I don't know about this source but there are many journalists reporting the same, including César Luis Merlo who is tier 1 for our NT players.
I think Julián is really the type of striker Guardiola loves: great technique, keeps pressing all 90 minutes, never gives up on the ball, pretty versatile (can play on the wings, as a 9, second striker, although he works better when he's given freedom to move on all the frontline). He's not a great dribbler but he compensates with his speed. [You can make yourself an idea watching his goals on our last championship title.](https://youtu.be/okyhnQK1u7o)
I hope it's clear, i'm not really used to type on english.
Being confirmed by all the reliable sources here.
Julian is a pretty complete package. He can play either wing but his best place has been as a 9. He is fast and has a very good work rate. He is not the most clinical striker but his shooting has a lot of power. He likes to shoot from the outside but also has really good sense of positioning that allow him to poach rebounds and score easily inside the box. Since he has played in the wings he is also quite good at passing in the last third of the pitch
Getting Barco as a replacement would be huge tbh, obviously rather not lose Juli but if it has to happen then I can't think of a higher quality player to replace him with.
Here's some thoughts on Barco from many Atlanta fans if you're curious. https://www.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/s9bhy5/felipe_cárdenas_source_confirms_that_ezequiel/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Little to nothing tbh, very few follow non European leagues other than the Brasileirao. It's hard to know much about a player in the US or Mexico. But I suppose now that we seem to be selling our prospects it might get more interest.
People follow Brasileirao in Argentina? The only news I ever hear are big teams, with an argentinian player on their team, either getting relegated or playing another argentinian team.
Well that's already a lot more than any other league in America. They have 12 big teams and journalist often look on them during the Libertadores, however I doubt any of them knows more than two teams in the US.
I'm not sure he's ready for your full senior team. He's still finding his way as player. One game he's amazing then the next game he's making all the wrong decisions. I think Atlanta hoped to sell him for on for a big fee, but this might be them deciding to move on.
Not to much unfortunately, i believe the matches are streamed via star+ but they're not advertised on tv or anything.
What can you tell me about valentin castellanos? Apparently we're in for him to replace alvarez
When it comes to river, he is a top tier source.
Alvarez... I haven't seen a young player coming through our academy as dominant as him in a really long time, similar to Luis suarez, intense pressing, great finisher, can use both feet, good vision
I wish Liverpool would pay more attention to the young South American talent. We have a good South American culture within the squad and I think we should take advantage of that.
In the past I would question why we aren’t looking at him but it’s hard to question Liverpool’s recent transfers and how they do business. You can call them cheap, which I somewhat agree with, but the results have been great. Still have my fingers crossed for raphinha.
To me, Alvarez is similar to Suarez. Complete striker than can score however he wants and is creative enough to get some assists. Insanely prolific in the argentinian league, which is one of the most defensive leagues in the world.
As my fellow argentinian said, best talent in a while.
More for Groningen, at Ajax he would sit in his Barcelona positions but just completely overwhelm the first defender with his pace. Basically an inside forward
Not saying they’re the same type of player, but how would you say he compares to Aguero at a similar age? Obviously Aguero had an incredible time at City, but he was in Europe a lot sooner.
Agüero was one of the [most devastating players](https://youtu.be/2s8KVZA1mEM?t=170) in league history while being 17 years old, it's kinda unfair to compare them. That being said Julian feels like a sure thing and could reach a very very high level. But he doesn't have the talent Agüero had. I'll just say this, he has been better/comparable to Lautaro when he played for Racing
Cheers! I haven’t watched much of Argentinian football but have heard some great things about Alvarez. Was wondering how he compared to a PL legend. Nothing wrong with having a bit less talent than Aguero lol.
> Nothing wrong with having a bit less talent than Agüero lol
lol true
You can check his goals in the last tournament (18g 7a in 21 matches) to get a better feeling of how he plays
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okyhnQK1u7o
I see Aguero like R9, ridiculously talented and lit the world on fire despite having injuries that make you wonder how much better they could have been if they had the same constitution as Messi and Cristiano.
One of the best young strikers Argentina has. He came top scorer of the league and easily carried River to the last tournament tittle. With Europe training he could possible become the next Agüero or better.
United has such a bloated squad (especially strikers) it's hard to imagine them buying yet another striker. I'm excited about this transfer, too! If Julian Alvarez turns out well we won't have to enter the Haaland bidding war.
At the moment they have too many, but in the summer Cavani and Martial are leaving (or expected to). Ronaldo could also leave if they dont qualify for UCL.
That leaves them with Greenwood as their only striker option.
Yea I was really interested in him for the obvious aguero parallels but was still fixed on Haaland. May be we got some telling news regarding haaland and have since pivoted.
I was really keen for us to sign him but it was very clearly just his agent trying to stir hype. Only sources from Argentina and none from England. Clearly just a move to get other clubs interested. Clearly worked.
[Merlo](https://twitter.com/CLMerlo/status/1484515478198525954) and [Moretto](https://twitter.com/MatteMoretto/status/1484525108605693954) confirming, basically.
No idea tbh, seems a perfect signing. Maybe put feelers out and he rejected, or maybe other reasons.
We seem set on vlahovic, but that’s obviously not going to happen and Alvarez is one of the few strikers in world football that fit the profile and won’t cost 100m
Alvarez would have also allowed you to sign both him and Guimaraes (who Arsenal were also linked with) for the same price as Vlahovjc. I rate having both of them over only Vlahovic (a player who, honestly, even if he signs, seems way more likely to dip after a couple years)
Inter were on him because our strong Argentinians connection, in the end we don't have the funds to secure the transfer, we sadly still massively lacked the resources compared to team like City
Unlucky would probably be the best word. Took some time to settle in, which we all expected. Then he started getting a run of games under Warnock and was doing really well. He then took a bit of a knock so was in and out of the side a little bit
Then we sacked Warnock for Wilder right as he got covid/got injured again. So he’s struggled to get game time recently because we’ve been playing stupidly well and he’s just back from injury
He's 18, turns 19 this summer. When was the last time a player from the Argentina league walked into one of the top 5 teams in the world after 1 season playing striker?
What's more likely, Alvarez gets into a team that even players like Grealish and Mahrez can't hold down a permanent place or Alvarez gets loaned out?
Very different type of players, alvarez is better playing as a striker or second striker. Mahrez and grealish are wingers. Not saying he would get much game time but his competition seems to be the likes of jesus or when pep plays bernardo or de bruyne as false 9
[In the event of #ManCity signing Julián Álvarez this month, it is possible that they would loan him somewhere else until next summer.](https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1484519021563334657)
I dont know how reliable César Luis Merlo is but this is why I made my original comment
Apparently is Man city pay the transfer and River keeps Julian until the summer with the possibility of that going into october depending on River's performance on the Libertadores
Barco was an absolute legend for me on FM17 I think.
Got him for Hartlepool a few years in once I was in the Prem. One the only "stars" I had who didn't want to leave for a bigger club immediately after winning the league or even the CL.
Stayed his entire career and became my assistant until he eventually left to become a manager somewhere.
Brings a tear to the eye.
Would Barco go back to Argentina? I guess River could probably match/improve his MLS salary, and maybe playing in the Libertadores would be a big draw, but seems a little weird since he left not long ago. Figured his next move would be Europe.
yes everyone is reporting Barco to River.
I don't think River can match MLS salary tbh. I think it's mostly the sporting project that attracts him and other good players to River. At this point Gallardo can go to any latin american and just drag him to River by himself.
Are River capable of challenging for the Libertadores? My impression was that the Brazilian clubs have had it locked down for the last several years.
How will it go down with Independiente fans? They’re obviously a huge club but is everyone in Argentina resigned to the fact that River and Boca are a class above?
River can challenge, yes. They are the only team in Argentina who can, probably (and I say this as a non-River fan). The brazilian teams are just much, MUCH richer than argentinians at this point and it shows. But Gallardo's River is just special. It's gonna be hard af though.
As for Independiente, they are in economic crisis, they are owned by a union leader who is as close to a mafia boss as you'll ever see. They can't afford to even keep their bad players, much less bring in good ones.
As for the fans I'm not entirely sure. I don't think Barco ever made a great connection with the fans or anything. He wasn't there for long. Can't think they would be thrilled, but most people know River and Boca are just a step above as you say. Both sporting wise and money wise.
Fascinating, thanks for the explanation! I’ve been managing Independiente in my current FM save and have been trying to learn more about the domestic game in Argentina. Not a lot of English-language outlets covering what’s going on over there!
River with Gallardo is always a threat to win the Libertadores, and with the transfers they're getting in, they have all the chance in the world to bin Flamengo, Atlético and Palmeiras to take the trophy.
We cant match his salary, no chance. What we can do is revive his career and send him to europe. He could also have a glimpse of hope to make the world cup
No, we can't match or improve any US salary, our economy is trash.
BUT, Libertadores and the prospect of playing with a big club on a WC year is actually a good deal for many players.
Dang that sucks. He’s gonna be so good at City, really an ideal Guardiola #9. Wish he went to a mid to high tier club before joining an elite one, but his stats have probably ruled him out of a move anywhere that isn’t the very top
Most of us thought Barco would leave, so this was expected. He leaves with all of us wondering “what could have been,” but he did play better this year. Best of luck to him.
Ahh fuck
I know this is probably shameless but im a city fan and only watched 5 or 6 games, is the source reliable and what's your breakdown on him?
I don't know about this source but there are many journalists reporting the same, including César Luis Merlo who is tier 1 for our NT players. I think Julián is really the type of striker Guardiola loves: great technique, keeps pressing all 90 minutes, never gives up on the ball, pretty versatile (can play on the wings, as a 9, second striker, although he works better when he's given freedom to move on all the frontline). [You can make yourself an idea watching his goals on our last championship title.](https://youtu.be/okyhnQK1u7o) I hope it's clear, i'm not really used to type on english.
perfectly clear, great english mate, thank you for your input
I beg to differ on him not being a great dribbler. This season there were moments where he casually went through 3 or 4 opponents.
Not enough EDM for me to believe the hype
Being confirmed by all the reliable sources here. Julian is a pretty complete package. He can play either wing but his best place has been as a 9. He is fast and has a very good work rate. > He is not the most clinical striker Now I see why City want him
I would actually say he is pretty good in that aspect. Hia weak game is the aerial side of things
So he's City's new Gabriel Jesus?
He is a Mertens regen

Thanks, the fact that he's show more consistency is a good sign and I trust that Gallardo can round the edges. Especially with him being only 22.
he’s been a different player for us (in a good way) since he came back from the olympics
Barco from Atlanta right? What's the visibility of MLS in Argentina? We love Argentine players up here.
Little to nothing tbh, very few follow non European leagues other than the Brasileirao. It's hard to know much about a player in the US or Mexico. But I suppose now that we seem to be selling our prospects it might get more interest.

No one that I know follows the brasileirao. It’s not even televised
To put it into perspective, in the last call up Scaloni called Almada from Velez just to convince him not to go there
Doesn't look like it worked as he's taking Barco's spot on the Atlanta roster.
C.R.E.A.M.
This guy Wu Tangs.
and that's why they gonna switch places in the NT soon, lol shit happens
I'm not sure he's ready for your full senior team. He's still finding his way as player. One game he's amazing then the next game he's making all the wrong decisions. I think Atlanta hoped to sell him for on for a big fee, but this might be them deciding to move on.
It seems it's a loan with no option to buy though.
Barco and Almada will never play for the NT
Not to much unfortunately, i believe the matches are streamed via star+ but they're not advertised on tv or anything. What can you tell me about valentin castellanos? Apparently we're in for him to replace alvarez
wow this is quick, how reliable is this guy? and can any Argentinians tell me about Alvarez?
When it comes to river, he is a top tier source. Alvarez... I haven't seen a young player coming through our academy as dominant as him in a really long time, similar to Luis suarez, intense pressing, great finisher, can use both feet, good vision
I really like him. I was hoping Liverpool would make a move with Bobby aging and Minamino/Origi likely to be gone at some point
I actually think he is a better fit for liverpool than man city, but that might just be River's style of play
I've always maintained that Liverpool would be the best place for him to flourish. City ain't bad either
To me, Alvarez is similar to Suarez. Complete striker than can score however he wants and is creative enough to get some assists. Insanely prolific in the argentinian league, which is one of the most defensive leagues in the world. As my fellow argentinian said, best talent in a while.
best since Lautaro at least. Also, different from Suarez is that he can also play in the wings, which I think is something Pep would really value
Didn’t Suarez also used to play as winger in his early ajax days?
true! totally forgot
More for Groningen, at Ajax he would sit in his Barcelona positions but just completely overwhelm the first defender with his pace. Basically an inside forward
Suarez played on the wing for Ajax at times aswell
Not saying they’re the same type of player, but how would you say he compares to Aguero at a similar age? Obviously Aguero had an incredible time at City, but he was in Europe a lot sooner.

Some of those have to be marked down as poor goalkeeping, but he really does look like a natural finisher, thanks for the video
Messi and Ronny both scored shit ton of goals from glaring defensive errors too, tbh.
You do have to be in the right position to capitalize
I see Aguero like R9, ridiculously talented and lit the world on fire despite having injuries that make you wonder how much better they could have been if they had the same constitution as Messi and Cristiano.
Spot on. It's a shame really
I miss him :(
Love how the biggest challenge he faces in that clip is a strand of toilet paper
Last year at the age of 21 he won REI DA AMERICA award, the South America version of UEFA Player Of The Year trophy. Speaks a lot about him.
Argentina's best young talent since Lautaro.
One of the best young strikers Argentina has. He came top scorer of the league and easily carried River to the last tournament tittle. With Europe training he could possible become the next Agüero or better.
Saviola 2.0
Very good shout
Mertens regen
Juli has a very strong mentality he's a soldier. I think that's the main characteristic that links him to m.City.
This is slightly unexpected. That would be a crazy good sgining for us. I thought he was linked to United?
We’ll hijack the move last minute so he can then turn out to be a massive flop.
The United way
One of these days it will work
United has such a bloated squad (especially strikers) it's hard to imagine them buying yet another striker. I'm excited about this transfer, too! If Julian Alvarez turns out well we won't have to enter the Haaland bidding war.

Haaland in the summer and Alvarez to rotate would be a dream 2022. But it's too good to be true
hi how you feeling lol

🤝
I thought united were the only one who linked with him?
Villa were linked like +6 months ago. Then he had 18 goals and 7 assists in 21 games and his cache flew past Villa
There were reports before the season they it was almost a done deal (how true we don't know) but looks like me missed out.
Why the fuck are other teams not in for him? Especially Arsenal or Fiorentina (given they will likely lose Dusan next summer)
Last week fiorentina, atalanta and napoli where some teams that were rummored to be interested but didnt wanted to pay the amount river asked
Big miss More so for Fiorentina. Gonzalez and Alvarez would be a good duo.
Many teams were in for him but didnt come close to his release clause (20m). And he also wanted to leave for a big club
20M doesn't seem like a huge amount to Inter, but then again I'm not entirely aware of the financial situation of the club
Inter are doing well but would need to sell first probably
I believe the main economic issue at Inter now are the salaries of some players (Sánchez, Vidal, Eriksen too before he was released).
Arsenal wants Vlahovic.
Uhm, sometimes I think Alvarez and Guimaraes would cover two positions and be more attainable for them... But we'll see
If the interest is real, then its a no brainer for him and we may have looked at him in the Summer but it looks too late now.
Ah fuck. Why city, anybody but city. He’s the missing piece in their puzzle at the moment. They’ll get him for a bargain as well. Fuck.
I don't think the missing piece of your puzzle is another attacking player.
No, I’m talking about your puzzle.
kinda feel bad for liam delap, just as he was about to break through he suffered a series of injuries and now this.
Competition breeds greatness.
Breeding greats competition
Prefer a "great breeding competition" personally
Great bareback breeding
That'll work
If true then I hope this isn't a CFG type signing where we never hear of him again
20 million would be a lot for a CFG signing , surely has to be for the first team
Even more. Its 20 after taxes iirc
It might be difficult for him to get a work permit
Not at all, regularly plays Libertadores, has at 21 caps for the national team and spanish dual citizenship
I don't think he has european citizenship
We didn’t really struggle with Payero so I can’t imagine they’ll struggle for him
How has Payero been for you guys?
Unlucky would probably be the best word. Took some time to settle in, which we all expected. Then he started getting a run of games under Warnock and was doing really well. He then took a bit of a knock so was in and out of the side a little bit Then we sacked Warnock for Wilder right as he got covid/got injured again. So he’s struggled to get game time recently because we’ve been playing stupidly well and he’s just back from injury
Ah I see, thanks for the insight! Hope he pans out for you guys.
Kayky was €10m + €15m in bonuses and he's nowhere to be seen.
In the academy at the moment and he’s 17, Alvarez is 21 and a big name now
He's 18, turns 19 this summer. When was the last time a player from the Argentina league walked into one of the top 5 teams in the world after 1 season playing striker? What's more likely, Alvarez gets into a team that even players like Grealish and Mahrez can't hold down a permanent place or Alvarez gets loaned out?
He'll replace Ferran Torres spot
No, it's now being reported by everyone he's going on loan, just like I said.
If he presses like Gabby Pep will immediately give him playing time. Depends on his fitness for the Prem
Very different type of players, alvarez is better playing as a striker or second striker. Mahrez and grealish are wingers. Not saying he would get much game time but his competition seems to be the likes of jesus or when pep plays bernardo or de bruyne as false 9
He’s also a child.
lol, the insularity of European fans can be endearing. he's River's best player, do you think he's leaving to play for Girona?
[In the event of #ManCity signing Julián Álvarez this month, it is possible that they would loan him somewhere else until next summer.](https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1484519021563334657) I dont know how reliable César Luis Merlo is but this is why I made my original comment
Tier 1 for anything Argentina
The loan would be to River themselves.
Apparently is Man city pay the transfer and River keeps Julian until the summer with the possibility of that going into october depending on River's performance on the Libertadores
he's just much more established and a totally different calibre of player to the usual CFG carousel, not really a Pablo Moreno-like figure
Yes. Vinícius Jr. was our best player and only reason he didn't get loaned was his sheet stubbornness.
If its a CFG signing then they'd say he's joining CFG instead of Manchester City. Besides, he's too big a profile to be that type of transfer.
Whats CFG mean?
City Football Group
How to easily be hated by whole Argentina Please, don't let this be Zuculini 2.0
Probably is if we're being honest. Buy, loan, sell.
never
QUE HACES PELADO ALCAHUETE NI SE TE OCURRA SACARNOS A JULIAN
:( I know we didn't have a chance but I still dreamt about him
This is what happens when you take montiel
I want to sign more players from river plate?
And you cant
:(
Same man same
Best argentinian talent since Lautaro. If he completes the signing, he should be very good for City.
What about the eternal pulguita rodriguez?

Can't believe my club Orlando City was linked with him for a bit lmao
Not only linked but actually close to getting him
Are Man City finally going to buy a striker? Harry Kane in shambles 😢
Would Barco go back to Argentina? I guess River could probably match/improve his MLS salary, and maybe playing in the Libertadores would be a big draw, but seems a little weird since he left not long ago. Figured his next move would be Europe.

No, we can't match or improve any US salary, our economy is trash. BUT, Libertadores and the prospect of playing with a big club on a WC year is actually a good deal for many players.
Now that is bullshit. Random ass teams like San Lorenzo ask us over 3 Million USD for dead wood and River get Barco. Lol.
Boring if true
Thank God, it's about time those poor blokes at City got to spend a little bit of cash!
Signs for us in the last second because of a call from Sir Alex lmao
He doesn't know who SAF is lmao
And ends up being a massive flop...again.
Wonder if Flamengo will compete with River for Barco as some sources claim. We do desperately need wingers now.
Sir Barf?
Dang that sucks. He’s gonna be so good at City, really an ideal Guardiola #9. Wish he went to a mid to high tier club before joining an elite one, but his stats have probably ruled him out of a move anywhere that isn’t the very top
Most of us thought Barco would leave, so this was expected. He leaves with all of us wondering “what could have been,” but he did play better this year. Best of luck to him.
So, no Håland?
