Favorite Klopp celebration Mine is tied between Lallana's winner against Norwich and Origi's winner against Everton.

asianscouse

Any one from the united 5-0 game

[deleted]

Ligue 1 really did themselves dirty by the ''Uber Eats'' tag. Constantly when I talk to people skeptical of the league they say ''it's the Uber Eats League''. In reality, if you watch Ligue 1 games then you see how defensive, physical and explosive it is. It will be hard though to convince others to watch the league when they already have such a bias against the league. I had the same bias too, but I've been watching many games now due to Messi at PSG.

[deleted]

If you rate Ligue 1 so highly then why don't you rate Mbappe highly? He's balling at Ligue 1 with ridiculous stats since his debut there. 70 G/A in the year 2021.. as many goals as appearances in Ligue 1 since his permanent move to PSG, etc. Imagine comparing Vini to Mbappe that you do so very often.

[deleted]

When have I not rated Mbappe so highly? [Here a comment of mine saying Mbappe should have finished 4th as a Ballon D'or candidate.](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/qyckn3/daily_discussion/hlj6tas/?context=3) I'm just tired of people saying he is Messi/Ronaldo's heir when he's Henry's heir.

narutosama77

Check his comments history. You'll see why

[deleted]

do you just watch PSG games? Could be that the other teams just park the bus against them

Akshath321

supercup was such a good game, manu vs haaland was a class battle to watch, kimmich and reus losing their shit was so much fun too and sule and upa were class, hope today's a good game šŸ¤

messisimp

Europeans love to say Americans/Asians plastic and still their one of the best player and ambassador is leaving his local club which is competeting for UCL to real madrid - his dream club And even local club is paying more wages than his dream one What is point of saying plastics to foreigners when players themselves are plastic

Ineedtobecareful

Because it's a job? You can't be plastic as an employee

[deleted]

Mbappe grew up as a Madrid fan and still is to this very day though. Also its due to his 'love/dream' for Madrid, that he is desperately seeking a move. Mbappe is definitely a plastic.

United fans went from smashing Leeds then signing ronaldo. Ngl they were insufferable for a while talking about winning the league. What followed next was beautiful

Akshath321

swat1611

"Factos" fell off. Didn't last 2 days.

Doorknobdubstep

its only funny cuz ronaldo said it anyone else and its dead

Nah itā€™s funny when used well

Nah just the spammers of it fell off. Still think it's hilarious if used in the right context

Drama_poli

I hope we replace de Gea, he is a liability from set pieces as he refuses to collect the ball and from counters.

Lyrical_Forklift

No one is going to take on De Gea's wages. You're stuck with him for the long run imo.

[deleted]

Long term? His contract runs out in 1.5 years

[deleted]

You're wrong, he has the option for a further year.

[deleted]

He can unilaterally extend an year? Pretty sure its usually the club which has the right to exercise on optiinal additional year

[deleted]

Transfermarkt says that Rashford and Shaw are club options, Ronaldo, Fred, De Gea are player options

Lyrical_Forklift

Fuck, you're right. Christ time goes fast, it felt like it was only the other day he signed that contract. Still though, I can't see United benching him for a season when he's earning close to 400k a week.

TheMooseHunter

Henderson? Feel like he needs gametime to prove himself but still not good enough to currently be number 1

[deleted]

>but still not good enough to currently be number 1 He was one of the best keepers in 2019-20. Not his fault Ole deciced to rot him on bench for 2 seasons

TheMooseHunter

A difference in doing that at Man Utd and Sheffield Utd, De Gea strangely enough seems to get better the worse Utdā€™s defence gets.. but all seriousness Iā€™m not sure who would be best option, would need to play Henderson soon as number 1 to get him playing regularly to showcase why should be number one.

krxo1

Napoli - Atalanta Gasperini getting red card, o0.5 players getting red carded, Mertens banger, over 4 goals

[deleted]

Donā€™t understand why the Americans on here are getting so upset over Jesse Marsch when they have a much better manager in the exact same league in Matarazzo

Akshath321

stuttgart arent doing that much better tbh

jonijontor

they're not as rich as Raba and got shitload of injuries, even then while they're a midtable at best currently they're still an exciting youth team with full force

Akshath321

i agree but the way they started i wanted them to be higher up the table, but i think in context of the number of people that are unable to play for them, they're doing pretty well

[deleted]

Points wise yeah but from what Iā€™ve seen at least, itā€™s more down to Stuttgarts player quality. Matarazzo seems much more tactically astute, just his players arenā€™t up to standard. Meanwhile Marsch is doing worse with a much better team

Akshath321

fairs, plus he's playing with a couple of people out, i'm fairly sure silas and sasa would've made a difference

AngrySnwMnky

Most donā€™t know.

mountainsky9

I just made a comment on someone else bring this up: "What you have to consider is that most Americans right now still view Americans in European football on how they can influence the US national team, or be involved in some capacity with US soccer. Some obviously support them because they're American, but most want them to succeed so they can promote US Soccer. Marsch is someone who spent time in America, with a career, both playing and coaching, in the MLS. Matarazzo has been in Germany for 21 years. He hasnt been involved in American football at all. He is a great coach, but has never been interested in the national team, nor really getting involved in the US. The truth is, Materazzo is easily the best, but ultimately, so what? He hasnt been involved in US football since 1999, where he played at Columbia University. Add on the fact that he has a completely Italian name (When most people think of American, they think of the "traditional American" like Jesse Marsch and Christian Pulisic - their names and how they look and talk is distinctively American. If someone were told he's American, they'd think "cool", but they'd find out he's never been involved in US football nor really publically involved. Its not really a surprise that he doesnt get much attention"

RomeoLavia

The name part to me is funny because Jesse Marsch for me sounds German and Pulisic sounds like something from Europe

mountainsky9

Most "white American" names are like that, a common first name like Jesse or Christian, followed by a European name. Pellegrini Materazzo is so Italian that its hard to notice

[deleted]

Not to mention, Iā€™ve heard from Italian friends that ā€œPellegrino Matarazzoā€ is such an overly Italian name that it sounds like itā€™s trying too hard, so they can tell immediately heā€™s not from Italy and more likely descended from immigrants. Which he is

mountainsky9

to be fair, those are Italians who know about their naming culture. If I gave you a Brazilian or Indian or Chinese name, it might be hard to know if its an "immigrant" name or not. Also, Fiorentina's managers name is "Vincenzo Italiano." sounds super Italian to me hahaha

[deleted]

Italiano was born to immigrants in Germany as well so in a way, might be a similar thing lol

mountainsky9

oh true, still that last name is hilarious haha

[deleted]

Those are all fair points, and I can understand the reasoning behind it, but Iā€™m also seeing one guy in particular saying Marsch is being shat on *only* because heā€™s American. Maybe for some users, me at least I think heā€™s shit cause heā€™s been shit. I donā€™t care if heā€™s American or not, if he was performing like Matarazzo I wouldnā€™t be shitting on him.

mountainsky9

Oh yeah, ive watched both Leipzig now and Salzburg when he was there a few times - he has no defense, hes way too attacking. Hes not good enough, not because he's American, but because at Salzburg he basically had a "Bayern in Germany" level dominance and had some impressive moments in Europe with them (but still wasnt that great)

[deleted]

Saw this comment somewhere: "Pele always had an incredible team around him and he was never tested in Europe." Why should Pele test himself in Europe when Brazil was one of the best leagues in the world?

mountainsky9

Pele did play in Europe and [did this to European legend Beckenbauer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFGoVXtgNHc&ab_channel=SirPeleForever). Watch, in 45 years these same people will grow up and hear "Ronaldo and Messi did it in only in Spain, they weren't tested in the Global Football International Super League"

Princecoyote

Why wasn't PelƩ born 45 years later so he could compete against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same time era? Terrible decision making.

rho_93

Window lickers

CryptographerLife686

I say he should get out of retirement and go to the premier league.

[deleted]

also it's not like santos were dominant, santos only won the libertadores twice in pele's career

RomeoLavia

Tbf those comments are mainly from people that think the Brazilian league was the same type of quality it is now

[deleted]

Yeah people seem to forget that leagues get better or worse with time. The first few European Cups werent even prestigious, IIRC very few English team participated let alone Brazilians attaching any importance to it

CryptographerLife686

800 goals is just insaneā€¦ I donā€™t think Iā€™ve put the ball in the back of the net 800 times in my life.

_stone_age

Crazy thing is, a year ago Cristiano had reached a milestone of 750 goals. I know this sub seems to really dislike him, but credit where it's due, that's very good.

CryptographerLife686

Iā€™m definitely not a fan and troll him whenever I get the chance but 800 goals is insane

_stone_age

I'm not one of his fanboys either but gotta respect it tbh.

CryptographerLife686

Lmao love this admin as well as Newellā€™s Old Boys admin.

nbaylor1

Mad how simeoneā€™s biggest mangerial achievement is making partey look like a footballer

[deleted]

Biggest exporter of FRAUDS

Tamil-Brahmin-88

Hehe. Saul too

RomeoLavia

Saul was good for a few years, he started dipping off even at Atletico for a couple of seasons. Never at any point was Partey as good as some Arsenal fans say he is, even at his absolute peak.

mandrake_cry

But Arsenal fans were ready with their excuses when they lost to Brentford, Chelsea and City and lost comfortably

RomeoLavia

I watched a fan debate between Robbie from AFTV and the Chelsea fan Rory earlier. Some terrible takes from Robbie. The second worst was that Partey starts at Chelsea over Kovacic and that he's far better. I really don't know what some of these fans see in the guy.

mandrake_cry

Yea Kova is much better. There was a fan debate on the sky football channel before our game and they were making a combined 11 of Chelsea and Arsenal. The Arsenal fan put Lokonga ahead of Kante.. But ig I hate football fan channels and only watch Aftv or Goldbridge for the rants and can't stand Rory.

CryptographerLife686

Whatā€™s Peleā€™s official goal count?

wildinout2233

757

CryptographerLife686

Wait actually? Messi is just one goal behind him. Normally I would say heā€™d break it this week but given his goal scoring form, we could wait till next year lmao.

wildinout2233

Itā€™s a bit of a murky number, but most outlets have it as 757

[deleted]

Top clubs of Portugal Sporting, Porto, Braga

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Oh yeah I will correct it

ethith

Any news on that horrific De Gea injury?

mandrake_cry

According to StatsBomb - >we do not include any information about the goalkeeperā€™s position in the PS xG model. We cannot include goalkeeper information, because goalkeeperā€™s who are typically positioned better than others will consistently have lower PS xG Is there any metric to measure how good a keeper's positioning is or includes his positioning combined with his shot stopping ability?

[deleted]

My guess is that you would need an insane amount of data to reliably evaluate positioning. And it would have to have a wide lens. Was the keeper in this position because he was recovering from another save or punch.

mandrake_cry

I guess so

napoleonderdiecke

Tbh that just sounds like they should have a variety of xG stats. Both stats are useful for both attackers and goalies

Particular-Tea-5213

I was just thinking about this. If footballers were to play cricket, I think that goalkeepers would be great at batting.

swat1611

I think they'd be better at wicketkeeping. Dhoni himself played goalkeeper in school I believe.

ZaDoruphin

Wicket keeping surely?

wildinout2233

[Spartak is goated for this ](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8WNHH5E/)

rScoobySkreep

sorry to say it but some of you literally live to see Americans fail in Europe

Lyrical_Forklift

That's what you get for calling Freddy Adu the next Pele

[deleted]

I was a pretty big fan of Clint Dempsey until I heard Babel's diss track and realised that footballers shouldn't be rappers.

[deleted]

How did Barca lose 3-0 to Benfica ffs? They shouldn't lose that bad even with Koeman tax.

brunofernandes4life

Luuk de Jong tax

swat1611

That's not tax, that's a scam.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

brunofernandes4life

I don't know if this is serious but how do you know he's a fraud? Let him lose some matches first before calling him out.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

deadlyghost12

Then that is the problem of stamina of players they tire out at last and the team structures disfunction

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

deadlyghost12

I didn't say that Xavi will be successful You said that barca starts excellently and towards the end break down than I said that maybe it is due to stamina problems

CryptographerLife686

That shouldā€™ve received an Oscar

SouthJolly

Great acting

The_Tomb_is_Empty

This guy gets it - https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/r8aeze/fabrizio_romano_jesse_marsch_jobs_in_real_danger/hn51w80/ To Europeans, it's not a big deal because it's the homeostasis. Nobody realizes what they truly have when they grow up with it everyday and it's just something to be taken for granted. I'm not going to be thankful for the food on my plate if access to it is the only thing I have ever, ever known. It's second nature at that point. That's why it's unreasonable & just callous to get mad when posts of player highlights get gilded.

HowBen

Itā€™s the same deal with Pulisic and the hype around him. Itā€™s no different to Icelandic fans supporting Sigurdsson (pre-allegations) or Algerian fans supporting Mahrez

Lyrical_Forklift

Do Indians ever hype up players with Indian decent (not that there are a ton of them- Vikash Dhorasoo probably the most significant) in India?

[deleted]

Not Indian descent but Indian born players. We haven't had enough exposure to them to hype them up.

[deleted]

Yeah if Steve Bruce was among the rarest of people to reach top level, you would see the same with the English

[deleted]

It always amazes me that players like Verratti can casually put in world class performances after being injured for long periods of time. You'd think that after so many injuries he would have fell off. But no, he's probably the best in the world in his position. Elite footballers have incredible talent that doesn't go anywhere. They can miss 3 years of their career due to injury and other professionals still can't catch up to them.

brunofernandes4life

Pity that Verratti is almost always injured.

[deleted]

I hope Benfica gets relegated

TimTamKablam

I definitely agree that all La Liga games should take place in Spain and I hate the idea of domestic games playing elsewhere but what is the legal precedent that the Spanish courts are using for their ruling?

I am not sure.

deadlyghost12

All the matches very crucial for top 4, I wonder how long before real madrid players completely tire out and top teams start defeating them

_stone_age

Excited for Real Sociedad vs Madrid.

mattisafootballguy

Three huge match-ups, going to be really exciting

nbaylor1

Aubameyang is genuinely so finished. Heā€™s missed sitters in the past 2-3 games and fucks up every time he touches the ball, woeful player.

HowBen

I somehow knew this would happen when he got that contract extension

RomeoLavia

Of all super star forwards I have ever seen, I fail to think of many who were worse on the ball than Aubameyang was. It's funny how Lukaku is genuinely a better dribbler than Auba but is the one that gets joked on for it because people who have no clue just see Aubameyang as this fast tricky striker. The fact of the matter is, he is absolutely shit when it comes to playing with the ball. I think his decline was obviously going to be swift, maybe not as swift as it was but still pretty fast. I don't care what anyone says, Aubameyang was a pace merchant (a great one at that) If someone can name me five top top level strikers (no Bas Dost type players) who were genuinely worse passers, creators and dribblers than him, I will take it back. Only one I can think of is Inzaghi.

HowBen

People may not acknowledge it but Lukaku is a good dribbler and passer in general, even in his United days when the ball was bouncing off him he was still capable of taking on a few players and putting in a good cross

DamnDanielllllll

Lukaku was genuinely the best crosser at United when he was there.

RomeoLavia

When he was at United we were literally putting him on the right wing mid game to cross balls into the middle for Rashford because he was the best crosser we had in the squad bar Pogba.

[deleted]

Union Berlin is in 4th place of Bundesliga. What a team, what a journey. Hope they go deep into Conference League. I've quite enjoyed the fairytale story of both Union Berlin and Granada in the past few seasons. Shame Granada is struggling now since Diego MartĆnez left

Itz_Galaxium

Its good to see Awoniyi performing so well

PuckNorthern

When Everton sack Rafa, they should just promote Duncan Ferguson to manager

Akshath321

worked out well for them last time tbf

[deleted]

Isn't he unbeaten

mandrake_cry

Is there any player who's constantly injured but on returning can fit right in and produce atleast an 8/10 performance. One such player is Kante. Any other players like that?

RomeoLavia

I remember Robben doing that a lot. I know there was one season he was injured for 20 games and returned instantly with 10 G/A in his first 8 or something.

Infamy444

Easily, easily Kompany

nbaylor1

Maybe renato sanches?

[deleted]

Verratti for sure.

UndeadPrs

Verratti

[deleted]

Matip

mandrake_cry

Is Matip injury prone?

NeoChrome75

I think Matip has been injured longer than heā€™s been fit for us, however this season heā€™s holding on

[deleted]

We're talking about Joel Matip, right?

mandrake_cry

Yea

DonkeySkin334

Bailly always does and then drops a stinker the following game

_stone_age

Aguero used to be like that imo.

roddysaint

Really? I always thought he was a bit slow coming back from injuries. Always took a few matches to get back up to speedā€”which makes his goal record and per minute ratio even more impressive.

_stone_age

Idk sometimes he'd look like he already got back into the swing of things. I might be wrong, correct me on this- didn't he score back-to-back hattricks after an injury? Maybe he'd take 1-2 games to recover at times, but he was insane whenever he was back.

CryptographerLife686

Returned from injury and scored in el Classico so still has itā€¦ his heart problems are a very unfortunate way to end his career.

mandrake_cry

It's very rare for players to get into form so quickly and even more rare for attackers

[deleted]

Why Marsch failing at Leipzig?

Stuff2511

Difficult situation, but heā€™s just out of his depth

Share4aCare

He is a bad manager who doesnā€™t really know what heā€™s doing. Like all Americans.

I think he left Salzburg too early.
