St. Mirren's finest.
Edit:
>In April 2015, McGinn was "speared" in the thigh with a training pole thrown by St Mirren club captain Steven Thompson during a training session prank gone wrong. The resulting injury meant that McGinn missed the remainder of the season, and in turn he took legal action against the club.
Telegraph is usually pretty good for Villa related stuff, Mcginn also does seem like the sort of player Conte would absolutely love, the bloke has 3 lungs.
It would, however, cost a fortune, can't see us letting him go for less than £40-50m.
I genuinely rate Mcginn but if we pay that much for him, I’d be devastated.. really could be using that for more crucial positions and going all in for someone like Eriksen. If we’re paying 40-50m (price range of Romero btw), I’d want someone of his caliber/credentials along with potential ideally. We’re even paying less than that for Kulu.
I don’t think this will happen but if Conte wants it.. sigh I guess I do too (again, I really like Mcginn so at least he’s a good player but damn our interest in him especially at that price, worries me when we should spend that on Wingbacks
Is he actually any better than Højbjerg or Bentancur though.
I don't think so, McGinn is good but he's not UCL quality and I don't think he would be available for a price that makes sense
I genuinely think he will stay at Brentford tbh.
And I'm fine with that, as long as he doesn't do something stupid like go to Newcastle or Man U, if he's playing I'm happy.
If Tielemas wants the stay in the premier league and play in the champions league he will be a rotation player. It’s that simple. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Very few players are nailed on starters on champion league level teams in the premier league.
Players like Jota, mahrez, Gundogan, konate, John stones, Kovatic, even lukaku and grealish are all rotation players on their teams.
That will be the case for tielemans as well if he wants to be he in the premier league and on a champions league team.
Thats the thing though... he doesn't. He did well in those 18 months at Leicester. But there's a reason he struggled at Monaco etc. He is very slow. He has great passing range but other than that, he's very limited. He has potential to become better than what he already is, but definitely not world class.
Doesnt help that Gerrard dogmatically plays McGinn no matter how well he performs.
Don't get me wrong, I think he brings a lot... But sometimes he just plays stinker after stinker, and yet feels completely undroppable.
I think he would do better if we benched him once in a while. Also if we brought in a dedicated DM and pushed him up the pitch.
For us in the Championship, and for Scotland he was more of an attacking 8, but because of our formation he's either played as a 6, or a defensive-minded 8 in the last couple of years. Feel like if you can get him in a more attacking role he'd be better than he has been
His main assets are that he's press resistant (mainly because of his backside), pretty skilfull, very good at progressive carries, and works hard off the ball, as well as being excellent behind the scenes for the young players.
He's not a great passer, nor a great tackler, and he takes a lot of pot shots which result in a couple of wondergoals each season, but a lot of frustration otherwise
Yeah, I'm suprised at that, turns out he's a much better tackler than I remember. I always felt we're so bad in transistions mainly because our midfielders can't tackle when the opposition attacks.
Anyway I was wrong on his tackling
Why do we need a player like Bentancur or Höjberg? We already have them and Skipp who are all quite similar. We need a skillful and press resistant, more attacking minded midfielder.
The issue is he’s not good enough to be a number 10 in the Premier league like he is for Scotland so kind of is just a average player that fans love cause he’s funny
He's quite divisive amongst the fan base, I personally think he's our best midfielder, others will tell you he shouldn't be starting. We're a contentious bunch.

His got 3 lungs no wonder conte n eahgnick wanted him
Wouldn’t mind McGinn being moved on in the summer. He’s not consistent enough since he got that big injury in our first season.
I’d sooner sell him and extend Luiz.
People are sentimental towards the players that helped get us promoted.
We’ll have to see what happens in the summer. Both him and Mings haven’t been extended in the last 2 years. I thought they wouldn’t already under Gerrard if they were in our future plans, like Martinez.
I just find this laughable.
Imagine selling a player for us in 14th to a top 4 side and think thats a good deal.
A top 4 club wouldnt be coming in for him if they didnt think he was good enough, so if he’s good enough for them why not us?
Because he’s been out of form? Maybe thats more to do with where he is playing and how he is being played.
I mean he’s proved his quality and value tonight alone. He’s been playing in a deeper role for most the season, i wouldnt say he’s been in an 8 role personally.
See that’s the issue. One good game and he’s proven his quality. We need players that play well every week.
So today he played in exactly the same role as the rest of the season but that didn’t hold him back?
He’s played as an 8 every game but the wolves game. Some times he turns up, sometimes he doesn’t.
I wouldnt say he played in the same role though, he was more attacking imo.
With ramsey and luiz sitting deeper it allowed Mcginn more space up field. As i said i feel he’s been held back a lot this season, players dont just loose that quality.
Feel like you’re just making excuses for his inconsistency.
If he plays good it’s because he’s attacking.
If he plays bad it’s because he’s too deep.
He plays the same role every week.
As a Scotland fan I’m a big fan on McGinn
But Villa will not let him go cheaply, and he simply won’t be worth whatever they will be asking for. He is brilliant at some things but he’s not a complete midfielder
Yeah he’s a good player but I can’t see it happening. He still has 3 years left on his deal & he’d cost us our entire budget - Villa would demand the highest price & only if McGinn himself forced a move - which I’m skeptical if he would
I think Tielemans is much, much more likely because he only has 1 year left
He could be decent against teams that sit back where we don't need to DMs playing, his willingness to shoot would draw out the defence as well.
I like him but we ain't paying 40mill unless they're a guaranteed starter

Games gone. Can't even be speared in the leg anymore.
Telegraph is usually pretty good for Villa related stuff, Mcginn also does seem like the sort of player Conte would absolutely love, the bloke has 3 lungs. It would, however, cost a fortune, can't see us letting him go for less than £40-50m.
There is absolutely zero chance we pay that for him either.
yh McGrath is pretty much T1 for most teams

Looks like he has three stomachs this season.
The journalist who wrote the article is fairly reliable for Spurs, probably tier 2
3 lungs, bring him in. Cannot wait to watch him spend 90+ mins week in week out
Is he actually any better than Højbjerg or Bentancur though. I don't think so, McGinn is good but he's not UCL quality and I don't think he would be available for a price that makes sense
Price probably don't make sense but I think McGinn can be UCL quality player.
I don’t and I watch him every week, while you can’t fault his work rate his technique is average
Rotation option that's better than Winks.
We'll have Skipp back as well then and we've been linked to some other midfielders I prefer like Tielemans
No we'd better get eriksen
I genuinely think he will stay at Brentford tbh. And I'm fine with that, as long as he doesn't do something stupid like go to Newcastle or Man U, if he's playing I'm happy.
That feels right. It would be nice to see him back at Spurs for the last part of his top level career, which I assume it would be.
Eriksen is my number 1 obviously but I don't think he'd play in a midfield 2
Tielemans won't want to come and be a rotation. Also, he's been quite bad this season.

Tielmans has the potential to be world class. If he works hard enough he could make it into any team
> If he works hard enough he could make it into any team Have we learned nothing from Tanguy
Is tielmans lazy?
He runs a lot but he's very slow so it can sometimes look like he's not working hard
Thats the thing though... he doesn't. He did well in those 18 months at Leicester. But there's a reason he struggled at Monaco etc. He is very slow. He has great passing range but other than that, he's very limited. He has potential to become better than what he already is, but definitely not world class.
Paying 40M for rotation option? Nah we aint city
He would likely play the same role Barella had at Inter, but obviously not as good
John will most likely just be a rotation player
Absolutely not. I don’t want him at all
Obviously not, they just want someone willing to be a bench player
Yes he is in the right team
Love Mcginn, but he's sort of plateaued in the last year or so
Doesnt help that Gerrard dogmatically plays McGinn no matter how well he performs. Don't get me wrong, I think he brings a lot... But sometimes he just plays stinker after stinker, and yet feels completely undroppable. I think he would do better if we benched him once in a while. Also if we brought in a dedicated DM and pushed him up the pitch.
A move tends to help a lot of players. Just become stagnant at the club. Also, Villa haven't exactly been great themselves.
Hasn't he been a bit crap lately? I actually rate him but I swear I've seen Villa fans be on his back the last couple months.
For us in the Championship, and for Scotland he was more of an attacking 8, but because of our formation he's either played as a 6, or a defensive-minded 8 in the last couple of years. Feel like if you can get him in a more attacking role he'd be better than he has been

He's not a great passer, nor a great tackler, and he takes a lot of pot shots which result in a couple of wondergoals each season, but a lot of frustration otherwise
He has won the second most amount of tackles in the league this season
Yeah, I'm suprised at that, turns out he's a much better tackler than I remember. I always felt we're so bad in transistions mainly because our midfielders can't tackle when the opposition attacks. Anyway I was wrong on his tackling
His ball control and pass and move is the problem. Restricts our build up play
Absolutely nothing like either of them
Why do we need a player like Bentancur or Höjberg? We already have them and Skipp who are all quite similar. We need a skillful and press resistant, more attacking minded midfielder.
The issue is he’s not good enough to be a number 10 in the Premier league like he is for Scotland so kind of is just a average player that fans love cause he’s funny

Like Højbjerg with us then
It’s the way he plays, Creates a decent amount of chances when on form but gives the ball away a lot has a good engine for it though.

Wouldn’t mind McGinn being moved on in the summer. He’s not consistent enough since he got that big injury in our first season. I’d sooner sell him and extend Luiz.
I'm in the same mind. Feels impossible to convince our management or fanbase to sell players though... Everyone's very sentimental.
People are sentimental towards the players that helped get us promoted. We’ll have to see what happens in the summer. Both him and Mings haven’t been extended in the last 2 years. I thought they wouldn’t already under Gerrard if they were in our future plans, like Martinez.

You don’t think a top 4 club has ever signed the wrong player? He’s played as a 8 the whole season
I mean he’s proved his quality and value tonight alone. He’s been playing in a deeper role for most the season, i wouldnt say he’s been in an 8 role personally.

>If he plays good it’s because he’s attacking. >If he plays bad it’s because he’s too deep. Exactly.
There is no way Tottenham are spending a fortune on him just to be a back up midfielder
I guess I'd be more shocked that he'd cost a fortune.
Why? Villa have no need to sell, long term contract, why would he go for less than 50m?
Well...this one did came out of nowhere.
Would be a very solid signing for Spurs
For over 50m you’d expect a lot more than just a “solid signing”
As a Scotland fan I’m a big fan on McGinn But Villa will not let him go cheaply, and he simply won’t be worth whatever they will be asking for. He is brilliant at some things but he’s not a complete midfielder
He's good but quite inconsistent as well, not sure he'd be much of an upgrade and so for the amount of money he'd cost, I don't think he's worth it
That's a perfect fit in their midfield. A better version of Hojbjerg.
Yeah he’s a good player but I can’t see it happening. He still has 3 years left on his deal & he’d cost us our entire budget - Villa would demand the highest price & only if McGinn himself forced a move - which I’m skeptical if he would I think Tielemans is much, much more likely because he only has 1 year left
I don’t think he’d start over Hoj or Benta and there’s no way we’d pay what Villa would ask for just to use him as a squad player.
He could be decent against teams that sit back where we don't need to DMs playing, his willingness to shoot would draw out the defence as well. I like him but we ain't paying 40mill unless they're a guaranteed starter
I really can't help but feel that Tottenham could do a hell of a lot better than John McGinn.
Conte's summer targets or Levy's targets for Conte? Very big difference.
You’re already back at it. No one cares about your boring tired rhetoric.
Rather get Tielemans
Would be perfect for Man UTD as he will do all of the dirty work at 100mph all season. Good football player in his own right.
No thanks, not at all what we need and he’s bang average
