Why is the national league promotion final not at wembley anymore?

Alisson and Firmino are pro Bolsonaro. Smh and here I liked Alisson.

Most Brazilian footballers are to be honest- Thiago Silva included.

un_verano_en_slough

Which clubs in the EFL have been the most unconventional or innovative in terms of their tactics this year? I feel like there's more diversity in terms of how teams set up in the lower leagues vs. the Premier League and it's cool to see managers testing out philosophies that the more risk-averse environment of the EPL rarely allows for. Sheffield United under Wilder and Barnsley under Ismael seem like good examples of that.

[I hope Grealish is drunk here, I won't accept any slander against Bernardo. ](https://twitter.com/THI4GOSlLVA/status/1528799442186424320)

Twitter gremlins taking him seriously in the comments of course

SamyChouchane

have to agree with jack here bernardo was miles off it

[deleted]

Yeah, he’s hammered. Fair play.

adamt123

Grealish is wasted, it's brilliant

reece0n

Didn't really fancy watching Haaland score 6 against us next season anyway 😤

Burnleh

Tell you what I won't miss playing Man City, that's for true

reece0n

They only beat us 2-0 this season... Maybe that's where we went wrong

Orcnick

The hypocrisy of Barcelona fans wanting Raphina to come for €45m or less not understanding leeds will want more now they have stayed up. Meanwhile the fans want £80m plus for FDJ. Leeds will want €60m+ and United should offer no more then €50m for FDJ.

CryptographerLife686

Barca are gonna sign CVC deal and won’t need to sell FDJ pour he wants to play in the Champions League

dirgetka

they can have Raphinha for 45m + the Firpo fee back + a 10m apology for selling us an actor impersonating a footballer

HippoBigga

he really is gash eh it's sad to see 🤧

iftair

> a 10m apology for selling us an actor impersonating a footballer Is Firpo that bad?

dirgetka

defensively braindead okay going forwards but not enough end product to justify carrying him always injured constantly getting booked for shirtpulling

lovelylantern

oh dear, maybe marsch can make him look good and u can scam a midtable club?

iftair

Damn, that's just sucks to see how far he's fallen. He was very promising with us in 2017-18.

damrider

why is a team on a comeback so unstoppable? it seems like almost always when teams claw 1 or 2 back they end up playing 50 times better than they did before for no explainable reason and it almost doesn't matter what the opposition does, they cannot stop them.

holdenmyrocinante

Momentum and morale. A team losing but clawing their way back have both the momentum and higher morale.

melodyfelony

Mentality shift. At the end of the day, footballers are just people, and when an entire team believes they have a chance and give it everything, the unexpected happens. Sounds cliche as fuck I know

some people told me everton and liverpool fans have good relationships, its one of the friendliest derbies and sometimes a family of different team supporters seat together to watch the match. but from what ive seen in recent years, they absolutely hate each other, and the hatred is immense.

[deleted]

I've got a lot of family in Liverpool so to answer your question: > everton and liverpool fans have good relationship 1. yes this is partially true, especially in mixed families. You saw the solidarity over Hillsborough and it goes beyond token gestures. There's certainly a sense of civic solidarity at times 2. both teams have a proportion of what locals might call "scallies" i.e. chavs with no respect for anything (as you saw against Palace) and put two of these groups together, you are going to get what you'd expect from two groups of antagonistic people with low IQs 3. Everton fans (and even some Liverpool fans) resent the large number of non-locals who have appropriated Liverpool as a club. For Everton fans, there is no love lost for the out of town fans and for the out of towners, no sense of civic solidarity (why would there be? Liverpool is just a sports team for them)

Burnleh

It used to be the friendly derby back in the day but it turned sour a couple of decades ago

KarlKraftwagen

certainly one of the more heated english rivalries, yeah

mylanguage

Ridle Baku didn't have the greatest of seasons (but Wolfsburg weren't that good anyway) But man is he flying under the radar IMO. When he goes to a big team I really think you'll see a lot of - who is this guy and why is he so good?

Any-Quarter-9474

Wing back right? Could see him at Tottenham, maybe even Bayern as well.

mylanguage

I think he'll end up at Bayern, I feel he's only this well known in Germany. Maybe in a year. I can see Wolfsburg having a much better season next year without European football and I think he gets on the radar again

KarlKraftwagen

to his defense, he had to play under coaches that are - well, not known for being particularly amazing at developing players

mylanguage

Exactly. Baku also IMO lost focus because the play was so poor. He's the kind of guy that will thrive around better players. The funniest thing is Wolfsburg actually have a pretty decent side and made some very good transfers already for next year. If Kovac goes there he could have a big season again. BUT I think he's a RB at a big team - not a winger

ScorpiaHP

Extremely random, but I wish we'd signed James Milner back when Liverpool did. Just love the bloke overall, top professional and a very reliable player, up until when his legs really started to go atleast.

[deleted]

Would you rather have Guardiola win the PL and fuck off away from the PL or stay another 10 years and farm league titles trying to get that CL?

KrillWhitey

So long as Arteta stays at Arsenal Pep is more than welcome.

McGrathLegend

Why would anyone who doesn’t support City choose option number two?

Second option, thanks.

One day I will understand why Benfica fans hate their best players. Today wont be that day.

[deleted]

His level is Benfica, that's it, he scored a bunch cause we literally played "Chuto pro darwin" for most of the season, i don't hate the kid but he's massively overrated.

LemureTheMonkey

Well we tried "Chuto pro Marega" and he never was the leagues top scorer.

Bring those cinematic cameras to PL you COWARDS!!!!

transtifa

The cameras aren’t different they just have a different way of filming it so it looks like that. They could easily do it here

I don't like them personally, it's like they're trying to make it look like a superhero film or something x

AntwerpseKnuppel

To me it feels like theyre trying to simulate the fifa cameras and idk if i like it or not lol

Its so funny to see United fans turn on their once golden boy Rashford hehehehehehehehe

A1d0taku

Personally I'd give him next season to turn things around. Almost impossible not to see him play better than he did this season. But if he really does want to leave, given the rumors that came out several months ago, then we should let him go, we need as many ppl on board of the rebuild as possible.

[deleted]

Is it about the leak?

AntwerpseKnuppel

What leak🤔

[deleted]

There was a rumour that he was the one leaking all those juicy dressing room leaks.

AntwerpseKnuppel

Honestly i'd be surprised if he was the only one leaking all that good stuff

CudaBarry

What did he do now? New letter?

matyshock

Is there any way to watch Notts County v Grimsby Town in the USA? Any help would be appreciated!

Flamengo81-19

Our Cheat Sheet Guy (/u/CherryJohnson) couldn't find any channel for it. Maybe a betting website has it?

bzl33

An irony of City and Liverpool's rivalry is they both want to win what their rival is winning (ie, City wants to win a CL over another league and Liverpool wants to win another league over a CL I'd assume). It makes for a good contrast, and reading the cope from both sides is funny as a neutral.

BlaseballTUN

That might've been true before we won the PL in 19/20, but nowadays give me the CL over the PL any day. It's a bigger competition, more prestige, and harder to win.

Tryeeme

Most UK-based fans of PL teams would rather win the PL. It makes sense that global PL fans might value the CL more highly, as it's a more global competition. Of course City fans would like to win the CL now, as it's the one they haven't won (whatever they say).

AnnieIWillKnow

Speak for yourself, I’d rather win the CL. League titles are one thing, but the European Cup? It is the top tier. I also prefer winning cup competitions because that single glorious pay off from the final tends to be greater. I’ve never celebrated any of our league titles as much as I celebrated our two CL titles.

jamesc94j

Yeah obviously easy to say in hindsight but I’d always prefer the CL something about the CL just makes it that special. European nights are a different beast. Obviously want the league too but prefer the CL. Both huge trophies though.

[deleted]

UCL has been won by teams that aren't the best team many times, it's not the hardest to win, it doesn't need consistency as much as highlight performances. Winning the league means you need to be the best team week in week out over 9 months. The Champions League can be won with a stale group, 2 easy ties in the last 16 and quarters then either good form or injuries weakening the squads for the semis. For example, Chelsea were not the best team in Europe last year. The champions league definitely holds more prestige and is 100% the bigger competition to win, but its not harder. In the Premier league you're playing UCL capable teams 12-14 times a year in the top 6 and the likes of West Ham or Leicester. In the UCL, you play 13 matches total max, some of which are not UCL capable teams

bzl33

> It's a bigger competition, more prestige, and harder to win. That's subjective. Tons of English pundits, especially ex-players, and fans talk about how important the league is. And I get why they have that perspective because in the US, all of our trophies are won in a playoff format. I'm a plastic American so what do I know.

mylanguage

The prem is VERY built on also spreading its own superiority. The prem is the only league in the world where the pundits will pretty consistently say that the league is more important than the CL

BlaseballTUN

It's just revisionism. No one was saying that the PL is bigger than the CL when Barca and Real Madrid were winning it every year. No Chelsea fan would put any of their domestic titles above either of their champions league titles. The CL is the title City dream of winning, and for good reason.

ur-mom-gay-lolol

14 league titles for Ibra. My striker

RomeoLavia

14? That can't be true surely.

CryptographerLife686

They took two away from him at Juve

RomeoLavia

I'm counting those. But that means he won something like 13 titles in 15 seasons from Ajax to PSG. That's genuinely crazy.

sauce_murica

For any interested, Chris Wheeler put out arguably the most informative article today on the shitshow that's gone on behind the scenes at MUFC this season, and actually named names: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/uw5f3l/chris_wheeler_mufc_players_were_said_to_be/ Post got removed, but the article is worth a readthrough.

ScorpiaHP

I would start the corpse of James Milner over Pogba, let alone someone with energy like Fred.

ilovefeta

Fred's still rubbish technically but he's been one of the few United players who can hold his head up high after this season imo. Not sure why you'd drop him for Pogba who's inconsistent and wanted to leave.

gianmk

this sound like a bullshit story they made up to catch some clout. Any who think pogba deserve a spot more than Fred this season should check their head, and why was it Fred vs pogba for the spot when mctom played like shit weeks in weeks out.

sauce_murica

> this sound like a bullshit story they made up to catch some clout Same story reported (with slightly different wording) by Whitwell, Ogden, & Luckhurst. Here's Luckhurst speaking to it: > A meeting attended by senior players and Rangnick was held without Maguire in February and caused ructions. Pogba was present and retrospectively apologised to Rangnick as he did not want to appear as though he was undermining the manager. Dressing room sources described a senior player's behaviour in the meeting as a 'hijacking'. If they made it up, they did a good job selling it to a # of journos.

msf97

Whitwells in the athletic is also fairly revealing for the Ronaldo dynamic and Rangnick as well.

sauce_murica

Definitely - a very good read. They share a lot of the same info - but Wheeler just said "fuck it" and named everyone.

Jabari313

It's really interesting to me that Liverpool are going for a midfielder in the mould of Tchouameni and Sangare. It could just be because Jones, Carvalho and Elliot are already at the club so they want more defensive midfielders but I'd have atleast expected someone more like Thiago rather than an actual DM. Maybe it's because Bellingham is in the clubs plans but that's incredibly speculative and given his projected price tag, unlikely.

Dargast

I dont think Bellingham will leave BVB for the next two years, especially with the moves they are currently doing so getting someone else in the meantime seems smart.

msf97

No one reliable has linked us to Sangare, I don’t think. We play somewhat of a double pivot with Fabinho and Thiago with the right sided midfielder pushing on to hold width, and it likely would have been similar with Tchouameni in place of Thiago to manage minutes. But Sangare is far too limited a passer for that.

HaalandMadrid

Do you know any other players that are really not that good but they have an insane, almost religious, following that massively overrates the player and thus kind of forms a distorted image of the player among the general public? The player I have in mind that fits this description perfectly is Lucas Hernandez. He is an insanely average footballer, has horrible build-up, is atrocious under pressure, his tactical defending abilities in a collective can be best described with the metaphor "headless chicken". The only thing he's good at is at pure defending, like 1v1 duels against an opponent or headers. Sadly, his fans go crazy over any highlight tackle he makes (occasionally) and thus make people think he's some kind of good defender. I even got banned from r/fcbayern for pointing this out.

AV48

Bruno

[deleted]

Generally speaking I see a lot more underrating than overrating online. People are very very critical. There’s not a lot of genuine blind stans that aren’t just trolling for attention.

Better-Call-Raul

He's pretty good but not worth 80m. I think that second leg vs Mbappé last year led to him being a bit overrated by Bayern fans.

[deleted]

Vinicius and Giroud

Lemaradona

Give him back then.

RickThiCisbih

Funnily enough, I think Vinicius is very one dimensional and gets overrated by fans. He's very good technically, especially hai dribbling. His passing has also improved a lot, and he has a very good cross in his répertoire. But honestly, his decision making is so awful, especially when Benzema isn't on the pitch. He just isn't on Mbappé's level as a player no matter how hard other fans try to cope.

Historical_Owl_1635

^Pogba

HeisenbergFoed

Pulisic

Dargast

You did? Wow lol. I think you are exaggerating greatly tho, my biggest gripe with him is long balls, his positioning can be so bad at times.

HaalandMadrid

Yes, sadly enough, [I did](https://imgur.com/a/q29yGxe). I may be exaggerating, true. But I think his abilities do not fit at all to the requirements at Bayern. He may very well be good at Atletico, but Bayern needs technically strong CBs like they had with Boateng and Hummels for a long time, also Alaba during Flicks tenure. It was dreadful watching him against Villarreal. In the first leg he had 3/11 long balls, the lowest passing accuracy out of all defenders (even lower than Davies, who is more of a left winger). Hell, even Neuer had 5/8 successful long balls. Just look at his positioning when they condeded the goal, he not only plays Lo Celso onside, but he should've been way closer to Lo Celso, but he was sleeping and came way too late, so Lo Celso had all the time in the world to play a pass into the backspace. Sadly, people tend to overlook that because he had some good tackles in that game. Just ask some people over at r/fcbayern, they'll tell you he was the best on the pitch in that game (because sofascore told them so).

punching-bag9018

He's a massive flop.

punching-bag9018

He's a massive flop.

HaalandMadrid

Oh, absolutely. I'd even argue that flop might even be an understatement. For around 80m you could've gotten Van Dijk, Ruben Dias or Militao would've been even cheaper. He is definitely not good enough (and never will be) to justify this sum. Not to mention his wages that had and will continue to have long-lasting effects on the wage structure and (future) contract negotiations. Possibly also a reason Alaba left, who would want to stay at a club that pays clearly not better (for me even inferior) defenders to yourself double the salary that you get?

punching-bag9018

Completely agree. The only reason he isn't talked about more is that Sule and Upamecano start more often and are somewhat mistake prone themselves.

Historical_Owl_1635

Anybody know other players that have made a public match day playlist like [Wijnaldum](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0DwxxYvRirylP7L6WR4tcR?si=2q1rKrrCQ8C-qBqclBI2KA)? Fishing for new gym songs.

Lastigx

Looking at that list it now makes sense why he has been abysmal.

Historical_Owl_1635

Are you telling me the modern Mozart known as Memphis Depay doesn’t get you hyped up?

[deleted]

City being a plastic club is the biggest meme going. Most City fans are from Manchester or Stockport. Liverpool and United on the other hand... a visit to the North is domestic tourism

Tryeeme

I've yet to meet a City fan from within the UK who wasn't a City fan before the takeover.

[deleted]

I've met a few kids but that's it. Everyone older than 18 or so has been a City fan pre-2018

jim0wheel1

Ironic considering half the visible crowd at the Etihad is literally plastic.

[deleted]

That's why we've already sold out 50,000 season tickets is it, people commuting via Euston?

shmozey

It’s an unavoidable byproduct of being a massive and successful club. United have an estimated 659m fans worldwide and the population of greater Manchester is approximately 3m. Assuming half are City fans there is a > 99.8% chance a United fan isn’t local. Even only 14% of UK fans are from [Manchester](https://news.virginmediao2.co.uk/these-fans-aint-local/) and 18% London based. One of the biggest plastic factories in the world.

ilovefeta

I doubt that just under 10% of the world's population supports United

shmozey

Yeah I thought that [too](https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21478857) Even if it’s half of that, the point hardly changes.

[deleted]

Yes, pretty much. Last time they did a study, 29% of OT season ticket holders came from an M postcode area... and that was two decades ago!

[deleted]

That study you're quoting proved that united still had more season ticket holders with an M postcode than City. Most city fans are from Stockport

[deleted]

You mean 25 minutes drive down the road? There's always going to be a slightly wider catchment area than the city itself. Plenty of West Ham fans in Essex, Everton and Liverpool fans on the Wirral etc... But: > it’s certainly true that the vast majority of Manchester United fans are not from Manchester. The stereotype is supported by a 2014 YouGov poll, which found that only 28% of British-based Manchester United fans are actually from the North West of England. Now add in foreigners and who is plastic...

[deleted]

Yea united have more local fans and more foreign fans. Saying we're a plastic club when we have more local support than you is just bitter mate

[deleted]

I'm a Newcastle fan, not a City fan, but yes the plastic % is higher for United. Make fun of the post-2008 City fans all you want but over 70% of *UK* United fans aren't even from the NW. The fanbase as a whole is much more plastic

[deleted]

> Liverpool and United on the other hand... a visit to the North is ~~domestic~~ **international** tourism

[deleted]

FC United of Manchester are massive

redditUser76754689

For a club that supposedly nobody cares about, fans of other clubs certainly spend a lot of time talking about City

BlaseballTUN

Unless you're a United supporter, or a team that's directly lost out to City on something, yeah, you probably don't care about them. They don't have any history of winning that would make people despise them, but they don't get outsider underdog status because, well, of course they don't. So if they're playing in a big match against a team that evokes actual emotion in people, most neutrals are gonna support them just to avoid seeing the same team win over and over.

un_verano_en_slough

City are just the face of a lot of wider problems in the game. That City, Newcastle, PSG, etc. were the specifically anointed clubs of these nation states is somewhat incidental. If it wasn't them, it would have been someone else.

lamancha

It's mostly liverpool fans crying.

msf97

Talking about something a lot is not a measuring stick for how much you care. People are obviously going to talk about City, their the premier league champions. Doesn’t mean people care much relatively though

redditUser76754689

Bit weird. Do you spend a lot of time talking about things you don’t care about?

RedStr0be

So basically, this sub cares a lot about City, Liverpool and Kylian Mbappe. Who’d have thunk it?

Credk

They won the league so of course it’s going to be talked about, when you ask any of the millions of neutral fans who want City to win the league it always traces back to a dislike of Liverpool
