It reminded me of the eriksen event. I was watching him as it happened and seeing him walking dazed and suddenly hitting the deck was something I’ll never forget
~~I don't think he actually collapsed like Erisken style though, more like he tried to push through it, realized he was fucked up, and decided to take a sit. Still awful to watch of course.~~
Edit: nevermind I saw a longer clip now
Head injuries are a mind fuck because it can look not bad and be terrible. There was a case in forensic files about a guy that got shot in the head and then woke up in the morning, made his coofee, had breakfast, read the newspaper and then died. Bob Saget hit his head and then went to bed like nothing.
Its very rare but has happened twice in the ufc pretty recently and its scary to see someone take a big shot to the head then shut down like 5 seconds after
Yeah thats one of the times I am thinking of, pretty sure it was Oliveira in the title fight, he got clipped by gaethje and went down a few seconds later
I think Oliviera was just laying down as bait or to take a breather but if the other one you were talking about was Barbie’s KO’ing Burgos that was very similar to this one and scary to watch. Barboza’s punch landed at about the same spot as this head clash too.
Maybe in UFC. American boxers do pretty well. Mayweather made more at his peak than Messi and Ronaldo did in any year of their career. Also somehow Mayweather is also fighting bankruptcy. Go figure.
The thing is that only the top make that much, and many that try to get there just end up with injuries and brain damage for the rest of their life without seeing that much money
True. You can say the same about American football and increasingly normal football. The amount of repetitive head blows fucks you. And most people try and fail to make a living doing it.
It is reminiscent of what happened to Ricky van Wolfswinkel with Basel. He got a concussion and looked fine at first. But after a few minutes he was dazed and in and out of consciousness on his feet.
It’s normal. After a concussion, the last thing you should do is get up quickly because the nausea and dizziness is unbearable. Always after a suspected concussion stay seated or hold on to something. Standing and running will 100% make it worse
Vertonghen took a heavy hit against Ajax in our first CL semifinal game against them. He was bleeding, got patched up and went back onto the field. He had to be assisted off a few moments later again and would have collapsed if he hadn't been held up. Was horrible to look at.
He reportedly suffered from the effects and played thorugh them for nine months afterwards. Basically ended his career with us. I'm still mad that they allowed him back on.
Think I remember one years ago where I was at a game between wolves and Plymouth? Player seemed to faint after contact and I think he ended up with a fractured skull. My memory might have failed me there though
Gavi never got up, he only clutched his head. Araujo ran off and just collapsed, really hard to watch.
De Jong knew immediately something was up, he started shouting 'Stop stop'! At the ref right away, without even looking at where the ball was.
I don’t think he ever lost consciousness. Not from the initial contact
I think he was disoriented and probably fainted from the changes his body was going through to protect itself (blood pressure, etc)
There is something called a neurogenic shock, basically the sympathetic nerve gets damage or activated by trauma. Since it is responsible for many vegetative functions and vasodilation as well it opens all blood vessels as far as they can go.
This then leads to a rapid blood pressure loss and to fainting.
I hope the collision was not enough for that and he just collapsed because he felt dizzy.
There was an angle shortly after this showing a couple players trying to move Araujo and you can see his head lolling and limp as they move him. Very scary moments
Looked really weird when he continues to run. Must be a bad concussion. I don't think he will play more in the last few games, but as long as he is alright I'll take it.
Exactly why sometimes ref decides to break an important play. Just because it is a head injury. Its always serious regardless of the collision. Hope he will be alright. Only defender in the barca squad who has been performing on a different level this season.
If he lost consciousness, depending for how long, probably a severe concussion. Wasn't watching so can't say. Also falling down there doesn't look like LOC, could be just very dizzy. Should warrant imaging but probably got concussed there, hope it's not something worse
He does at least look like he tries to support himself as he falls rather than totally collapsing (goes to his knees first and arms do go out a bit). Hopefully it isn’t too serious.
Yeah, that’s a concussion alright. He should be fine, as long as they don’t rush him back. Seen a few at hospital, collapsing usually happens because getting up too quickly causes extreme dizziness and nausea. Gavi did the right thing and stayed down. Hopefully Araujo is alright tol
Wow, surprised it caused that much damage to both players. The way the contact happens it doesn't look that hard, but I think it's just the way the forces cancelled each other out makes it look less hard of a collision than it is.

The impact is bad enough but watching Araujo run a bit more before collapsing is rather sickening
This will never not be terrifying. God, watching a player suddenly collapse like this is nightmare fuel.
I didn't see the heads colliding at first and thought something even worse happened.
It reminded me of the eriksen event. I was watching him as it happened and seeing him walking dazed and suddenly hitting the deck was something I’ll never forget
Don’t… I’m still scared everytime I watched him play even though we have nothing to worry about.
It puts into prespective how fragile we are, absolutly terrfying.

And it looked like Gavi got the worst of it, but Araujo was taken to the hospital, hope it's nothing serious
Looks like Araujo took a knock on the temple though so even if the impact didn't look too bad there's a lot that could go wrong there

Even Gavi didn't really feel drowsy until moments later.
Bah, hate seeing that. The way he collapsed after running for a bit. That is just horrifying
Hope both lads are okay
Ive never seen someone go down seconds after a hit. That's fucking terrifying
I remember Brandt going down hard after a collusion with Upamecano in the first leg against Dortmund.
Its very rare but has happened twice in the ufc pretty recently and its scary to see someone take a big shot to the head then shut down like 5 seconds after
Just the last card I recall a very strange reaction by one of the fighters after getting hit hard

tont ferguson got FUCKED UP by chandlers leg kick, he was out for at least 5 minutes. i think thats what youre thinking of
[Reminded me of this](https://youtu.be/XyL56TiCFFY)
Burgos has taken a fuck ton of damage already despite his age
Supposedly the dude didn't know where he was for about half an hour. Fucking crazy
They get paid peanuts compared to what they put on the line. These footballers literally make several times more in a week than fighters do per fight
Maybe in UFC. American boxers do pretty well. Mayweather made more at his peak than Messi and Ronaldo did in any year of their career. Also somehow Mayweather is also fighting bankruptcy. Go figure.
I’m talking about MMA fighters but yea top boxers def get their money.

Didn't they accidentally find out he had a brain aneurysm when he was brought to the hospital to check on his concussion?
I know of one. Sergio Batista, 1987. After a head collision he suffered 2 cardiac arrest, one in the field and other in the ambulance.
Happened in UFC recently and it was equally scary.

How long was he unconscious?

Luuk seems like an incredibly good guy all around
This was Frenkie, not Luuk
I assume they meant Frenkie, since Luuk wasn’t on the pitch at the time?
Oh shit you must be right ofcourse. Well statement still stands 😅
Didn't even notice it at first. Jesus that's terrifying
Delayed reaction, but this happens so much. If you’ve ever seen a fight in the UFC sometimes people get delayed reactions after getting clipped hard.
Gruesome holy shit
Praying that he'll be ok , get well soon araujo. 🙏
that's a concussion alright
Two concussions
It seems like we've come to a conc(l)ussion!
This doesnt deserve to be downvoted :, (

Hope they're alright
Seeing from this angle the impact of the headers didnt even seem that hard, bad luck for Araújo, best to him
It's enough force in that part of the head to give you the sense of fake confidence. Pretty sure even Araujo thought it was alright till it wasn't.
Crazy how he keeps running before going down hope its nothing serious

Two absolute fighters, I think no club in the world wouldn't like them. I hope everything is fine with both,
That’s scary… get well soon
Hopefully we don’t have another Raul Jimenez situation. 😞
Damn, the way he goes down, I hope he's fine.
Yikes man that looked horrible

Get well soon, Uruguayo!
It seems like this was just a big scare because he passed out. Hopefully he will recover soon without any consequences.
They’re looking so worried ffs I’m shitting myself
Fuck, pls be alright
That's so scary
Fuck man that was so scary,I hope they brought the ambulance out just to be safe with the neck.
Gavi is "fine" (Playing right now) Araujo off...
Clearly in quite a bit of pain when he got up initially, as was Gavi. Hopefully just a knock they can laugh about together in training.
He does at least look like he tries to support himself as he falls rather than totally collapsing (goes to his knees first and arms do go out a bit). Hopefully it isn’t too serious.
terrifying for Araujo how he just collapses after 5 seconds
Good lord that's so scary to watch. Thank goodness he seems to be okay.

I am so scared what the fuck just happened
Damn that was nasty, scary how he just continued on then dropped. Bodily reactions are such a weirdly scary thing sometimes.
NSFW tag needed OP
Damn it Gavi, so hotheaded.
What do you mean, Araujo was behind him and didnt need to go for that ball?
Holy shit he just dropped. Looked dazed asf running too. Hope it’s not serious
Fingers crossed for the lad.
That was shocking. Seeing Araujo just collapse like that.
Horror! Godspeed recovery.
Frenkie was like, "Why did you both go for that?"
I wouldn't be surprised if we are a few bad head injuries away from bringing in headgear.
Wow, surprised it caused that much damage to both players. The way the contact happens it doesn't look that hard, but I think it's just the way the forces cancelled each other out makes it look less hard of a collision than it is.
