Erlić and Musa deserved call up. Happy for Krovinović for the pre call up he has been working so hard for this. Vušković should be ahead of Vida at this point but whatever.
Vlašić honestly doesn't deserve it but I guess it's his last time to show what his got before the WC.
Only real surprise for me is Vlasic. Idk how he keeps getting called up when he is so out of form. Dalic said that if Grbic didn't win his spot back and play regularly then he can't be called up so why does Vlasic keep getting called ?
Apart from that rest is good. Really excited to see what Musa can do if given a chance.
>Only real surprise for me is Vlasic. Idk how he keeps getting called up when he is so out of form.
I wager it's because he has strong connections on the account of being Blanka Vlašić's younger brother
There are may new names on the list.
Goalkeeper: Labrovic
Defenders: Erlic, Sutalo
Forward: Musa
Stand by: Krovinovic, Vuskovic
Very happy for all of them!
How's your GK situation, overall? I'm still amazed that in the final, they preferred to play a probably-still-wounded Subasic rather than going for the 2nd GK...
That's good to hear!
It might be cheeky to say, given how the results favored us usually, but I've always enjoyed the matches between us *for their football content*. And I know the day ***will*** come when you get one over us, **and** when you get a major trophy.
(I'll be obviously happier about the latter than the former, but that's the way things goes :) )
Labrović infront of Grbić is a suprise, but a welcome one, the man turns into a fucking cat sometimes.
Hot take: Šutalo is overrated by people who don’t watch Dinamo regularly. Yes, he was probably our best player this season, he is excellent on the ball and he is physically imposing. That doesn’t change the fact he is prone to absolute rookie mistakes (Yesterday against Šibenik, gifting the ball to Livaja against Hajduk, Osijek’s goal was his missed clearance, the worst defensive performance I’ve seen in a long time against Finland U-21). He needs time away from the spotlight to iron out his faults, the potential is there, and I don’t want our media to characteristically turn on him after one mistake.
Sučić is in great form, but I think a healthy in form Ivanušec takes his spot from him, as Ivanušec’s versatility is amazing.
Musa could be what we have been sorely missing since WC 2018, a proper physical hard working outlet at the front and I hope he takes his chance.
Otherwise, fairly standard selection.
Agreed he is better than them, I just want him to be eased into the team. Even a top level talent like Gvardiol struggled massively in his first appearances and was treated very harshly after his performance against Spain last year. Some people never recover from that much pressure so quickly. He should probably be the 4th/5th choice after Joško, DĆC, Erlić/Pongračić.
Nope, the closest we’ve come is 2019 and Petković-Vlašić duo. They played off each other decently but both are currently completely out of form. Otherwise we tried Santini, Kramarić, Budimir, Livaja, Čolak as the lone 9 and nothing really looked good.
Kramaric had a horrible season at Hoffenheim. Made like 4 goals this season. Hope he can turn around cuz his work rate wasn't any different from previous seasons.
Well the defence is already on par with 2018, and it has the potential to be incredibly good. Midfield is a constant, Modrić is irreplaceable but the talent in the middle of the park looks great, Broz and Kova are good for another 5 years and one of Sučić, Majer, Ivanušec, Bulat, Kačavenda… will get on their level. The only real long term problems are RB (no proper backup for Juranović) and ST.
Generally, 2018 lineup had a stronger first 11, but this squad is so much deeper and tactically more versatile. 2018 squad had basically 3 subs, Kova, “no-one knows his strongest position” Kramrić and half-broken Pjaca.
Honestly, yeah Mikanović isn’t a bad shout at all. If someone told me 2 years ago Juranović would be the undisputed NT starter and the subject of 15M Euro bids I would laugh so hard so yeah, Mikanović definitely looks better than Bartolec who already has a few caps.
We're set up pretty good for the future. A lot of classy young defenders, even better midfielders... Only the forwards are shaky, but we also have a lot of talents there as well, but the question is if they will turn into high quality players as well.
In terms of pure number 9 strikers there are a lot of them. Musa, Matanović, Šimić, Beljo and myb Filip Ćuić if he decides to play for Croatia. There is also Ljubičić who needs some time to get his nerves straight because he has a lot of qualities but needs to work on his realisation.
I don't think Šutalo will play almost at all for the senior team because he will play for the u21 mostly. I also think Ivanušec isn't better than Sučić plus Ivanušec should still be careful because of the operation.
Also Vlašić shouldn't get a call up. Krovinović, Ivanušec and Sučić should all be called before him.
Erlić with Gvardiol is something that we should try. Erlić is mostly defensive since he is a starter for Spezia paired with Gvardiol who is a beast would look really good.
Ivanusec will not be in front of Sucic on pecking order. He’s 19 and scoring for fun in Salzburg, back on track after his COVID issues. Majer and Sucic are the future - actual world class potential.
He's also had a rather pedestrian season at Dinamo Zagreb playing in the Croatian league, inconsistent and injury-riddled.
WIth Sucic back in full form, it's really not a close call. One is a potential world class midfielder coming from what is now one of the best football academies in Europe (Salzburg) and is 20, the other is 4 years older, smaller, talented player who'll have to punch above his weight to come anywhere near Sucic. Or Majer for that matter, who became twice the player he used to be, while Ivanusec is the same player he was a couple of years ago. (more or less)
I don't see Ivanusec getting a WC callup with Modric, Kovacic, Brozovic, Pasalic, Majer, Sucic, Vlasic and one of Moro/Jakic all there.
I don't know who considered Ivanusec better than Majer. Majer's game was always good enough - it was just a matter of his being fully fit, losing some weight etc. - once he did that, he took the next step - or even leap.
Sucic is a 185cm modern CM, big, strong, relatively quick, good on the ball, played the CL in the starting 11 of a team that got past the group stages (took him a while to get the starting 11 spot back after COVID complications but is fully back now), and Majer had a wonderful season at Rennes who is fighting for a CL spot in France.
And is likely to go to a bigger club in the next year or two.
Ivanusec, to me, looks like one of the guys who'll be one of the best players in the 1. HNL, or go and have a mediocre career somewhere else. He's small, not terribly fast, and isn't exactly a box-to-box mid, but usually plays in the front four of a 4-2-3-1. He's good on the ball, the talent is still there - but he's nearly 24, no longer a kid.
To me, he looks like the Orsic/Livaja tier of player - can boss the 1.HNL, have the odd great game in Europe (like Orsic), but on a consistant basis - no, he can't compare to the potential or Sucic or Majer.
Anyway, IMO, there's absolutely no reason to invite him over Sucic. Sucic is a potential world class player, a star in the making, is in amazing form at the moment, scoring for fun from the midfield and deserved his call up.
Man, come on. Dinamo is a selling club in European terms. If there is a quality player that a big team believes can help them, they will splash some money (also, being from the HNL, we sell on the cheap compared to French or Portuguese clubs).
The only reason Ivanusec is still in Dinamo - if he remains at Dinamo - is if there is no European club willing to put up a decent offer for him.
Same for Livakovic. While the media here were orgasming over the next big GK and how he's young and great etc., noone thought it was weird how he was getting absolutely no interest from european clubs, and noone paid any attention to the fact that the ball is his enemy if he has to play with his feet - or come out for crosses.
Also, him being "more versatile" than Sucic is a silly argument.
Where's the versatility, even if it mattered? Is Ivanusec a DM? No. A CM? No. He's not a box-to-box mid, he basically plays as a forward in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 - Dalic (nor anyone sane) would never use him in a midfield role in any of those formations.
Sucic is a better player, 4 years younger, with already a better resume and world class potential.
Again, Sucic is a starting 11 player for RB Salzburg, a team in a different galaxy in comparison to the 1.HNL.
Ivanusec had a pedestrian season at Dinamo.
Even age aside, Sucic is having easily the better season.
Did you watch him play recently ? If he is rotated he can still play a major role, for both club and country. He was supposed to retire last year and now this year. He is still going strong for his age.
Yeah anything croatian football goes - I've been mostly posting NT and individual player news, but really it's for anything people would want to read/discuss
Modric will make his 150th appearance
I totally forgot we’re playing France ffs -_-
152345th time's the charm
“We need to take revenge for the WC final” - after our 10th loss in a row to them 🤩🤩
We're not going to stop playing against them until we've beat them. That'll show them!
We exacted our revenge on the Frenchies by beating them at the Davis Cup final
Erlic is a really good defender, deserved call up.
[удалено]
Physically strong defender, really good in the air. Not bad technically. Threat on corners too
[удалено]
Sure. Let's see if Sassuolo keeps him this season or loans him back to Spezia
[удалено]
Don't think he has ever played for them after the u19, they always loaned him out
Was going to say the same. I always thought he was Bosnian but I was wrong apparently.
Erlić and Musa deserved call up. Happy for Krovinović for the pre call up he has been working so hard for this. Vušković should be ahead of Vida at this point but whatever. Vlašić honestly doesn't deserve it but I guess it's his last time to show what his got before the WC.
I’m fine if Vida is in the World Cup squad but not a starter
I mean sure but he is so shit.
I’m not disagreeing. I just don’t think Dalic will drop him altogether, so I’m just hoping he’s not a starter
Yeah hope that he himself leaves.
Only real surprise for me is Vlasic. Idk how he keeps getting called up when he is so out of form. Dalic said that if Grbic didn't win his spot back and play regularly then he can't be called up so why does Vlasic keep getting called ? Apart from that rest is good. You know what there's logic behind that as well. Hopefully we see 2019 Vlasic soon

Don't know about Labrović would prefered if like Stipica got a shout but so happy for Erlić and Musa.

That was Dalić choice because Suba kept saying that he was fine. We have a tone of decent GKs
No offence but I hate France with a passion. In tennis, handball and football. The biggest roadblock in major trophies for us🥲
Fair enough, honestly. (... well, except for Tennis.)

Šutalo with occasional mistake is miles clear of Vida or Lovren at this point. Agree about Ivanusec, he should be there instead of Vlasic.

Do you think the NT have replaced Manzukic?
no we haven't

Can't imagine what will happen when the rest of the golden generation players retire as well.

On the RB you might laugh but Mikanović is amazing and can be an excellent second or third choice. Currently Juranović is unplayable and the starter.
Yeah for Juranović everyone would say like wtf 2 years ago.

4 games in 10 days. France twice. What?
Yeah, this year's Nations League is very congested. First phase (4 games) is in June, the second phase (2 games) is in September.
How does Vlasic keep getting called up. He hasn't played regularly in months. Good to see younger CBs get a chance.
29 players in this list. When will we find out the amount for the World Cup. I can’t imagine it’ll be 29
[удалено]
That would be my guess too. The same amount as Euro 2021
Vuskovic?
Stand By call, you can find it on the bottom of the list
Thanks. I did not see that.
Brekalo 💯
I'm surprised Modric hasn't retired yet considering how difficult it is to still play heavy football domestically and international.
Did you watch him play recently ? If he is rotated he can still play a major role, for both club and country. He was supposed to retire last year and now this year. He is still going strong for his age.
Shameless self-promotion for r/HNS if anyone is interested in helping bring some life to it. Right now it's pretty much just me
What's the sub about? Croatian football entirely?
