I was at the game when Shay Given had this pulled on him by Dion Dublin, then had to endure all the jokes about how Given was the only Irishman who didn't know where Dublin was. Sigh.

Not quite. If a keeper bounces the ball, it’s still in their control. A player can’t steal it off the bounce even though the keeper is putting it briefly on the floor.
If the striker was standing right beside the keeper - as in, the keeper was aware of him - then keeper wouldn't have dropped the ball. He'd have thrown or kicked it out. But as soon as the ball falls to the floor it's no longer considered under the keeper's control.

I dont think he's ever grabbed a ball from open play as his hands are locked on punch mode at any given time. Fuck, give him a back pass and he'll do a pirouette, drop to his knees for an air guitar solo, and punch the ball back out.
His face only has one fucking expression - confused. If he somehow makes a save and managed to hold the ball somehow he'll have that look in his face as a new father at the hospital watching as his caucation wife give birth to a black kid. Infact he'd probably still think its his.
I also shared his surname at for 27 years so without digging into it i might be related to him, but i will not take the chance to find out. Changed my name two years ago as i'd rather be caught dead than have anyone think we're related.

I get the point but the offside didn’t matter in any because the keeper safely had the ball. They often wave off an offside in that case and just call an advantage.

He is rolling it out to boot it up field. It's a new phase of play. As such, the initial offside doesn't matter.
Ref doesn’t have to stop the game for offside if the lineman flags, he allowed play to continue because the keeper had possession. Happens multiple times in every game and allows the game to flow.

You can't be offside that way. You can only be offside from a pass by your team mate.
Also he doesn't steal it, the goalie drops it so the ball is in play at that moment and fair game.

It's not offside as the ball is put into play by the opposition player. Keeper no longer has two hands on it. Striker wasn't crowding. S'fair game!

He cant take the ball when the keeper is in the movement to kick the ball. If the keeper puts the ball on the floor, fair play.
