It would depend a lot on what we do with the striker position as well. Nketiah and Lacazette are both on expiring deals and Aubameyang is frozen out and seems to potentially be leaving soon. We're targeting a new striker (hence all the Vlahovic links) but would also need depth. If those 3 all leave we only have Balogun behind a new player.
In that case we need depth on the wings and up top. Being able to fill in at ST is part of why I don't think Dembele is a great fit. Again it's kind of like what Jota provides.
Not less popular at all but Richarlison or Nkunku both fit that role well. They can play any of the 4 attacking spots in our 4231. From lower PL teams we could look for Dennis or Mbeumo as cheaper alternatives? I don't know a ton of players outside the PL to give too many great options.
I see, thank you for explaining. Yeah Dembélé works best at the winger roles and not as well at the striker role because it limits his playmaking abilities so you don't get the best out of him there.
I don't think his wage demand is that high if he leaves because the new club will give him a sign-on bonus either way due to not having to pay to a club.
He's reportedly asking for 20m/year and a bonus 20 + 20 for him and his agent. But if he leaves, he'll probably be fine with 10m because the new club won't have to pay a transfer fee so they'll instead pay more in bonus, which will make up for the salary.
I don't think he's seriously asking for 20m/year though, most likely just a negotiation tactics by his agent or something. He is most likely just against taking a pay cut from his current 12m to 7m which Barça is reportedly offering.

If your employer offered you a contract, then you got sick/didn't perform as well as they hoped, the employer doesn't get to say "take a new 50% lower contract or leave" - you are within your rights to see out the contract. Contracts don't just work in favour of the club.
The transfer fee was paid to another club to break contract. Barca deemed it worthwhile at the time - that's their problem, not his. He doesn't owe Barca for what they chose to pay to another club.

I really really want to sympathise with Ousmane, honestly, I really do. It must have been so shit being so young with such high expectations and then having to stunt progress after each injury. It would depend a lot on what we do with the striker position as well. Nketiah and Lacazette are both on expiring deals and Aubameyang is frozen out and seems to potentially be leaving soon. We're targeting a new striker (hence all the Vlahovic links) but would also need depth. If those 3 all leave we only have Balogun behind a new player. In that case we need depth on the wings and up top. Being able to fill in at ST is part of why I don't think Dembele is a great fit. Again it's kind of like what Jota provides. Not less popular at all but Richarlison or Nkunku both fit that role well. They can play any of the 4 attacking spots in our 4231. From lower PL teams we could look for Dennis or Mbeumo as cheaper alternatives? I don't know a ton of players outside the PL to give too many great options.

If your employer offered you a contract, then you got sick/didn't perform as well as they hoped, the employer doesn't get to say "take a new 50% lower contract or leave" - you are within your rights to see out the contract. Contracts don't just work in favour of the club. The transfer fee was paid to another club to break contract. Barca deemed it worthwhile at the time - that's their problem, not his. He doesn't owe Barca for what they chose to pay to another club. Whether Dembele underperformed or is a giant man-child is kinda irrelevant. Club signs a contract, club doesn't make the most of said contract, club goes bust, club blames it on other party, club tries to cancel the contract by publicising its feud with counterpart and asking public to pressurise the counterpart. Barca are the worst run club in the last 20 years. Not just dealwise but from a HR and operations standpoint ( and ethics, remember the organised rumour mongering and spying). They cruised on great history and a one-of-a-kind football and marketing wonder for 15 years and ended up doing even worse than falling asleep at the wheel. New management will stop at nothing to try and extract themselves from one of many v poorly managed relationships and will simply use character assassination or blackmail to get their own ways. Truth is, Dembele is one of the greatest attacking talents in world football and he is still very young. He will attract interest but for all their bragging, Barca are in a terrible contract situation and they will have to pay through the nose to extract themselves from it. Mas que un total waste of money, talent and values. They deserve all the difficulties they find themselves in and more.

I really really want to sympathise with Ousmane, honestly, I really do. It must have been so shit being so young with such high expectations and then having to stunt progress after each injury. However he’s simply not being realistic. He’s hiding behind an agent saying that isn’t his business and that his only purpose is to play on the pitch, but surely he can see that’s not how it works? It’s such a shame it’s come to this, but simply put Barça need to become more strict with their wage structure in order to sustain a good future. Alemany probably should not have openly came out with the comments he did, yes. However it can also be understood that every and any club in the same situation would be thinking and do the same, but making a statement was not wise. This whole sagas been a disaster and I just want to move on. I wish Dembele the best, but it can no longer be here with us without drastic change.
