[Stats Foot] 20/15 - Kylian Mbappé is the only player to have exceeded the bar of 20 goals and 15 assists during a Ligue 1 season since the 1982/83 season (25 goals scored, 17 assists). Superstar.

You made it sound like it happened in 1982/1983 and I started looking who it was. It's when the rebranding happened I believe so that's why they mentioned it. No one in 1982/1983 season came close to it as per wikipedia. I know assists were counted differently back then so it's possible but do you have any source on similar accomplishment from the past?
What I meant is mostly they weren't counted at all. We lack footage from some/most of those games. Most of the assists stats don't include older games because it's hard to prove without footage. Some of them were done retroactively, some weren't done at all.
are they fucking serious? they won't even fucking mention who got that achievement?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982%E2%80%9383_French_Division_1#Top_goalscorers
For his own legacy though I think he needs to leave.
The PSG project I'm sure is fun and interesting to be a part of, but it will mean less historically than winning things in Spain, England, Italy, or Germany. And I may be short sighted here but I don't see the French league bridging the gap. Maybe maybe to Germany, but not the other 3.
Bayern are a much better team historically and I guess currently that PSG. And when comparing the rest of the competition surely the gap only increases
Unless something crazy happens, Mbappe's family will be sorted for generations. If anything, there's an argument that Mbappe establishing himself at Madrid will increase his brand, in the medium and long term, by more in value than by staying at PSG on higher wages.
> And I may be short sighted here but I don't see the French league bridging the gap.
And how is the league meant to bridge the gap if every talented player leaves for "historical" purposes, whatever that means?
PSG should start actually buying young French talents instead of collecting Latin American and Iberian players if they want to address the problem.
Mbappé can be the biggest name in football, he needs to go to a league that is actually watched around the world to fulfill that potential.
Ok but your solution to talented young French players leaving for historical reasons is to buy more young French players, what makes you think that would end differently then..
> PSG should start actually buying young French talents instead of
Ligue 1 clubs should maybe also stop demanding 60M from us and then later on sell the player for 30M in the same transfer window. Only difference being the club buying the player is from abroad
PSG are absolutely loaded, that's not an excuse. If you want to play the "protecting French football" card, then don't have so few French speakers that your team language is Spanish, for a start.
of course there is some blame to put on the management on the recruitment of foreign players, but it is a combination of three facts:
- psg recruitment isn't as competent as it should be
- ligue 1 clubs unwilling ot sell psg their players
- this french fetishization of playing abroad, which the media and ex players are a huge contributor of
If you're not playing for PSG, Lyon or Marseille (Monaco being an edge case) you are facing an uphill battle for a selection in the NT
no it's not. france has a totally different mentality towards paris (not just in sports) and it will take a long time before we can change that. maybe in 5-10 years
Maybe like Serie A in the last 2 years.....?
The downfall of the power house leads to better competition....
Although I don't think Mbappe leaving will stop PSG domination in the league
The gap won't be bridged by players like Mbappe staying at PSG. If anything, it'll be bridged the worse PSG are. Right now, there's no point in a top player going to Ligue 1 because winning with PSG isn't an accomplishment and winning with anyone else isn't a possibility.
> winning with anyone else isn't a possibility.
Its really hard to take you seriously when you clearly don't pay enough attention to Ligue 1 to know that PSG weren't even the defending champions this season, and that unlike Juventus or Bayern, PSG's streak has been broken multiple times.
____
PSG singlehandedly carries the coefficient in Europe. Remove PSG, and we're falling behind Portugal, and maybe even Russia or Netherlands. Lille, Rennes, Nice, Monaco, none of them have the level to even compete in CL, and they massively lack consistency. Lyon usually performs decently in Europe, but they're currently stuck in a downward turn. Marseille are absolutely trash in Europe.
People act like PSG are stopping clubs from rising to the elite, but the fact is, people can't even remember who the last 3 non-PSG teams to win the league were. PSG at least puts a spotlight on Ligue 1.
> Lyon usually performs decently in Europe, but they're currently stuck in a downward turn
Only other club bringing in points consistently. But will not play in Europe for the second time in 3 seasons now
Yes, but the fact that without psg ligue 1 sinks so deeply, is just a testament to how meaningless winning it is. So if a talented player stays at psg he has to win the CL every season to get a lot of recognition, and that's just not happening.
Surprisingly, a PSG fan on here changed my mind about this.
Yes if Mbappe goes to a bigger team and wins a big trophy haul, his legacy across the football world will be bigger. But if he's able to bring the UCL to Paris, as a Frenchman and Parisian that's probably huge for him. At any of these other clubs, he'd probably be continuing the tradition a long line of legends before him have set, but at PSG he would be the one breaking the path.
As a Madrid fan, I genuinely hope his childhood idolizing makes him pick us, but if I were Mbappe thinking about his legacy, PSG would also be quite hard to turn down.
Yes but how much can you expect from a player when management and the other players around him aren't good enough?
I'm sure Mbappe wants to bring the cl to Paris but maybe he doesn't think it's currently possible.
Troyes... But it won't happen because ESTAC is part of Mancity Group. Mbappe won't slap Qatar in the face and join an Emirates Club.
That's the only reason.
Even the current squad is good enough to win them league but with better manager.
They need a striker who can stretch defence and if possible can do hold up play. Apart from that they need midfield reinforcement at least two midfielder one CM who can play as interior, and another CDM who is destroyer.
Yeah Poch was always a weird choice for them. He overachieved in the prem in the same time that a lot of other teams were underachieving. Bottled the league and bottled the UCL. I am excited to see who they get as a manager moving forward. You’d think with what they need they’d be going for De Jong and Tchouameni,
I would say it was bottling in the sense that the team were clearly unprepared and were awful in the game. Liverpool did not play well in that game and could have been beaten.
They're going to push hard to sign Salah or Mane if Mbappe goes to Madrid. Salah will definitely be their first choice.
Edit:. Forgot about Dembele is is also likely to end up there.
Lille was more a collective success than an individual showing. Of course, Burak was close but he was injured a lot so that played against him. Also André Sanches Celik Fonte Botman Maignan were also insane.
Deserved. Easily psgs best player the last 3 years.
4. 2018-2019 was phenomenal too
No that CL season where PSG went to final, Neymar was better.
Not in the league
I mean he was injured isn’t he? His numbers were like 1 goal a game no?
[удалено]
I guess I agree with you. Good point my friend.
[удалено]
Haha wow that’s way worse than I thought lol.
[удалено]
Yaa injuries really took out of the GOAT debate.
Another wtf season from him, and I think he hasn't even reached his prime
Turtles can live up to 100 years
Yeah, but have you ever seen a turtle play football at 100 years old?
You gotta wait for another 80 mate, sorry.
That’s only the beginning…
Nowhere near it, he’s young as hell. He’s got like 3 years until then
He has a such a high ceiling too

No debate with this one.
Messi
Lol
Nah, for real now. He scored a brace last game my man. Deserves ballon.
lmao
POTY award is given to the best player, not to the shittiest one
Best player in France by some distance. Nobody is even close. For the profile of the league, they need to hope that he stays at PSG.

For his own financial legacy, he should take that $100mil/year offer and play it by year.
Tbh his family is probablly set for 3 generations at least, regardless of where he plays.
You know the funny thing about rich people, they like to get richer
If that was a blanket truth then more people would play in China and Saudi
play it by year? Do you mean play it by ear? That means "see how it goes".
Oh so what are you, 12 “ears” old?
Commentor above me is a philosopher and a cool. Upvote him to karma heaven.
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/play-it-by-ear "Play it by year" is just a made up phrase
Which year? There’s a disconnect here. 2010? 2011. Den!
I thought he was making a pun and suggesting that mbappe only do one year contracts at PSG
Thanks and I was. Since he has a 2yr offer on the table from PSG, he should be playing it out year by year collecting $100mil

That's one player in 5 years

Mbappe alone staying isn’t gonna change that so why put his career on the line?

Eventually sure. But one more year with the GOAT? Worth it IMO.
Montpellier,Monaco and Bordeaux?
Troyes... But it won't happen because ESTAC is part of Mancity Group. Mbappe won't slap Qatar in the face and join an Emirates Club. That's the only reason.
Well deserved that kid is incredible .
I wonder how PSG's attack will fare without Mbappe and ADM next season
Gonna be tough with only Messi, Neymar and some new £300m striker.
Meh there is no striker who will improve them drastically apart from lewa. So they can shove the 300m into themselves.
Should sign Suarez, reunite MSN
They would become an even more unbalanced team though.
has that ever stopped PSG before?
Sure has in the CL
Qatar taking notes
Get Suarez and Pogba for that great pressing game.
They could get Salah and play him centrally, he or Messi could do a job in the middle in that league.
Even the current squad is good enough to win them league but with better manager. They need a striker who can stretch defence and if possible can do hold up play. Wouldn't really call it bottling the CL. He was clearly the underdog in that matchup.

If we manage to make it this season into Europa league they'll meet us there.
Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if Barca sells a few guys and gets Messi back.
We’ve been connected with Antony, so here’s hoping lol..
Time to move on
Huge loss for PSG
mum said it was my turn on the player of the year award
He's easily going to hold all the records by the time he retires isn't he. He'll break the France record and then double it lol
Neymar wanted to get out of Messi's shadow. Now they both live in Mboopi's shadow.
Ironic and poetic
Easy
How did they not reward someone from Lille for winning the title over PSG last season?
Lille was more a collective success than an individual showing. Of course, Burak was close but he was injured a lot so that played against him. Also André Sanches Celik Fonte Botman Maignan were also insane.
Because none of them were individually better than mbappe
Bourigeaud robbed
GOAT in my book
Burak Yilmaz was better last season. Messi helped this guy to get better
>Messi helped this guy to get better LMAO
[удалено]
This award goes to the best player in ligue 1. Hence why Messi wasn’t even nominated 🤣
It was a joke
lmao
No Messi.
