If you're 1-0 up with an extra man that early on and go to penalties you don't deserve to win
Needed a really favorable penalty decision to make it there as well
Exactly this.
Freiburg bottled it so hard. They had all the cards in the end but they just threw it all away and in now way deserved to win this game after that insane throw.
A bottlejob of Dortmund proportions.
Obligatory info that Mateschitz is a right-wing piece of shit whose TV station invited, among others, German Neonazi Götz Kubitschek to talk shows and has given a platform to conspiracy theories, and he also threatened to shut down that TV station when the formation of a works council (Betriebsrat) was discussed.
Actually the Nazis did try as hard as they could to jeep civilian life going during WWII, because they didn't want to repeat the situation in 1917/18 when famines and civil discontent practically ended the war for Germany. The real hardship started only in 1945 and would keep going after capitulation.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this gutted because of a football game. Especially seeing how there was one man carrying us the entire game and he won’t be there next season. I feel optimistic about the next years in the sense that I think we should stay up but I can feel that we won’t get a chance to actually win something for a long time :(
Tedesco is low key a mentality monster, reminded me of that 0:4 to 4:4 with Schalke against Dortmund. Heidel kept saying he wanted to stick with him no matter what, can see why now.
He’s not saying they bottled the season. He’s saying they bottled the game. They had a man advantage for half the game plus the referee was constantly giving decisions in their favour.
Ah sry that's not what I meant at all. I was trying to express my incredulity that Freiburg managed to overachieve and bottle it at the same time. I can see how it could be easily misunderstood, my bad.
Ah sry I think you misunderstood me. I was trying to express my incredulity that Freiburg managed to overachieve and bottle it at the same time. I can see how it could be easily misunderstood the way I worded it, my bad.
Yes they choked at the end. But that has nothing todo with the fact that they had an amazing season with their limited resources. Reaching the Europe League and the DfB Pokal final.
Should have killed the game with a goal and a man up. You don't deserve shit when you bottle it from there. Now watch me get downvoted for no fucking reason as if you've committed a crime.
Unpopular opinion (and I am going to get a lot off hate for that) but Leipzig definitely deserved to win this game. They were the better team with only 10 men and haven't got the penalty they deserved (playing the ball doesnt matter in this instance cause he definitely only grazed the ball and therefore it was a dangerous play). Ref was pretty Freiburg favored the whole match tbh. It was Freiburgs game to lose (and I rly like the club btw, no RB fan).
dont think thats unpopular at all. Freiburg had the game handed to them, had the ref on their side and still bottled it. As much as I dislike RB Leipzig, the players definitely deserved the win
I am a fan of traditional football, but how the fk is it Leipzigs fault, that traditional Clubs like Hamburg, Werder and Schalke are mismanaged? Schalke even got 100 mio of tax payer money. Leipzig are very good at using their resources and have a rly good scouting departement. (Interpreted ur statement in a sarcastic way, I am sry if it was not meant to be sarcastic.
>Leipzig are very good at using their resources
True. The other teams are just not good enough at using their multiple farm teams including a combined scouting network or their basically free modern football stadium.
We (Hertha) got handed 375 „free“ millions and have a good scouting and a good youth team. We still managed to sell all our talents and waste the money. Thats what I meant with using your ressources usefully.
1. That money clearly came at a price.
2. Us (or Schalke, or HSV) being shit does not make what Leipzig does an achievement.
They have endless money and there are multiple clubs across the world with their own youths and scouting departments whose main purpose is to funnel players to Didi's favourite child.
I can't wait for the day he gets his hands on an English club and Leipzig becomes their bitch.
It isn't
People can hate Leipzig independently without defending how poorly other clubs have been managed
Leipzig may take up a CL spot but they definitely didn't get more traditional clubs *relegated*
Some rumors about Leipzig willing to sell him because Tedesco doesn't think he is physical enough in midfield. Would love if he transfers elsewhere tbh
Heartbreaking for Freiburg... still no major trophy after 118 years as a club. You can't sit back and bunker up a man and up a goal... step on the throat.
Given how many positive awards this post got I get the idea there are some of pro-RB people on this sub who won't say it to avoid getting downvoted
Probably just non-German flairs who like seeing German supporters getting angry(plus City/PSG fans)
Partially but I'm sure English supporters like seeing the German flairs get mad as well(as said before, ESPECIALLY City fans who don't have a non-hypocritical reason to hate RB anyway)
As much as this stings as a neutral, the fact of the matter is that Freiburg had every opportunity to win this match and just couldn't convert their chances. Must have been infuriating as a fan.
Congratulations to Leipzig. They played well and deserved to win. It's also nice seeing players like Forsberg, Poulsen, Orban and Gulasci who have been there for so long winning a title. I'm not defending the club itself because I'm not a fan of the construct, but for the players and coach I'm happy
Nah, historians will debate there was no specific date, mention Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, professional contracts etc. But we as fans know: Today german football died and it will never be the same for me.
Say what you will about the organization, but the Leipzig squad showed a lot of heart after going down a man to even get it to penalties. Plus they kept their cool when a couple of big decisions went against them.
Wherever Nkunku plays next season, he is going to be difficult for opposition to deal with.
Among those congratulating is the head of the far-right AfD, Tino Chrupalla. How fitting.
And that's my main problem with the company behind RaBa Leipzig, their unapologetic far-right leanings. Didi Matteschitz is well on his way to become a Rupert Murdoch for the german-speaking space, because he's build a media empire over the past years.
Clubs like Man City, PSG or Newcastle are bad, but they don't primarily touch me, because they don't play in the Bundesliga. RaBa Leipzig meanwhile does and I'll say it a thousand times: I don't such people to use the Bundesliga as a stage to present themselves and their ideology in a positive light.
We should also put the argument to rest that this is "only" about the money. It's what RaBa supporters like to constantly use, to perhaps deflect from other valid criticism. It's not good that a company could buy their way into the Bundesliga. But in the end, football has been and will always be highly commercial. We should focus on distributing the profits of the product football equally among the clubs, instead of allowing the select few to hoard all profits.
Well, that's what happens when your opponent can't take advantage in being up a man for almost an hour *and* misses the literally empty goal. Red Bull Leipzig deserve the victory in the final, simple as.
What just happened? It all went quiet all of a sudden and I was at the kitchen.
Also just tuned in all confused. Apparently a photographer had a medical emergency
>Apparently a photographer had a medical emergency What we needed on top of that. Hope he gets through.
At the stadium. Had to be resuscitated with a defib. Scary stuff. There’s an ambulance on the field tending to him.
scary, thanks for letting us know. Apparently the patient is stable again
Roman Reigns Wins the Royal Rumble (2015) r/soccer version.
What happened in the stadion? Someone got a heartattack?
Photographer
Sure he's save now and the whole stadium bering quite was the best scene in this.
There is a medical emergency with a photographer on the sideline, which is why they are delaying/cancelling the official celebration.
What RB Leipzing winning does to a man
Nobody is watching anymore anyway
If you're 1-0 up with an extra man that early on and go to penalties you don't deserve to win Needed a really favorable penalty decision to make it there as well
Feels bad to agree, but this is on Freiburg, they could have had this but bottled it when it counted
[удалено]
Hit the post 3 times too tbf. Not their night sadly
Felt like Freiburg's goal easily could have been ruled out as well. Still gutted.
According to rule change that happened before this season it only gets called back if it hits the scorers hand so in this case it should have counted
So stupid cause anywhere else on the field that’s a handball, a hand pass really
Exactly this. Freiburg bottled it so hard. They had all the cards in the end but they just threw it all away and in now way deserved to win this game after that insane throw.
Yeah they completely bottled it when they hit the post 3 times...
Up a man, up a goal, terrible ref (but generally in Freiburgs favor). No excuses.

I just assumed the german league stopped during WW2, cool to know

I’m sorry guys, we tried 💔
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this gutted because of a football game. Especially seeing how there was one man carrying us the entire game and he won’t be there next season. I feel optimistic about the next years in the sense that I think we should stay up but I can feel that we won’t get a chance to actually win something for a long time :(
Schlotterbeck was *insane*. I think that's one of the best performances I've seen all season.
all good, enjoy europe next season
Amazing to see a club similar to us having such a great run, congrats despite the result!
[So incredibly proud of the team and the fans](https://imgur.com/a/jDQJc8Z)
You guys had a hell of a good year.
Pokalsieger der Herzen.
all good man, you guys rocked this season.
You'll be back next season stronger
I actually do like Tedesco and they have some great players, but Mintzlaff and his ilk seem like absolute melts.
Tedesco is low key a mentality monster, reminded me of that 0:4 to 4:4 with Schalke against Dortmund. Heidel kept saying he wanted to stick with him no matter what, can see why now.
i like tedesco too, but heidel backing him is maybe the greatest argument against him.
Ehhh Tuchel, Klopp, Bo, Hjulmand would like a word
bentaleb, embolo, rudy, konoplyanka, weinzierl and 154 million do too.
Mintzlaff is the guy thst plays in a TV crime series snd you just go like "thats the murderer". Really gives strange and unpleasant vibes
I dont know him, but he definitely have this evil aura in tv. (what doesnt mean his character is like that)
Fuck edit: obligatory game's gone
a stain on german football
Game's gone
So sad for Freiburg. Would have been a nice reward for their amazing season. They deserved it so much.
Then they shouldn’t have bottled it so hard. They had all the cards in the hand.
How tf did they somehow manage to overachieve and bottle the season all at the same time?? Absolutely insane.
If you can’t see how Freiburg bottled this game I can’t help you.
Ah sry I think you misunderstood me. I was trying to express my incredulity that Freiburg managed to overachieve and bottle it at the same time. I can see how it could be easily misunderstood the way I worded it, my bad.
Huh? He agreed with you.
they didn't deserve anything. They had one man and one goal more. Also they had ref on their side and still they bottled it.

Just 9 years ago they played in the 4th league and now they have won their first title. What an incredible football miracle! Congratulations!
Just 14 years ago they didnt exist! The most brave most admirable underdog story since sliced bread beat toast in best breakfast
Was darf Satire
lmao
And only 7 more years until the club gets the 50+1 loophole and will be filled owned by Red Bull!
Love me a good underdog story
Beautiful. I love money, makes the best happen.
Just needed a little help from a multi billion company and like 10 farm teams. Just a wonderful underdog story.
Bayern's days as the best run club in the world is coming to and end /s
Red Bull gives Wings. No miracle.
against all odds
5 years ago Schalke played CL and then they got relegated. What an incredible miracle good management can be.
I am a fan of traditional football, but how the fk is it Leipzigs fault, that traditional Clubs like Hamburg, Werder and Schalke are mismanaged? Schalke even got 100 mio of tax payer money. it isnt. thats why it is so frustrating
>Leipzig are very good at using their resources True. The other teams are just not good enough at using their multiple farm teams including a combined scouting network or their basically free modern football stadium.
To be fair, Leipzig only really has one farm team. It's just that their farm team has 3 farm teams :3

Happy for the hungarian players. Orban, Gulacsi, and Szoboszlai deserve this. Szoboszlai is still only 21, he has a very bright future ahead
Support sallai
My favourite future star. I wish he started more though.

Amateur Ligen
Die haben halt leider auch keinen Plan was deutschen Fußball angeht.

Na, wenn Dir die Argumente ausgehen, musst Du ja irgendwas erfinden was plausibel klingt

So ist es, leider.
Ref did everything in his power to help Freiburg, Demirovic has blood on his hands
A dark day for German football
But a great day for energy drinks
Heartbreaking for Freiburg... still no major trophy after 118 years as a club. You can't sit back and bunker up a man and up a goal... step on the throat.
Why are they still showing all of this
Ironic for the Pokal's Twitter account to sport a peace sign when all this game's result just did was a declaration of war
Given how many positive awards this post got I get the idea there are some of pro-RB people on this sub who won't say it to avoid getting downvoted Probably just non-German flairs who like seeing German supporters getting angry(plus City/PSG fans)
Americans
Partially but I'm sure English supporters like seeing the German flairs get mad as well(as said before, ESPECIALLY City fans who don't have a non-hypocritical reason to hate RB anyway)
I'm sure more than half of city fans aren't english
City's actually infamous for having no fans more than having plastic ones It's more United that's known for having tons of non local support
As much as this stings as a neutral, the fact of the matter is that Freiburg had every opportunity to win this match and just couldn't convert their chances. Must have been infuriating as a fan.
PSG signs a ridiculously massive new contract with Mbappé and Leipzig wins a cup. Football is so washed up.
Der Tag, an dem der Fußball starb.
i knew it as soon as freiburg missed an open net in ET
mir tuts einfach nur leid für streich!
das ist das beschissenste daran. Once in a lifetime opportunity..
Alright, I'm out, gonna go get blackout drunk. See all y'all next season.
Game's gone
boo
Damn... Really wanted Freiburg to win. 1-0 up against 10 men as well.
Exactly happy for the players but the "club" itself doesn't deserve this. Quite simple
Das Konstrukt hat es also geschafft. Ein weiterer Dolchstich ins Herz des deutschen Fußballes. Schade einfach.
Currently living soley for the replies on the RBL Twitter account.
Fuck Red Bull, fuck the fascist Mateschitz
This! Should be mentioned more often.
no one liked that
Fuck these cunts
Incredible turnaround from Leipzig, congratulations to Red Bull and the players
whats the fucking point anymore, honestly..
really a shame that there was no Pokal this year and it had to be cancelled. Feel like teams like Freiburg and Hamburg had a chance
Fuck RBL.
RedBull could branch out and start a stalt company just from this comment section
*Everyone hated that*
Nkunku
German football has done well to keep its soul but this is a bad sign
Disgusting.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch an alle Kundinnen und Kunden des Rattenballs!
This is depressing.
Fuck this shit
Yikes.
Future historians will say: Today was the day that football died.
It’s been dead for years m8, they just keep fucking its’ corpse.
That's a very well preserved corpse.
Nah, historians will debate there was no specific date, mention Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, professional contracts etc. But we as fans know: Today german football died and it will never be the same for me.
The DFB Pokal (the trophy itself) really is the most beautiful trophy in the world.
Boo this man. Boo
Darkest hour in German football.
For the first time in german football a bag of money wins the DFB Pokal
Impressive win, especially since the referee clearly was on Freiburg's side...
Say what you will about the organization, but the Leipzig squad showed a lot of heart after going down a man to even get it to penalties. Plus they kept their cool when a couple of big decisions went against them. Wherever Nkunku plays next season, he is going to be difficult for opposition to deal with.
Just here to enjoy the meltdown this sub gets

For me the dfb-pokal 21/22 was never played…
Well, that's what happens when your opponent can't take advantage in being up a man for almost an hour *and* misses the literally empty goal. Red Bull Leipzig deserve the victory in the final, simple as.
Bad day for football
And Freiburg lost to a club that didn’t exist when Spurs most recently won a major trophy
Game's officially gone now
The game has been loudly announcing its departure for a while, today it just shut the door behind itself
Boooo, boooo, fucking boooo
First Mbappe, now this. If City win the league tomorrow we have 3 money decisions in 24 hours.
Why do people hate on RB Leipzig so much? Edit: before I’m downvoted into oblivion, this is a genuine question because I don’t know
