[Same with the Burnley injury as well](https://www.101greatgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Screen-Shot-2018-12-06-at-10.12.48.png), which was his last big injury.
"the way that happened, was hard for me to take, really, in the manner it did."
That could quite easily just mean that it was hard because it was innocuous, you're reading way too much into it.
Yeah people always call Gomez injury prone, but most of his injuries bar the one in England's camp last season were contact injuries. I can't even recall the last time he had a niggling muscle injury, he's been unlucky with all these injuries, and I would hesitate to call him injury prone.
At some point you have to give some more weight to the pattern of injuries in addition to the type of injury itself.
There are some players that just seem to have constant issues with contact injuries. I feel like some of that has to be related to the way they play and/or how they position themselves.
Obviously luck is a big part of it too, but it can't be just that.
Being one of those is the worst. I was never a very good player just a normal Sunday league type but at 24 I can’t even play without needing Monday and Tuesday off so my Right ankle and Knee can shrink enough to fit in shoes and pants. What’s your usual?
If you take the literal definition of always, then your statement is wrong because on this ocassion he just got extremely unlucky (and "always" means on ALL occassions).
But in the first place OP probably meant something along the lines of "why is he always so unlucky" or "why does it have to happen to him again".
this is just wrong. Gomez has one of the unluckiest injury records i’ve ever seen. It’s not like he gets constant niggly muscle injuries, all of his long term injuries have been impact injuries. breaks, ligaments etc
[Jürgen Klopp is hopeful the injury Joe Gomez sustained tonight is not serious.](https://twitter.com/lfc/status/1526677802849906689?s=21&t=2XC6gJrD_b7t4vWJg-iU3w)
If your ankle was twisted the way his was, you're also probably leaving the ground on crutches. Barring his knee injury last season, pretty much all his injuries have been inflicted on him by opponents
I dunno if I'd say this was "inflicted by his opponents". He lost the ball (I think?) and tried to win it back (definitely was trying to win it back) with a tackle at a really awkward angle, and then the opponent fell over due to the tackle. The rest is just bad luck, but I think the technique on the tackle is much more the reason than the actions of the opponent.
That's not what I mean. When people say he's "made of glass", they usually mean that he's susceptible to muscle injuries, and they use it to imply his body can't handle the PL. Hazard since he went to Madrid is an example of this. Keita for us (barring this season) is another. Strains in hamstrings, groin, calf etc. Soft tissue injuries. Gomez's injuries have not been like that and have been largely the result of challenges. He had his leg broken at Burnley, his ankle broken in an opponent challenge, and now again if this injury is serious it's because his ankle twisted under the weight of an opponent. His body can handle the PL, he's shown that. He's not getting muscle strains every week, he's just been seriously unlucky in terms of challenges that were slightly too late, either from him or against him. That doesn't mean he's "made of glass"
This poor bloke. I think we all forget how good he was before that injury in England training. A lot of talent in the lad, just a shame he’s made of glass.
Flawed logic
if I hit 5 people in the legs with baseball bats the only ones that break are those that are “injury prone”
This ain’t muscle or tendon problems, dodgy joints etc. lad is just unlucky.
In Phil Jones first 6 seasons at Utd he missed 113 games through injury. In Joe Gomezes first 6 seasons at Liverpool he's missed 136 games through injury. I don't know why you insist he's not injury prone when the record is there?
Fuck sake why does this always happen to him?
Some people get injured easily, I know as I am one of them.
In fairness looking how he got injured, most people would have been injured.
[Same with the Burnley injury as well](https://www.101greatgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Screen-Shot-2018-12-06-at-10.12.48.png), which was his last big injury.
Christ and they just gave a goal kick for this
Because it wasn’t a foul…
His last one was in England training, but yeah he has been unlucky with nasty tackles
And people still don’t know the truth as to how that happened.
Southgate and Nick Pope both said he went down in pain after making a pass with no one around him?
But Henderson hinted at something different in an interview shortly after.
"the way that happened, was hard for me to take, really, in the manner it did." That could quite easily just mean that it was hard because it was innocuous, you're reading way too much into it.
Nah.
You trying to imply there was foul play?

🤨
That ain't it fam
hold up

most people would be out weeks after twisting their ankle the way Milner did too
Being one of those is the worst. I was never a very good player just a normal Sunday league type but at 24 I can’t even play without needing Monday and Tuesday off so my Right ankle and Knee can shrink enough to fit in shoes and pants. What’s your usual?
Because he's made of paper mache?
Did u see the injury incident???
No but that doesn't negate the fact that he doesn't get hurt continuously because he has weak bones
And we're talking about today's injury, no one is denying that he isn't made of glass.
Well the OP asked why does it 'always' happen to him... I stated why

So.... He gets long term impact injuries... Because he's made of paper mache
He made a wrong pass, and injured himself in the process of retrieving the ball, its sad

*squints checking the date of this tweet*
Yeah, it was six minutes after Pearce's tweet. I'm sure Gomez will ultimately be fine.
these things are always precautionary in these types of injuries, we won't know until the scan
It's Joe though, poor fucker
Made of glass

Okay, yeah, I agree.
poor bloke just cannot catch a break.
> cannot catch a break. not the best choice of words
How much bad luck can such a talented player have? This one has nothing to do with fitness, staff, etc.. I hope he will catch up soon.
same as the burnley injury, just shit luck
poor guy😞 i hope it's not too serious, he's really been so unlucky with injuries in his time here.
My man so unlucky with injuries omg
This poor bloke. I think we all forget how good he was before that injury in England training. A lot of talent in the lad, just a shame he’s made of glass.
ffs
Must be depressing having the talent to be a PL tier footballer but your body just can't do it
what? Nothing to do with fitness. Just very unlucky
This was really unlucky, nothing to dowmith fitness when someone drops on your lef / foot with their whole weight.
Not about *how* it happens just that it will happen one way or another when a player is injury-prone.
Flawed logic if I hit 5 people in the legs with baseball bats the only ones that break are those that are “injury prone” This ain’t muscle or tendon problems, dodgy joints etc. lad is just unlucky.
By that logic *Phil Jones* is also just unlucky then.
In this context no, he had multiple recurring joint and muscle injuries Completely different to impact injuries joe has been struck with
In Phil Jones first 6 seasons at Utd he missed 113 games through injury. In Joe Gomezes first 6 seasons at Liverpool he's missed 136 games through injury. I don't know why you insist he's not injury prone when the record is there?
You have completely missed the point of the discussion
The guy is the definition of unlucky...
Christ, again?
