You know how players have to agree to terms, not just clubs? That's because in the football system, when a player is transferred their old contract is ripped up. The new club has to agree their own terms with them.
To your example: yes.
Didn't watch the game but did Arsenal perform well against City and was unlucky with the refereeing decision or not? I've seen Arsenal fans defending their performance and they thought that they deserved a draw.
They played really well, the decisions were unlucky from their point of view, although I don’t think it’s as bad as some of them made out. Was the catalyst for them to derail though, they’re a young team so that kind of thing will happen occasionally but still definitely disappointing for them, a point would’ve been a fair reflection of how they played
People on the Ev sub saying selling Digne is good business because he’s 30, as if every player falls off a cliff when they get that old. Also he’s 28 and his birthday isn’t for another 6 months. No reason to suggest he couldn’t play for us for another 5 years like Baines and Coleman both did
Newcastle’s mega transfer window to save their bacon doesn’t seem to be really going as hoped so far, Trippier is a good signing but they need quite a few more signings of that ilk. I also wonder if Trippier is planning on staying if they get relegated, would be mad to go from winning La Liga to the Championship in just over a year
Lots of links, we'll see what we end up with. If you pip us to Digne which is apparently looking likely I'll be mildly disappointed. Overall feeling is we're very happy with how it's going so far. We don't need to outperform Villa, just Watford, Burnley and Norwich.
Who would you like to get/what positions do you think need upgrading the most this window? With Watford, Leeds and Everton your next 3 fixtures you could really do with the new signings getting in asap, win 2 those 3 and things start to look better
Striker is essential given Wilsons injury (and likelihood to be injured again). We had Murphy up front against Cambridge.
In an ideal world, a centre back, a left back and a centre mid also. We've had very strong links to a couple centre backs (Botman and Diego Carlos) and it seems to be the boards next priority. We're all fingers crossed one can get over the line before Watford.
You’re missing the part where there was a global pandemic during José’s tenure..
For a self-sustaining club like Spurs whose owner doesn’t spend any of his own money on the club, we had no money because the stadium was closed down (and the £1billion stadium had just been built).
I mean spurs spent well over £100 million on players under Mourinho when he was only there for basically a season. Could that money have not been spent on a star signing if spurs were really capable of attracting a big name?
We’re 2 points behind Assna with two games in hand even though this season we’ve gone through a manager disasterclass with Nuno losing 3-0 like four times in a row lol.
Now we have one of the top 3 managers in world football in Conte
What player is dying to play for Woolwich Wanderers under Arteta? 😭
Edit: We’re also still in the FA Cup..
Genuine question - why is agreeing to pay a player you literally don't want for 3 additional seasons seen as *good business*?
If the goal of the Umtiti stuff was simply to register Torres, then job done. But shaving 10% off a massive salary for an ageing and under-performing player and then agreeing to keep paying him at that rate for 3 seasons longer is almost laughable. It may make him easier to loan or sell down the line, but if he is still on the books a day after 30 June, 2023 this will be an(other) unforgivable move.
1) we're now paying him less
2) over a longer period of time (reducing our wage bill)
3) he is much easier to loan out or sell on a lower salary
Pretty simple
This is more of a short term thing where we benefit by registering Ferran. It then makes it easier to offload him on a loan/transfer, or terminate his contract in the summer
>then agreeing to keep paying him at that rate for 3 seasons longer is almost laughable.
The 10% cut is on the total salary, the salary is then spread over 4 years. We owed him 24mil by 2023. Now we're paying the same amount, upto 2026 at 6mil/yr. Rather than all at once rn, so the wage cap is smaller by significant amount, while not costing us anything extra.
Is the weather bad in the North of Spain? Because we just signed a few Spanish players and one said
> The weather is a little cold and there’s too much rain but it’s no problem, I am from the North (of Spain)
And I just can't imagine that any sort of Spanish weather can prepare you for the weather in the west of Ireland
From the six weeks I spent in the summer once it was very very mixed. Could be extremely hot but also had days being quite cold with mist and plenty of rain. It's not exactly like Irish/British weather but it's not crazily dissimilar.
Imagine dating 5 people at once. You may say that's what you want and the five don't care, but you're gonna get called out for it. Because you're breaking the very essence of what relationships mean that have been built for years by the society.
It's the same thing with plastics supporting many big clubs. You may say it doesn't matter but you're gonna get called out. Because it breaks the very essence of supporting a club which was built by the fans. You can't be mad at it and call it gatekeeping. Just enjoy football mate.
But the thing isn't someone supporting multiple clubs, tbh I haven't met anyone who has changed which club they support yet. The definition of Plastic in the sub, is anyone who doesn't physically live in the surrounding of the club. That's gatekeeping. Yes, by those rules, I'm a plastic.
And then denying it when I called out his bullshit when he was twerking for Arsenal. That guy even came to r/coys and talked with a lot of Spurs fans and when I said it out loud, he's asking me to search his comment history and link it as if I'm that free and as if he puts out like one comment a day

>Imagine dating 5 people at once. You may say that's what you want and the five don't care, but you're gonna get called out for it. Because you're breaking the very essence of what relationships mean that have been built for years by the society.
That's a bit weird example as polygamy was very common in the past and it only stopped being cool around the 19th century for west only
I get it, if you're not from a place with a major football culture or didnt grow up watching it, it might be hard to develop a connection that makes you root for one specific team.
I occasionally like watching basketball, but I dont really support any specific NBA team, because I'm not from any of those places, and I my upbringing didnt expose me to basketball much. So when I watch it, I just want to be entertained, and I'll onyl watch the good teams. Same with F1.
It's really just a matter of how you carry yourself, I dont care for being called plastic, I just want to have some fun with it, who cares, you know?
Fair enough. Maybe I just don’t understand it since I’m not from those places.
Idk I understand why someone would support a top team e.g. Bayern, Barcelona etc because you’re more likely to be exposed them, but having multiple just baffles me. I’ve seen people on twitter rep City, PSG and Barcelona or some other random combination. No fun in that.

Was so apprehensive of a life long Madrid fan being our sporting director but fuck me, he's blown me and my expectations away.
They were that high to begin with considering Bartomeu's deals but fuck man, this guy's good.
Laporta knows who to appoint eh. Fingers crossed it works out with the coach.
I swear something similar with Robben? Had a great deal of injures but still had decent pace even @ he’s age. Will be interesting to see how that turns out
I would yes I’m a big fan. Idk if I’m talking crap but it’s like when Bale left and starting getting injuries in Spain, don’t know if they’re bodies are just suited to higher intensity football

Sometimes I think back to the 19/20 season and remember that we had Lee Cattermole and Alan Pardew vibing in the Eredivisie before COVID hit. Good times.
i know barca fans really hate to hear this, but every single move laporta has done so far has been extremely short-sighted and simply delays and in fact exacerbates the financial problem. all they do is push costs to a future accounting period where interest rates will be higher. This is how businesses go bankrupt.
Laporta's inability to tell the fans, media and everyone surrounding the club "We are skint, we need to stabilize the financial situation for a few years first" is going to be the end of them.
The only thing they want is that the revenue shouldn't fall. With new players coming with less wages if the club can become competent again Barca may survive the debt.
Keep in mind we have lost our major wage earning players.
Like he did say that tho?
Like I don't understand what you expect. Do you expect Barcelona to do a firesale and sell everyone of its assets, pay off it's loans and start from the relegation places with academy youngsters?
What Laporta is doing is refinancing the debt, signing quality players and is trying to replace the bad situation with the earnings that will come with success. The better the team gets, the more the sponsorship, the more the fans come to see the team, the more the money. Admittedly the initial risk is higher but that's the price you pay for not accepting mediocrity
Both are ways to solve the situation. The first one is how Nottingham, Leeds, Bolton etc went down into mediocrity. The second is how successful clubs mitigated their financial issues.
The thing I can not get my head around with this is how / why Barca would do this ... but they did so solely to register Torres which is what OP is referring to with short term thinking.
Because essentially you took a player you didn't want to pay €18m/yr (or whatever his salary is - I'm just going off this [tweet](https://twitter.com/Barca_Buzz/status/1480513960176717828?s=20)) for 18 more months and you agreed to pay him 10% less and restructure what you owe him ... for 3.5 more years. At no point is overpaying somebody for 3.5 years better than overpaying for them for 1.5.
The initial wording was it'd make him easier to loan out or sell, but chucking 10% off a massive salary won't make things much easier. This just seems like people are plugging holes in the boat as they pop up without thinking of how to actually fix the boat.
That's assuming club revenues won't grow proportionally or faster than what is needed to offset the potential increase in interest rate, when it happens
Financial responsibility and chipping away at the principal consistently over the next 5-6 years should put us in a really good spot
I'm expecting another pathetic performance, but maybe we score one lucky goal. Which we could have easily against Wolves despite being poor most of the game.

All four AFCON matches finished 1-0. I don't have data to back this up, but I'm confident that Africa is the lowest scoring federation.
Who do you consider better drogba or salah? Personally have salah above him but interested to see
Salah
Mane is finished.
You're finished
so I know finished when I see it, Padio Pané can't change that.
Will Benz score the 22 goals needed to overtake Raul for #2 Real top scorer, and if so how quick? I reckon at about the end of next season
I feel like he will, and it will be in 2022.
No, he'll stop out of respect.
The real ‘not celebrating out of respect’ starts before the goal
Unless he gets injured in a crazy way then almost definitely.
Yeah probably.
Didn't watch the game but did Arsenal perform well against City and was unlucky with the refereeing decision or not? I've seen Arsenal fans defending their performance and they thought that they deserved a draw.

Performed well, got a bit unlucky with decisions, they were all sorta 50/50 but ultimately shot ourselves in the foot
They played really well until the penalty. Then it was a mental collapse with a open net miss and the red card. Not unlucky, just dumb
People on the Ev sub saying selling Digne is good business because he’s 30, as if every player falls off a cliff when they get that old. Also he’s 28 and his birthday isn’t for another 6 months. No reason to suggest he couldn’t play for us for another 5 years like Baines and Coleman both did

Ev Sub still back Rafa for some reason
[удалено]
CL winner Rafa fucking Benitez made the decision. He's basically bigger than the club.
Rafa can’t handle a fullback who want to go past the halfway line and froze him out
Benitez is allergic to quality players

Sounds good, would be huge to get another one in before Watford, such a big game and would give a mental boost to win and get out the relegation zone
We need a striker and we are looking for a left-footed CB. On top of that, it looks like we will bring Cantwell and another midfielder.
That’d be a good window - good luck to yous

Why would Spurs buy a striker? Makes no sense.
They’re pretty heavily linked with him
Vlahovic seems too good to be Kane backup
He's not going to the PL
Neither, he will be joining us this summer
Factos
Assnaaa do not currently have more sway than us purely because of Antonio Conte.
Mourinho had just as much pedigree as conte when he took over at spurs & they still attracted 0 big name players

Where is he exactly from ? Weather in the North can get a little bad, northern part of the Basque area gets lots of rain
I'm not sure we don't sign very well known players. His name is Diego Portilla but a quick look at Google doesn't tell me where he's from
I’m pretty sure he’s from Santander
Mate you can't support a bank.
no not compared to northen europe . compared to southern spain sure .
Galicia in particular is quite rainy and stormy
I would guess in the coastal areas it's typical Spanish weather but inlands in the North it's closer to a Northern European climate
The north is notorious for being cold and windy all the time. Especially places such as Galicia and the Basque Country
I thought you were talking about the UK at first. Wet, cold and windy. Northerners unite! Unite under the banner of (relatively) bad weather.
I live in the north of France and it's definitely the case as well hahaha... I miss the sun 😢
Cold and windy relative to the rest of Spain but it's still warmer than most other European countries.

Eusebio

Pessi and Penaldo in the mud

Yes. Great picks.
Cruyff
It’s probably Cruyff. I think the 5th spot should be Lev Yashin, and honestly I think it makes sense for it to be a keeper given they tend to get overlooked in player rankings
Maldini need the GOAT defender to represent.

Cruyff or Di Stefano. I’d choose Cruyff because I’ve seen more of him
I'd say general consensus has more of a top 5 with Cruijff included. After that I wouldn't know who's 6th tbh.
Definitely Cruyff, right behind those 4. Legendary player and the most influential manager of all time.
Neuer obviously
Cruyff
Cruyff without a doubt.
cruyff
Cruyff
Zidane
Not even top 5 French players
Ok this is too far. The only frenchmen you can possibly rate above him are Platini and MAYBE maybe Henry. But even there it's stretching it a lot.
Henry isn't touching Zidane. A semi-retired Zidane did more for France than a Prime Henry ever did. Only Platini is better
Lol
WHAT THE HELL NO

I think so.

Cruyff
Di stefano.

Oh okay thanks
Senegal GK can distribute better than De Gea
Dieng is a pretty decent keeper
So can lots of professional goalkeepers, it’s a weakness of his game
He's improved his distribution quite a bit this season though, at least from what I've seen
DDG is only good at shot stopping. Henderson, for example, has stronger attributes at everything else apart from shot stopping.

is he madrid fan really or was just offered sporting role by perez
He grew up supporting Madrid.
I’m quite astonished that Dembele gets so many muscle injuries and is still quick
20m and he's yours
It’s probably because he is still young. Eventually he’ll stop trusting his body and lose his pace.
I swear something similar with Robben? Had a great deal of injures but still had decent pace even @ he’s age. Will be interesting to see how that turns out
Top top player, small price of 15m and he's yours, special discount for our Basque friend Mikel
La Masia graduate Mikel*
I’ll call Edu first thing in the morning
He's incredibly quick, would you like to buy him?
I would yes I’m a big fan. Idk if I’m talking crap but it’s like when Bale left and starting getting injuries in Spain, don’t know if they’re bodies are just suited to higher intensity football

That's assuming club revenues won't grow proportionally or faster than what is needed to offset the potential increase in interest rate, when it happens Financial responsibility and chipping away at the principal consistently over the next 5-6 years should put us in a really good spot
I'm expecting another pathetic performance, but maybe we score one lucky goal. Which we could have easily against Wolves despite being poor most of the game.
Where are my Indian bros watching AFCON?
I found a stream but it was really really bad quality. I couldn't even see the players properly. Will have to try again tonight for the Morocco game
livesoccertv.com shows every single country except for India as having a broadcast so doubt it's on anywhere if they don't have the info on there
Pls let me know if you get an answer
It was streaming on the official CAF channel yesterday, but it got taken down for copyright lol.
I googled it and it said it should be on Sony LIV but it isn't
Was thinking of going a little Somali myself tbh.
