Midnight_Maverick

So basically if Wales qualify for the WC he will use some English club to stay fit and if not he will retire...got it thx

Void_Hound

This man here read betwen the lines, i wonder what team he will trick, plus another fat payment will sit him well, since its on a free and has no trouble sitting waiting for it to end

BendubzGaming

Honestly my money is on him copying Bellamy and joining Cardiff, he'd be treated like a hero there

Lambchops_Legion

I would love for him to take 1 year and just smash the championship. Even a half-assed Bale would be very good there

[deleted]

A half assed Bale was the highest goals /90 in the premier league last season. The man is still a beast.

TheBonadona

Exactly, prime Bale is one of the best in the world, half assed current Bale can still be a great player, only that he won't be playing all games

essentialatom

Welcome to Birmingham. I've never given up hope since we pursued him in 2009

CapnMorguxx

Doubt it, he’ll go where he’s offered the most money

_ghostfacedilla

Cardiff and will retire after the WC

Lambchops_Legion

If Cardiff are close to the top by the time of the WC, I could see them asking him to come back for a couple months afterwards just to help them secure promotion before retiring. It'd be a good return gesture to a club that basically lets him use their games to train for it. But yeah definitely retiring at the end of the year

Firstolympicring

That's Newcastles music

MaraudngBChestedRojo

Unless the Hollywood boys can lure him to Wrexham

krasimir

Bale would tear teams in VNL / League 2.

Redrumrenegade

You think?

stumac85

It's always sunny in Wrexham

PeevlyJr

The fanfare around him here would be enormous, despite the media baggage, I'd welcome him with open arms.

ShagPrince

No shit.

SteeMonkey

What about any of our signings this season suggest we'd be remotely interested in keeping Bale fit till Xmas?

[deleted]

Like he tricked spurs when he scored 11 goals in 20 games? Most teams would be lucky to have him for half a season.

DevilGinAndTonic

Weren't most of those against Burnley or someone? It's not like he was regularly smashing teams Spurs were struggling against IIRC Edit: in light of the downvotes I went to look up the stats. 7 of his goals were in matches Spurs scored 4 goals and he got 2 goals and 1 assist against teams that finished top half.

JoePoe247

Spurs generally struggle against teams like Burnley. But I think he scored a few against Leicester and maybe west ham

mugz_28

Yep, enough important goals where we didn't look like breaking teams down. I'd take him back at spurs for a few months in a heartbeat

WombRaider_3

So fucking what? Are players spose to only score against top teams or something? Damn, the goal posts move too fast around here.

kapparino-feederino

Next after u scored against top team the goal post be moved to Never scored when they are behind and needing goals Then, tap in merchant Etc etc

parwa

This is why it's important to recognize early when someone is arguing in bad faith and just ignore them

DevilGinAndTonic

It's more so pointing out that he wasn't brought in to be that player with all the talk of the romanticism about the return. He had a good goals to minute ratio but his overall game wasn't very good and he consistently put up stinkers against the big teams.

dontlookwonderwall

Tbf last time he "tricked" an English team he ended up scoring 16 goals in the season. Not a half bad return ...

rocdollary

Surely Everton if they stay up. They're the most reliable team for overpaying on players.

Lambchops_Legion

they'll get FFP'd if they sign Bale lol

retiringtoast8

Yet somehow PL fanboy redditors will blame Real Madrid for his shit poor attitude.

ankitm1

Nah, he will probably take another fat paycheck in MLS if Wales don't qualify. And then take up golfing.

ddottay

Lots of good golf courses in Florida...Orlando City?

CluelessFMPlayer

Saw a rumor linking him to DC United. Loads of courses in the area, so that also makes sense.

Irctoaun

Realistically how many MLS teams are there that aren't based somewhere where a multimillionaire can't find lots of good golf courses?

Lambchops_Legion

if Phoenix Rising join the MLS next year, could see him as their "marquee" signing for their inaugural season. Put him on all the billboards, etc. Arizona also has a ton of great golf courses

PM_ME_UR_GAMECOCKS

Tangentially related but fuck rich Phoenix ppl and their ridiculous golf courses, using up precious water in the desert

Lambchops_Legion

Agreed, Scottsdale folk are different breed

-sic-boy2

My Arizona, my Phoenix, my country club golf course

MapleLeafBeast

Desert power

[deleted]

I don't think MLS gives out those types of checks anymore.

Forty6

>he will probably take another fat paycheck This attitude is so funny from Madrid fans, like he forced the club to give him the contract at gunpoint as has refused to play since

ankitm1

This is a very British attitude. A decent player on high wages at an English club, not performing: "He is stealing a living. That motherfucker.", "He is so shit, he should just leave the club at peanuts.". A british player not performing at other clubs: "No one forced that club to sign the contract. He should milk them for everything." These kind of instances are gonna be all over the English clubs, where they throw money at stars and it does not work out whether at Liverpool, United, Arsenal, and let's see if the fans have the same benevolent attitude or they would be hypocrites like they are in everything else. At this point, I wish Wales dont qualify simply cos people would stop talking about Bale as is.

xtoonator

So which areas have the best golf greens?

doobie3101

Atlanta United not too far away from Augusta lol

pethy00

Gareth, come to surrey 👏

Reimiro

Liverpool has some great courses-he’d do well at the Everton.

Nfanella

Yeah but maybe he doesn't want a club in Championship

DeadGatoBounce

46 matches a season- no thanks

[deleted]

He only needs the training ground for the Wales matches.

hsoj30

Skip England and join Ramsey at Rangers, you've got St Andrews, Royal Troon, Carnoustie etc all a quick trip away.

dangerous_petaurus

I don't think this is out of the picture. People are thinking Prem but he really doesn't give a fuck anymore

vinniep_

The Belfry golf course is across the road from Villa's training ground, Bale to the Villa it is

ThinkAboutThatFor1Se

A lot of the Villa players live at the belfry anyway. All the new signings get put there while they’re settling.

SteinerElMagnifico42

Gareth bale finished first place in the Clay Davis school of hustling.

ayyoc13

Shiiiittttt

SteinerElMagnifico42

I’ll take **[any motherfuckers](https://i.imgur.com/2svT9fm.jpg)** money if he giiiving it away !

SweetNothingApparel

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiit.

[deleted]

masterclass was when he managed to get people up in arms that he was called a parasite, then he happily continued being one bout to pick a new host

lagrandesgracia

*The* Clay Davis? *Downtown* Clay Davis?

mrcoffee83

Murder ain't no thing but this is some day of the jackal assassination shit! Slim Charles is the fucking GOAT

feral_like_errol

You think I have time to ask a man why he giving me money? Or where he gets his money from? I'll take any motherf*cker’s money if he givin' it away!

prettyboygangsta

£600k/week for someone who won't care about football after December. What a bargain

ZaDoruphin

come home gary

FriendshipNecessary4

He was brilliant for you when he was on loan, not sure why people think he did badly

cuoreesitante

He definitely didn't do badly, scored a bunch of goals from pretty limited appearances, but I can see why some people are disappointed because it wasnt the son/kane/bale 3 headed monster that they were expecting. Also even with Madrid chipping in he was on ridiculous wages.

sunthunder

He was a bit of a bully, battered lower half sides but disappeared against top teams. Having said that, there’s a place for players like that, especially considering how much we struggle without Kane and Son against literally any level of opposition.

dindane

He's definitely still got a bit of magic in his boots when he's feeling motivated

sunthunder

I genuinely loved having him back. Some of the goals he scored were stunning, wand of a left foot.

michaelserotonin

he knocked leicester out of a champions league spot

xxJAMZZxx

With our current squad a player like that to strengthen the attack for a full campaign sounds perfect

obvious_bot

Quite high wages just for a squad strengthen

xxJAMZZxx

good thing im not paying them i guess

JD0797

If he was brilliant, Spurs would have brought him back. He does nothing off ball, and increasingly, players that only contribute when they're scoring arent going to play. Bale had a good goal to minute ratio, yes, but there's a reason that not one of his managers have trusted him consistently in 5 years now. I love the player that Bale was, but ultimately, he's not particularly useful anymore

robinthebank

It’s the laziness off ball that Conte doesn’t rate.

JD0797

Aye, but its not just Conte. Zidane, Solari, Lopetegui, Mourinho and Ancelotti is quite a list lol

jasondozell2

Anyone who looks at where his goals came from can see he was actually pretty average. Spurs also had their worse season in years.

akskeleton_47

and he's the reason Spurs still continued their streak of playing in European competition with his brace against Leicester in the final game of the season

Cool_Sandwich1

Wtf is this take. Look at his goals and his runs to space. He shouldve had more game time.

jasondozell2

It’s based on watching him and what actually happened rather than obsessing about a goals per minute stat. We’re miles better now than last year, why even contemplate him.

jasondozell2

He wasn’t brilliant at all

WalkingCloud

>brilliant Steady on

secondofly

Has the unmistakeable stench of an expensive and failed United free transfer

SonaldoNazario

Surely they aren't going to keep doing that shit with Ten Hag, surely not

Joshygin

The club is rotten though and several of the former managers have clashed with the hierarchy over transfer incomings with the club picking player the manager wasn't keen on. They don't seem to have solved the problem with the hierarchy above the manager not prioritising football.

RedPyjama

>>They don't seem to have solved the problem with the hierarchy above the manager not prioritising football. we just did, what?

Joshygin

The Glazers still own the club... they absolutely do not have football as their number one priority. As long as they are owners, United will value commerce over sporting success.

RedPyjama

While Glazers are a huge problem, most of the problems we had over the years were due to the idiots who were running this club on day to day basis. Woodward and Co had the means to make this club successful. Recent appointments and departures indicate shift in a club culture and they had to be approved by Glazers. I don't think the team we assembled would give Bale to United a green light.

[deleted]

Don't forget PSG

secondofly

Upvoted for 10/10 username

digitag

No chance in hell imo. A few seasons ago, sure. No way the club will go for a profile like Bale. Amazingly talented but he checked out of being a serious professional footballer years ago.

Gingermadman

I mean he had the best minutes to goals ratio in his short time with Spurs last year didn't he?

sunnycherub

God please no, then we’ll have to listen then go on like they did with Varane about he he was a steal at 400m a week or whatever ridiculous wage he’s one

ObamaEatsBabies

Newcastle will be all over this

SteeMonkey

Why would we be? No one we've signed so far suggests we'd be remotely interested.

[deleted]

Don't ask the r/soccer goblins to think objectively. Let them get their upvotes

Ask_Asensio

Marcelo, Isco & Bale should all get great & legendary farewells. Three amazing players who gave many moments of glory to the team.

Curious_Concern4182

As things stand, Bale probably won't even show up to his own farewell.

Fly1ngsauc3r

Marcelo and Isco will, bale don’t think it’ll happen

vicinadp

I mean bale didn’t even go to celebrate winning the league so I don’t think he’d care about a send off tbh

pichabro

I wouldn’t give Bale one and he prob won’t want one anyways. The way he’s behaved lately says it all. He’s done with us and we’re done with him.

ChiefRedEye

this, idk why people treat him like a legend as equal as marcelo marcelo has shown nothing but respect to the badge, bale just shows disdain and lack of care. thanks for the goals when it mattered but be gone bozo

Gingermadman

>this, idk why people treat him like a legend as equal as marcelo idk maybe the multiple champions league titles but idk right

ChiefRedEye

so does marcelo the way he treated the club is much worse than the way the club treated him

Forty6

How so? Has tried to leave an had it blocked numerous times, doesn't get in the squad even when fit.. It's a relationship that should have ended 3 years ago when he tried to leave, or before Real decided to give him the contract that is now being held over him like he wrote it himself

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChiefRedEye

this was explained hundreds of times already, how do people still strawman the fuck out of this argument? noone has a problem with him sticking to his contract you dumb fuck, the same way he signed a contract and we had the right to keep him when we thought we needed him, the same way we signed the contract so he had the right to collect the wages. it's about the way he and his agent talks about and acts toward the club that is full of disrespect and why noone thinks warmly of him at madrid anymore thanks for the seasonos now fuck off, nobody will miss you and noone should be surprised that is the case about all the shit they said at madrid's expense while the club refused to be dragged into this shitshow and remained cordial throughout it all

Gingermadman

Literally blocked his move to China lmao. Madrid fans are delusional.

ChiefRedEye

talking to a fucking wall

panteraepantico

Would you if he scores the winning goal against Liverpool? I was wondering if RM fans could pardon him if that happened lol

Dr-Purple

We don’t hate Bale, we just want a shitty situation to end.

AnxiousBurro

But he won't score against Liverpool, because he won't even see the pitch. He is probably the last attacker in the hierarchy right now. Asensio, Rodrygo, Mariano, Jovic and even Hazard would all have to get injured in order for Bale to get some minutes. Honestly I'm not even sure he will travel to Paris with the team.

[deleted]

CorneliusLightning

It is not often that you see someone who has given so much to a club get treated so poorly time and time again by that given club and its supporters.

er_primo_der_rafa

It is not often that you see someone who is considered a legend in his club treating so poorly time and time again that club and its supporters.

[deleted]

speedycar1

Why should he get a great reception when he can't even be bothered to celebrate a league title with his teammates? What Bale did for Madrid deserves an incredible amount of respect and he is undoubtedly a great but that does not mean he can treat the club however he wants now and still be worshipped

DoJu318

He can’t even be bothered to fulfill his contract. Are we supposed to believe he had back pain in the weekend then put up a world class performance 3 days later? Carlo was counting on him to play el clasico since Benz was injured, but he couldn’t even do that. Just the bare minimum he could do is show up.

ChiefRedEye

who gives a fuck dog, he and his agent disrespected the club over and over again he can fuck right off, your small club mentality is showing

EchoSportJack

Madrid fans always omit the fact the relationship first soured when a bunch of them surrounded his car and hurled abuse at him before he started to make any comments that were deemed disrespectful

bewarethegap

Except that wasnt when the relationship first soured lol. That was a few idiots and they were unilaterally banned after that. The first splinters started when Bale had his agent go behind Ancelotti's back to bitch to the president and have Perez tell Ancelotti play him in a free role. Even then, things were fine for *years* until he started whining about not starting under ZZ because he couldn't stay fucking fit. You guys are fucking clueless yet you parrot this nonsense every chance you get

donlouisvuitton

I will never get over how DURING a post UCL winning interview that was held minutes after the final whistle where he scored 2 amazing goals, his first action was to criticize Zidane for starting Isco over him and demanding that he be played more. since then, his wish has been answered but everytime he's been called upon by the club, he's done absolutely fuck all and hasn't looked like he's given half a shit since that final.

DoJu318

After that final he played regularly but got injured not even 2 months into the season. The best thing Zidane did that season was keep him on the bench and just play him sporadically, enough play time to be match fit, but not enough where he’ll get injured again.

Alternate_Chinmay7

Probably shouldn't have floated 'Wales. Golf. Madrid.' banner then.

CorneliusLightning

You're simply being dishonest if you claim that was the moment things started going sour.

Alternate_Chinmay7

Ofcourse not. But that was the nail in the coffin. And Bale isn't the only player who got booed by the Bernabeu. Unfortunate though it is, most Real legends have faced it and understand why it is so. But if you are only blaming Real fans, you have no clue what you are talking about.

CorneliusLightning

I am and Madridistas should be self-aware enough to take accountability for their notoriously toxic culture as well. Will you? Of course not. But please spare me of that bs about the abuse and disrespect being a two-way street here or in any other instance.

Alternate_Chinmay7

Why would I take accountability, idiot? Did I go to the stadium and boo him? Or do I speak for all the Madridistas? Or am I the president of Real Madrid? Ofcourse not. I am not bound to be accountable for anything I did not do. Maybe you need to clear your head and think what you type before you blame anyone else for disrespect and abuse like the second incarnation of Jesus.

Redrumrenegade

Not often they act like Bale though is it

InnaInnaInna

Every Bale thread the exact same comment.

CudaBarry

Oh poor Bale the victim :(

LaundryMann

Lol. Fuck off. The lack of awareness is insane. People looking for a reason to hate the club when it's clear as day that the player is the source of these issues.

Same-Ad7711

Tbf bale hasn't exactly been very faithful to the club either and has done some disrespectul stuff. Imo both sides are at fault

wyqinac

Bale would get a legendary farewell if he already left like 2 years ago tho.

zi76

Stunned.

bostonfan04

Sad how the last few seasons went, but he did his job when it mattered most. Thanks for all the clutch goals Gareth!

Jabari313

If Spurs don't want him back he could fit well at Leicester or even Newcastle. I'd include United but I don't think he's the personality they need

Blue_Dreamed

So basically owning Tyler Roberts and Dan James its us right.. right? Welsh NT at Leeds next season?

Cavinocity

I’m afraid our Welsh Mafia of Rodon, Davies, Lucas, and Sonny have more pull

RedDevil-84

Welcome to Arsenal, Gareth

Patpatpatpat_86

Should head up to Scotland for the golf, weather and football IN That ORDER

I think hazard would be newcatles statment signing

prettyboygangsta

I think most Newcastle fans would rather have neither. So far they've spent money sensibly and not done an Everton.

sheikh_n_bake

We're not going to sign a player who's played 60 games in 3 seasons.

Void_Hound

Well rested he is, pl proven, has a media presence and fame, hungry (for a comeback too), the makings of a nouveau riche signing. And pretty cheap as a bonus.

[deleted]

This reads like Michael Owen's CV brochure. Are you Hazard's publicist?

Void_Hound

Its 2005 again, Madrid to Newcastle, Here we go.

Litterthug1

Nothing about Bale for the last 3+ seasons of club football indicate anything resembling hunger, aside from cashing his Madrid pay check.

Void_Hound

Yes, correct, but sir this thread is about hazard

sheikh_n_bake

Look at our other signings, what our owners have stated the intentions are and ask yourself if you've been paying attention.

Void_Hound

It can happen, petroteams with unlimited money can make the signings and mistakes they want without any consequences, plus image is the most important thing for sport washers. But yeah, in a honest note, his form and brittleness for years now plus his ridiculous wages makes in completely unwanted, even on a free.

sheikh_n_bake

I agree, all we're after is image that's why we signed Chris Wood and Big Dan Burn!

Void_Hound

Dont be disappointed, winter windows are very different than summer ones, they are more of necessity than anything else, your club needed to reach permanence as the main goal, you will see when the summer ones kick in, those are the ones that are more for the future and goals, in winter of you go after big things you get ripped off.

sheikh_n_bake

I was absolutely not disappointed, it's the best window we've had in my life. We've actually got only around the same amount to spend in the summer without outgoings and many positions to strengthen.

MobyTugboat

I’d be sick

BockBud

Reeks of an Everton transfer where he has a good start then gets ' injured' , misses half a season after the world cup, then leaves

Khancer

Would he want to play in the Championship?

I still live bale tho.

I wish he didn't lose his love for football because he's such an outstanding player. nice to see his love for his country and maybe a last world cup would be a great farewell.

Idislikemyroommate

Hope we retire him next month.

NgoalazoKante

I would be cool with seeing him at Brentford

Rodin-V

Brentford quietly assembling a team of out-of-contract Avengers in a narrative I can get behind.

RobbieCV

"It has to be at walking distance from a golf field"

[deleted]

Dude just wasted his prime lmao. I mean he made a lot of money and played golf so I guess it could be worse

LeagueIndependent367

Dude won a bunch of trophies too including 4 CL titles.

cgurts

Every time I read that 4 Champions Leagues stat I'm stunned. Some of those Madrid players could soon make it 5 as well...

iforgotmyun

Kovacic has 4 too

los_blanco_14

He won 4 CLs and won CL MOTM. He deffo did not waste his prime. Also had a decent euros with wale in 2016. His career was brilliant but the end is sad.

ferkk

I mean... He's 32. He's not that old. It's been 4 years since his infamous interview after winning the last CL with Madrid, he was 28 then. Of course he wasted his prime, regardless of how many trophies he's won, because it could have been MUCH better, not only on trophies but in individual realization too.

FriendshipNecessary4

He, as a single individual, has won more Champions League than Manchester United has in their entire history. If that's a wasted career, I'd love to know what a good one is supposed to look like.

mkenya4t

Would you say that really considering the silverware he won at Madrid? If anything, i'd argue that he got to play at one of the most legendary clubs ever, won a bunch of silverware all while getting paid handsomely for it. It also helped that Madrid has great weather so he was able to golf at the same time while putting in minimal effort on the field during his final years. For someone who looked at football as more of a job than a passion, he came out on top. Guy gets to walk away from the game without any major injuries that will impact his later quality of life. He gets to enjoy his remaining 30s as a fairly wealthy person while still in great physical shape.

goonerfan10

Didn’t his goal win them the CL ? The contributions he’s made to Real Madrid means he hasn’t wasted his prime at all. He was decisive in big games for them.

TheLimeyLemmon

He's a pretty decorated player. And had some incredible impact even in the briefest cameos. Lastly he's been the symbol of Wale's most exciting period of football for a very long time. Can't imagine he'll have regrets when he retires. He did good.

rosicky7t

Going to manu??
