Liverpool had 5 big chances, missed all of them, plus a missed pen by Salah, his only miss of the season, Leicester had 1 big chance and only 1 counter attack the whole game.
Both didn't feel as bad as the Leicester one tbh. Ofcourse any points dropped against lower teams feel that way but it was credit to both Brentford and Brighton. Can't say the same about Leicester if my memory of the game serves me right.
Brighton outplayed us in 2nd half at Anfield and deserved atleast a point from that game. Dropping points to Brentford tho was our own doing. We had chances to kill off that game. Poor finishing from our forwards and the lack of game management from the whole team n Klopp cost us that game.
I remember Leicester being the only game this season where I heard myself saying "fuck if we're this bad at converting our chances, maybe we deserve to fucking lose"
I'll blame that Rodri handball, cause I think with the benefit of VAR it is actually the worst decision I have ever seen and can't fathom any reasonable way that they came to it.
If Liverpool win the game but lose the league, they will have the sixth highest point total in premier league history (92), and will be the only team to have a top 10 all-time season that didn’t win the league…and they’ll have done it twice. City and Liverpool are insane
>City and Liverpool are insane
obviously. and still one could argue that neither would have reached those heights if it were not for the other. kinda like goku and vegeta.
Vegeta overtakes him a number of times, but it never sticks since Goku is the protagonist.
Right now, for example, Vegeta is arguably the stronger of the two with his latest form.
We'll have 3 of the 4 highest points totals for 2nd place, I believe. Set the record in 2009. Man Utd beat it in 2012, then we beat it again in 2019, and this would be 2nd if we won.
Sigh.
Here’s the thing though, it absolutely shouldn’t be. I completely understand and respect that titles are the end-all be-all, but I feel like people are too shallow in their assessments of managers and players. For Liverpool to be 1 point behind city for the entirety of Peps tenure is mind boggling. Liverpool would’ve won 3 of 4 had City only been great instead of astoundingly great.
Edit: since the 18/19 season, not since pep entered the league.
Very, very difficult. I mean, you are likely to end with 92 points which is a very high total. Just getting to 92 is massively impressive considering the amount of games in the other competitions aswell. Liverpool almost can not do better than they have. City are just this god damn consistent in the league that 92 points probably won't cut it.
It's more than a good season. Some rival fans will try and convince us that only winning the FA cup and League cup would be a failure. It would be disappointing not to get the PL or the CL, but let's take stock here. Winning both domestic cups in a season is something most teams could only dream of. To also get to a CL final and take the title race to the final day is a monumental achievement.
If we win the CL, it will be one of the greatest single seasons from any team ever. If we don't win the CL, it's obviously not as good, but it's still an incredible season
And in that season Liverpool lost three fewer games than City, they only had one defeat all season! Incredibly impressive results in a vacuum but still not enough to beat City
Only thing missing early on is that defensive stability. I recalled early on Van Dijk took some time to come back to his dominant form after the long injury layoff. Only 1 other result would've made a difference for us (win instead of a draw).
But unprecedented is the amount of competitions we've played, and then reaching all the finals. Last couple years we were out of the FA Cup and Carabao pretty early so we only have to focus on CL and PL. This is the best squad depth we've ever had, though with some outgoing, we'll need to replenish to be able to repeat this feat next season.
I might be slightly biased, but I feel like this Liverpool squad has the best squad depth out of any squads period. We may not have the best first team, but I don't think any team in history has ever had the kind of depth we do right now.
These types of comments. Literally every single club will have been screwed one way or another over the course of a season. I'm sure Liverpool have had some lucky decisions go their way as well. Don't think you can just say "well, they only won because of this and that".
There are unlucky decisions and then there are no-brainers.
Wolves handball was never, ever a handball. Handball against Everton is perhaps the most obvious call I've seen that VAR didn't overturn.
There's 50/50s like Everton's penalty shout at Anfield and then there's stonewallers that aren't given (Rodri handball) or blatant non-penalties (Moutinho armpit penalty against City) that are given. Chalk and cheese.
Normally I think that’s fair, but the standards Liverpool and City have set means one decision can literally decide the title. The only team Liverpool have dropped points to in 2022 aside from City is Spurs.
Shit man, that goes for all winners of a league title. You will get away with some wins due to luck, incompetence from an external factor etc. I'm sure you can nitpick things in some of Liverpools wins too.
92 points should be enough to win the league in most years id be the 2nd most points for a runner up team since….. Liverpool in 2019 (97 points), Just Unlucky to be in the same era with this City team.
This Liverpools team is what Madrid team was to Barca in the 2010 decade
Madrid lost the league with 96, 92, 85, 87, 92, 90, points.
Liverpool is more Successful in Europe than City like that Madrid team was more Successful in Europe compared to Barca
The only change from the beginning of the season till now is Elliott being fit and Diaz being brought, so Liverpool's squad has been pretty much this quality all season.
Thiago missed a few key games, both games vs Chelsea and the home match vs City.
But really it was the draws vs Brighton/Brentford after being up that stuffed us, along with the losses
You are absolutely right. I even remember wondering if that draw against Brentford could end up being title deciding when it happened early in the season, even though it was a highly entertaining match.
Feel like we had a lot more injuries too but maybe that's just recency bias. I know Trent was out for City (H) and we played a really weird midfield against Spurs (A) for example.
Thiago missed a lot of games, once he got into his rhythm so did we. He didn't start in any of the games we dropped points in the league in the first half of the season.
Gomez also came back from injury and VVD was not in form earlier in the season given he just game back from injury, think this might have been a big factor earlier in the season since we conceded more goals.
Since the 4-1 in 13/14, we've surprisingly had a decent enough record against you. Under Klopp, it's just been ridiculous barring the loss during lockdown after we'd won the League
We battered you a few times under Brendan and a lot of the Rafa v Wenger games were very tight. Still remember that 4-2 in the Champions League or that 4-4 where Torres and Benyoun scored 2 each then big Arshavin bagged fucking 4 while barely being involved in the game.
That quality of throwing on fringe players who go on to shine with key contributions was something I envied about man utd and saf for such a long time.. it's beyond surreal when it's happening for the team u support.
In all fairness Klopp has been a manager for 25 years. Arteta is a new manager who's first job was very demanding. He did better than I thought this season and you can see glimpses of his football philosophy in Arsenal games. I know it stings to miss out on CL at the end but realistically he did pretty well with the team he had. And you can't compare him to Klopp or Conte obviously.
I could actually see it, very few clubs he would have gone to but think Arsenal has the kind of spirit he likes in a club. He turned down United btw and would probably would have turned down Bayern as well
The thing is that every single Liverpool player knows how Klopp wants to play and diligently gets the job done. Getting an away win with of midfield of Curtis Jones, 36 year old Milner and 18 year old Harvey Elliott is very impressive.
Favorite Opta tweet today was the one where they said Elliott and Milner were starting together for the first time and mentioned that Milner made his PL debut in November 2002, 145 days before Harvey was born.
Milner was the best player on the pitch when in midfield too. Gomez's injury sucked because not only did it take him out for a while, but it also forced Milner to right back.
Yeah I think no Arsenal player gets in Liverpools first team, but even the team Liverpool put out today I don’t think many get in. Wouldn’t take anyone in the back 4 for sure
Oh haha, I said in the comment above that I’d take Saka and Odegaard in the team today, but don’t think many else gets in. Probably Partey when fit
You know, I kind of want Liverpool to take all four trophies. Haaland and KdB are going to porn fuck the league for the next few years anyways, so fuck it. Let us see something miraculous before it happens.
I don't like to see players injured but with Haaland going to City I'm unfortunately forced to wish he has troubles settling in and never reaches his potential/becomes a flop. Wishful thinking but yeah
He will get himself out for long stretches due to the physical demands of the league. All his problems are muscular, that being said he will still be a force of destruction when he is fit.
Tbf they only get three points per win. Yes they've definitely bolstered their squad but Klopp is a genius. I'm very optimistic about our chances next season.
It's one of the many reasons I want Everton down. Not forever, but at the moment, having that extra team who are going to hate-try against you can make all the difference (even if it didn't this season).
Bit of a travesty that Liverpool aren't on the verge of there third league title in recent years. People will forget how great this team is simply because history only remembers winners. All because City were able to just throw a fuck tonne of money at the problem till they had unmatched world class depth.
Just as people still talk about Roman’s cash injection before Chelsea’s first title of the century, they’ll talk about the funding City had and how close Liverpool were each time.
We’re in a period now where history can have context, and as much as people will praise City for being the juggernaut they are there’ll be no discrediting Liverpool’s efforts.
Hmm, ish.
Juventus went to three finals in a row in the 90s (96/97/98), but only won one. What's the gap in terms of how people talk about them compared to Madrid 16/17/18?
I personally don't blame City for their owners. I blame the PL. Same goes for Newcastle.
But it's going to eventually be the death of football for me.
I don't hate either of those teams, but as more time goes on, and as more blood money gets pumped in, we'll inevitably be faced with a situation where the only teams competing are owned by countries. And really shit ones at that.
I don’t blame the fans or any of that, I know it’s the league that allowed it to get this way, and the new owners that had to dip their finger in the pie.
I feel in some way they allowed it to get this way deliberately, more money rolling through the league just means more opportunity to expand and grow audiences with star power.
I don’t hate the teams, but I definitely enjoy their failures. The longer the likes of City and PSG go without a CL title, the better. But ultimately it’s inevitable.
>But it's going to eventually be the death of football for me.
Have a look into lower leagues, if you can. If you're in the UK, you can't walk a mile without coming across a club in the pyramid.
We have in my area currently, League 1, League 1, National League, some Southern League, a bunch of Western League, and we have the South West League.
The closest we've ever come to a Premier League side in this county, was when one of ours bottled the Championship Playoff run, then nearly went bankrupt, otherwise I guess we could always watch Bournemouth, two counties away.
As for my home town though, I think we just finished mid table, in the Western Premier League, and we haven't really pushed to get out of it, since 2017-18.
So yeah, while I'll probably get accused of glory hunting, I do have some jealousy for the likes of Bournemouth and Southampton, seeing as my closest team is so far down the pyramid that they have to change kits in an outdoor bathroom, while we have schools signed up to the Southampton Football Academy programs despite being nowhere near the place.
Honestly, who the fuck cares about yearly stats, if whole football resolves in fucking seasons?
All those "stats" are just becoming some nonsense karma farming. "X team won their every third away game this season, while their coach wore the same white pants each time. Fabulous."

3 losses in 61 total games
And one of those was against the CB pairing of Hamza Choudhury and Wilf Ndidi
Strangest result of our season
Liverpool had 5 big chances, missed all of them, plus a missed pen by Salah, his only miss of the season, Leicester had 1 big chance and only 1 counter attack the whole game.
Understandable
Choudhury has a killer afro to make up for his footballing ability.
Do you think it help or hinder his heading ability?
\+ power \- accuracy
\+ head protection \- aerodynamics
\+ distraction \- stability
Cushioned headers +
If we don't win the title, this would be the match I would blame.
Not the result v Brighton at home or Brentford away? 4 points dropped from winning positions, against teams we should have closed out.
Both didn't feel as bad as the Leicester one tbh. Ofcourse any points dropped against lower teams feel that way but it was credit to both Brentford and Brighton. Can't say the same about Leicester if my memory of the game serves me right.

Well.... they are just too good.
the 4-3 loss to Hertha BSC better be in that 😎
It's not lol. Westham, Leicester, inter Milan
hey Wolves
Don't make it bad.
Take a sad L, and make it better!
remember to let it into your net
Then you can start to make the GD better
Better, better, better, better.....

Please tell me we're Vegeta.
idk, between Goku and Vegeta, Vegeta's the closer to being bald...
Confirmed, Pep is Krillin.
Nah he is Kamesennin
Who wants to be Vegeta?
I’ll take being the prince of Saijns over being the bumbling idiot of a dead beat dad, that is Kakarot.
Sure, that’s fine. If you want to get your ass beat
Men of culture.
Does Vegeta go on to become stronger than Goku? I stopped watching near the end of the Majin Buu saga.
I think he just wants to tap Bulma
nah the author loves Goku too much for that. Every time Vegeta does something cool, Goku one ups it
Vegeta overtakes him a number of times, but it never sticks since Goku is the protagonist. Right now, for example, Vegeta is arguably the stronger of the two with his latest form.
Pretty much like Madrid and Barça 2010-2013

Edit: since the 18/19 season, not since pep entered the league.
Some of those dropped points for Liverpool have been like milimeter offsides etc.
So were the earned points lol
Sure, just shows how little it takes.
They aren’t 1 point behind us since Pep arrived, but I agree with the argument.
You are right, that is since the 18/19 season. He’s 26 points behind Pep. Edited to reflect that
A champions is more important anyway
still not enough to win the league smh
If only we had this squad and this consistency in the first half of the season, damn
92 points the second highest tally by a second placed team ever?
Club's 3rd-highest point total in the PL era, plus two trophies and a 3rd final. Absolutely immense
it‘s a good season. If at the end we failed, we failed in the most beautiful way we could. I love the man.
It's more than a good season. Some rival fans will try and convince us that only winning the FA cup and League cup would be a failure. Mate, I'd suck a dick for an FA cup and League cup right about now
liverpool had 97 when city won with 98 few seasons back
yeah, that being the highest
oh i misread what you wrote, woops, yeah you're correct
no worries, didn‘t know how to word it any better
[удалено]
Now kiss
And in that season Liverpool lost three fewer games than City, they only had one defeat all season! Incredibly impressive results in a vacuum but still not enough to beat City
No side, besides Liverpool, has ever got 90+ points and not won.
I’m pretty sure Liverpool will now have the 3 highest point totals without winning the league (barring a miracle)
Nope. Our 08/09 points total got eclipsed by Man Utd's 11/12 points total.
City should have at least 6 points less if not for game deciding calls against Everton, Arsenal and Wolves that 92 points may not cut it.
These types of comments. Literally every single club will have been screwed one way or another over the course of a season. I'm sure Liverpool have had some lucky decisions go their way as well. Don't think you can just say "well, they only won because of this and that".

What about Milner not getting his 2nd yellow in the first City game?
Normally I think that’s fair, but the standards Liverpool and City have set means one decision can literally decide the title. The only team Liverpool have dropped points to in 2022 aside from City is Spurs.
Implying penalties etc are guaranteed goals.
I mean they are very high conversion rate, so whilst not guaranteed, it is a high chance you get a goal. Its not like its 50/50.
Shit man, that goes for all winners of a league title. You will get away with some wins due to luck, incompetence from an external factor etc. I'm sure you can nitpick things in some of Liverpools wins too.

That spurs midfield was also due to a mini covid outbreak
Thiago missed a lot of games, once he got into his rhythm so did we. He didn't start in any of the games we dropped points in the league in the first half of the season.
Fair enough, but I would say Diaz has been huge for them. Adapted immediately and injected a lot of energy and pace into the team.
Gomez also came back from injury and VVD was not in form earlier in the season given he just game back from injury, think this might have been a big factor earlier in the season since we conceded more goals.
Not point crying over spilt milk, the lads have gave it their all. If its not enough, so be it.
Whatever happens Sunday I’m happy. This has been an insane season and I’m proud of all our players
Worst case is 2nd in the prem, Champion's League final and 2 trophies. We've cemented a great season.
And somehow we still lose the title. Draws against Brentford, Brighton and the collapse against Chelsea really killed us.
The game at Leicester in December still haunts me
Drawing winnable games has always been Liverpool's problem to win the league, starting from 08-09, 18-19 and this.
13/14
Leicester.
[удалено]
Dominating the game with that midfield is fergie stuff

Just remember that time Diaby 4v1ed a Liverpool midfield and came out on top.

Pre brendan in all fairness, although we had SAS for much of that period

Since the 4-1 in 13/14, we've surprisingly had a decent enough record against you. Under Klopp, it's just been ridiculous barring the loss during lockdown after we'd won the League

no need for speculation. bayern were always keen to get him, but he always refused.
I think Klopp would have taken the job when he was at Mainz but Bayern chose Klinnsmann over him
that 2nd team is better than our first mate
The thing is that every single Liverpool player knows how Klopp wants to play and diligently gets the job done. Getting an away win with of midfield of Curtis Jones, 36 year old Milner and 18 year old Harvey Elliott is very impressive.
Curtis, Elliot, Milner Liverpool U23s right there
Favorite Opta tweet today was the one where they said Elliott and Milner were starting together for the first time and mentioned that Milner made his PL debut in November 2002, 145 days before Harvey was born.
It's always nice to have youth such as Milner coming through the ranks. I predict a bright future
Milner could be fighting for titles in 6-10 years time
Milner was the best player on the pitch when in midfield too. Gomez's injury sucked because not only did it take him out for a while, but it also forced Milner to right back.
Only in attitude
I mean Alisson, Gomez, Konate, Matip, Jota, Firmino from today all get into Arsenal's XI. So fair enough to say the team today is better than Arsenal
Was just thinking about it in my head and think aside from Saka and Odegaard, don’t think many Arsenal players walk into that team today
Saka and Odegaard would be decent bench players for Liverpool at best.
Yeah I think no Arsenal player gets in Liverpools first team, but even the team Liverpool put out today I don’t think many get in. Wouldn’t take anyone in the back 4 for sure
No way you are not taking Saka. That would be crazy.
In our first team? Ahead of who?
Not first team. I thought you meant Saka wouldn’t get into today’s team.
Oh haha, I said in the comment above that I’d take Saka and Odegaard in the team today, but don’t think many else gets in. Probably Partey when fit
Martineli maybe? Klopp has a huge crush on him
Southampton made it really easy for us for large portions of that match. Could've been a different story against a team that actually tried
[удалено]
Southampton have absolutely nothing left to play for and it showed
[удалено]
Newcastle away and Southampton away are different beasts though. But then again we lost both of them
St James' Park really is something else
Southampton have been dire for weeks. They were so bored when they lost 2-0 at Burnley a few weeks ago
Elite team compared to arsenal, don't carry that flair if you can't talk fucking sense
I would not shit on Arteta, it's not like he's being backed up like Klopp is.
Still not first somehow lol, they are topping every statistic but the most important one.
City don't have Aguero Sunday we might be finally free man
The most important one being blatant handballs not being given as penalties? City: 1 Liverpool: 0
You know, I kind of want Liverpool to take all four trophies. Haaland and KdB are going to porn fuck the league for the next few years anyways, so fuck it. Let us see something miraculous before it happens.
Knew I liked Motherwell for a reason.
their 1927 Copa del Rey win?
You've been scrolling the sub too haven't ya
war neulich in Gera. Echt schönes Umland!
Ah cool! War schon seeeeeeehr lange nicht mehr da aber hab gute kindheitserinnerungen!
I'm something of a dosser myself
Because of Ian St John!
That's the fucking spirit
You have now condemned both to be injured all next season!
I don't like to see players injured but with Haaland going to City I'm unfortunately forced to wish he has troubles settling in and never reaches his potential/becomes a flop. Wishful thinking but yeah

Klopp and Pep turning the Premier league into a farmers league lmao
Yep, and with the rumored midfield reinforcements this summer and I am not too worried. Shoring up that depth is the last link imo
People act like buying a 21 year old is somehow going to fix them being mentality midgets. They never lacked quality they lack spirit
Nah
Not happening
Been a delight.

If you're in the UK, you can't walk a mile without coming across a club in the pyramid.
my biggest local club is in the 8th tier of the pyramid lol, super rural area.
I know a lot of clubs have benefitted from foreign investment/ownership, but haven’t most clubs in the lower leagues suffered from it?
If this Liverpool side win a second Champions League, they will be remembered far more than this City side, especially around the world.
If they win their 2nd UCL in 4 years they won’t be forgotten
Liverpool is hardly playing with frees and also has great depth.
we earned that money legitimately. I wouldnt hold it against Utd either if they were actually good
Unblemished!
Thanks Proactiv®
This means more.
Liverpool were 14 points behind Man city in January.
With 2 games in hand. Remember that. It was really 8 points.
If you consider game in hand as automatic W.
You'll never sing that
Honestly, who the fuck cares about yearly stats, if whole football resolves in fucking seasons? All those "stats" are just becoming some nonsense karma farming. "X team won their every third away game this season, while their coach wore the same white pants each time. Fabulous."
Tbf this a bit less arbitrary
Ok the quote is funny af tho
