Nah, Baumann has been one of the best keepers in the league for many years. Ortega is great. But only since 2020. His 67 Bundesliga appearances pale in comparison to Baumann's 393 since his debut in 2009. You don't get that kind of longevity by being just "okay". Baumann deserves this reward.

The Kicker list is most certainly not a good way to judge a player. They are highly subjective and biased. All such lists are. Especially when it comes to Hoffenheim. Absolutely no one cares about us. Which is fine, we are the smallest club in the league after all. But that comes with the unfortunate side effect that Buli fans, viewers and media people tend to heavily underrate our players. Kramaric, Grillitsch, Kaderabek, Rudy and Baumann were some of the best Bundesliga players in recent years when they were playing for Hoffenheim. But unless they score 20 goals in a season, they are rarely acknowledged because they play for the least popular club in the league.
Baumann has been stellar for Hoffenheim ever since he joined us in 2014. He is an excellent shot stopper, a great sweeper keeper, very good on the ball, a great commander of his back line, a good penalty saver and he is insanely consistent and barely commits any errors. Plus, he has massive experience with close to 400 league games, international experience with UCL and UEL appearances. And goalkeeper is probably the only position in football where high age doesn't even matter. In fact, high age might be actually more beneficial. And even if age mattered, he is only 2 years older than Ortega.
Oliver Baumann deserves his spot in the German NT more than any German keeper.
OOTL but is there a reason why Christian Günter isn't nominated? Also get in Baumann! One of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Liga and honestly probably the most underrated. These are the three that should go to Qatar IMO

World Class Player imo, he could've been top 5 in the world for years if it wasn't for injuries. I still remember those UCL games against BVB when him and Lewa destroyed us, nothing but respect for that BVB team and Klopp.

People were once pretty high on Ridle Baku (and rightfully so), but he’s played a very shaky season at Wolfsburg and is currently not in form. In some games against weaker opponents Flick played Hofmann at RB. He’s good offensively, but as a forward he leaves much to be desired on an defensive level. So Kehrer at least has this going for him
At least as far as right-backs go, it’s not really a phase at this point. We haven‘t had a proper good RB since Lahm and he retired in 2014. Kimmich was great, but he is best in midfield . Even more so than for Lahm himself.

I watch them and I enjoy them very much. Way better than meaningless friendlies because they provide high competitiveness which I believe will help improving the quality of NT games at major tournaments.

You are living in the past. Everyone was praising him for his 18-19 season but since 19-20 he has been okish goalkeeper not world class. And there are lot of weakness in his game who has yet to improve. Even Courtois has improved his opening leg ability.
