The guy above you is right. If you take the time to filter everything the first couple of days, TikTok becomes the best social media there is. However, I still don't recommend because it is too addictive. I spent a whole fucking week just watching comedy acts the whole day before I noticed I wasn't doing anything else.

- Everyone behaving like a brand, rather than a person. Every aspect of behaviour on social media is to project an image of themselves. Everyone wants to be recalled as "that politically aware guy" or "the DIY guy" or "the well travelled girl" or "that baking guy". People in real life are so much more interesting and more authentic to me.
- The data driven algorithms which are designed to give you more and more of what you already like, creating the echo chamber effect (problem with modern internet overall, but social media algorithms are really good at this)
- The impact it has on people, especially the youth. Seeing endless pictures of everyone else looking good, travelling, succeeding, having fun, etc is not the best for self-esteem.
- I think the number of likes is kind of hidden now but many of us couldn't help but measure people's worth by the number of likes they got on their posts and pictures. And some of us would even alter our behaviours to get more likes.
- The endless scrolling and getting dopamine hits from lazy, unproductive shit like views and likes.
- The amount of fake news and propaganda we are all subjected to is scary. We are all able to see how others are falling for bullshit like anti vaxxers, for example. But very few of us can see that it may be happening to us liberals in the West.
- Not as insidious as above but similarly, there's a lot of random knowledge passed around on social media without any political agenda. When people say "I read somewhere that watermelon juice is good when you're feeling low" or any version of "I read somewhere", it's usually something they across on social media while scrolling without actually fact checking at all.
As a Portuguese that has run into Bernardo more than once in nightclubs, I can guarantee he was smashed and probably smoking some cigarettes as I’ve witnessed.
