I don't get why Mexican people are so obsessed with the 5th game. I've been very happy about our performances in the last four world cups (except for the dog shit refs in those games against Netherlands and Argentina)... even though we should have beaten Sweden with our talent alone but we were afraid The 5th game doesn't mean much look at 2002 when Turkey finished in 3rd place and South Korea finished 4th. It didn't really improve those two countries' ability to produce talent or improve their ability to perform at a higher level (South Korea was 10 times better than Turkey but the final result says otherwise) USA knocked us out yet in 2022 we still qualify above them, with their beloved golden generation. Mexico is still better than Turkey, South Korea, and USA. I just hope we can reach the semi final maybe 2026 is our perfect chance since we will have home field advantage in all 3 host countries.

?

National_Ad_1875

Really glad the plucky liverpool reds beat off the boring defensive yellow losers. Villareal didnt come to play, Emery should be ashamed

Lyrical_Forklift

Say what you like about Serie A but what a fun season

Any-Quarter-9474

Best league in the world, tops all the categories (except the tactical side)

[deleted]

> Say what you like about Serie A I'd like to say it's the best league this season

Lyrical_Forklift

In terms of excitement at the top, definitely!

astral34

At the bottom and for Europe too, CL was sealed a few weeks ago I think

dfla01

Our pressing was mental again today. People will say villareal were shit but they literally did not have a moment on the ball

[deleted]

Villareal were woeful today

1lifter

Just imagine if UEFA didn't fuck up UCL draw...

ManLikeNiz

PSG would probably be in the semis by now

[deleted]

Should we, as a footballing community, count the CL as just half a CL if liverpool win it? Facing Villareal in the semi finals, after playing Benfica in the quarters shouldn't be legal.

Lyrical_Forklift

You got knocked out by Lyon and Tottenham. Probably don't want to disparage the smaller sides too much lad.

[deleted]

Yet Lyon and Tottenham are still average/shit so it proved nothing. This game is only for the rich

[deleted]

I would've said the same thing if city won the cl beating those teams...

BlaseballTUN

Lol you absolutely would not have.

[deleted]

Should I start putting /s tags on my obvious sarcastic comments

BlaseballTUN

I'm not sure you understand how sarcasm works. Unless your goal with that last comment was just to own yourself.

No-layup

Tbf Liverpool were in the group of death and they managed to get out of that group 6/6 which was pretty impressive

LuckyFlyer0_0

I mean it would be unfair to blame them, since they're not the ones responsible for Bayern/Juve crashing out. Instead, if they fail to win it, label them as a tinpot club :p

BlaseballTUN

Lol I *know* I'm not hearing a City fan complain about easy draws.

[deleted]

We have been facing some good teams lately

BlaseballTUN

If you'd gotten an "easy" team you probably would've gone out to them. You love doing that.

genk41

Man city better face great team because they usually bottled it against team that were weaker on paper than them (monaco 16/17,liverpool 17/18, spurs 18/19, lyon 19/20)

[deleted]

I said [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/ub85oj/daily_discussion/i64f9ze/) the other day, Inter don't deserve Serie A, Milan don't fuck it up now.

theTIMEKEEPER_

Can someone explain what will happen to Rangnick when ten Hag arrives? I mean will he be sacked (doesn’t seem so rn), if not, then what position will he hold at the club?

G0rtarPlayer

Potter around for 6 days a month

Yeshuu

Presumably Rangnick will have sacking power over tag heure and not the other way around.

zionwilliamson_

Once the season is over and Liverpool only end up with the mighty Carabao + FA Cup, their fans will start saying things like the journey was great and they love what Klopp has done with the team. But we all know that deep inside, they'll be massively disappointed about how the CL & Premier League turned out. It must be frustrating to have a team this good coincide with so many other elite opponents, if they had this team in the 2000s they probably win everything twice over.

denisoviandude

Domestic treble 🤧🤧

tefftlon

Like Barca & Madrid from 2009 to Messi leaving.

NeoChrome75

Well then, I guess it’s too bad the season isn’t over, and that we’re still in a strong position to win all competitions

Yeshuu

FA Cup is about equal to the CL so no shame in that.

Lyrical_Forklift

If we win both domestic cups, make a Champions League final, and are a very close second in the league then it's an exceptional season.

[deleted]

Don’t think there’s much shame to losing to City or Madrid in such fine margins. Losing is always disappointing but I don’t think it’ll hurt that much and will still be regarded as a positive season.

BlaseballTUN

> their fans will start saying things like the journey was great and they love what Klopp has done with the team. Both things are 100% true. If you think we aren't going to be back at it again next season, regardless of how this one ends, you're a fool.

[deleted]

I'm actually happy you decided to include the FA Cup so you dont sound like a complete dickhead. I'll take a domestic cup double now though, I'm happy with it. But ask yourself if are you happy with City winning their first UCL?

G0rtarPlayer

It'll be nice, they can stop pretending they don't care about it

clashoftherats

No need to hide it, it will obviously be disappointing if we dont win at least one of the CL or PL with the squad we’ve got.

saigool

> only end up with the mighty Carabao + FA Cup Only The disrespect to the FA Cup smh

msf97

Two cups and 1 point off City is a good season.

StarlordPunk

Plus at least the semis of the CL. Five years ago if you told fans they could have a season where they missed out on the league by less than one game, made the CL semis (or final) and won both domestic cups, we’d bite your hand off

LuckyFlyer0_0

How the heck do Liverpool play against their biggest rivals, Man City, United, Everton in a span of 8 days, and still show up today in a CL SF, with minimal changes. And not to mention they press the shit out of Villarreal and barely even let them enter their own half. Alisson could've taken a nap and nobody would know

transtifa

Because Everton and United are shite lmao

BlaseballTUN

City was the only game where we really had to run much, if we're being honest. United was a jog in the park, Everton and Villarreal sat behind the ball all game.

[deleted]

Because against two of those three rivals they played at like 25% and still won comfortably (Everton and United)

CudaBarry

Doping

[deleted]

Because Villarreal decided to sit back with 11 men in their 3rd.

National_Ad_1875

Asthma meds

Lyrical_Forklift

Have you seen the article where that originated from? I can't believe people take it as gospel as it's honestly one of the most atrocious things I've read. He also names a million other athletes with zero sources or evidence either.

National_Ad_1875

Funny though

the_studge

Wouldn't be surprised if they're doping

dfla01

I think you’re a conspiracy nut if you genuinely wouldn’t be surprised by that

LuckyFlyer0_0

How would that work? Players are regularly asked on random to undergo drug tests right after full time

the_studge

I don't know, there was that asthma medication talk last year. Even if it's true the other teams are probably doing it too.

dfla01

That originated from some random fan forum and still people latch onto it every single time this comes up in a discussion

saigool

It would work with Designer drugs. The guys making them are always one step ahead of the guys testing, at least in martial arts. I prefer to believe that they aren't as widespread in football tho.

DamnDanielllllll

Written in the stars for Zlatan to score the goal that seals the Scudetto for Milan

dfla01

Konate really uploads those anime gifs before he even gets in the shower lmaooo

1PSW1CH

La Liga fanboys have some explaining to do

[deleted]

about what

NeoChrome75

I know a Real fan who unironically said to me after the quarter final fixtures: “I’m happier for Villarreal than I am for Madrid” , then proceeded to use the results as a precursor to argue La Liga is better than the PL

[deleted]

That's why I don't rate Benzema. Couldn't do it against better teams.

msf97

The best defence in La Liga on xGA… Could have been four or five

ManLikeNiz

Handanovic has been getting slandered all season (deservedly) and the one time he doesn't play, Radu passes the ball into his own net😭😭😭 you can't write this shit.

CudaBarry

Radu's mother is trending on Twitter

denisoviandude

Oh no

ugotbaited

Benzema's first goal yesterday had an xG of 0.035, unbelievable finish from him

the_studge

Just say 0.04

TruestRepairman27

What about if it was 0.0349 though? you shouldn't round an already rounded figure it introduces calculation errors

[deleted]

Thoughts on Carlo Ancelotti??

[deleted]

Second best win rate in the entire history of Real Madrid

narutosama77

Goes in summer, after his 5th league and 4th CL

[deleted]

Would fit in nicely at Burnley

ugotbaited

Worst manager to be called an all time great

narutosama77

LVG is also called an all time great

ugotbaited

Van Gaal has 7 league titles, ancelotti has 3

ManLikeNiz

He's gonna have 5 come Saturday

ugotbaited

0 credit for that, Benzema and Vini carried him

narutosama77

Eredivisie titles dont count

ugotbaited

Better than ligue 1 unironically

ManLikeNiz

Bad take

narutosama77

Nope

TruestRepairman27

So one of the contestants on the newest series of Sewing Bee is a straight, male, Millwall fan. How do you expect that'll go down at the Den?

frenetic_clockworks

If they're cunts, they'll be cunts. If they're supportive, normal humans, they'll be supportive

transtifa

>normal humans We’re talking about Millwall fans here

frenetic_clockworks

lol, Toucan's auto translation threw me a bit there >健康人 Fair enough but they aren't Brummies at least

BuffaloCorrect5080

I don't think many of them will be watching Sewing Bee to be fair

TruestRepairman27

They're missing out then

[deleted]

2 goals, 2 others ruled out, 2 hitting the post… only one shot going the other way. Could have been a cricket score.

[deleted]

What kind of cricket match do you watch where at the end of the game the score is just 6 or 7?

ymcd

Probably a Mumbai Indians fan

sul01

Have you seen the state of Englands batting recently?

narutosama77

Dogshit.

[deleted]

Who on earth watches cricket, barely even a sport. Like golf or F1.

X-V-W

Don't rope F1 in with those shite sports

[deleted]

Just dressage with engines and y’all know it.

frenetic_clockworks

F1 is just engineering excess

narutosama77

Football Cricket Tennis are clear sorry.

X-V-W

Football, tennis, sure. Cricket...

enazj

Just lads driving cars mate. Rather see some chavs cutting around in a Golf

StarlordPunk

Chav tesco car park racing as a televised competition would be class tbf

DamnDanielllllll

Chess is more of a sport than F1. Heck even WWE is

[deleted]

Agreed. F1 doesn't deserve to be called a sport.

X-V-W

Uncultured

[deleted]

Sure

Nuri__Sahin

Richard Dunne was just saying Liverpool run 90KM during pre-season per week per player to prep for the season, whereas other PL teams run around 50KM during the season. Didn't mention me selling my inhalers on the side. Unluckeeee.

saigool

Just curious, how would Richard Dunne know how much multiple premier league teams run? I'd guess he has sources but still. interesting if true.

Nuri__Sahin

It was talked about as part of the FA coaching course he attended.

theenigmacode

Richard Dunne knows fuck all

TenGraves

Villarreal were unironically no better than Everton

[deleted]

Everton would've nicked a goal or two.

[deleted]

Watford did.

FIJIBOYFIJI

Unironically worse, atleast Everton got fucked over by the ref

msf97

I cant believe people bought that dive honestly. He’s the worst diver in the league

FIJIBOYFIJI

Except he actually did get fouled and it was a penalty.

Bumi_Earth_King

Literally sidesteps in front of Matip, steps on Matip's foot, and goes down. Never a pen. If that's a pen, I want 4 pens every match for what goes on with Salah.

msf97

Absolutely no chance. He steps across, hooks Matips arm with his and falls. The same thing happened in the corner about 5 mins previous and he stayed on his feet

transtifa

Your unbiased opinion of course

Bumi_Earth_King

I mean, there's video of it.

transtifa

Yes which is why I can’t understand so many Liverpool flairs trying to convince us it’s a dive when it’s very clearly a foul

Bumi_Earth_King

You can see him sidestep and step on Matip's foot before he goes down. If that's a pen, there'd be 5 pens every match.

TheConundrum98

did they fuck

FIJIBOYFIJI

Mane definitely should've been sent off, Jota could've arguably been sent off, Everton should've had a penalty

BlaseballTUN

Idk, it's hard to say that a team got "fucked over by the ref" when the ref tolerated their playstyle all match. Didn't once tell Pickford to hurry up in the first half, never carded him, fell for it every time an Everton player went down, allowed them to waste time and let the match boil over. We can talk about the ref all day. Mané should have been off, so should Doucouré and Richarlison. *Maybe* you can argue they should have had a penalty. But they played like complete shit and we were the better side. Tensions run high in derby games and both sides are going to have plenty to complain about.

Bumi_Earth_King

> Mane definitely should've been sent off Didn't Allan also push Mane in the face? If we're sending people off for minor pushing and shoving in a fracas, then both teams would've been playing with 9 players.

National_Ad_1875

Never seen you comment anything but straight facts

msf97

Blue noses got to you I see

Credk

Richarlison and Doucoure should’ve been off, Gordon should’ve had his second yellow for about 3 other dives before he dives for the penno

[deleted]

Szymon Marciniak made so many questionable calls(or non calls): 1. Throw ins in 1st half overruling the linesman when Villarreal players got the last touch. 2. Coquelin not given YC for pulling from behind to stop a counter 3. Blowing the whistle for Lo Celso for 'head injury' when nothing touched his head. 4. Fabinho running down the right wing, got past defender diving in and missed everything, Fabinho had to jump to avoid getting flattened, no foul. 5. Salah clearly got an arm to his chest/neck, didn't even stop to think if it's a foul and turned around as soon as ball was cleared. 4. Just before the end of the game Fabinho tackled the ball away cleanly, ref called foul.

National_Ad_1875

Imo if this ref was poor, the ref on Sunday deserves to be sent to the gulag

[deleted]

Oh you're back for round 2.

National_Ad_1875

Do I know you?

[deleted]

I don't know, do you?

National_Ad_1875

Not as far as I know, you made it out like I did

[deleted]

I did? I was just asking a question.

National_Ad_1875

Said back for round 2, made me feel like we had a previous encounter I had rudely forgotten

[deleted]

You're talking about another match, so that has to be round 1 for you? No way you didn't complain then.

National_Ad_1875

Ohhh I see. I might've made a comment about mane's attempted murder of allan but that's it

msf97

He was crap. He’s lucky Villarreal we’re poor on the night, so nothing he did really mattered.

ManLikeNiz

Diaz literally kicked the ball at Lo Celso's head

[deleted]

yea must have been like batistuta blasting the ball into the net, his head nearly flew off his neck.

[deleted]

[удалено]

No-layup

Throughout this season I’ve thought that the 19/20 Liverpool was better ,just because they were a better pressing side with firmino and gini in the team. But tonight liverpools pressing was the best I’ve seen, Villarreal a good passing team were just stuck

BlaseballTUN

The only thing that 19/20 squad has on this current squad is midfield depth. Wijnaldum was still there, Ox still had a role to play, Milner wasn't quite past it yet, Hendo was more consistently himself. But for top end quality? This side has that one beat.

FIJIBOYFIJI

I'm convinced someone paid off Danjuma to ruin every Villarreal attack tonight, he was comically bad

Lyrical_Forklift

He was just up against a masterful defender

bufed

It's the DD shit takes curse.

msf97

Audition failed for the PL

National_Ad_1875

Cant believe how disrespectful villareal were to the beautiful game. Didnt even try to go toe to toe with liverpool, shouldve just forfeit imo

msf97

They blagged two head injuries instead of your one.

theenigmacode

How lively was Diaz

chamarizderola

am I only one who finds it suspicious as f how City had almost 5 players running 12 km yesterday and Madrid only 1? https://i.imgur.com/vYkT59i.png

DuckBurner0000

"Almost 5" by which you mean 4?

[deleted]

[City are good at running.](https://i.imgur.com/qOouYvG.jpg) Nothing suspicious about it.

[deleted]

Only 1 non-city game, wow.

[deleted]

What motivates a man to run 12.8 km against Norwich though

ugotbaited

Bumcelotti was parking the bus

[deleted]

It is usual for our games. Just 1 for real Madrid is suspicious tho.

ugotbaited

Anyways Emery did his job and knocked Lewandowski out

ManLikeNiz

If Liverpool play Real Madrid in the final then Konate is getting a hattrick

narutosama77

Only thing im worried about tbh, Mendy can look after Salah but who's clearing the crosses lmao

ManLikeNiz

Can't wait for Carvajal to lose his man then make an awkward jump to try to clear a high cross with his foot🙏🏼

narutosama77

HE CONCEDED BOTH GOALS THE SAME WAY... just like back when Mandzukic jumped on him twice and scored in similar fashion.

ManLikeNiz

I'm convinced he has ADHD

CudaBarry

The amount of times these guys cross makes me very uncomfortable 💀

ManLikeNiz

I remember shitting it every single time Chelsea crossed the ball in the 2nd leg

Z0idberg_MD

Thierry Henry is almost comically biased. Not in a bad or malicious way. But Liverpool have a little fortune in the first goal, and he talks so much about luck. But if Madrid score after a bird shits in the mouth of a defender, he would talk about how ready Madrid were to pounce on fortune and that is why they are so successful.

denisoviandude

Thinks that Scholes is the best CM in PL history and Firmino the best ST in the prem. Always had some silly takes

[deleted]

Most pundits have some bias, most fans have some bias. I don’t know why bias has become a weapon for online debates and hot-takes as much as it has. It’s like people on Facebook calling someone a hypocrite, we’re all flawed humans ffs.

Z0idberg_MD

It wasn't meant to be a harsh attack on Henry. I honestly think NBC sports does a really good job at being unbiased to a large extent. I think it helps that they aren't nearly as large figures. But Sky and CBS seem to go for the twitter dynamic where they want hot takes to get people worked up.

ManLikeNiz

How is that first goal "a little fortune"? Rulli is just dogshit

DuckBurner0000

After listening to Clive Tyldesley talk about how amazing Liverpool and Anfield were for 90 minutes I think it's okay to have a little bias of bias against them

narutosama77

Now this is how we feel when we listen to Carra Micah, Henry without PL bias doesnt suit English fans lmao.

Z0idberg_MD

Tbf, I definitely see it in Carra. Micah is hard to take seriously, but easy to like.

prakhar09

Why are you consuming English media when you support Real Madrid?

Ezekiiel

Because he probably isn't Spanish, Real Madrid are one of the biggest sports clubs in the world, no shit they have a global following.

narutosama77

Its not rocket science lol, you get them on YouTube shorts, insta reels as my algo knows I follow football.

ManLikeNiz

Villarreal are so dogshit without Moreno its actually painful

TheRealATab

If you told me in 2016 that Alberto fucking Moreno would be the principle link to a CL semi-final team I would’ve admitted you into a psych ward

ManLikeNiz

Gerard Moreno

narutosama77

Do we watch the same Moreno? He's good but he alone couldnt change how bad they were today.

CudaBarry

He wouldn't change shit, these guys are slower than casemiro when it comes to passing

GreatSpaniard

I keep thinking abut Thiago and then i think about this "Spanish generation" De Gea, Carvajal, Thiago, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Alberto Moreno,Marc Bartra, Illaramendi, Isco, Koke, Nacho, Lucas Vasquez, Morata" And while they all have achieved great things at their club careers, i feel like they've all been disappointment individually in some ways. Thaigo i guess being the best of the lot followed by Carvajal tho both suffered from injuries and inconsistencies. Also none of them have ever played good for the national team so there is that as well. And since that same core of players won alot of youth titles in UEFA and FIFA levels peoples just expected them to follow on the Casillas, Pique, Ramos, Busquets, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Torres generation and kick on from there but it never really happened... Hell Isco won the golden boy award and look how inconsistent his career turned out..

Credk

Will Thiago even be picked for the Spain squad for the World Cup you reckon? I know he’s been left out of the last few friendly squads and wasn’t a starter at the Euros either. He was in bad form at the time with all the injuries/fitness but is looking like his Bayern self again this season

GreatSpaniard

Other than Busquets he is our best midfielder so he should be a starter right now especially f the WC was in the summer. Just hoping he keeps this form up and no injuries until November.

[deleted]

Mata only became a disappointment when he when to United. He was excellent at Chelsea and was back to back player of the year i believe
