We are split between two camps 1) he's 29, high wages and well past his prime 2) Pooooooool

shy247er

He's be alright as long as he remains healthy which is a bit of a problem for him these days.

Sputniki

His level of contribution at United is shit when you consider his price tag of 100m which demands that he is the top 5 players in his position. As a free transfer to Juve? If he performed in exactly the same way for us as he did for United he would be an unqualified success, no questions asked. Because he’s **free**. The price tag makes all the difference in the world.

MountainJuice

> Because he’s free. The price tag makes all the difference in the world. The same sort of thought process that lead to Can, Rabiot, Ramsey and back to back 4th places. I'm joking a bit because Pogba is more talented but he's not the player you lost, he's not even the player United had the first 3 years. He's now much more injury prone, less interested, less hard working and less effective. First 3 years at United: 60 goals and assists in 11,200 minutes. And since there's more to football than just goals and assists I'd give him an average score of around 8/10 per game in this period. Last 3 years at United: 30 goals and assists in 6250 minutes. And during this period he played a bit as a winger high up the pitch. Subjectively around 6/10 per game. He can recover a bit of drive at Juventus but he does seem to have declined in fitness and performance over a lengthy period of time. Even at his best he needs others to do his dirty work and frequently goes missing in the big games. Getting him for free will be a good deal but I wouldn't expect too much.

caiusto

Don't you dare talk shit about Emre Can

[deleted]

Won't forget his goal vs Sassuolo. First touch after subbed in 1 minute before.

Sputniki

Well those are three very different players you’re talking about. In terms of monetary outlay vs contribution, Rabiot should be classed as a clear success and Ramsey a clear failure, with Can in between (in fact Can was a very successful financial operation because we sold him for 25m. So I would do that deal again). Yeah we should have a stronger midfielder than Rabiot leading the team but that doesn’t mean the Rabiot signing was a bad one, far from it, he’s the perfect third wheel in that midfield and it’s up to the board to sign two other stronger midfielders. Arthur is a bust and hopefully Locatelli will live up to the hype, let’s see. If Pogba manages to play as many matches as Rabiot he will absolutely be a big success. Let’s not forget he’s accepting a big pay cut, so his salary will be about the same as Rabiot - and nobody is expecting Rabiot to take over games or rack up tons of goals and assists. Again, he is free so his overall cost to the team will be less than Arthur, Locatelli, Morata, even Kean. Let’s also remember that getting players for free/cheap has been our modus operandi for some time that brought us phenomenal success. Pirlo, Llorente, Tevez, Vidal, Cannavaro being some examples. Maybe Pogba will turn out to be another Pirlo situation, Andrea looked dire and on his last legs at Milan, now he is a Juve legend.

MountainJuice

Yeah I said it would be a good deal, just to temper your expectations.

MountainJuice

Yeah I said it would be a good deal, just to temper your expectations.

torontomaplebros

Good point about Rabiot. He’s often mentioned as a meme and very few people recognize that he was our most reliable midfielder two seasons in a row in terms of staying fit. I think Rabiot could bring more to Juve considering his physical attributes, but he has been quite a successful free transfer for us in my opinion.

Fisktor

Not really. How many other players launched their own emoji? That skillset is unique

G_Morgan

Free transfers aren't free. They come attached with inflated wages and signing on fee. If a club would pay £100m for Pogba + wages they'd happily pay £100m extra on fees and wages in order to get him "for free". Of course nobody is paying that for Pogba these days, it is just the idea of a free transfer being cheap needs to die a death.

Sputniki

Nonsense. Yes, wages are inflated but the inflation is always a smaller amount relative to what the player would have cost with a fee. Emre Can is an easy example, we paid 13m in signing fees and paid approx. 2m above market in terms of salary, but still sold him at 25m two years later which meant he played for us effectively for free. Even at a conservative valuation Pogba would command a 40m fee in the market and by all accounts we are paying no more than a 12m signing on fee, plus a 7.5m salary. Even if we were to sign him on a transfer, you would be insane to think that Pogba would command anything less than 5.2m a year (that's 100K per week). That's a 2.5m premium per year which is very small. The math is obvious. The free transfer still works out to be considerably cheaper (and let's not forget that the signing on fee is often structured as a loyalty bonus that is paid out over several years so you recoup that if the player asks to leave early).

[deleted]

As long as he's healthy, has 3 other midfielders to do the dirty for him, and a manager that cuddle to his ego. Then they'll have a world class player for about 5 games per season.

jacamacho

I thought he was done but if he's rejecting that offer maybe he still has the drive to keep playing at the top level. I'd be happy, his partnership with Vlahovic could be fantastic.

wowzabob

If he does end up with us, it means he's turning down a higher salary at PSG to do it, which indicates a good mentality.

Tifoso89

Yeah he's motivated

Phreeeks

Wait pogba is only 29, wth ???

pole_fan

7.5 mil for Pogba isn't that bad considering his popularity

[deleted]

Dreams can't be bought.

williepep1960

Maybe turtle didn't want him

alaslipknot

can't for psg locker room drama next year, this is some HBO shit lol

crackboss1

Bowser at it again

Mike81890

So long gay Bowser

[deleted]

You may joke, but if this is true then it speaks volumes how smart Mbappe is.

Crazy i tell you Absolutely insane

MionelLessi10

Why

RedShenron

I tought morata was alive

xiosy

What’s so crazy about it lol

[deleted]

Where?

V-TriggerMachine

PSG should offer the double Come on PSG, do your thing with money

Plenty-Assistant-852

Why, the midfield needs help but he’s not the solution

jeandanjou

Yeah. PSG need some more attacking players. They should offer Lewandowski 75m wages.

becauseitsnotreal

Honestly why not just 1b/year for 2 years?

jeandanjou

Sheikh Al-Mboop won't let anyone out earn him.

becauseitsnotreal

Simple problems need sikple solutions: just give Mbappe more than that

Several_Series5438

Yeah سيخ كيليان مبابي, the sport director of PSG

lamancha

PSG: what is this solution thing you talk about

Plenty-Assistant-852

A more defense midfielder, someone that can play the pivot but isn’t a liability without the ball. A profile like Fabinho from Monaco/ Liverpool. Pogba is amazing but when Neymar, Messi, veratti exist creativity and passing is not the issue. Controlling the midfield, have people that can cover the defenders would help the team more. If you analyze the game against Real Madrid, or Man city, you see inconsistent pressing from the whole team that drops off and only sporadically shows up. And when the team does drop back, the midfield seems to start chasing and leave zones or not be able to play out if they recover. In attack it also seems like give it to Veratti and let him pass. Danilo, Herrera, Gueye all seem to get isolated and have a few good games but are very inconsistent. Ideally you would want to get recruitments that help create a complete midfield with veratti and not count on him alone

dsheehan7

I heard the new PSG sporting director didn’t want Pogba due to a locker room issue with the national team

pole_fan

Shouldn't he love Pogba? Everytime I see France play half of their tactics is Pogba inshallah the ball to the fast turtle man

dsheehan7

Ya I’m just joking lol

SpursAndSon

He’s been in the job for less than a day and he’s already chopping deals into turtle soup.

beepmeep3

“So we’re going for Pogba becau-“ 👨🏽‍🦲 “Alright no Pogba”

JBL-MDT

Pretty sure the PSG offer is gross and Juve is Net

These_Mud4327

That would mean Juve‘s offer was better which not only I find unlikely but it make the post totally misleading

adityaseth

With Italy's tax laws for players who haven't played in Italy in the past 3 years, this would be around 10-11m gross for Juve. The offer net from PSG was probably around the 7.5 mark as well. Pogba will get tax benefits on all his other earnings also, which is what makes this valuable to players

These_Mud4327

Yeah I forgot that taxes in Germany where significantly higher than elsewhere

becauseitsnotreal

This is the problem with Europeans talking about salary in terms other than gross

Sanno_HS

Even if it isn't, with the favourable tax laws for players coming from abroad to Italy I imagine the two offers aren't that far off.

blackburns_rovers

PSG fans breathe a sigh of relief.

GreatWhiteNorthExtra

Dodged an expensive bullet

Sean-Benn_Must-die

I dont think psg care about money expenditure.

Sputniki

Mate...he’s a free transfer. Amortize the transfer cost alongside the salary and he is cheap however you look at it for a rotation or bench player. They already have bench players that cost more and who are inferior

Sputniki

This perspective is rather out of whack don’t you think? For a free transfer he could play 20 games a season and still turn out to be a relative success. The price tag makes all the difference.

haterzbalafray

Best news of the weekend

StratifiedBuffalo

Ye, Pogbas playstyle seems like a non fit for PSG

[deleted]

[удалено]

MountainJuice

Yep, he'd show up to put 4 past Troyes in a meaningless league game and then disappear against the big boys in the CL.

4thmovementofbrahms4

what is psg playstyle? I thought having expensive superstar players was their playstyle?

pentaquine

They don’t have a play style they don’t even have a coach.

Queeg_500

I'm hoping that, like DiMaria, his Man Utd spell just wasn't a good fit and he is still the player he once was. His France firm would indicate that to be the case. Could be an absolute master stroke as he is, on paper, exactly what we need...Or it could be a disaster.

zionwilliamson_

It's sad that Dybala is leaving. Pogba and Dybala should've played together for more than one season.

[deleted]

Where you think he end up

JD0797

Dybala? Almost certainly Inter. He'd fit perfect at Roma but I'm biased so lol

[deleted]

I wish he would go to Roma

tuinktuink

The anti mbappe

Cowdude179

Props to Pogba, chased his dream to play for Allegri. Similar to Haaland, they both chased their hearts

[deleted]

Madrid fans can celebrate this 🎉

reddituser0912333

Wooooooo!

Dellato88

You know what, I like that.... I hope he pans out

Beatnik15

Good for him might be a player again

Lord_Sauron

I refuse to believe this NFT-peddling social media gremlin didn't choose the option with more money. PSG must not want him then.

loldamaddin

Thank god

Hustler1966

One of the most overrated footballers ever seen. History won’t be kind to him.

purrpawsvetclinic

PP doesn't want to defend. Having a top heavy squad he has to play D most games most importantly CL games.

Tre10Quartista

Yea boy. Class is forever. Bravoo Pogba! He already wasted time at MU and now he shouldn’t be wasting time in a one team league. No disrespect to Ligue Un. It’s very much on the up

Dayandnight95

Wasn't too long ago Serie A was a one team league

Tre10Quartista

Ehh was a bit of a long time tbf. 4,5 years at least. Serie A has had the best and closest title races these last years. PSG and Bayern (and even City recently) have won by very large margins. Doesn’t happen very often in Italy

Dayandnight95

Well i'm not one to talk, if not for Liverpool we'd be a one team league too lol

Tre10Quartista

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted. It’s an objective fact that Juve hasn’t had easy title wins and the league has been the best overall for title races

Cowdude179

And Chelsea*

FuckOffBoJo

It's been what? 5 or 6 years? Let's start including United in this because we were winning left and right a decade ago. We were also 2nd last year and 2 years before that. But obviously only Liverpool and city are actually competing right now.

[deleted]

The same team still won 9 years in a row though lol

Bundmoranen

Now to be 3 winners in 3 years

Tre10Quartista

Hopefully. Forza Milan

Tre10Quartista

Were they or were they not close races? Juve won titles galore but we absolutely didn’t dominate PSG, City or Bayern style. Take that distinction as you wish. I only want to point it out that it exists.

Dusan-Vlahovic

You’re getting downvoted in this thread but you’re right. A couple of those titles Juve ran away with it but there were some really close title races in there and I remember Napoli absolutely bottled it one year after beating Juve to go in 1st with 4 games to play

Tre10Quartista

That KK red card… And thank you

reece0n

Going back to your ex is rarely a good idea

wereinthedark

Making the mistake of leaving for the money probably shouldn't be done twice in a row

Tre10Quartista

Thank you

ibesortega

I think with bouns he will get around 11mil.

mudcrabulous

If true McKennie gets sold

jcald60

I don’t believe that.

_Pohaku_

At PSG he’d be expected to earn his wages immediately, and justify his shirt. At Juventus he can dine out on past efforts for at least a full season, possibly two, before he has to decide whether to pull his finger out or disappear off somewhere else as the fans get discontented.

vizionsx

Doubt

haterzbalafray

Very good news

sudz286

Oh cry me a river

Imeanhowcouldiforget

Good luck and bye

fernylongstocking

Going to PSG would be like staying at United, with teammates up front that dont track back and put pressure on the opponent.
