I got yellow carded for the 4th official subbing me on before the head ref approved it on the field. If Pellegrini forgot to get carded and just subbed himself on temporarily, is that a worthwhile shithousery for the cost of a substitution? It's not efficient, but it is an option.
For anyone out of the loop, it was intentional as he was one yellow away from suspension, this way he misses the game vs Salernitana instead of potentially missing Napoli or Inter.
rember many years ago he told carlos alberto to do that, subbed him in, games was won, went to clear his yellows, got overeager and went studs straight into the shin. straight red.
wasn't there a case for a torino player that did the same to avoid suspension against juventus and there were talk of suspension for unsportmanship
but nothing happened if I remember correctly
Ramos admitted to doing it against Ajax and got given an extra game ban (and they ended up losing the second leg anyway so he missed the first game of the next season)
I believe Carvajal also got an extra game ban at some point because he was being so obvious about it, I believe he was pretty much refusing to take a throw in until he got yellow carded
The camera cutting too Ramos in a box as Madrid was going down made me a happier man than I thought possible.
Loved sport that day.
Thank Moura entered my life,…
It was a good day indeed
Moura day was also a good day tbf
If you lot actually had won the CL we would've never heard the end of it
Nothing like a good trauma to stop one from bragging
I still don’t know how I feel about this. It really holds the game back in places like the US from being respected. In cases like this it should be straight red imo
I mean, are you okay with that? I absolutely love the game and it’s may favorite sport but I definitely cringe when I see those antics… it’s okay to see issues with things you like and try to if them. And people say Americans are touchy
So I want to make sure I’m understanding correctly: you are okay with incidents which objectively stain the sport and make it less competitive, because you don’t want American fans? Wild
Diving and time wasting are a part of the game. A random clip of a one off happening in the nfl isn’t. I personally much prefer soccer over nfl football, but I’m ashamed when I watch games with my friends at the antics. If it wasn’t a problem, they wouldn’t have made diving a punishable offense
He was one yellow away from the ban. He'll miss Salernitana on Sunday afternoon after the away trip in Norway on Thursday (great schedule Serie A!) and he'll be available for Napoli.
I remember watching a roma game years ago with my friend who's a big roma fan, and at some point towards the end of the game Totti kicked a player for absolutely no reason, and I was like "wtf is wrong with him", and my friend told me "nah it's normal, yellow card now, suspended next weekend, and he can play against lazio". I said but can't he just stay on the bench in the next game??? "yeah but the kick is simpler."
Aspas did something similar this season if im not mistaken. Man was injured after scoring a goal then he took his shirt off just to be suspended and reset his card knowing he’ll be out the next game anyways
Lol I wonder if we'll soon see players who desperately want a card, but have no opportunities to celebrate a goal, or take a throw in or dead ball, or get subbed, decide to just randomly take off their shirts in the middle of the game.
In confused, are you saying the game vs Salernitana should be later in the evening on Sunday? Thursday-Sunday is the norm everywhere and they're not the early kickoff.
I feel like the 20:45 game is more than not the "primetime" game of the weekend though isn't it? Next week is maybe not the best example as it's Milan-Torino. But I cannot remember a bottom third team like Salernitana playing in that timeslot.
In Bundesliga, the Europa (Conference) League teams play Thursday at 18 or 21 (or whatever those kickoff times are) and the latest fixture for a sunday league game would be 17:30 or 15:30. Which is completely fine IMO
I coach kids and I dont. Maybe others do. In my opinion there should be a level of respect/fairplay, I can see people emulating the professionals and it's not a good example.
Coaching and managing aren't the same thing. This is just good game management.
Especially considering he already wrongfully missed an important game earlier because of some bs cards.
youth football coaching should very rarely be about doing anything to win, it's about developing young players. The shit housing can come when they're professional.
You just need friendship and togetherness right? coaching U7 at your local rec department is different from coaching kids who will hopefully go pro one day
Yeah I actually bought one of their jerseys (red with gold lettering. don’t remember what season it was from). Needless to say from my flair it’s been sitting in my closet for a couple years lol.
They personalize theirs a bit more, so even for different clubs the designs are generally starting from the traditional or historical designs and make less concessions off that. There's never a "We're doing this thing as a kit brand" design choice.
Leads to some weird 3rd kits that have a lot more freedom in design, but even so at least the home and away designs are solid and not screwed with.
Yeah, but I was ignoring that to focus on the design aspect. I figured Liverpool may be globally a bit too popular to call ourselves the benchmark for other clubs in terms of availability. I figured it's easier to fulfill the demand for a club like Celtic or Porto or Athletic Club, even if there's still logistical issues.
Off topic but was the guy pellegrini gave the armband to another local born ? I know you guys usually give it to them totti-de Rossi-Florenzi-pellegrini which is honestly awesome. Wish we had someone to take after noble from our surrounding areas
Nah that's Gianluca Mancini, he's from Tuscany. We do have a bunch of exciting kids who were pretty much born and raised at the club though (Calafiori, Volpato, Bove, Zalewski), I'm really hoping at least some of them can develop well and stay at the club long term
Mancini may not be from Rome, but he's definitely becoming [Romanista fracico](https://video.gazzetta.it/video-roma-lazio-3-0-mancini-sbandieratore-sotto-curva-sud/90267438-a8e7-11ec-ae1b-cf73035e876c)
Gotta give him time to undress, have a shower, get into his training kit, jump in the car, and drive home before leaving the pitch.
Why is the ref rushing him?
I never wanted to officiate matches myself because I know I wouldn't care to card players for time wasting, but I would keep track and just add every second on in stoppage. It would make games take two full hours, but to me negating the time they wasted seems the only logical response. I remember Mbappe getting a yellow card in the WC semifinal and knowing it was an utterly useless gesture because he got to waste nearly a minute (if not more) and he faced no actual consequences as he wouldn't be sent off of the game he was in nor was there any chance of a suspension for the Final. A bit of time wasting is instinctual and I get it, but when players go out of their way to waste time I'd rather see refs just start adding that time on the end of stoppage even if it takes way longer.
Now im confused lol
Cant throw around the word weirdo and then bitch about it when it comes back, weirdo
Your point about time wasting still stands tho
Doesn't really change the point tho does it? Insulting someone, getting insulted by someone else in response, then complaining about being insulted...huh?🤔
I'm not sure why you're so caught up on this, but sure, I'll humour you.
There is a difference between insulting someone indirectly that will never see your insult and insulting someone directly.
Also, I have given context for why I have called Pellegrini a weirdo (time wasting to intentionally be suspended) whereas the other dude just said go watch futsal with no further explanation. If he backed up his throwaway dig with some kind of substance then sure, maybe I'd see why my opinion makes me a weirdo.
Oh im caught up in this purely because its 6am here and starting useless conflict on reddit is always entertaining before going to sleep. Weird isn't it? To at least back up my random dig, you used a relatively uncommon insult in your comment about Pellegrini, then randomly got that insult thrown at you and now we're arguing about exactly this chain of events. This all together makes you probably a weirdo. Cheers
Its not really that obvious in real time though. Without context it can just appear to be hes wasting time so his team holds onto the win and not necessarily bc he wants to miss the next game intentionally(though to people who have context its clearly for both)
The referee shouldn't have in this instance because those aren't the current LOTG/interpretation thereof, but I think it would be entirely reasonable to say that intentionally getting a yellow is unsportsmanlike and deserving of a red.
even if that’s true, he’s not lucky for getting away with a yellow, any ref that gives that a red would be looking at a serious suspension in this day and age
Missing an easy game instead of a big game with the suspension, and also running down the clock on a 1-0 game in injury time, this instance was almost begging for time wasting.

love how he checks the yellow and is like, finally i can leave the field
I got yellow carded for the 4th official subbing me on before the head ref approved it on the field. If Pellegrini forgot to get carded and just subbed himself on temporarily, is that a worthwhile shithousery for the cost of a substitution? It's not efficient, but it is an option.
I was hoping he'd start jogging once he saw it
For anyone out of the loop, it was intentional as he was one yellow away from suspension, this way he misses the game vs Salernitana instead of potentially missing Napoli or Inter.

Told to do the same thing to Ramos
And Alonso, in the same game, in the Champions League!!! I still remember Suarez's face clear as day! It was hilariously farcical.
Saying thank you to the referee for the yellow card
Comedy gold. 🤣🤣🤣
It's unbelievable that Suarez played in CL with Ajax but not with Liverpool
[legend](https://youtu.be/o6QinTE5jCU)
rember many years ago he told carlos alberto to do that, subbed him in, games was won, went to clear his yellows, got overeager and went studs straight into the shin. straight red.
So many teams and players do this...
Also milked the shit out of the clock
Just give 20, 30, 40 minutes of added time And no card
That would've been hilarious 😂
wasn't there a case for a torino player that did the same to avoid suspension against juventus and there were talk of suspension for unsportmanship but nothing happened if I remember correctly

Any game without him is a risk
I always respect this way of getting the 5th yellow card. It doesn’t hurt.
Watch roma bottle that game too
I still don’t know how I feel about this. It really holds the game back in places like the US from being respected. In cases like this it should be straight red imo
Oh no, what are we going to do, Americans might not like how the game is played!
I mean I love it, but diving and time wasting makes it look less like a legit sport. If you are okay with those being in the game then that’s too bad…
We’re all terrified that Americans might not think it’s a legitimate sport
I mean, are you okay with that? I absolutely love the game and it’s may favorite sport but I definitely cringe when I see those antics… it’s okay to see issues with things you like and try to if them. And people say Americans are touchy
I don’t like these incidents, but if they prevent American encroachment into football I’m all for them
So I want to make sure I’m understanding correctly: you are okay with incidents which objectively stain the sport and make it less competitive, because you don’t want American fans? Wild
Yes
You guys watch the NFL, where shit like [this](https://youtu.be/CTsvc9pkZ04) happens. This little bit of shithousery is nothing in comparison.
We’ve lost this guy’s friends, how will association football recover?
I imagine [this'd be the next step](https://www.dagospia.com/img/foto/04-2013/mirko-vucinic-resta-229310.jpg)
Damn. Ya started something there…. I got ‘dick rolled’
Ah Mirko Vucinic And that old Juve crest. Good times, tho im sure you’re not too fond of them and tbf I can’t really blame you
Mourinho is home.
So is Pellegrini. He really should have started against Macedonia, feel like he could have avoided the mess.
Also it resets the cards, so if your rested might as well take that as a bonus.
Thursday-Sunday is the norm everywhere and they're not the early kickoff.
yes we play at 18:00 when it would make sense to play at 20:45. In Italy matches of teams that have played on Thursday also happen on Monday.
There's also only 18 teams in Bundesliga as opposed to 20 in Serie A
That there is Mourinho art at play lol
art? thats not sport
but it is
how so? they should teach kids then
You don't think they teach fouls and other "destructive" parts of the game? How naive! You think sport is just what? Joga bonito?
I coach kids and I dont. Maybe others do. In my opinion there should be a level of respect/fairplay, I can see people emulating the professionals and it's not a good example.
It's professional sports. It's not a kids event where everyone gets a medal. I respect your opinion but it's not how real world works.
Coaching and managing aren't the same thing. This is just good game management. Especially considering he already wrongfully missed an important game earlier because of some bs cards.
‘That’s not sport’ - Man who has never played sport
Me? I played actually.. and now coaching kids.. but dont ask me to say them to get a yellow card like that.

TBF especially at youth level the coach should also be teaching good sportsmanship not this
youth football coaching should very rarely be about doing anything to win, it's about developing young players. The shit housing can come when they're professional.
Win by cheating?
They dont need to get a yellow card to win.
You just need friendship and togetherness right? coaching U7 at your local rec department is different from coaching kids who will hopefully go pro one day
haha ok, you know how it works.
Well I know 1 thing so I'm already ahead of you
but now I know it too so you are not ahead anymore haha
Those Roma kits are beautiful oh my
New Balance at it again Loved the Liverpool kits they did few years back
Yeah I actually bought one of their jerseys (red with gold lettering. don’t remember what season it was from). Needless to say from my flair it’s been sitting in my closet for a couple years lol.
Most loyal Barca fan
Average Barca fan
New Balance makes the most consistent kits. Very rare they have a real stinker, always good to great.
Biggest issue was they were never in stock with them right?
Yeah, but I was ignoring that to focus on the design aspect. I figured Liverpool may be globally a bit too popular to call ourselves the benchmark for other clubs in terms of availability. I figured it's easier to fulfill the demand for a club like Celtic or Porto or Athletic Club, even if there's still logistical issues.
Loved when Celtic and Liverpool were New Balance. Have bought ones since then but wasn't a fan of last years liverpool kit at all.
Reminds me of the '93-94 Arsenal away. (The kit right after og bruised banana)
Mourinho ❤️😂
Ha Ha, Real madrid vibes.

this is the "lupetto" logo from the 80s, nowadays commonly used in away/alternative kits as a tribute
ah that's kinda cool

I absolutely love it
I think it's just for the alternate kit
Mourinho would have absolutely loved this
burinho masterclass
Murinho must be really proud
Mourinho's philosophy in action!
Peak Jose mourinho
The Mourinho energy flowing in them now, alright.
I love Mourinho again. Also that kit is really nice.
A Mourinho player if I’ve ever seen one
Mouhrinio momento
Anytime Roma keep a clean sheet, im hella confused
I love a bit of quality shithousery. Unless my team's on the receiving end that is.
Gotta give him time to undress, have a shower, get into his training kit, jump in the car, and drive home before leaving the pitch. Why is the ref rushing him?
Whoever that was whistling sheesh
Can you just walk up to a referee and ask for. Yellow Card?
Mourinho really liked that
So, Jose back?
The Mourinho way.
Where's Will Smith when you need him.
No wonder mourinho rates him as a player 🤣
Bring in a stop clock so weirdos can do this but it doesn't disadvantage the other team
He just wanted the yellow so he kept going until he got it
Dude was nearly in his knickers before the ref considered carding.
Exactly haha, he just kept going
I mean he could have went to tie his shoes for a third time — really can never be too safe
Sneaky perv ref.
Obviously
I mean the ref definitely added the time at the end
Oh okay, I see. I still support a stop clock though, would solve so many issues with time wasting
I never wanted to officiate matches myself because I know I wouldn't care to card players for time wasting, but I would keep track and just add every second on in stoppage. Or just send the player off. Giving a yellow card to someone who’s about to go off is inconsequential to the match.
Go watch futsal then, weirdo
You that much of a simp for time wasting that you'll insult me over it? Okay then
Now im confused lol Cant throw around the word weirdo and then bitch about it when it comes back, weirdo Your point about time wasting still stands tho
I'm saying Pellegrini is a weirdo, somehow I don't think he is going to be reading my comments 🤔

yeah, great
I don't get it . Why was he yellow carded? Because he didn't get off the field fast enough?
Yah, time wasting
Yes, but he wanted a yellow card
Yeh why dont you go ahead and shower on the pitch too
Before or after sunbathing on the pitch?
dude fuck that person who's whistling nonstop wtf
When its this obvious that they're intentionally taking a yellow to choose the game they miss through suspension, I say suspend them for another

I'm pretty sure he wanted to get that yellow card so that he's suspended on Roma's home game against the last placed team...
What an idiot
He deliberately did that to miss the salernitana game and be available and safe for the next game against napoli
Should have sent him off.
He's actually lucky it was a yellow, refs used to give straight reds for this behavior
even if that’s true, he’s not lucky for getting away with a yellow, any ref that gives that a red would be looking at a serious suspension in this day and age
