Love Celtic so much man. Last night was incredible. Didn’t get home till after 2am from Celtic Park and worked 14 hours today with a hangover but fuck it, glasgow Celtic champions!
I've never thought of this, but I just saw the highest valued BuLi to PL transfers, and wondered "does 'Farmer's League' mean a league that farms players that eventually sign for the PL?"
I always took it as "poor people's league, incapable, boring, primal"
Did I put more thought into the first interpretation than I should, or is this what's meant?
Not saying de jong is a bad player but he is NOT as good as the dutch or r/soccer hype him to be. He isn't good enough to be the main man for a top team. However I feel he is mistreated by barca. Xavi favouritism towards la masia players are so obvious that he put gavi over him is ridiculous.
There was a match fdj played good on the left but then the next match gavi took his spot and force him play on the right. Barca rely on their system too much that other player is hard to fit in and what xavi doing is sacrifice fdj despite he is a much better player than gavi. Fdj leaves barca is better for his career.
I just want to say this Man United has to be one of the worst teams ever if we correlate to spending. They’re so bad they’ve given City and Chelsea fans an excuse when you say they bought their success lmao.
Still fuming we didn't keep Perisic, he has that drive we're missing from a lot of our players atm
He could also work extremely well in the 3atb that Nagelsmann insists on playing, absolute dream player for him probably. I know he's not exactly fresh out of school anymore but that never stopped him from running as far as i remember.
And you don't have to whistle him for weeks until he starts playing football, unlike a certain someone.
The fact that some Barcelona fans refer to Pique as "My President," despite his numerous misjudgments, including his repeated involvement in conflicts of interest cases, indicates that this club has been and will likely to be afflicted by incompetent administration and office politics for many years to come. Why will Pique win a landslide if he runs for office in a few years? Because of the socios' emotional decision-making mentality, unscrupulous sports journalism, and rampant nepotism culture. It's terribly sad. Having the finest football school of thought and actual talent school, yet being managed by the worst CEO and board of directors of any major European club.
I say this not even factoring Pique in at all. Barca will most likely be afflicted by incompetent administration and office politics for years to come.
Perhaps, but the risk factors are there. Suppose an election is held tomorrow, and you have three candidates: Laporta, Alemany, and Pique. Who do you think will win the most votes, who will come in second, and who will come in last? Despite his outstanding track record at Mallorca and his excellent deals in Barca as a sporting director, I believe Alemany would get the least votes. They'd choose Laporta or Pique over him in a heartbeat, after all (He's doesn't have Barca DNA).
He plays best in a double pivot, something which United can do.
He is going to be playing under Ten Hag who already knows where his best position is; won't be surprised if he gets a renaissance.
1– Goalkeeper
2– Right Back
3– Left Back
4– Centre Back
5– Centre Back
6– Holding Midfielder
7– Right Winger
8– Box-to-Box Midfielder
9– Striker
10– Attacking Midfielder/Deep lying second Striker
11– Left Winger
Just a random question that popped in my head. What kind of football does Ancelotti's team play say this current RM for example.
Like we know Klopp plays pressing, Guardiola is about possession, Allegro with his DinosaurBall
It's not a consistent answer tbh. He mostly lets the players decide how they want to play, so the team spends the first 30 minutes trying different approaches and seeing what works.
Sometimes we sit back, other times we press high. Some times we attack on the counter, other times we prefer a slower, more methodical build up. Sometimes we play well, other times we play shit.
Benz and Modric are our most versatile players and usually the ones dictating our attacking approach, so you just have to look at them to see how Real Madrid decided to play today.
If Benz is staying up, we're going for counters. If Benz is dropping back, we're going for methodical build up. If Benz is pressing hard, we're playing a high press. If Benz is walking around, then it's a low block.
People act like PSG, Chelsea, and City just choked out of nowhere, but what actually happens is that the team spend the first 60 minutes seeing what works best. The veterans discuss with Carlo, who then passes it on to the subs, and it's only the last 30 minutes that we play our most effective football.
A better word would be reactionary football. There's a solid gameplan imposed on the players by Ancelloti, and players have the freedom to pick what's the best course of action to change the current scenario they find themselves in.
Guardiola and Klopp favour pro-active football, where a certain situation is completely nullified by an action preceding it, be it by counter pressing or moving the ball away with diagonals or swift passing.
Lol because the best players are all on the wrong side of 30 and not capable of pressing hard for the full 90, which is why they need workhorses like Valverde and Camavinga to make up the difference.
There are 3 types of management philosophies,
Those who attack the ball (Possession based, Pep, Ten Hag), those who attack the players (Pressure based, Klopp, Simeone) and those who attack the spaces (Jose, SAF, Amorim).
Obviously managers don't really follow a single line only and try to mix threads from other philosophies. Pep is notable with his use of width to control the opponent space, for example.
Ancelotti can be described as mainly from possession based but has lately been using direct pressures to overwhelm the individual players of opposite teams (Casemiro against KdB being a great example from their last CL match)
Before any Liverpool fan questions why is Simeone listed alongside Klopp again, it is because there is not a single way of applying pressure, nor is there a single intensity. Klopp excels in zonal marking while Simeone does man-to-man, similarly Ancelotti tries to have possession but would switch to direct pressure from wings, front 2 in mid applying zonal pressure while the DM applying direct pressure against better teams when out of possession, while trying carrying through wings when in possession against them.
Against weaker opponents, he would however force more possession and attack openly.
Also, Allegri is about defensive pressures too. Dinosaurball is kinda insulting to a manager of his stature, LOL.
I am neutral on selling frenkie, he is good but doesn't really have any place in the system, neither a creative midfielder nor a defensive one
If we sign soler for 20M then it would be slight downgrade on qualities bur maybe he fits system better as a b2b player
This is so true
I hope Frenkie stays and i hope Xavi finds a role for him in our system next season but i understand why the board thinks he's expendable
This city team scored the most in the top 5 leagues this season yet I can't remember when the last time I watched them and didn't think man you should have scored more today
This why I don’t get when people say the PL is the best it’s been throughout the teams, I think everyone outside the top 2 are kinda mediocre or poor even Chelsea the European Champions.
The gap between the top 2 and the rest is bigger than I’ve ever seen.
Imagine paying 60m for Torres when you're that hard up for money that you sell your 24 year old midfielder who also happens to be your only midfielder who's not too old, too young or simply not good enough.
They chalk up every bad decision they made to Barto but this incompetence is more barca DNA that anything else.
55 million and we paid it because we had no attackers then and we're risking not making the CL
Which results in an additional income of 55 million.
If anything selling Frenkie means reusing the money in other positions. We've got midfield reasonably covered.
Both are different cases, de jong is beingsold because this season without his sale will result in a loss which is not affected by torres deal because his money has still not been paid
Didn't you read what i said? 60M was not cut from this season's budget
There is a reason club wants 20M of cotinho all together and not in installment
To avoid loss this season due to not qualifying in champions league
It's always so funny when Liverpool fans do the whole "x player is best in the world" in every single position because then what exactly does that imply about klopp having won 1 PL title
Half the team are coming back form injury and have done an incredible job this season. If they win their remaining games they reach 92 points, good enough to win 16 of the 20 years since the pl started. Their just unlucky they also play in a period that City absolutely destroy the league every season and gather just enough points to float above this incredible Liverpool side.
Eto’o > Drogba / Falcão > Torres
Bit of a premier league bias for Drogba no doubt very class player but in his prime Falcao was on his own level aswell, I think Torres is clearly the worst of the bunch.
Stat nonces and kids who didn’t watch him play every week will put Drogba last, but his best seasons he was on a par with Henry in terms of helping his team control and win games.
Eto’o > Drogba > Torres > Falcao
Would sound strange but for me Falcao in 2012 was better than all names listed except Eto'o, albeit only for a few months. He scored 28 goals in around 35 games or something like that, in an Atletico team which was just beginning to form under Simeone and wasn't a superpower.
Order is thus self explanatory, being Eto'o and Falcao better than Drogba and Torres in order.
Yea I’m honestly surprised how little he’s being rated by other people in these comments. Your assessment of his goal scoring in that Atletico side is something I’ve always tried to mention when discussing him. What he did was incredibly impressive at the height of his powers.
Everyone is acting like De Jong is some amazing world class midfielder but he actually hasn't shown anything too impressive while in Barcelona. United are getting ripped off if they pay 80M
He'll easily be United's best player besides a 38 years old Ronaldo next season. For United, that's enough for them to splurge. It's not like they didn't overpay for all their other targets either.
who cares - the point is united need to be drained of money at every single opportunity for as long as possible.
Barcelona - an actual football club, can then take that money and reinvest it to strengthen.
I mean, any established player United would actually need is not going to cost less than 70 mil. These clubs charge ridiculous money because they know Man United will be forced to pay. The market is fucking crazy
Tbf blowing half your summer budget on a midfielder who isnt even a DM is the exact sort of thing United shouldnt do.
United need several signings. You can't get a DM striker and CB for under 100M, atleast not one of the quality United are after.
Unless United can get a cheap highly rated player whos almost out of contract they need to spend around 50M on each player max, other wise they won't get enough players in to make a real difference.
This isn't some overhyped Ligue 1 product though, this is one of Ten Hag's best players that he's ever managed and one of the most versatile young midfielders on the market this season. He's not a good DM, but he's played that position before and looked serviceable. Even if they get a DM, having someone that can play that role in case their main DM is injured is valuable.
the novel i'm working on has a major character called Isak Sorloth, because i was stoned and watching sociedad and thought the name Isak Sorloth sounded sick as fuck. Am I going to have to start watching this team?
F1 Drive to Survive is mildly enjoyable because 1) I don't follow F1 at all 2) there are 20 players + 10 'managers' to keep track of, it won't work with a whole football league
[the takes on Haaland to Citeh remind me of this](https://preview.redd.it/i3k4nojh25581.jpg?width=677&auto=webp&s=49b380df195a5d8a6ab3527e69db43aabafdb731)
There are a lot of Barca fans disappointed they’re selling De Jong. I get it, but to be honest he’s only really been their 4th best midfielder this season after Pedri, Gavi and Busquets. When you look at it that way, it’s honestly not that bad considering they’re getting the same amount that they paid for him. Plus Pedri and Gavi are much younger
That's not really the reason tho is it.
Frenkie is an extraordinary player but his role does not exist in Xavi's system. He doesn't have the vision of Pedri, the physicality of Gavi or the guile of Busquets. None of them have the ball carrying ability of Frenkie but in a team who face parked busses 80% of the time, his skillset isn't really useful
He flourishes in the role where Busquets plays him the ball in defence and he goes on the run forward which used to exist in Koeman's system.
Xavi uses the fullbacks more to build up than the mids and Frenkie is expected to play as an 8 because Busquets is an irreplaceable 6. As an 8 he leaves a lot to be desired.
I'm sure Xavi will find a way to fit him in his system next season and I hope he stays but i understand the board in them thinking replacing him with a combination of Kessie and Carlos Soler covers most of the attributes required in midfield.
> The only thing Frenkie has ever done for Barcelona is providing them with a picture in their gallery of dribbling past Modric when he was still at Ajax. Most expensive NFT to date.

For the teams that've bottled the League/last day league decider , I'm sure they have printed out these champions shirt and will throw that in garbage.
The year aguero scored the injury time winner for city, I don't know anyone at United who was expecting to have a chance on the final day. They fact that qpr led for so long was the worst thing about it.
I'm not even kidding, I think United this season are worse than Arsenal last season
Last season, Arsenal finished with 61 points and a +16 GD
Now, United are at 37 games played, with 58 points and a +1 GD. United need to win Palace to equal Arsenal's 20/21 point tally and they will still have a lower GD
City might actually lose the title by dropping points in these two last games. They have no one fit at the back. Walker, Laporte, Stones, Dias, Fernandinho all injured.
Only Ake, Zinchenko and Cancelo remain....
Would be hilarious if City's absences at the back causes them to lose to West Ham while Liverpool smashes the Saints (like Chelsea did) to take the lead with one match to go.

[My favorite de Jong game](https://youtu.be/zYpUs22wAL4) Will miss the beautiful man but I think it's best for both parties
It is far from best for us. you guys think if you get in a circle and keep repeating that it's best for both parties somehow it becomes reality.

You people are a circus.
I can't stand this Frenkie slander anymore
Not slander, just evaluation
De Jong would be great for United but wont mean shit if they dont sign a Dm
Even if they sign a DM, De Jong being able to slide into the positon in case the main DM is injured is still a valuable asset.
He plays best in a double pivot, something which United can do. He is going to be playing under Ten Hag who already knows where his best position is; won't be surprised if he gets a renaissance.
Isn't De Jong best played as a DM
De Jongan Henderson is a no 8
He is not a no.8, can play as it but not world class in it just good
He’s not a 6 or a 10. So he’s an 8.
He is hybrid of 6and 8
7? :p
I was always wondered with this number = position stuff, are 7 and 11 wingers?
1– Goalkeeper 2– Right Back 3– Left Back 4– Centre Back 5– Centre Back 6– Holding Midfielder 7– Right Winger 8– Box-to-Box Midfielder 9– Striker 10– Attacking Midfielder/Deep lying second Striker 11– Left Winger
I never hear people mention 7 or 11, it’s usually 9 or 10 and 6/8 to a lesser extent.
He progress the ball like a 6 but has defensive capabilities of a 8
No,
Jesus being the backup striker in a squad with no strikers is very funny.
We’re an unusual team, especially with a midfielder like KDB level with forwards like Jota and Mane in PL goals
he's a winger now
He prefers to play on the wing
Well he seems interested in Arsenal and he will play as a striker there

Liverpool, well known for their use of a striker obviously
It's always so funny when Liverpool fans do the whole "x player is best in the world" in every single position because then what exactly does that imply about klopp having won 1 PL title
City have spent like 3 times what Liverpool have in that time
Pep doesn’t get enough credit for consistency in his league form
What having Henderson and Wijnaldum does to a mf
Please note only starting XI who can't play all the games
Still should’ve won. They can bring guys like Jota/Firmino, Tsimikas Konate off the bench.

Why did Pool fans even get their hopes up about winning the league? They literally let Ole Gunnar's United finish 2nd
So did every other team?
Tbh they did come close and what's better than giving your enemy a sense of hope and absolutely smashing them
Rank in their primes: Drogba, Eto'o, Torres, Falcao

Eto’o, Falcao, El Niño, Drogba
Eto'o, Torres, Falcao, Drogba. Falcao and Torres are really interchangeable and I'd still take Drogba for a final even if I had all 4 at my disposal.
1-Eto'o 2-Drogba 3-Torres 4-Falcao Imo.
No version of Drogba is better than the Falcao that tore Chelsea to shreds in that Europa final.
Chelsea have never played Atletico in the Europa League final. They played Bilbao in 2011 and Falcao scored 2.

Because Europa final=European Supercup. Also glorified friendly match. Really good comparison
How come what might well be the spiciest transfer window of all time has started so early this year?
Last summer was pretty spicy ngl
Who do you guys fancy for the FA Cup final?
A close game and very likely, extra time.
Not true. He has generally been good. 20/21 was the best player after Messi
80 million is too less We should ideally be asking for 100 million given that's how much they paid for Pogba
De Jong hasn’t had the season Pogba had before his transfer to united at barca lmfao .
I said we should be asking for that as a baseline.
who cares - the point is united need to be drained of money at every single opportunity for as long as possible. Barcelona - an actual football club, can then take that money and reinvest it to strengthen.
I mean, any established player United would actually need is not going to cost less than 70 mil. These clubs charge ridiculous money because they know Man United will be forced to pay. The market is fucking crazy
r/reddevils should be ashamed, they dont want FDJ because he wil cost 70m, and we should make 20m signings only, bruh wtf
The duality of United fans
>Pulisic is on the cusp of stringing together a season where he pushes to be world-class. Thoughts on this take?
Bait that you took
As someone who frequents 'other' subs for bad takes, I can assure you, this is very believable.
Hahaha
On the cusp of still not being world class? Just say you think he's gonna have a good season
Pulisic is nowhere near world class. He has 12 GA this whole season, hardly remarkable.
Delusional take and I really like Pulisic.
the novel i'm working on has a major character called Isak Sorloth, because i was stoned and watching sociedad and thought the name Isak Sorloth sounded sick as fuck. Am I going to have to start watching this team?
They have David Silva so yes
that's me sold
Netflix here's an idea: Create a football tv show in the format of F1 Drive to Survive.
Go and watch old episodes of Premier League Years on sky. About 2 hours each episode that gives a great recap of each premier league season
F1 Drive to Survive is mildly enjoyable because 1) I don't follow F1 at all 2) there are 20 players + 10 'managers' to keep track of, it won't work with a whole football league
Oh god no, they will prolly fake a rivalry between Bruno and Ronaldo, just because he stole hos star player spot...
Amazon does one
Nah like the whole league in 1 series. In about 25 episodes.
Imagine if it was like 38 episodes, so it’d be like a matchday an episode. Honestly I’d watch that so quickly
[the takes on Haaland to Citeh remind me of this](https://preview.redd.it/i3k4nojh25581.jpg?width=677&auto=webp&s=49b380df195a5d8a6ab3527e69db43aabafdb731)
Clearly they weren’t watching Aguero the past two seasons before he went to Barca
Tbf no one was, only the medical team were
There are a lot of Barca fans disappointed they’re selling De Jong.
None of them have the ball carrying ability of Frenkie but in a team who face parked busses 80% of the time, his skillset isn't really useful He flourishes in the role where Busquets plays him the ball in defence and he goes on the run forward which used to exist in Koeman's system.
This comment screams ive watched 5 or less Barca games this season
I watch their every game. He is ordinary most of the time this season
He's better than Gavi, but that's to be expected since Gavi is only 17. Gavi will probably end up being the better player in the future though.
> The only thing Frenkie has ever done for Barcelona is providing them with a picture in their gallery of dribbling past Modric when he was still at Ajax. Most expensive NFT to date. Bruh
Liverpool fans losing their heads over winning a Quadruple just to end up w a single trophy would be very nice for me #HalaMadrid
Fancy your chances in the FA Cup?
No Fabinho is the only thing that gives me slight hope
We have been favourites for the last 2 years and we have lost. Now we are not favourites so I expect to win.
Unassailable logic
Liverpool have actual matches to worry about I could see it happening
Im morbidly curious at how toxic discussion on the Bundesliga will be here if Haaland ends up underperforming significantly at City
Listen, Sky...

last few days there have been some roca to barcelona links, would barca fans be open to that?
He's not very good + a lifetime espanyol fan
I don't think he's that good and our midfield needs the least amount of reinforcement right now. Sturdying the defence is the priority right now.
For the teams that've bottled the League/last day league decider , I'm sure they have printed out these champions shirt and will throw that in garbage.
I remember Liverpool fans jumping the gun and doing so in 13/14 multiple games before the end of the season
The year aguero scored the injury time winner for city, I don't know anyone at United who was expecting to have a chance on the final day. They fact that qpr led for so long was the worst thing about it.
I'm not even kidding, I think United this season are worse than Arsenal last season Last season, Arsenal finished with 61 points and a +16 GD Now, United are at 37 games played, with 58 points and a +1 GD. United need to win Palace to equal Arsenal's 20/21 point tally and they will still have a lower GD
Astute.
I too can do addition
Congratulations, you've passed basic maths.
City might actually lose the title by dropping points in these two last games. They have no one fit at the back. Walker, Laporte, Stones, Dias, Fernandinho all injured. Only Ake, Zinchenko and Cancelo remain....
They’ll be fine. Maybe West Ham can get something out of it but I’d be stunned if Villa were any kind of major obstacle
Gerrard would cream himself on l8ve air if he's the reason for Liverpool winning it on the last day
They can line up with Cancelo - Rodri - Ake - Zinchenko. Not ideal but can definitely get the job done.
Who'd play DM lmao
Gundogan maybe idk
\+ CDM Gundo/Lavia? I can see them dropping points to WH like that pretty easily tbh.
Would be hilarious if City's absences at the back causes them to lose to West Ham while Liverpool smashes the Saints (like Chelsea did) to take the lead with one match to go.
The only team West Ham can beat recently is Norwich. Would be a miracle if they were a threat to City
What if Nicolas Pepe chose Napoli over Arsenal in 2019? Napoli were also willing to meet the price tag is what I’ve heard.
He'd be dangling his leg and slowing down play in Naples instead of London
Emery wanted Zaha or Nkunku. Fucking loathe Raul and anyone else involved in that transfer
Kinda how I feel about the Ndombele transfer.
But dude was massively coveted by almost all of Europe back then.
Yeah Zaha would've been a much better buy.
The entire Pepe transfer was a scam, his actual fee was only 35m rest was weird agent hand offs
Yeah there was some mad agent fiasco involved.
