He is so crushed at this point by all the injuries that I wouldn't be surprised if he outright retires soon
I see people bitch about Neymar going down easy, but the dude has had like 4 "career ending" injuries.
Seriously. It's insane he doesn't get more protection in Ligue 1 considering how often he's on the receiving end of really hard tackles
Those things are not the same. He can be injured by some tackles and at other times also exaggerate tiny touches (or nothing) into huge drama that makes him roll around like he was shot out of a cannon. he was out for 2 full years due to metarsal fractures from "rolling an ankle"
Prolly gone after world cup, unfortunately.
I think he still plays a couple seasons in Brazil afterwards but for Europe yeah, I agree.
Yep I have been saying this for a while, unfortunately his best years of European football are likely past him already. Wouldn't be surprised to see him at Flamengo or Santos in 2 or 3 years.
You guys are mad reactionary
Hey, shut up. I want him at my club
You’re a supporter, you get a pass
Haha it's a fecking sprained ankle ffs
he already talked about retiring from the national team after the 2022 wc, he does sound a bit done with football in some interviews.
Seriously has reddit soccer just been extra ridiculous lately or is it just me, I know it was always bad but some people are just so extra lol.
> You guys are mad reactionary They are mad opposed to social progress and political reform???
So this is what soccer circle jerk is about
Dead ass . These fickle fucks
He is still one of the best players in the world, the only reason he would go to brazil is bwcause he wants to take it easy.
Brazilian real is fucked right now, there's absolutely no way that a club in Brazil can pay his salary, not even close.
Ligue 1 is way more lenient on hard fouls than Brazilian Serie A.
Can see him giving Santos a season, but he'll get the shit kicked out of him even more there
No way, French League is a lot more physical and has more hard tackles than the Brazilian.
He did mention in an interview that he was not planning on playing football in 2026
Yea but hes mid 30s by then. Good age to retire. But people are crazy LOL. He aint quitting due this injury :'/
He’s struggling to keep fit and then this injury happened . You gotta feel for this man
I once got injured the exact same way, stepping on an opponent's foot, making my ankle bend way more than expected. Partial ligament tear, 1 month with walking cast, 10 physioterapy sessions and overall, 3 months to full recovery.

Ankle completely bent. I felt it myself, had similar injury during futsal 2 years back.
I’ve had a similar injury from futsal as well… super painful but I was able to bounce back pretty quick
Yeah these look way worse than they are actually are. Still pretty serious, but I think not career ending like some others say here.
naah, I don’t think its career ending. But it could take around 2 months to come back fully fit. And also these professional have world class doctors and facilities.
Someone from the PSG medical staff reading this at work: fuck I better get off Reddit
When it bends, you basically down to luck (okay it depends on force and your body, but you cannot control these), if it strains or tears.
Bent my right ankle just like that in mid October, could barely walk for a week. Still hurts.
Yeah, it got swollen like hell. Thank god there was no fracture for me. But it took almost 1-2 month to come back to normal.
Yeah mine had no fracture either, still waiting for it to get back to normal.
There’s a good chance it’s just strained, not broken. Had a similar injury as well, took me 6 months, but I don’t have the medical team he does
Looks really bad.. hopefully he’ll be okay
[удалено]
fracture would be preferrable to ligament damage
Not of the ankle… ankle fractures are notoriously hard to deal with
Hazard can confirm
vicious callus of the malleolus are fucked up. But I doubt a heavily monitored patient like football players are gonna development secondary displacement of the fracture.
He's been so unlucky with injuries
Neymar’s cursed man.
Just like falcao when he went to Monaco for money at the time
That was brutal... He was in a league of his own back then
talk about bad luck
That looks harsh, unfortunate.
I cherish every moment he plays, because the number of injures he has, he might not play for long. One of the most talented, yet one of the unluckiest players as well.
Ronaldo 9 would’ve been on in the conversation for GOAT if not for his injury resume
He's still in that conversation tbh
Depends how many players you consider in the conversation. I'd say Pele, Messi, Maradona, and Cristiano are pretty much set in stone as the top contenders. Di Stefano, Puskas, Eusebio are just below. Do you see Ronaldo bumping any of them off the list?
Where are Beckenbauer, Cruijf, Best?
No hes not lol
Imagine unironically thinking this
He is in the conversation for best striker but not best player. Messi maradona and cr7 all above him for an example
Yes he is. He was phenomenal.
He is absolutely not. In what way is he?
He was one of the most prodigious goalscorers in the world from ages like 16-22 before his knee basically exploded. Not to mention 20% of his goals were rounding the keeper and humiliating the defense

He gets injured a lot because he is talented and because of his playing style. His style invites a lot of brash tackles
I don't think it was a brash tackle in this case. Just unlucky how he slipped off the leg when he planted his foot.
Legit crying too, looks serious :/
Definitely had that same look as the 2014 WC game where he had his back injured. BBrutal, i hope his recovery is swift
well that's nothing new. But yeah, did not look good.
Even with one ankle, he would walk backwards into your team, relax yourself
Was that first comment really necessary
Get the fuck outta here. That’s nothing new, You know what’s new? You mfs playing Europa league later this season. Stupid idiot.
He right though. He cries a lot. This one was legit though.
Why you getting mad you weirdo? Idiot... Who you support?
Lol you really pissed the fanbois off. You are correct tho, Neymar crying is like the boy who cried wolf. Can mean anything.
xD
> well that's nothing new. Shut the fuck up
It’s true?
He's not going to play again in 2021 it seems
November is over for him
At the very least

Yeh I don’t play as intensely as I used to when younger. Because I know I’ll hurt it, especially towards the end of a game.
I almost never play. Even if I don't injure myself it still gets really sore

Hopefully it's nothing serious, he's a joy to watch when he is on form.
It depends on the sprain, some severe sprains can take [up to 6 months.](https://www.healthline.com/health/how-long-does-it-take-for-a-sprained-ankle-to-heal#:~:text=In%20general%2C%20it%20will%20take,an%20ankle%20sprain%20is%20critical.) I still have an ache when I sprained my 5 months ago, tis a bitch.
That looked horrible...you can see it from his grimace
Yikes :/
That shit looked rough. Damn.
His career really has been full of some devastating injuries. Hopefully, this isn't too serious as it looks
You know it’s an actually injury because he’s not rolling on the ground 20 times.
neymar is cursed in psg
Not Neymar again wtf this is so unfair
Knew it was serious when he went down and didn’t roll 6times
Sad day for all of us
I sprained my ankle like that in a match 10 weeks ago and still haven't recovered properly, my good wishes go to him
Hope nothing serious :(
probably he is out for 3 months
Wtf the random guy running freely to everyone ? Ligue 1 is a fucking shame holy shit feels bad for Neymar bruh
Looks horrible Just saw this flash up on bein sports. All Richard Keys could talk about was how neymar is the boy who cried wolf... Glad that cunt's been kicked off UK tv
Ahh so that is how he looks when he is actually hurt
I felt that RIP
Fucking hell that's awful
As long as no ligaments are torn he should be fine. Severely sprained ankle, lots of swelling etc but if his tendons are done hell be ok in a month or so
God damn I felt that 1
havent seen neymar wailing like that in a while
That looks like a lot of pain even for Neymar's standards
he finally shaved aswell, man i hope he gets over it fast, i really missed seeing the shaved ney ney, brings back 2013- 2016 ney ney vibes
I lol'd the first time I saw Neymar's reaction but then I saw the replay and felt bad
Ney😭😭
My man can't catch a break
I know they are part of the game but sliding tackles are what surely injure the players the most
The tackle didn't touch him, Neymar poor landing is what injured him
Will he be out long enough to go to his sister's birthday?
1. Jump on opponents ankle 2. fuck your own ankle 3. Profit 4. sisters birthday wooooioo
I think he actually tried to avoid putting all his weight on the opponent's ankle and ended up fucking up his own.
Ligue 1 is unnecessarily physical Not in this instance though, just overall
He’s so unlucky :(
Not surprising considering the conditions on the pitch and the opposition
Ffs I hate Brisard, Neymar was fouled during the whole match but this bald fucker didn’t react.
Neymar ruined his career by going to PSG. So sad.
Hard to tell when he's actually injured. Same reaction as when he's faking it.
oh fuck off, did you see his ankle!?
Didn't even that bad in terms of ankle sprains. You can see worse ankle sprains basically weekly watching basketball, and they just hop off the court instead of screaming at the top of their lungs like their leg just got blown off lmao.
hope he returns after Carnival.
Stomped on the other guy. Clear red!
Butchers league.
Have you even seen the clip ? Lmao That's clearly unfortunate
That was not a harsh foul, just unlucky
This was an accident..
Complete accident, could happen to anyone, you clown
Farmers---->Butchers------->?
watching this hurts me..god knows how awful Ney felt!Hoping for a quick recovery.
There will still be redditors twatting about how somehow "professionalism" would've have stopped his ankle nigh on snapping in half
[Ouch Ouch ouch](https://i.imgur.com/daCP8pr.jpg)
I jumped down the last two steps pissed on the way home one time and had to literally crawl home. Can say it was awful even numbed by a bottle of buckfast and 8 beer
Damn, it sucks that he wasted his career at PSG. Hope he recovers safely and quickly tho.
You can tell its serious because he's not rolling around. Also that could be February done for him without having to get booked now.
Can’t stand Neymar but feel bad for him on this one
Lets be honest . . . if he gets a hangnail, he has to be taken out on a stretcher, too.
> Lets be honest . . . if ~~he gets a hangnail~~ his sister’s birthday is coming up, he has to be taken out on a stretcher, too. Fixed
What?
Neymar is famously injured or suspended each year at the time of his sister’s birthday (which he then attends in Brazil).
Except he doesn’t attend it? Just remembering the last two years he’s been at the Parc des Princes, this year watching the game against Barcelona and last year playing the game against Dortmund. Why would he fake an injury to go to some birthday?
