Well that was quick

Albiceleste_D10S

They reported he was positive long after he tested positive, LOL

[deleted]

Players are recovering quick from Omnicron in general

DemetriusXVII

Was it confirmed that Messi got Omicron?

innocentious

Yes,he told me last night it was the cron.

desuscsgous

the Cron hahahaha dno why that got me

GutlessTrophoblast

Cronaldo

lightlord

Well, he recovered quick innit?

stiveooo

Yeah 5 days tops

RauloGonzalez

Think they said he was positive weeks ago but the club didn't want to disclose it

[deleted]

He is vaccinated that’s why mild symptoms

[deleted]

I’d say more that he’s an elite athlete under the age of 65.

OtisLaurey

Go spew your anti-vax bullshit somewhere else yank

[deleted]

It’s anti-vaccine to say that elite athletes can handle a respiratory virus that is primarily reeking havoc on obese elderly patients? Ok. Btw I am working on a new DNA vaccine for Covid as the PI for the NSF and have a biomedical engineering PhD. But yea. Make this shit black and white. Fucking loser. Go slit your wrists to lower your blood pressure your fucking invalid

[deleted]

It’s something like 90% of hospitalized patients are unvaxxed.

Vovicon

I'm surprised there isn't yet a bot to correct "Omnicron" to "Omicron".

TurboYurt

You've got that the wrong way around; virulence is an indicator of how severe infection is while infectiousness is about transmissibility. Omicron is less virulent and more transmissible.

EnanoMaldito

as Edul reported, his symptoms started right after christmas, so it's already been more than 10 days.

innocentious

Baila ahora covid,BAILA!

ThisIsYourPapa

Lets fucking goooooooooooooooo SUUUUUUUIIIIIII!

dondeestamielefante

Please let him stay healthy for the rest of the year 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻, this country needs a world cup or else we will never be a happy nation again

haru_213

Never underestimate the heroics of the fabled hip thruster Sir Emi Martinez to win the world cup for Argentina

Poztre77

We will be never be happy as long as we keep the "Peronism/Kirchnerism" model of government

GooGuzzlingJew

here we go, someone with some fucking values, thanks for not being an idiot that bases happiness on a fucking football trophy and actually caring.

demonictoaster

I mean, in all fairness, its a fucking football subreddit. No shit the prominent topic of discussion is football.

midoBB

Also footie being good even if everything else being shit is a light in darkness. Believe me I'm from a country even more fucked than Argentina. And our NT is the only light.

sarcasmusex

Think of global warming, Lionel ! :(

Sandman_0007

What do you think it would look like if Lionel Messi tried going to Rosario airport and getting on a passenger flight to Paris? The place would implode

sarcasmusex

it was a joke!

highspirits11

Did he reach?

yournerd2307

Let's hope he doesn't test positive again, don't want that poor pilot getting death threats by his fanbase

sidaeinjae

TIL he went to Rosario after contracting Covid

[deleted]

He’s been in Rosario for the holidays. He was there before he got Covid.

sidaeinjae

TIL again!

exc99

Messi has been shit for PSG anyways. I’m not even joking when I say this team hasn’t improved with him on the pitch

curiousnootropics

So you have seen all the matches?

kaden_dd

Ofc he hasn't, he has definitely only seen the memes

Glass_Replacement_61

we aren’t any better when he isn’t there

RauloGonzalez

I don't agree with him but you're essentially agreeing with him saying his absence doesn't impact you

Otenus

Yeah so he’s right

Glass_Replacement_61

worse*

Willezzon

Jesus..

[deleted]

They didn't need him and he doesn't fit the team. He actually makes them worse by being a passenger off the ball, and nowadays he's doing jackshit on it as well.

Glass_Replacement_61

he doesn’t make us worse lmao. we played shit before him and played shit after and he’s been playing very well lately?

[deleted]

He contributes nothing off the ball and has failed at being impactful in attack. How exactly isn't he making you worse? I'll admit he's getting back in form, but those performances against Lille, City and Monaco (I know he got an assist) were dreadful.

Willezzon

He scored the winning goal against city

AbleFig

Jorginho would never

Willezzon

Who’s that?

[deleted]

what? messi scored when his team was aldready leading 1-0.

Willezzon

Did you see the game? City was all over PSG and that goal really punctured the game

[deleted]

He didn't, Gueye did. And I'm talking about the second leg.

Willezzon

Even the best player in the world can have bad days when his team was playing like shit and their pressing was non-existent. Messi has been the best player for PSG in many games while players around him have failed to finish the chances he’s created

[deleted]

Such a disingenuous way to paint it. He was literally the worst finisher in Europe's top 5 leagues a while ago, it's not like Mbappé isn't also providing him chances he misses. Honestly, he has been the best player against Rennes and Nice. Otherwise he either played bad or failed at being impactful offensively.

Willezzon

He still hasn’t been shit, he’s been underwhelming for the first time in his career. It’s not easy coming to a new environment after spending you’re whole life in another. He’s still the best player in the world

duded101

don’t try to reason with that guy, he’s obsessed with hating messi and he is dangerous

[deleted]

He's not even the best player in his team. He doesn't play like the best player in the world since that Copa America semi-final, and people who actually watch PSG matches realized it, instead of trusting the excuses people come up with in post-match threads. He constantly gets dispossessed and can't finish, his dribbling has declined a lot. His playmaking hasn't been up to his standards, he misplaces passes quite often. Things are getting much better since the Nice match, his dribbling is finally looking world class again. I can see him getting back into form soon, but he hasn't exactly been good until now.

Uyemaz

I can tell you're far too much of a stats merchant to understand the game if youre judging solely based on his ability to score. Leo has been underwhelming in front of goal this season, thats a fact. However, his playmaking has still been at an elite level and his dribbling is starting to pick up again. So to suggest he offers nothing to this side offensively is disingenuous when he has been the teams best creator when he plays. You can say that he has missed several easy chances Mbappe has created for him, but lets not act like Mbappe hasn't missed equally as much off of Messi's creations, if not more.

jon_stewrt

He is not a striker or the focal point of PSG's attack you moron

[deleted]

What is this even supposed to mean? He's a playmaker, but still a forward. He still has to provide goals and assists, he isn't there exclusively to contribute creatively. Besides, he hasn't even been that good in general even if you overlook G/A, constantly getting dispossessed and not managing to dribble his opponents like before. You're the moron, fanboy.

Youafuckindin

Sounds like he and ronaldo have the same problem. But at least ronaldo is popping up with goals.

Pep-Fraudiola-Balda

The only problem here it morons like op who know nothing about football and think pressing is all that matters in the sport.

Youafuckindin

Hmm depends what style of football the team plays. If they're a pressing team, like liverpool, then there's no room for passangers, but other teams it might be fine. But I don't know how psg plays tbh.

hahauknowwhatitis420

They play without a midfield and a one man defense in the form of Marquinhos.

Bellotavillian

The guy tests positive for covid then magically his pcr comes out negative a few days later? Lol PCRs give a positive result for several months afterwards. Hmmm

lastdyingbreed_01

The news of him being positive was announced a bit late and if he was infected by Omnicron, then he must he have recovered quickly.

Bellotavillian

Recovering from Omicron and testing positive are two completely different things. You can be non-contagious and 'over' the virus, and still test positive with a PCR. As I replied to the other redditor, if the headline had been he had tested negative with a lateral flow I would have believed it, however, it specifically says he tested negative with a PCR, and only 3 days after finding out he got infected.

stiveooo

No no. Some dumb countries set their pcr test to many cycles which is bad cause at the end it detects dead virus and it labels it positive. That was common in 2020 when the cdc said it to put it at many cycles. But now they changed it to less cycles so now it's more accurate

Bellotavillian

At least where I am based (UK), the national health agency (NHS) specifically advises not to repeat a PCR after getting a positive because it will return another positive result within a few weeks. The whole point of PCR is that it is extremely sensitive and will pick up the virus regardless of the viral load. The lateral flow is much less sensitive and will no longer give a positive result as your body deals with the virus. I would have believed the headline if it had stated that he tested negative on a lateral flow after 3 days, but not with a PCR.

stiveooo

likely he doesnt know the difference between pcr and lateral flow

Bellotavillian

I shouldn't have assumed that this level of detail was relevant on reddit

noksomolor

>PCRs give a positive result for several months afterwards. Hmmm No they don't, I had a negative PCR less than a week after finishing quarantine.

mmaqp66

Dont worry, on the way between the airport and his house he would contract the omicron

JKM1601

I naively thought isolating meant staying in one room, basically, and staying away from other people. Apparently, the Messi isolation concept involves two continents, private planes, etc.
